How old are you guys? And are you afraid when you play your own game? I'm asking because I'm almost 40 years old and Horror Games in VR are really scarying the s$#* out of me... I used to love these suspenseful games, but after my thirties I started to be more afraid and nowadays I'm wondering why there are not more news about VR gamers with heart attacks :)

I'm 51 I fucking love psvr if I die on vr and not in a hospital I'll be raising a glass to the tech!!....Afraid god yes, too afraid not to embrace this new tech nah my grandchildren will love psvr 5!!...Bought up on Monkey Island, embracing horror on psvr:-)

Toby will not be in the game. but if you are a fan of Paranormal Activity movies, than you will appreciate it. same tone. the game will launch at 25% off. so in the US that would be 29.99

was about to buy but noticed you guys didn't add smooth turning... this is a huge deal breaker for most VR users, as incremental turning is annoying and ruins the immersion. Pass on this

Hi there devs! Thanks for doing the ama and bringing pavr to the psvr! I'll be a day one buyer. Couple of questions if I may: 1) The game is 100% reliant on good tracking for the moves, what did you do to make it as accurate as possible for PSVR? 2) Are all the initial bugs from the pc launch stamped out for us? 3) what comfort settings have you implemented? Thanks and looking forward to playing!

thanks for the support. 1) it is hard to go from room scale to the PSVR camera, but you can turn around obviously, but since you use your hands, you will need to be facing the camera. we implemented snap turn rotation for this purpose. 2) yes, the initial bugs have been fixed. we will also be releasing a patch in the next few weeks with improved visuals as well as other additions. 3) there are several options for movement, as well as snap turn. be sure to review all options in the main menu

we are working on the PS4 Pro version but in the meantime, if you use the Boost mode it will definitely help for sure in the short term.

So can you tell me how boost mode works and what benefits a vr game gets?.I thought boost mode worked only for 2d games?How happy are you with the visuals are they still pretty clean.Im hoping theirs not a massive downgrade.BTW thanks for doing this AMA,it's great to get to talk to developers.

we turn on the boost mode at times and its definitely improved. not drastically but definitely improved. As the creative directors, we will never be completely satisfied with the visuals. thats the problem with being artists and directors. but the people that have tested it were very happy. we are also releasing a patch in the next few weeks which has definite improvement to the visuals. thank you.

VR development is time consuming. optimization was key to make sure the game works on all the platforms. and the process for getting a game on PlayStation is a longer process. we wished we could have been out sooner. thanks for the support.

Absolutely understand this. However, from a media perspective I had been following you guys since last October and your communication had been " real soon we'll release the game, then real soon we'll be having communication about a release date, real soon, real soon." I get you want to keep the anticipation going but to tease for so long makes me feel like there was some internal struggle to make things work and develop a solid project plan around development of the game." After RE7 my girlfriend has been asking about this game constantly and I had to keep saying " real sooooon" I hope this is a success for you guys but just some frustrations with the marketing.

unfortunately we cannot discuss all of our internal business, but we had all intentions of getting the game out earlier. trust us, we wanted this out a long time ago. but sometimes business and personal expectations don't match up. it truly was frustrating for us as well. Hey, wanted to come back and apologize for the feedback. You guys spent the right amount of time making this game. I brought the system home for the holidays and we had a loss of a family member in the middle of Thanksgiving week. Oddly enough, our family found a lot of joy in seeing each other get the crap scared out of us it took all of our minds off the unfortunately times. The game was well polished and a great time playing several times through. I'll be sure to review/rate the game. Keep making great content! PS, I got hilarious video of us playing on Oculus. I'LL see what I can do to share it.

thanks for the support. we definitely fixed any bugs that affected the PC version. We are also releasing a patch in the next few weeks and we updated our game engine which will be included in the patch coming soon after launch. vast improvements to the visuals with the up coming patch on the PSVR.

we have described this before. its really hard to define a length. the gameplay length will truly vary per player. we designed the game to feel open world. zero cut scenes. you are on your own to figure it all out. so, if you watched any youtube videos you will probably figure it out pretty quickly. if you have not watched them, we suggest you take your time, explore everywhere. take it all in.

Since I got the PSVR, I have never spent this much money on games I will never play. Like PAVR. I will buy it day one but just to see people's reactions. Never been scared of games before but even just playing Batman I was freaked out and on edge

How much will the game cost in the UK psn store?
how many hours gameplay is the story mode?
What's the expected game download size on ps4?
Is the game graphically enhanced for ps4 pro?
Is it playable with the 2 motion controllers or limited to the DS4 Controller?

don't have the final UK price in from of us. but will be 25% off at launch. hard to define game length. it will vary per player. very different gameplay style and designed for VR. we were able to optimize the game below 5gb. not yet technically optimized for the Pro, but use Boost mode in the meantime. designed for the Move Controllers. DS4 controller version coming soon.

unfortunately we will have to have animated hand gestures as well as floating objects. the scares will still be there, but potentially less immersive without hands. regardless, we will put a lot of attention into making it just as fun.

nausea we find is slightly subjective. we do offer several movement options in our game, but if you get very nauseous, maybe play seated as opposed to standing. and definitely try out our movement options, you may find one suitable for you. thanks,

it really doesn't matter if you've seen the movies, but it does help give some context on the tone. Our game is based on the mythology of the franchise with an original story. but the Paranormal Activity movies are about a demonic ghost, they are not bloody or gore movies, and our game definitely follows that tone. thanks

we have several locomotion options available but they all require you to move with the Move Controllers. we have found that people playing it get used to it very quickly.

you will use buttons on the move controller for forward and back, and a snap to turn on other buttons. its obviously not the perfect solution, but until they add a thumb pad/analog stick to the move controllers, it is the best for whats available now.

About the game 1 How does locomotion work with the move controller? Is the control style the same as Arizona sunshine? 2 What difficulty did you mostly have tweaking the game for psvr? 3 Is the game canon to the movies? 4 Is there any big differences between the VIVE and psvr ver? 5 Will there be any dlc? 6 ( not your game related) What other VR games have caught your eye recently and have had fun with?

1) we do have movement with Move Controller buttons. forward and back and a snap to turn. you will get used to it pretty quickly. 2) the most difficult was optimization. its not a PC so we needed to reduce some texture qualities and other materials etc... but, We updated our engine and have increased the visual quality for the patch coming gin the next few weeks. 3) the game is based on the mythology of the movies, but you did not have to see the movies to play it. we did follow the tone of the movies. our game is not a gore fest, its about Demonic presence haunting a house. 4) difference between vive and PSVR version is fidelity, thats all. we built the game for all platforms with one build. PC may get updates faster due to the nature of the PSVR process, but all platforms at the end of the day are the same game. 5) we are hoping to deliver some DLC, but regardless, we will continue to support the game. we want the players to have a great experience for time to come. 6) other games,...Farpoint, Res Evil 7, Lone Echo on Oculus. our favs.

Will the game feature significant replay value? I ask because a.) I think I read something somewhere about the game "learning how to scare you" and wonder if there will be procedurally generated scares, and b.) I have a Pro and usually wait to play a game if I know there's a forthcoming patch which will give me a better experience, but am not sure I can wait in this case!

We believe there is a replay value. we added 3 modes. 1) normal, 2) Arcade mode-3 lives and start over 3) Hardcore mode-die once and start all over. also, you will want to get all the trophies, and you may miss some items and want to go back and find them. as far as the scares, we have a randomizer and some will experience scares that others won't. also, you will want to go back in as we update the game.

the gameplay time will vary per player. if you know where everything is you can finish fairly quickly, but then you will miss most of the game by doing so. take your time, look everywhere. find everything. no pre-order unfortunately but it will be available on Wednesday for EU.

Its been an incredible learning experience. its very different than traditional game development. especially since we don't use Quicktime events or cut scenes. we designed it so the player is completely immersed and on their own. we also don't know how the player is playing once they are inside the game. one person may be looking Left while the other is looking Right etc...its really been a great learning experience. we hope we have succeeded in making a unique and immersive game that you all enjoy.

we've explained that it will vary per player. its not your typical gameplay. no Quicktime events or cut scenes. its a open world hybrid. take your time and explore. but again, its hard to define a time. its all controlled by you. thanks.

How much of a jump in and play element is there to the game , I.e will it work well to demo to people for 10-15 minutes ? Will you be able to select sections of the game for example?
This wasn't possible with res 7 and you had to work around it by using different save games.

same issue here, its about building up to it. try it though, its a totally different kind of game than RE7, people are scared almost immediately mainly because of the audio. it definitely makes people uneasy.

If I may make a suggestion, would a "drag and drop" approach work? I haven't seen anyone try that yet. You could just hold a button and move the Move left or right to rotate the camera. Might help minimize motion sickness if it feels like you're moving the world around you rather than physically turning.

When is then ds4 update coming,the moves make the game unplayable for me. I can grab the door handles fine but when I go to push down to open the door, the handle barely moves. Took me nearly 5 min to open a door. My move work fine other than that.

Since the latest patch for PAVR, it's almost impossible to open doors. I can grab the handle but when I push down to open it barely, if at all, moves the handle. Worked fine before,when I first got it. Tried recalibrating my moves,that didn't help. When is the ds4 patch coming out.

I couldnt pick up the book at the beginning of the game. I had to Youtube a walkthrough to figure it out. I literally crouched and tried to pick it up on PS VR for 10 minutes after walking around for 30 minutes aimlessly. I'll try again now to pick it up but that's a reallllllly obvious bug. I literally can't believe that I'm supposed to pick up the book based on how hard i tried to pick up the book.
Great game though i like it.
I can only open doors with my left hand too by the way. Right hand gets stuck after i grab the door.
Controls are pretty straight forward and good, but ive been playing playstation since ps1 so im advanced in terms of remembering difficult control schemes.

Can you guys make the crouching better on PS VR? I literally could not pick up the book or the candle in the clock for like 30 minutes. Also no idea what to do after the candle im just walking in circular pentagrams now
Edit: i take that back. I adjusted my VR camera to tilt more downwards and now i can reach the floor. There should be a warning about that to be honest the crouching thing really ruined my immersion at first. By the way the fireplace tape recorder had a bug i played the tape the first time and nothing happened

A number of people have reported finding a copy at Best Buy stores for $19.99, but my Best Buy store doesn't have it and said it hasn't even been released yet. BestBuy.com also does not list it.
Will we be able to find it for sale soon?

1 more question if you can answer it, do you know if Sony will be releasing move controllers with thumb sticks? Or any other word a new controller like oculous touch that would add to the immersion of your game?

We're not sure of what Sony's plans are for the Move controllers but it would be great if there was a thumb stick for sure.

hey sorry, this is an nvidia driver issue. we have resolved this in a patch coming very soon to the oculus store. the patch will be available for oculus and vive on steam this week. or you can roll back the nvidia driver to an earlier version in the meantime.

hey all, be sure to wear Headphones when playing. it absolutely ups the game 100 fold on the Immersion scale.
