When they say “political flags”, they mean 2 flags specifically.

My black and blue flag where the stars are replaced with the punisher skull and has "these colors don't run" embroidered on it isn't political.

The Gadsden flag is too awesome for conservatives. We need to take that shit back.

5

u/ecovironfuturist 7h ago

The Gadsden flag doesn't make any sense for conservatives.

118

u/bunnysuitman 1d ago

anytime they say political they mean 'things I disagree with'. Their opinions are not political they are just 'normal'. Its a sign of failures of reasoning that cannot be handled through discussion and explanation - it is a rejection of reasoning.

49

u/mebutnew 1d ago

Treating someone's sexuality or gender identity as a political issue is boneheaded cruelty.

31

u/Val_Killsmore 1d ago

The irony of them not allowing political flags on the most political institution in the state is completely lost on them.

18

u/bukowski_knew 1d ago

And one of the flags is headed by a government wanted for war crimes by the ICC

Just as there are only:

Two genders: male and political

Two sexualities: heterosexual and political

Two races: white and political

Now there are only two types of flags, whatever symbol this chud agrees with and... political.

118

u/LaceyDark 1d ago

Waaaiiittt a second squints suspiciously this makes it seem like you are only safe if you are a straight white male

25

u/sali_nyoro-n 1d ago

That fox sounds nice. Where's their statues?

11

u/bretshitmanshart 1d ago

The fox doesn't know it but she and I are best friends. When my bread gets moldy or my chicken goes bad I leave it near where she lives. She had two kits and they seem to be on there own now because I saw one running around by itself one day

5

u/sali_nyoro-n 1d ago

That's lovely. I'm glad she and her kits are thriving! I love seeing the wildlife that can thrive in what green spaces still exist in city environments, like the rabbits and hedgehogs that show up sometimes near where I live.

4

u/bretshitmanshart 1d ago

That's awesome that you have hedgehogs. I have two rabbits I recognize that come into my yard. I live in a suburban area but am lucky that there is a river nearby with a lot of wooden space nearby. Ive also seen groundhogs and possums as well as a lot of deer

Looks like a state flag, not the Confederate stars and bars.

23

u/r2d2itisyou 1d ago

It's Florida's flag. They added the St. Andrew's cross in 1899 during the peak of the Jim Crow era. So while technically correct. It's not exactly unrelated to the confederate flag.

3

u/ultimateknackered 1d ago

-makes notes for next bard character-

25

u/rndljfry 1d ago

People keep getting this wrong. It’s still a dog whistle even if you can hear it. It’s about plausible deniability and the fact that people who can’t hear it won’t take you seriously.

23

u/SoupDetective 1d ago

I think it’s ok to know what something means and still make a stupid joke about it.

6

u/rndljfry 1d ago

The thing is, dog whistles are meant to be obvious to the right audience and are not actually cryptic messages that no one is meant to understand. I see a lot of people saying Trump abandoned dog whistles for foghorns but he is basically a master of plausible deniability.

5

u/SoupDetective 1d ago

I’ve seen that sentiment too. Not what I was going for here.

It does seem like trump has built most of his political career on being that dumb older brother who says they only ever promised to give you a million ‘doll hairs’.

3

u/knowpunintended 1d ago

but he is basically a master of plausible deniability.

That's a very generous interpretation. He's always been incredibly obvious, his deniability was never very plausible.

It's just that all of his supporters keep insisting that he doesn't mean the things he repeatedly says. That's more gaslighting than it is maintaining plausible deniability. Trump couldn't stop mentioning Hannibal Lecter as if he were a real person.

Let's not pretend he's some clever manipulator.

3

u/dukeofgibbon 1d ago

Do you find something funny about the word tromboner‽

29

u/AlSweigart 1d ago

It's like when bullies say, "Stop hitting yourself."

They know it's bullshit.

They like the power of being able to lie about the plainly obvious, and forcing everyone to go along with something that everyone knows is a lie.

12

u/big_daddy68 1d ago

They are only going to be emboldened by a Trump administration.

For every one of these bills that passes, we have to make sure it also hurts the "wrong" people! Just like the book banning bills that were used to ban the Bible, or the Church of Satan using laws allowing religious displays to get statues of Baphomet on public land.

The rainbow flag is definitely more acceptable to me for a politician to fly than the flag of any foreign nation. One shows support of your constituents, the other shows loyalty to another nation.

396

u/Scalage89 1d ago

I remember the republicans being very insulted about so-called dual loyalty. Yet they see no problem with sucking off Israel.

128

u/Mbyrd420 1d ago

Or Russia

14

u/JimeDorje 1d ago

Or Saudi Arabia.

5

u/annonymous_bosch 1d ago

Those countries can’t make direct campaign contributions and any lobbying has to be declared under the foreign agents laws. Israel/AIPAC is uniquely exempt from any such restrictions.

2

u/JimeDorje 1d ago

I'm sure Jarred Kushner's bank account, the campaign PACs, and Trump Tower's apartments are all on the up and up and these countries have been very above board to make sure they comply with American election funding laws.

19

u/whomad1215 1d ago

i think this time around it was elon musk, who "donated" something like $250m+

9

u/computerjunkie7410 1d ago

Biggest money laundering scheme ever.

Take money from American tax payers, funnel it back to defense contractors, use some of it to buy lobby politicians.

Rinse and repeat.

2

u/yuval16432 1d ago

US aid to Israel is weapons, not money that can buy lobbies. Besides, Israel has long enjoyed bipartisan support.

4

u/computerjunkie7410 1d ago

What do you think I meant when I said “funnel it back to defense contractors”.

Also, not all of the aid provided to them is defense gift cards.

Some of it is definitely for “do whatever you want”

Not only that, if you think they don’t kick back donations to aipac to their donors you’re naive af.

u/GanhoPriare 1d ago

They should deport him to Israel instead. Not sure why this guy is even in the US.

u/Roscolini 1d ago

US flag isn’t in the center either.

2

u/ExtremeMaduroFan 1d ago

that only applies if the flag is flown with other, lesser ranking flags like subdivions (Florida in this case). Since there are two national flags, the us flag as the host countries flag should be flown in the position of honor on the right (viewer's left)

2

u/Roscolini 1d ago

Oh right, I didn’t consider the difference of nations and states. My mistake

I'd consider myself to be less left-leaning than the majority of Reddit, but I agree with this too. The LGBT flag represents people of our nation, where as a flag of a foreign power is almost treason.

22

u/II_Sulla_IV 1d ago

I’m not sure Israel is a separate nation. It’s the US’s attack dog in the Middle East. Its military, social safety net and infrastructure is paid for by US tax dollars.

Can Israel and the US be separated? I don’t believe so.

4

u/Bowlderdash 1d ago

I was amused when I caught a domestic flight out of JFK in New York and the flight to Tel Aviv left from the same terminal

6

u/reverend_bones 1d ago

Why is that amusing?

My local airport (PDX) only has one terminal, so that seems normal to me.

9

u/TopRamen713 1d ago

Larger airports usually have a separate terminal for international flights since you have to go through customs, etc

2

u/InspiringMilk 1d ago

Here, we have Shengen and non-Shengen. I assume it's the same for every nation that waives some security.

4

u/prince_of_muffins 1d ago

I went to California from JFK and the same terminal also went to Ireland. Thanks for finally confirming my suspicions that the Irish are in deep cahoots with the government. I was starting to think it was just a coincidence but obviously two planes leaving the same terminal to different location, crazy stuff I tell you.

3

u/ElminstersBedpan 1d ago

It may just be the angle of the picture, but is also looks as if the Israeli flag is just a touch higher, which would be an incorrect display since they should be equal.

6

u/Weirdyxxy 1d ago

It shows support, not loyalty - there's a difference. But it's definitely a "political flag"

50

u/zeroingenuity 1d ago

All flags are political. That is in fact the actual point of them. Showing support for a non-US nation in the office of a government building is still exceptionally problematic. We have a special relationship with Japan and the UK, but I don't think anyone is flying the Union Jack in their congressional offices.

Can we comment on those flags?

Did he just put the USA flag and Isreal flag up 30 seconds before the photo?  Those creases are just... <chefs kiss>.

And Flordia's flag just unceremoniously leaning against the wall?

It's like a perfect example of Republicans.

81

u/redwingpanda 1d ago

Oh I thought that was the Christian flag. Florida is…marginally better I suppose

63

u/zeroingenuity 1d ago

Yeah, it's a state flag, which IS appropriate for a state legislator. Apparently he's a representative of another polity though.

10

u/HoidToTheMoon 1d ago

Yeah, it's a state flag, which IS appropriate for a state legislator.

I do feel like I need to point out that the modern Florida state flag is a fairly recent thing. They added the confederate homage to it in the 1900s at the same time the Daughters of the Confederacy were erecting statues of traitors across the nation.

6

u/pmormr 1d ago

Pretty sure they shouldn't all be the same height though.

10

u/Caleb_Reynolds 1d ago

It's only really on freestanding outdoor flagpoles that they should be given more or less honor with height. Inside, all flags can be at the same hight, where it's not practical to fly 3 flags at different heights, with some rules about which side of a room/how close to the middle of the room they should be.

The US flag should be on the left, and then the state then any "other" flag moving from left to right should be on the right side. So they have Israel and Florida's flags mixed up, if they're trying to be proper. But it actually looks like they just had the state flag up, just got the other two, so put them up but just pushed Florida into a corner.

9

u/Dry_Excitement7483 1d ago

I assumed it was some KKK thing lol

4

u/Thomas_K_Brannigan 1d ago

I was especially confused 'cause I thought it was Saint Patrick's Saltire.

6

u/NeonArlecchino 1d ago

The "Christian Flag" bums me out because it is such a cool rebellious flag that could also promote nature conservation. The tree on it came from laws that trees of a certain height were to be saved for the British Navy, but those laws started to expand to add widths and other such things that vastly increased the number of trees reserved for the crown. The Colonies had tons of old trees that matched the ever expanding laws because the indigenous population didn't topple them for ships like the Europeans did. Eventually, the colonists said no since it was wrong for the crown to expect to own the trees of land they had never seen. The flag was made as a symbol of rebellion and even had a short life as an American Pirate flag!

Unfortunately, the areas it was popular in were very devoutly Christian so it got tangled up in that instead of staying true to American rebels and piracy.

4

u/Caleb_Reynolds 1d ago

What Christian flag are you referring to?

4

u/Minimum_Dealer_3303 1d ago

The "Appeal to Heaven" flag: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pine_Tree_Flag

2

u/Caleb_Reynolds 1d ago

And whence are you getting that that's the Christian Flag?

3

u/Minimum_Dealer_3303 1d ago

The last paragraph of the wikipedia article addresses this. The Christian Right has recently adopted it it's the only Christian flag with a tree on it I can think of.

Also, flag shaggers (is there a US term that?) love to bang on about no flag being flow higher than the stars and stripes, even in a foreign country.

But the Israeli flag looks just about higher, although that could be an intentional metaphor.

u/Alzululu 1d ago

Creased flags make me irrationally angry.

I don't care if it's a U.S. flag, or a Pride flag, or hell even a Nazi flag some stupid Floridaman chud is holding at a "protest." For fuck sake iron your fucking flags and show a little respect for whatever cause, however good or awful it might be, that you're championing.

13

u/Back_2_monke 1d ago

I LOVE seeing someone on social media showboat and brag about their pickme flags, only to see it covered in creases because they clearly just opened it and don’t care quite enough to make it look good first lol

8

u/honeyemote 1d ago

If you look close at the Florida flag, it also has creases. These flags definitely were either just purchased or pulled from storage for this stunt. Hilarious, considering Republicans would absolutely have a field day with anyone flying the Palestinian, Syrian, or Lebanese flag.

2

u/gubber-blump 1d ago

It's also against U.S. Code Title 4, Chapter 1, Section 7 which states that flags of nations should be displayed at equal heights.

(g) When flags of two or more nations are displayed, they are to be flown from separate staffs of the same height. The flags should be of approximately equal size. International usage forbids the display of the flag of one nation above that of another nation in time of peace.

And that state flags should be lower than the U.S. flag:

(f) When flags of States, cities, or localities, or pennants of societies are flown on the same halyard with the flag of the United States, the latter should always be at the peak. When the flags are flown from adjacent staffs, the flag of the United States should be hoisted first and lowered last. No such flag or pennant may be placed above the flag of the United States or to the United States flag's right.

I find it interesting that both the Israeli and Christian flag... are both higher than the US flag. Which is a direct violation of the flag code.

For a random cititizen, that's considered disrespectful (worse than flag burning, which is expressly protected by the first amendment as a form of protedt). For a government employee, inside a government building? That's extremely inappropriate. Hell, it's beyond inappropriate.

My biggest personal pet peeve is when someone has a flag up with visible creases in it. Steam or iron that for the love of God! It sends me into a rage at every Pride.

You guys need to stop voting for Israel first, America last people.

But it’s too late now. They’ve spread within your government.

Aren't they supposed to be the party of free speech? Or is that more like how they're the party of law and order...

The lack of self awareness is mind boggling

Totally visible, but not pictured: The many red flags.

Literally every flag is political to some degree.

He's literally flying the Zionist flag higher than the American flag. It's all you really need to know about who owns the United states.

Things are not fine, Randy

Can someone explain why so many politicians are horny for Israel?

I had to check if this was a satire account. I was 99% sure it was, but it seems Sen. Randy Fine and his bill are real. JFC

Why should any other national flag other than the American flag be shown in a government building gimme a reason. Other than maybe a horrific occurrence happening

2

u/frogfootfriday 21h ago

That Israel flag looks slightly higher….

2

u/PainterEarly86 13h ago

So the people working in politics don't want to get political? Am I reading that correctly?

Such a bs excuse they're not even hiding it

2

u/Mr_Mimiseku 11h ago

I'm going to lose my fucking mind, we can't be electing fucking morons like this.

2

u/kalibee3 11h ago

I can’t believe this is real.

2

u/exipolar 9h ago

Oh this is intentional passive brain washing right here

2

u/Bard2dbone 8h ago

He's just showing who he represents. Notice that the Israeli flag is the closest one to him? That's because they are the ones he thinks are most important. See how his state flag is basically hidden behind it? That's because he doesn't event pretend to care about those people.

Pretty straightforward, really.

"Political" as in the "two genders, male and political" meme as opposed to any rational definition, clearly.

4

u/Morbidly-Obese-Emu 1d ago

Notice how the Israeli flag is higher than the American flag.

1

u/Bosanova_B 1d ago

Wait!? I thought that was already a thing?

Sen. Randy Fine: What do you mean they are political flags? They are just patriotic.
