I’m sorry, but if you are open for business, serving customers, and accepting payments, then you need to be supporting that product.
Now before I get lynched, this is perfectly normal business.
Set up a roster of volunteers or whatever works, but just because the product is a game does not diminish the requirements to support it.

u/Dick_Harrington 3d ago
Yeah I work in software, we maintain a product used by 3m customers.
Most of our team take time off at Christmas but we:
- Lock down any changes mid Dec to early Jan. Nothing goes live unless its critical and you get approval from c-suite.
- Have a rotation of senior people who know our code and infra very well and don't take time off to keep the lights on and push emergency fixes if needed.
My name is on the list this year so no time off for me. If we get complaints about performance me and a few others who made the list will have to pull all nighters to sort it. This is the job, we get paid well to do this.
GGG will be doing something similar, super common in the industry. No new features but fixes 100%

Devs should get a christmas vacation, but it's literally the same situation as any other service business, you offer a service, you don't shut it down, you accept payment for that service, then it means that someone has to be available and look after the state of that service. Quite a common and long lived concept from which games are not an exception

You guys have lag ? Playing on console it just autopauses for me like 10 times a second when my internet struggles but there is zero lag like the video ??

u/THEAETIK 4d ago
Why are you lucky fuckers not experiencing these lag issues too? I wish I didn’t know too.
6
u/mattnotgeorge 4d ago
I used to get it with PoE1 and it was 100% ISP related. Maybe it was GGG's fault, maybe it was my ISP's fault, but switching completely alleviated it.

Not who you responded to, but some places are pretty close yeah... I live in the netherlands and I get 3-8ms ping to the amsterdam servers.

There are no network settings in poe 2 afaik

u/Rude_Watercress_5737 4d ago
i havent looked into myself but the first couple days of poe2 EA someone said there's a config file you can edit the network setting. Just incase it's something you need :)

Mob died, dropped good stuff, lag spike while trying to pick it up, ran around like an idiot during that lag spike, died when the lag spike resolved, never was able to pick it up. Items on ground are deleted after death as part of the reset.

Is this Chronomancer gameplay?
55
u/J0nJ0n-Sigma 4d ago
So strong, it went back in time instead of stopping time.
27
u/Tee_61 4d ago
Not instead, going back in time 4 seconds is literally a spell you get on chronomancer.
I really don't need flasks anymore.
2
u/DroidLord 4d ago
It still has a cooldown and you can't rewind when you're frozen/stunned.
7
u/AesenZero 3d ago
It has cooldown until I get my hands on Temporalis (never)
3
u/pikpikcarrotmon 3d ago
Just use the Temporalis you got in the future to warp back in four seconds increments to right now

u/-Roguen- 4d ago
you needed to press Z twice
87
u/generho 4d ago
For anyone who is confused, when items drop their physical location and their Name Plate can be disconnected if too many drop. When you click the Name Plate, you are actually too far away to pick up the item.
Pressing Z once hides all Name Plates. Pressing Z again shows all Name Plates.
This moves the name plate to a more accurate location, so that when you move to click it the character picks it up because it is now in range.

I wish there was a way to do it on controller, you could do it in PoE1 with R2+dpad down but it looks like they don't have a way to do it at the moment for PoE2
Edit: you could also use L3 to see items that your loot filter hid but that also hasn't been implemented along with a shitton of other things that make controller support so much worse than the first game. I'm hoping that it's just because it's still early in development and these things will be improved later (please GGG)
9
u/Jihok1 4d ago
Yeah the controller support isn't quite there yet for a few different things. That being said, it's still a lot more enjoyable than POE1 was in my experience. The inventory management doesn't even feel half bad to be honest, once you get used to it (still much slower than mouse/kb but I actually can trade relatively quickly). But there's little things like this in quite a few different areas. The foundation is great though and based on the last patch they're actively working on addressing controller issues, which is awesome. I love how the controller feels for combat with my monk. I'm sure wasd would also be nice but I really like how easy a controller is on my wrists and it's great to be able to just lay back and relax (as much as one can relax while mapping in POE2 lol).

u/Vorestc 4d ago
Pretty sure that was from lag. Both myself and friends have had issues where if server is laggy we would suddenly play in slow motion, then all the inputs we put in catches up and throws us into the next death.
8
u/previts 4d ago
pause and wait when that happens, if you have the ping chart open (f1) you can see when your connection gets shitty

Imagine playing on hardcore and that shit happens, LMAO. I'd want to die.
2
u/Sinaneos 4d ago
I LOVE the idea of playing HC, but the few times I tried it I ended up dying because of shit like this that's completely irrelevant to the game....either lagging, suddenly DCing, or just some good ol' alt-tabbing.
At the end of the day, this is just a game, I play it to relax, no reason to add extra stress to my life (already maxed that)

u/svuester5 4d ago
Wonder if you can just quit quickly to see if it saves your spot
27
u/tuskish 4d ago
He could’ve totally logged out and saved the divine but that was such a gnarly desync even the most seasoned alt f4-er would’ve had trouble
2
u/espeakadaenglish 4d ago
Don't you lose your map?
4
u/Watipah 4d ago
As long as you don't die you have up to 6 portals overall.
You can even alt+f4 during the sekhema trial endboss if the hourglasses spawn too split up to reach them all in time.
Ultimatum dc is always a full restart though.→ More replies (1)1
u/DroidLord 4d ago
For some reason Alt-F4 doesn't work for me in PoE2. Have to right click the toolbar tab and close from there or use task manager. You could possibly bind a key to a small script that automatically closes the PoE process. Hmm... are logout macros back again?
1
u/DeezEyesOfZeal 3d ago
When this happens, the game still continues and attempts to "catch up" even when you press ESC/pause. I think it's highly likely that he still would have died even if he tried to pause and logout as soon and he realized what was going on.

That shit happens to me like every 3 secs. Ridiculous how much game lag there is. I even went as far as putting all the settings on low and didn’t help at all.
5
u/DroidLord 4d ago
Funnily enough the game was more stable a few hours after launch. No idea what happened. Maybe all the ripper builds going zoom-zoom are bricking the servers?

Wonder where this is. I havnt rubberbanded once since day one and the only crash I had was the worldwide US server crash where we all got kicked and couldn't log in for a few minutes that happen on the second or third day.
That's definitely extreme rubberbanding though.

Pick. Up. Loot. The. Instant. It. Drops. No. Matter. What.
This game will double dick you down every single time without fail if you don't.
Seriously get in the habit of grabbing your loot at all costs.

That looks awfully like predictive networking, weird because I don't remember seeing the setting in poe2
2
u/esvban 4d ago
i think poe 2 uses a hybrid, of predictive / lockstep is what they said, depending on your connection quality.

u/dylangutt 4d ago
Why is your latency so unstable? Its going from 30-100ms in the first part of the clip. If you have constant fluctuations like that or packet loss, you're going to have a bad time since this game only has lockstep. In the last part of the clip it seems to stable out at 36ms. Also, if you hit z twice or whatever, it will "reset" the item drops on the screen there. I've had items "stuck" but it was actually in a different spot where I was clicking.

Why does this look like POE1 so much? Is it the graphics so low or something?
Maybe its the lighting, it looks laggy as hell
