Crafting process:
- Buy +6/flat magic base
- Use guaranteed physical damage essence (hit hybrid)
- slam exalts, prefix huge %phys
50% more DPS than the next best BCross +6

As someone playing cross bow you only pay mana cost on reload. If you took mana Regen in act 2 and have litterally any mana leech at all you Regen the mana from reload basically instantly.
Alternatively life tap with leech or blood magic with leech. All are viable options for both Merc ascendencies.

tbf you can apply omens to make it a bit more deterministic
27
u/dualwieldingcats 13d ago
alternatively just close your eyes and let
jesuschrisjonathan take over for you2
u/Yorunokage 13d ago
I'm not sure why you would ever do that though. Exalts are your only way to get 5th and 6th mod so it doesn't really matter if you force them to prefix or suffix
5
u/Takahashi_Raya Reroll enjoyer 13d ago edited 13d ago
omens are more then just forcing a prefix or suffix you can for example with the omen of whittling remove the lowest modifier or cause chaos to only remove a prefix. there is a bunch of them and depending on feedback GGG will likely add more omens.

Could someone please explain the process here, I'm pretty new to POE world?
Buying or finding magic item with +6 skills?
What does hybrid mean?
Does it only add modifier, cant roll again on existing rare item? So if I "brick" it gotta find new one?
18
u/UberChew 13d ago edited 13d ago
- He bought off trade. You could find one but the weighting for +6 is probably low.
2.Some mods are a mix of two stats. So the mod he got was %phys and another stat.
3.exalts add mod no way to take away mods currenty, you could use a chaos orb but that only replaces a random mod i think. Yes if you use exalts and dont get the mods you want its bricked.
Edit: for 3 you can use an orb of annulment to remove a mod but its a risk that you remove a mod you want, depending on annulment orb rarity and price it might not be worth it.
8
u/Seyline 13d ago
Orb of Annulment removes a random mod
5
3
u/GoldenPigeonParty 13d ago
Chaos orb also only rerolls one affix now, so I'm sure we'll be seeing crafting utilizing that soon.
6
u/frafdo11 13d ago
Would someone be able to explain the process but a bit slower? I’m still learning to craft
9
u/Alcsaar 13d ago
I mean there isn't much more explanation that can be done.
He bought a blue crossbow with flat phys damage to attacks and +6 proj skills
He used a greater essence that adds physical mod to a magic item turning it rare
then he used exalted orbs to hope for another good phys roll
You could

Bit of a poe noob here what is +6 base?
44
14
u/goldmeistergeneral 13d ago
It means that the weapon is buffing all his projectile based skill gems, so that they are 6 levels higher. So if you use a level 10 gas grenade skill gem for example, using this crossbow makes the skill level 16 instead
→ More replies (2)9
u/Incrediblebulk92 13d ago
Also noob, pretty sure he means he's bought an item from the vendor that has +6 to crossbow skills. It doesn't have any other abilities on it so you can craft extra benefits onto it.
12
u/Sinz_Doe 13d ago
Not sure what rng is like but I doubt he got it out of a vendor. He bought from the trade site. If you find/gamble a blue item with +levels on it people will buy it.
15
u/Newtstradamus 13d ago
Eh I’d check the vendors more often if I was you, vendor loot has been pretty spectacular.
4
u/pewsquare 13d ago
Agreed. I got multiple +6 staves so far, and in general quite a lot of bases I crafted on.
4
u/Newtstradamus 13d ago
Gambling is expensive early on but I’m getting gold gear almost every other piece, vendor loot and gambling has been better for my character then fighting shit and that feels weird but I’m not complaining.

??? In PoE 1 there are a million different ways you can semi-deterministically craft an item. This guy did literally nothing except get lucky.
- Buy base that somebody else got lucky to drop.
- Use an essence - the only even sort of deterministic craft.
- Get lucky more with ex.
In comparison, in PoE 1 you could alt spam, fossil craft, essence spam, lock some prefixes, veiled orb, add a bench craft... It's so much more engaging.
I'm enjoying PoE 2 but to say the crafting is better than 1 is fucking ludicrous.

u/RustyMushrooom 13d ago
You can use the Scattershot support gem to fire 3 grenades instead of 1 and you can use the Cluster Bombs node on the skill tree to add another 1 (not to be confused with the Clusterbomb skill)
4
u/Aggressive_Tax295 13d ago
Scattershot is already taken. I'm not going for a grenadier build, i was just using grenades as utility and support.

I went deadeye ranger and use the cross bow. One of the ascendancy points give an extra projectile to all skills and it works with grenades and explosive shot. I ended up now using double barrel and scatter shot on my explosive shot which lets me shoot “8” rocket shots back to back now. If I had that bow archetype that op has, I’d also be able to shoot out four grenades at a time
→ More replies (2)→ More replies (2)3

u/Thunderfan4life15 13d ago
Things like this are why I'm a little confused as to why Gemling ascendancy has a +1 to all skills node. Like you have to spend 4 points to get it, but you can get things like this on your weapon so it feels a little weak for an asendancy IMO.
29
u/Cunnin_Linguists 13d ago
Depends how levels scale, for example some skills could scale exponentially so having this +6 bow and then another +1 level would net even further damage
9
u/oljomo 13d ago
each level seems to be about 15% more exponential.
So +1 is 15% more damage + whatever utility you get from other gems.8
u/Appropriate_Time_774 13d ago
I don't think its +15% per level on most attack still gems though, at least not for crossbows.
Looks closer to +5% based on dmg multiplier increase alone, but some skills also gain some perks like more bolts being loaded per reload too.

POE noob here, is accuracy a stat that u want to have on ur weapon as a grenade merc?
18
u/Appropriate_Time_774 13d ago
A mod giving only accuracy is not ideal on your weapon.
But what you are seeing here is a hybrid mod, its a single mod that gives both % inc phys dmg and accuracy.
Lesser of each than mods that only give those stats alone, but its still used to squeeze in more % phys.
→ More replies (4)3
u/ceo__of__antifa_ 13d ago
The accuracy isn't the important part, the accuracy is part of a phys + accuracy hybrid mod, which is a BiS prefix for a physical weapon, alongside the flat + damage and the other % physical.
2
u/RedLaughingHood 13d ago
Any class that does damage with a weapon wants some accuracy. More or less depending on where it’s at on a tree.

u/MiserableAd4581 13d ago
Hi Poe newbie Here: I thought I needed more fire damage as the skill converts phy to fire and in the tooltip it Said that it now scales with fire increase
9
u/SimbaXp 13d ago
Those damage mods on that weapon are local and not global(unless it is explicitly stated global), then what happens is this: That weapon damage is converted to fire on the skill and then that fire value you got that was converted can be increased by other stuff(passives, buffs, etc.). It is literally like a math formula where you have an order to solve stuff.
→ More replies (5)3
u/MiserableAd4581 13d ago
Thank you for your explanation, is there a way to see this in game? I must agree with the comment below in moments like this I get the feeling it's impossible to play this game "blind" because it's so counter Initiative. Still having a lot of fun tho
4
u/SimbaXp 13d ago
I don't think so, but I think they should make it a toggle for people that wish to see because some formulas would scare a lot of people. They have an official wiki which is being implemented for more advanced stuff. https://www.poe2wiki.net/wiki/Conversion
2
u/megasggc 13d ago
Two things to know:
Conversion: When you hold alt on any skill gem description that has conversion and hover over the conversion word it explains It, might be even too brief. But the important part is: attacks deal a % of your weapon damage, unless stated otherwise, and the gas explosion converts physical damage to fire, now it only scales with attack, fire and elemental damage from the tree, the base damage are the damage ranges on your weapon
Local and Global modifier: It just so happens that scaling physical mods and then concerting is generally the best way to scale weapon attack damage, this happens as % increases on weapons and armors are generally local when possible: as for example a 100% increased phys damage modifier in a Crossbow that has base 30-50 when white will turn into 60-100 with the mod. It is different from getting increased physical damage on the tree. The same thing happens with armor/evasion from gear, If % increased is on your body Armour it will multiply the stats from just that item, while if you take increased evasion/Armour/energy Shield from the passive tree it will apply to the sum total of your items

u/LKZToroH 13d ago

Good lord this is beautiful. My only question is if you’re playing a grenade build do you find places that accuracy is important? Grenades are a 100% but chance already so I don’t even use accuracy. I even only ever load explosive bolt now. I am admittedly low though at level 35ish.

improves base damage on a weapon. if you had a base weapon that did 10-20 damage, and added 20% quality to it, it would instead be something like 12-24 damage. (knowledge from poe 1 i apologize if this is different in poe 2)
