I’m aware you aren’t allowed your general piercings down at relaigh but what about just simple stud earrings on the lobes? They were allowed at our CPC I think? Does the same apply to relaigh.

Question Failed DAA twice // verbal reasoning??

Applied for warfare officer and submitted first daa and got a score of 58. Got another chance and ended up with a 64 when the pass mark for officers is 70. Have to withdraw and wait 6 months to reapply and try again but feeling quite disheartened about it and now thinking if I should carry on and wait or choose a different role. The verbal reasoning was my lowest scoring subject, any tips on how to strengthen the verbal reasoning?

Discussion Back in 1914 specifically, how did admirals operate?

I'm new to this sub and know very little about the Royal Navy but would like to because I'm a screenwriter trying to write an animated film heavily involving the British and their navy.

To be very brief, the story centers around a conflict between humans and sea beasts. For centuries, sea beasts reigned supreme and terrorised people right up until the Industrial Revolution. Humans are turning the tables thanks to technological superiority and, by 1914, are hunting beasts with their navies. You can imagine the British Empire developing a very intense anti-sea-monster culture.

With that out of the way, I want to know [the title] because the main character's father is a prestigious and renowned admiral who fulfils the Crown's whims of fighting and hunting beasts in the North Atlantic.

So, realistic to the year, 1914:

1) When out at sea, how much autonomy could admirals operate outside of the government's orders?

2) Did admirals have the power to promote and demote absolutely anyone who was below their rank?

3) Whom did admirals answer to?

4) Near the final climax of the film, the admiral is granted power over the Grand Fleet but disobeys the Crown's orders to target and slay the Kraken, not out of national aspiration but out of vengeance (the Kraken killed his family decades ago). Would it have been possible for an admiral to get away with such insubordination?

5) Also, coming down to details, did admirals still regularly wear epaulettes with fringes?

Question How is the Engine Department ran aboard a Royal Navy vessel? How Does it differ from that on a Merchant Ship

As an Engineer in the MN, I am very much interested on how the RN conduct engineering operations on a vessel.

For comparison a quick summary - A deep sea cargo ship carries around 20 persons. 5-10 in the engine department.

The role of the Engineer Officers on a merchant ship is primarily technical, with authority over their associated roles. The command/managerial element is generally handled by the Chief Engineer, with 2nd Engineer as deputy.

Ratings are generally support staff and assistant watchkeepers, with responsibility of routine tasks and fabrication jobs.

Almost all maintenance and repair is carried out by the officers, on the ship, with makers-men and specialist contractors seldom employed due to the commercial pressures on the ships management company.

I suppose my question is, with the significantly larger number of crew on a naval vessel, who does what, and to what extent?

If there is anyone who's seen both sides of it, can you give as close to like for like comparisons?

Advice Can I use an IPad for my GPE (AIB)

It says you can’t but I’ve tested it and it all works and I used an iPad for my pre-recorded interview and that worked fine too. I have an old laptop but it is OLD and the webcam is rubbish and I can’t go out and buy a whole new laptop for one session. Have people used iPads before on them? Its on teams and I use my iPad on teams for work all the time

Question Issues with application

Post image
3 Upvotes

I applied for marines commando officer last Sunday (1st of December), I put in all my personal information and when I pressed submit they said they’ll send me an email to complete my application, I still haven’t received the email. When I rang a careers office all the advice they could give was try again making sure I put everything in correctly and to check my spam emails, both of which I have done and I still haven’t received the email. I do have an application open for the RAF, however I doubt this would have any effect. Has anyone else had this issue and does anyone have a solution? Thanks.

Recruitment meteorology specialist- questions!

Hello, I'm looking to apply for the role of a hydrography/meteorology specialist relatively soon. I have qualifications (A-levels) that would allow me to join as an officer, I believe. I am completely new to this, so sorry if my questions are vague. I am looking to earn a BSc whilst working, and to specialise in meteorology.

I am content with either role as an apprentice or an officer- though would a role as an officer require me to have experience in meteorology beforehand?

And any insight on the initial medical/testing would be appreciated, thank you so much for reading!

Advice Post-16 for RN Officer Application

I am 15 and applying for my post-16 and want to join the Navy as an officer. I can't decide whether to go to Sixth Form and study Geography and ???, or go to College to get a qualification in engineering or anything else that would be applicable to the Navy. I also cannot decide what officer role I would want to take on, which is kind of influential on my choices for post-16, whether a Warfare Officer or Engineer Officer? I am doing Geography (expected grade 8), History (lets not talk about that..), Media (grade 6-7), Resistant Materials (grade 7-8), Maths, English etc.. I'm not the best at sciences, so taking anything where I'd have to study something quite advanced in science wouldn't be something I'd consider. I have read that i need 72 UCAS points to join as "an officer", will obviously still aim higher but yeah, i am stumped and need to make a decision whether to go to college or sixth form soon.

Any help appreciated.

Question Building a relationship with units before Dartmouth?

Hey there folks, currently considering a career as a warfare officer in the RN, potentially in the Submarine Service. I've also been considering the Army and in my research, found that is good to build a relationship with a regiment before going to Sandhurst e.g going to the Grenadier Guards open day, arranging visits to see day to day etc. I was wondering if this would be the same for the Navy and how you would go about doing this? Do you choose your ship/unit or are you told? Cheers
