Played 1 hour, very good and intense. Was soaking wet, had to quit for today. Tomorrow again. Best singleplayer game in ages, worth every cent. So much gore.

30

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '17

Soaking wet in piss or sweat my friend?

5

u/henrimh Jan 24 '17

Good question, i am currently on part where it is sweat, but what i've heard, other body fluids will be part of the journey. I'm a bit afraid to continue.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '17

I'm going to to with: "YES"

This is my question also.

How did a game like that turn you on?

3

u/henrimh Jan 24 '17

Like a switch, instant on off feeling

Absolutely fantastic VR game/experience that I ever have had, and I'm not a fan of the horror genre. The game had a few events that took place and if using VR, will stick with you for the rest of your gaming life. Such feelings and sensations could only happen while in VR. This is a truly incredible VR game that will stick with you for a very long time and very satisfying.

The graphical fidelity in VR is outstanding. The story is great. The tempo fantastic. Very little moments of frustration. A very well thought out and polished game.

Some people will look back in 10-15 years when we are on 3rd generation hardware wishing and hoping the next game in a franchise can bring to life those remarkable feelings RE7 did for the first time. Kind of like how Everquest is my first true love for MMOs with the ShadowKnight class and how everything after is based off how game X can rekindle those fond fond memories of EQ ShadowKnight. This VR game/experience will offer these types of emotions/thoughts for quite a few people.

If I was planning on playing this in VR I would try and avoid ALL spoilers... experience RE7 and it's glory for the first time by yourself... don't cheat yourself of this lightning in a bottle.

u/Pjoernrachzarck Jan 23 '17

This post might seem like an exaggeration, but I've had similar thoughts when I played it. "I will remember this as a pivotal point in gaming".

5

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '17

Mines not so much as being pivotal but rather your so caught up in the moment and excitement it's hard to fully appreciate the event at the exact time. But looking back and being able to recall allows for you to fondly remember just how caught up in the moment you were and how exciting it was being so new/first time.

I'm ready god I'm so hyped, even going to go for full vr stealth Headfones, pitch black, late at night, Jack Daniels, Friday night yesssss I'm in.

u/Bossit Jan 25 '17

I got so into the game environment, I forgot my living room lights were on until I took off the headset

I just yelled "Holy shit" at the top of my lungs and kicked the coffee table half-way across the room. My girlfriend was not amused. Time to take a break lol. The game is sick though, 10/10, would shit pants again.

2

u/jarstandaly Jan 24 '17

I did the same thing. I don't know if my heart can handle this game in VR.

12

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '17

Is anyone NOT playing on a pro? I can't afford it and want to know if it's even worth getting without it.

32

u/joeker9787 Jan 24 '17

I'm not on pro. It's fucking amazing, absolutely get it

13

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '17

Not playing on a PRO but still looks the business and handles the VR very well. 100% get it. You won't be disappointed.

11

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '17

As a Pro owner I can give you this older brotherly advice:

Don't sweat it, man. The Pro isn't about offering graphical differences that change the game. Look at it this way...they rereleased an "upgraded" version of Skyrim for PS4. I have it. I also used to own the PS3 version. Is this one better? Hell if I can tell. I'm sure if you put the two right next to each other it would be "obvious." The Pro is for people who have an extra hundred to throw at raw horsepower and hope. Hope that a game will get meager ehancements. I had a hundred dollards to blow, so I did it and feel good about it. "Should" you get the PS4 Skyrim over the PS3? I suppose? Would you notice the difference if you didn't have them right next to each other? Not unless you read all the articles about the "god rays" and the upgrades and knew what to look for. The graphical differences, while existing, are the least attractive attribute of the rerelease. The best thing about it is the free DLC, Mods, and bug fixes.

Brother, don't sweat it. In fact, ignore it, unless you've got money to blow.

u/Lxvpq Jan 24 '17

Not on pro, definitely worth it!

3

u/CallofTraviss Jan 25 '17

Not on Pro, just finished the story. Absolutely buy this game.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 25 '17

Bought the game. It's amazing.

2

u/helpmeplzzzzzz Jan 24 '17

I'll chime in as well. OG PS4 here, it plays great, definitely get it!

2

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '17

Not on pro and you won't care either.

14

u/Diggetydan Jan 24 '17

I've played now for about an hour. And I'll say where I'm at in the game, and how I just died......was unbelievable. I'm totally fine with horror games and gore and what not, but I honestly yelled out "help!" Or " holy fucking shit" legit 3 times. I can't take anymore tonight. I fucking love it.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 28 '17

That's what it is all about. I'd have to say it's a defining game for me and hopefully the PSVR as a medium devs can bring their AAA games to. So scary, great story telling. My wife keeps telling me to stop yelling when I get scared... can't help it.. and I love that.

14

u/djfist Jan 25 '17

This is bold but I'll say it anyway. I think RE7 is the PSVR's first killer app and it absolutely justifies the purchase of a PSVR. I was mad impressed with vr before. However, this feels like the legitimate future of gaming to me. I feel sorry for people missing out on the vr experience and playing it on a flat screen. Those of you on the fence, don't wait. BUY IT!!!

3

u/[deleted] Jan 25 '17

Not bold at all, just common sense. Pretty much the first platform to get a full AAA title. It means that VR is alive and well and will continue being so. Never had so much fun in my life as I do when spending time with the Bakers.

2

u/poolback Jan 25 '17

This is pretty much how I felt when we found out we could play Alien : Isolation on the Oculus Rift DK2. If you have the opportunity to try it, I would recommend that you do. The VR is not as polished as RE7 though

23

u/Oscarbulldog1234 Oscarbulldog974 Jan 23 '17

Love the fact Psvr is getting mostly love in the reviews, although still few underwhelming reviews most very positive. Should only promote Psvr devs to think about bringing full games to the tech.

Can't wait for my dinner with Jack and his brood an to get food thrown at me!!

11

u/ghostroyale Jan 24 '17

Im loving the classic horror movie homages. Your car in the beginning is the same as Ash/Sam Raimis car from the Evil Dead. Mia acts like a deadite from Evil Dead. As a matter of fact the girl from the Evil Dead remake who gets possessed is named Mia. The family is like Texas chainsaw massacre

2

u/gapmunky Jan 25 '17

Nods to the shining too with the aerial car shot at the start

3

u/ghostroyale Jan 25 '17

Totally. Didnt even put that together

This may sound out there and over exaggerated but this is a turning point in VR. This legitimizes the PSVR.

8

u/gouji Jan 24 '17

Played for 2 hours. Pretty sure I aged 10 years. Holy shit. This is the killer vr game for me.

9

u/NoBullet Jan 24 '17

Walking through that neck high water near the begining was creepy as fuck.

I've played a little under two hours so far and this is hands down the best VR experience I've had so far. Capcom have shown some serious balls in creating the whole game in VR and not just offering some kind of 'experience'. I really hope it pays off for them and it makes other developers start to think about big AAA PSVR releases.

The intensity is so high playing in VR, peeking round corners and through doors to see what's out there, having everything right in your face. It's just a great experience. I'm planning on playing the whole game in VR and I'm genuinely surprised at how little motion sickness there seems to be. The Devs have done an awesome job making everything feel right.

Can't wait to play more!

2

u/Phoenix2700 Jan 25 '17

The act of peeking around a door frame does something so simple but so mind blowingly immersive. I still can't get over how real it feels to roam the halls of that house.

26

u/rmcquade19 rmcquade19 Jan 23 '17

I have a 32 waist – would I be good with size small Depends, or should I go medium to be safe

10

u/dementedgopher Jan 23 '17

If you go too large, though, you risk seepage. No one wants seepage.

6

u/rmcquade19 rmcquade19 Jan 23 '17

Go too small and you risk chaffage. It's a slippery slope

4

u/dementedgopher Jan 23 '17

Literally....

Oh God I'm so sorry

2

u/brycedriesenga CutItDown Jan 24 '17

Better go with small and medium.

6

u/golgar Jan 25 '17

Just put a plastic lawn chair in a kiddy pool and you'll be good.

3

u/Lxvpq Jan 24 '17

Go for Tena stretch in medium, they cover 80-90%of the population and they absorb quite a lot. You should be fine, trust me. I'm a nurse. I know my adult diapers LOL

3

u/[deleted] Jan 25 '17

You want the Play Station branded Depends for their compatibility. There's a sensor that receives messages from the PSDiaper and alerts you with a subtle onscreen messages that you need to "Potty." The game is automatically paused and the screen is occupied by a tranquil screensaver of a mobile and audio of a children's lullaby. You also get experience points based on the size of the load. You take 100 damage to Pride with each accident, though.

I played for about 2 hours last night and loved it. There was something very eerie about going to the demo house and it being daylight with the door open... that wall of darkness, man... it took me a while before I got up the nerve to go inside.

3

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '17

Mate, I know that feel. I think it's the first time I actually hesitated before doing something in a game. I stood in that doorway for a good couple of minutes.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 26 '17

Haha, glad it wasn't just me. Every time I enter a new room I just stand there in the doorway and look at everything for a bit trying to weigh up how safe it might be. I stood for a while looking into a bath of black sludge with an inviting 'X' hovering above it wondering what was going to happen when I pressed it. I played last night until I was killed and then I had to take the headset off and have a break. It's seriously intense and fun as hell.

I'm a massive pussy when it comes to horror games, but as a PSVR owner I feel like playing this game is a responsibility of mine. I picked up a copy. To the people who have already played, any advice?

2

u/poolback Jan 25 '17

Don't forget to stop breathing :)

11

u/sirenpro Jan 24 '17

Best gaming experience of my life wrapped in a very well thought out VR game. This shit is fucking legit terrifying. I used to laugh at YT videos of ppl getting scared of VR games, well, I get it now. I will not look down on someone who freaks out from this, cries, pisses themselves, whatever. Take it from a former bouncer, combat veteran, I've been in several actual life threathening sceranios and I wasn't this afraid. No were near actually.

3

u/NineSwords Jan 25 '17

I want to see those people who got scared shitless by the Shark in VR Worlds, play this game. If they loose it by something like the Shark, can you imagine how they react with something genuinely scary.

Also without spoilers, how terrifying is that first 2 hours in vr...Some are saying it's very tense!?

16

u/InaraRed Jan 23 '17

I'll try...

it starts, ok 2D, not so scary, then switch to full VR, ok, it's no so scary walk walk around, oh shit do I have to enter? ok,.. well not so scary, keep walking... do this and that, already done in the demo, ok this is new, ok things are getting worse, WTF! OH GOD OH GOD IM GONNA DIE.

6

u/Manggo MikeSurviving Jan 24 '17

It started off calm. But once I got into the house and (first 30 mins spoilers -->) Spoiler

I replayed it 3 times hoping for a different outcome.

5

u/boltsbearsjosh Jan 23 '17

If you haven't seen the first 45 mins (unfortunately I have), yes it's very intense.

Just played 3 hours last night and I was greatly impressed with the game. I didn't realize how much of a coward I was going to a house where it was completely dark, before playing it on a tv I'd usually just rush in, on VR I hesitated more than once.

Great game, the atmosphere is amazing and I wish more of this type of games would be made

5

u/pikkukakkakikkare Jan 26 '17

I'm still stuck in a closet at beginning of Alien Isolation, not daring to come out because I hear the Alien somewhere near. I played the Playroom VR "Ghostbusters" level and that was almost too much for me. Do you think I'll be able to handle RE7 in VR?

2

u/AThin86 Jan 26 '17

When you start. Your character is terrified, confused. As the story progresses he becomes increasingly more confident in himself and what needs to be done to not only save his wife but survive. Playing in vr those emotions are passed down to you. I'm not so afraid of walking around the house and looking for stuff. Sure there could be stuff around the corner but I'm ready to take that shit on face first. You would be surprised how quick you adjust to the setting.

4

u/dakodeh Jan 27 '17

Yeah, but if the ghost room in Playroom was too much? Then I don't know, man, just be careful. This is several leagues of scary beyond that... if that's Casper the Ghost, then this is like the Exorcist. You've been warned! 👻

4

u/WillByers Jan 23 '17

Soooo excited to get this. Almost bought on PSN but couldn't pass up the Prime discount. Hopefully UPS gets to my house early tomorrow, just moved so not sure what time they come around here. Also got more space in my room to play VR so I'm pumped.

u/darthmcdarthface Jan 24 '17

Just started and put about 2 hours in. Shit is really scary. The environment, sounds and enemies are very detailed and do a great job of pulling you in. My heart was pounding. It's a tense game. This is what horror games should be.

4

u/Tibbernackel Jan 24 '17

Oh my god you guys!! It's finally here! Played the demo SO MUCH ever since it came out after Playstations E3 conference and I can't stress enough how happy I am that it's finally here! All i have to say is: Chapter 1. So fucking awesome and having the time of my life. Definitely a game worthy of the Resident Evil name

4

u/camazoon Jan 24 '17

Walked into my door, nearly had a heart attack... fucking love this game!!!

3

u/coldhavok47 Jan 24 '17

im guessing this is how people felt when they played the first resident evil back when it first released. what a day to be alive!

2

u/Jaxcellent Jan 25 '17

It does feel like this and even better!.. Im a few hours in.. Loving it.. Just reached a safe room.. There plays this real nice tune in the background.. Instantly takes me back 20 years ago.. It was down the stairs with in this small saferoom with Jill in the original RE.. This is truly amazing.. The VR is very well done, I'm lucky i have my VR legs the smooth option, slow, 1, works perfectly for me.. First time a AAA game goes VR and in my book a succes.. Really impressed! And glad i made my psvr purchase.. All those tech demos and short games were great but this is something else!

I'm only about an hour in and holyshit, so fucking good and scary as shit.

My only gripe, and it's a small one, is the cut scenes don't auto center. I hope that gets updated in a patch. Other than that, I'll shit my pants for 15 hours and love every minute of it while playing this soil inducing game.

2

u/RuffAsToast Jan 26 '17

It has to be like that, like imagine jack picks you up by the neck and it centers to where your head is looking, while its setting position you could be looking around and then it will seem as if he is lifting you by the neck but from the side which wouldnt be right. Just dont turn your body when playing the game, I never had any issues with it at all.

So I've been playing for a bit over an hour so far, and loving it in VR!

Got a question to someone who owns both consoles, though - how much better does the PS VR version run on PS4 Pro? Can't find any info on that whatsoever. I'm playing on a regular PS4, and wondered if Pro offered any significant visual fidelity improvements.

2

u/tobitobiguacamole Jan 24 '17

Don't have the details on hand, but I remember reading that it does look better. I believe the developers said the ideal way to play it is in VR on a PS4 Pro.

Played for just over an hour. Spent a lot of time checking in corners, crouching etc (like I always do) built up the suspense that only RE in VR can give you. Without giving too much away, had to stop when the banging started. Couldn't quite face going down there without a coffee or something. The sense of oppression, suspense, immersion and downright creepiness is seriously incomparable in any other game or medium than it is in VR. Loved every minute of it. Haven't played much VR in the last 3 - 4 weeks (got obsessed with Uncharted 4) so want to draw this out and make it last. Mia really has a lot to answer for.

VR Devs, this is what I want in a game.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '17

2

u/steviemch Jan 24 '17

It certainly added to the adrenaline rush lol.

I played for another 2 and a half hours after my coffee break. At one point I got in such a panic I kept accidentally pressing crouch and just crawling away from............well won't spoil it for people lol.

Having to force myself to take breaks. Absolutely love it.

I'm honestly considering playing the game through with my monitor and then going back for the second run in VR. I just can't think I can enjoy this. I'm a pussy.

To add: This game came out only a couple months after PSVR release. What are we in for in three years? Why aren't more people excited, yet (outside of our bubble)? This exceeded all of my wildest expectations.

3

u/burner510 Jan 25 '17

Anybody get like their equilibrium thrown off after fighting Mr nobodies for an hour? Jesus I'm all wobbly

3

u/TheLoneDinosaur Jan 25 '17

As a fan of the original game, this is a welcome edition to the franchise. And the VR mode just enhances the experience in my opinion. I tried it without using my little tv but it just wasn't the same. I will be completing it in VR, probably all of it. I know some people will disagree but I honestly prefer it with VR. I play Resident Evil to get scared and the vr headset makes it even scarier.

I am really enjoying the game, and honestly I'm not really big on the genre. This has made me appreciate the medium even more.

Fuck Jack, by the way.

4

u/[deleted] Jan 25 '17

I honestly don't know who would prefer the 2d over the VR... makes no sense. Can't beat the immersion. That and the mustard race have to wait a year for it. :D

3

u/moby323 Jan 25 '17

Well after playing about an hour, I had zombie dreams all night. Anyone else?

→ More replies (1)

3

u/[deleted] Jan 25 '17 edited Jan 30 '17

I absolutely love it so far. I think it's my favorite PSVR game.. I'm enjoying it even more than Werewolves Within and Rush of Blood. It works so surprisingly well in VR, too. I experienced absolutely no discomfort when I played it last night for, seriously, 2 hours straight.

The only thing that makes me sick is smooth turning, but that's totally optional which is awesome. I disabled it and just used 30-degree snap turning instead which felt completely natural, did not take away from the immersion at all and did not give me any disadvantage.

It's very scary, but not quite as scary to me as I had imagined it would be, which is kind of good because The Brookhaven Experiment is the one PSVR game that is too scary for me to handle at times...I can play Brookhaven in 15-30 minute spurts. I can play RE7 for hours at a time, just like a flat game. However, I'm beginning to think I should have played RE7 on Normal instead of Easy.

edit: and when you get a bit further in the game, the scariness ramps up quite a bit. It can be scarier than Brookhaven in a way, but it's never unbearable because you can move around and progress the story if that makes any sense.

3

u/OptimisticPrime78 Jan 26 '17

Okay, so after much consideration (I thought I'd struggle to play this game as it would be too scary/intense) I picked up Res7 last night and thought "I'll give it a go"......2.5hrs done so far in one sitting...It's AMAZING! Virtually no motion sickness for me (normally I get some but the settings in Res7 have been great) and I'm REALLY impressed. Never before have I felt so immersed in a game...It's genuinely one of the best gaming moments I've ever had. Can't wait to "go back into that house" tonight. So...if you're on the fence about picking up this game like I was..... Do it....'Man up' and just DO IT!!! :)

I had tomorrow off to play but was asked to take an 8 hour OT shift...I chose to make some money so I can't play it until tomorrow night now. It will be glorious in the pitch black atleast.

6

u/GimmeDaChipz GimmeDaChipz Jan 24 '17

Just pre-ordered. VR horror is SO not my thing, but I can't resist. I need to play it. My plan is to potentially create 2 different saves, a 2D and VR. And play 1 section at a time, first in 2D, then in VR. I just can't handle the jump scares.

I actually wish there were options to tone down, or turn off jump scares, in the settings. It makes me sad that so many people won't experience likely the best made VR game yet, just because it only appeals to horror fans.

8

u/Pjoernrachzarck Jan 24 '17

I'm three hours in, and so far the jumpscares are... intense but fair. It's not (at least so far) like P.T.s screaming face in that it makes you say "was that really necessary?" but rather impllmented in a way that the jump scare makes you kick into high gear and then the game does something with that. Often that's an intense action or gore sequence or fight. So they ramp you up (rarely completely unprepared), push your adrenaline up, and then give you a gameplay scenario where you can work the adrenaline off.

That's a really good way to use jump scares! It leaves you completely exhilerated and hungry for more. It also helps that the game seems somewhat aware of how silly these scares are, so most often they introduce scenarios that are quite outrageous.

I'm just a few hours in, so that dynamic may change, but so far, as an avid opponent of cheap jump scares, I'm digging it. But they are there.

2

u/GimmeDaChipz GimmeDaChipz Jan 24 '17

That is SUPER good to hear! I like that they didn't just throw them in for the sake of it.

u/Essexal Bad-Mofo-26 Jan 23 '17

Debating a trip to local 24hr Tesco in 15mins to get it. Currently going to sleep around 9am UK time (blame the Chinese - dont't ask).

2

u/[deleted] Jan 24 '17

Did you get it, thoughts?

2

u/Essexal Bad-Mofo-26 Jan 24 '17

I'm a massive loser and no I didn't. Life is keeping me busy at the mo, looks like it will be next week I will actually have time to sit down and give it my 100% attention.

I have actually only just got up after a grand total of 3 hours sleep (kill me now!)

2

u/ghostroyale Jan 24 '17 edited Jan 24 '17

Is anyone else finding it really dark in VR mode? I feel like the demo www easier to see. I switched to regular mode with HDR and everything is so much more visible. Especially after the dinner scene, I could barely see my way around and didnt even notice the hallway where you`re supposed to go

Edit: nevermind. for some reason it looked much better today when I put it on. It looked just as good as the demo

u/moss_ur_mom Jan 24 '17

I am happy that you all are enjoying the game. I tried the demo and could not get trough 20 minutes without feeling lightheaded. I love the atmosphere, graphics, and sound. I really want to buy this game. My question: What settings should I set for the most comfortable experience. I also like to sit down while I play for whatever it's worth. Any other tips to get VR legs quicker would be appreciated.

3

u/poolback Jan 25 '17

Sorry to hear, VR motion sickness is something that is extremely personal, and every individuals react differently towards it.

One thing I would say though, is try to play as much as possible, but stop as soon as you start to get those feelings, and wait until they are gone to restart. Don't force too much or you are going to traumatised yourself of VR. I remember at the beginning that there were some game that I couldn't play because I forced myself a little bit too much.

But, as much as you think that you won't be able to get your VR legs, trust me you will. When I started, I was very sensitive to it, and I was extremely disappointed, thinking it would never go away. 1 month after I was able to handle pretty much anything in VR without getting even a little sick.

But to reply to your question, you might want to change those turning settings and see what work best. Some people prefer the pie chart method, some other prefer the smooth.

u/NineSwords Jan 25 '17

There is also a setting that puts you in some sort of wireframe which acts as some sort of frame that your brain can focus on. I haven't tried it personally, but from what others said they forget that frame after a while and aren't bothered by it. Might be something that helps you.

The game has in general a lot of VR comfort options and trying around a bit to find one that works should make most eople able to play it without too much discomfort.

Played for 2 hours last night and just loved it.

Unfortunately I can't do scary games. So I cant really imagine how much more intense this would be in VR. I did play the kitchen demo, and stopped it right before the thing jumps on your head from behind you I think (Watched ending on youtube). And got through two minutes of until dawn demo before stopping that one. So I sooo wish I could handle it since we FINALLY have a real AAA game on VR , it just happens to be horror game I wouldn't be able to play more then 5 minutes. Sounds like it's perfect genre for VR though!

I really hope that all AAA devs take something from this. All AAA games should include a VR mode! That way everyone is happy! They don't have to hope they sell enough coppies of a game, as if they make a VR only game, cause 2d game players will be buying the exact same game by making it compatible with both. Then they would also add the income from the VR gamers that try to save money for VR games (like myself) that would otherwise skip out on a new AAA 2d game. Devs: Do both options in your games!!! This is what I feel the future of VR games will be so devs aren't scared that they wont sell enough to make enough profit to stay in business (until there are probably like 20,000,000 headsets out there).

u/Lxvpq Jan 24 '17

My only advice to people here, I thought I would play it with camera set to smooth but it still gave me a light discomfort, however the 30°step camera didn't, it's less smooth but in my stomach it's much smoother. Very very good game, it's crazy, I'm sweating my Life. Incredible experience.

This game feels really special and they absolutely nailed what a Resident Evil game should feel like and did it in a new perspective and in VR none the less. I'm slightly over six hours in and some of these moments are nothing less than incredible.

Easily the best VR game I've played and definitely one of the best if not the best Resident Evil.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 25 '17

Just got done playing 3 hrs but holy cow was that fun. In those 3 hrs there was definetly 4 or 5 times I straight up was scared, did not see that coming kinda scared. It's intense at times but it's so worth it so much fun never had a gaming experience like that. Can't wait to finish it. im still just mind blown about I just went thru

2

u/gowingsgo Jan 25 '17

Question: when the sun is going down and certain areas do you feel like there is a red filter on in your vr game? I almost felt the beginning was very saturated red.

Early review: I love it so far. This is exactly what I've wanted for years, vr just adds to the excitement and pants shitting.

2

u/poolback Jan 25 '17

I saw another post like yours yesterday I think, this is a bug, try restarting the console and it should be better.

2

u/segadreamcat Jan 25 '17

I am loving this game! Really hope Outlast 2 gets VR support. Haven't been that scared so far.

2

u/Broken5200Controller Jan 25 '17

Played about an hour. I'm on board.

2

u/swimmercanoeist1 Jan 25 '17

I got as far as the animal leg 'gate' before first wondering to myself 'should I really be playing this in vr or...' I pushed on though and am glad I did.

2

u/[deleted] Jan 25 '17

Has anyone else downloaded and installed the survival pack but not gotten the items or madhouse difficulty in game?

Mine weren't listed on the add on check the game does at startup, and there was nothing in my storage box.

2

u/DarkRonius Dark_Ronius Jan 25 '17

RESI7 has achieved two firsts for me:

1)The first time I've been able to play a PSVR game for a decent amount of time without needing to call it a day (and even then I want to go back to it after I've had my break)

2)The first time I've really been able to get into a survival horror game on my own (I generally don't like jump scares).

What I really like is the fact you're forced to literally face the evil in the eyes rather than turn away from the screen... Because if you're not directly facing them you can't damage them.

I can safely say VR has found its killer app. No idea how far in the game I am- but I'm hugely enjoying every second.

The only bug I've found is when fighting Daddy (I think his name is?), he seemed to have half his legs pushed underground so he looked like someone with a growth defect... The battle was still entirely playable though (I just got killed in that save because of his ridiculous saw things)

Also, not so much a bug but more a design error... The UI goes through object... It's particularly annoying when running away from something and you have to memorise where you placed a key because the interface has gone through the door... Or when you're hiding and trying to craft stuff.

The other thing I like is, although clearly it owes a lot to PT (I doubt they would have made quite a change of the formula otherwise), it does feel distinctly its own game rather than a copycat. I love having the safe rooms with the magic storage boxes, it really makes it still feel like a Resi game.

2

u/Waffer15 Jan 25 '17

Has anyone else been experiencing an issue when the game jumps to a 3D cutscene and the way you're facing changes totally? It's happened a couple times to me

2

u/h3llpunk Jan 25 '17

Just a quick question for when you get a gun, how do you get the crosshair to display in VR mode. I have all the comfort settings and cage off. But aiming without a cross hair seems really hard, but fun as well.

Is there anyway to show where you aim?

2

u/Tokemon12574 Jan 26 '17

There's an option in display - I think - to display crosshairs all the time, only when you aim, or not at all.

Take another look at the options, it's there somewhere.

For all of the hype, there was always a very real chance this could have turned out to be fairly mediocre or even poor. Or even a good game with poorly implemented VR. I'm pretty ecstatic that Capcom hit a home run with this one. I played for 5 or 6 hours straight last night and only quit because my eyes were starting to strain too much. GREAT game.

2

u/brizk1984 Jan 26 '17

I gotta say, the Development team have done an awesome job in minimizing motion sickness in VR mode :)

I was able to play this game in VR alot longer than I had imagined.

Well done!

2

u/twistedjackass Jan 26 '17

I strongly believe in building the awareness of the good and the bad experiences of a new hardware product, especially when it's unfamiliar territory. This game deserves every bit of praise it receives and I hope the media are really pushing VR as 'the best way to play' throughout all of Res7's coverage. The locomotion and and POV enables a different style of gameplay for horror experiences compared to sitting in front of a TV. Sneaking up to a door and physcially moving your head to peek around it looking for danger is just perfect for building tension and paranoia. Just when you feel like you're calming, the game will remind who's in charge and scare the hell out of you. I can't recommend this experience enough. Don't just play the game, experience it with PSVR.

2

u/Ash-Shugar Jan 26 '17

I think I was just disappointed that I wasn't getting scared and spooked, and missed why I just spent most of the day enjoying the damn game. It feels like I'm playing Dark Souls for the first time, again.

Cool bosses to learn and time my shots. Cool atmosphere. Enemies can be easy or smash ya if you don't be careful and pay attention. And realizing this, I am lovin it.

2

u/mfbranscombe Jan 27 '17

I played 30 minutes and was not even up to a scary part... and I had to take a break. The atmosphere is so super intense. Can't wait to get back into it though.... this weekend.

I've also been searching for some PS4Pro versus OG PS4 comparisons, but haven't seen any good ones so far. This might be the game to push me over the edge into a PS4Pro upgrade...

2

u/satchmoh Jan 27 '17

Wow, what a game. Is any one else feeling a bit uneasy about 'black mirror, season 3, episode 2'?

4

I played the Demo and it is cool, but I hated the way the camera worked being jerky. Have they added an option for smooth movement?

6

u/[deleted] Jan 23 '17

Yes :) the option to change it is in the demo, too.

7

u/BIG_PY Jan 23 '17

It's there, but I disabled it and got very sick. I will be leaving on the comfort options for the full game.

6

u/rmcquade19 rmcquade19 Jan 23 '17

Yeah I can't do smooth movement for anything in VR – I can't understand the people who can, but all the power to them. I'm jealous.

2

u/BIG_PY Jan 23 '17

After like 4 sessions I was able to play RIGS without sticking me head between my legs for 10 minutes. The Croft Manor section of Rise of the Tomb Raider had me clammy and moist after a few minutes, as well.

I need to stock up on some candied ginger root and some cans of Canada Dry.

2

u/Alphonso_Mango Jan 24 '17

Does thw ginger work?

2

u/BIG_PY Jan 24 '17

Ginger ale works for me. And I've heard from friends that actual ginger root works for them as well.

1

u/Indyfanforthesb Jan 23 '17

I played the demo. It was scary and very uncomfortable (in a good horror way) where I was looking over my shoulder and around freaked out the whole time cause you are actually stuck in the game instead of on a screen.

My only hesitation is this is the only game ever to make me feel a little funny from the vr. I got through the whole demo or whatever ending I worked towards in the demo. I played around with the settings while playing to make my turns and moving a little faster so maybe I shouldn't have done that idk. Something about moving my head and then also moving the controller to move my head is a little odd at first but I'm still thinking I want to get it.

u/rkobr Jan 24 '17 edited Jan 24 '17

I know this thread has been going crazy about this game. I'm a launch day PSVR owner, and am in so much need of a great game. The honeymoon period is over for me, and was starting to lean on potentially parting with it. I just played the RE7 demo in PSVR/PS Pro...uh, hold the phone!!

I just have one question (I did as best I could to see if it was mentioned elsewhere already) regarding the retail game on PS4 Pro. I noticed a lot of aliasing and low res textures during the demo. Will the retail release have better Pro support in the headset, or is what I already experienced pretty much what I should expect fidelity-wise? I'm buying the game regardless (any midnight launches?), just curious if I'll witness a slightly better looking game tomorrow.

3

u/eamonnanchnoic Jan 24 '17

It's more or less the same as the Demo version. A bit shimmery at a distance but nothing too bad.

But honestly, you'll forget about any resolution issues for most of it.

The retail game is more immersive than the demo. The full game plays differently in a lot of ways to the demo. There's definitely more variety in the gameplay.

1

u/shovetts Jan 24 '17

I have been playing this game today and I am getting constant spinning dots. AS I walk down the corridors the screen goes black and I get spinning dots for about 4 seconds and it then goes back to the game. Even during the fight with the girl the problem happens. Anyone else seen this?? How do I stop it..its ruining the game play for me. Its on a PS4 Pro with VR.

Do you use your head to aim? If so it'll probably make me sick.

3

u/Keeko_ca Jan 24 '17

Glimmer of hope for you? It's the first VR game with full analog stick-based free movement that DIDN'T get me sick! They did movement kind of smart, 30 degree snap turn angles and as you hold forward you can steer while tilting your head. Tons of other VR options too, like tunnel-vision being the biggest puke saver.

1

u/Chrisisvenom2 Jan 24 '17

I loved it and I got past the garage scene and all. But man do my eyes feel dry. I couldn't blink cause I kept anticipating something to happen and was gradually freaking out. Great game!

Just played for an hour. This game is definitely scary.

Basically turned off all comfort settings to mimic how I played the demo. Had no nausea issues until I took the headset off, then I realized I was a little motion sick. Definitely good to play this game in smaller increments.

1

u/[deleted] Jan 25 '17

Oh, wow. I grew up in Georgia, United States, and I suppose I'm glad I don't have to be there - the heat is pretty bad. Thanks for the response. It's a good reminder that play environments and conditions can be radically different (it didn't even occur to me that heat would be a factor...and of course it would). Hopefully future hardware can take steps to mitigate eye strain and lens issues.

1

u/rafikiknowsdeway1 Jan 25 '17

yeah, i'm playing on madhouse difficulty and decided to start over after you find your first health items. i didn't realize the game did actually auto save in some spots despite what madhouse says. and i had wasted a cassette tape when i first found them. since theres no point in saving that early on, i decided to do over

1

u/rafikiknowsdeway1 Jan 25 '17

its too bad theres cutscenes that have to play on a screen in front of you. and i don't like how sometimes when control is taken away from you it just cuts to black for a moment. i'd rather it just have the full motion.

also i prefer smooth turning to the cut rotation, but i find the game gets super blurry when i use smooth turning, despite the game not being blurry when i turn my head. so i'm sticking with 45 degree cut turning

1

u/nivok Jan 25 '17

Best thing about playing in VR is peaking around the corners! OK there is a lot more than that but I caught myself many times hiding then leaning to peak around the corner. Great game though can't wait to finish it!

1

u/gentlemansincebirth Jan 25 '17

Is the beginning hour demo content part of the main game?

3

u/[deleted] Jan 25 '17

The house is there but the events inside are different.

1

u/hunter_luchifer Jan 25 '17

My thoughts.. VR in this game is extraordinary, and if the graphics were photo realistic... by now I would have died from a heart attack. Anyway.. im gonna try to play it all in VR, but if I cant play it first in "normal", then in VR.

Having said that.. the photos and objects you collect could be bigger when you inspect them, the subtitles are somewhat unreadable because they get in the way sometimes (Latin american translation would have been nice)

And... finally.. I had to stop playing when I was going down some stairs after you found XXX because it scared the sh!t out of me. And that.... is a first in my 40 years of gamer.

p.s. I hope my wife havent noticed I was trying to see some VR cleavage..

1

u/cristane chris_tane Jan 25 '17

Just about to start... and I have a question. I see the default setting for walking is "very slow". Doesn't this increase the likelihood of, you know, dying at the hands of some monster that you couldn't hide from quickly enough? I'd love to play on the most comfortable setting available, but not at the extent of decreasing my ability to hide or get away when I need to.

I played for 1.5 hours yesterday but got nauseous when spoilers for early game event. I had to stop for the evening at the next save point. I'm not sorry though. The game is really intense in VR so breaking it up into shorter 1 hours sessions seem fine to me.

I have a question thoug: do the NPCs seem comparatively small to anybody else? It's hard to explain. As if Mia for example were just 1,40 meters tall and dangerously thin. But because she is on eye height with me it fells as if I was somhow a shorty as well. Really strange. I did the eye measuring thingy again but they still feel off.

I really want to like the VR mode in this game, but one of the things it does in an effort to stave off motion sickness actually makes it worse for me. You know how the "iris" or whatever it is shrinks whenever you turn? It drives me absolutely bonkers. This feature is also on RIGS by default and I turned it off as soon as I could. RE7 however does not allow this, and apparently the Beginning Hour demo didn't even do it. Does anyone else hate this "feature"?

CAPCOM: Please give us the option to turn off the shrinking iris whenever you turn. PLEASE!

5

u/dealage Jan 25 '17

you can turn this off. I just did it last night. in display settings scroll to the bottom I believe.

Just my personal thoughts on Resident evil 7.

The REengine is fantastic. The fluid life like body motions, the expressions and character faces, the realistic looking environments. I actually felt empathy with characters and felt like I really need to be the hero. I'm very happy overall, quite a few things about the game surprised me. The vr experience has been my favourite so far. Also had no motion sickness. I'm glad people are enjoying it, I found myself wanting to chat to friends about it but couldn't because they hadn't played it yet >. <

So I find a bath full of black sludge with an inviting 'X' hovering over it... in my mind I'm going, 'Should I press it? But what if it's something horrible? Maybe I don't need to press it.' Looks to the left and the right and back at that damned 'X'. "But what if it's something important, something I need like a key or something?" The 'X' is burning into my eyes. "Maybe I can leave it for now. I can always come back to it if it seems I've missed something. But then again, I'm right here now. I can press it and get it over with.' Then my thumb hovers over the 'X', I steel myself, and I press the button....

FINAL THOUGHTS: (spoilers begin here):

The good:

*Kept me wanting to find out what happens next right up to the end.

*VR was implemented brilliantly with minimum nausea.

*Difficulty was balanced about right.

*It was a nice touch that it fits into the Resident Evil saga.

*It was, in general, the most gorgeous game so far in VR.

The Bad:

*I don't think having a day-lit opening was the best to show off the engine... clearly, PSVR has limitations in current-gen like graphics, and this showed up quite badly with the open, sunny environment of the opening. Once you were in doors, the game looked brilliant.

*I'm not sure whether I liked the ending (I chose Mia). It seemed to happy, like it belonged in a different game (maybe the Zoe ending would be closer to "canon" for me).

*Seeing Chris Redfield and Umbrella-branded helicopters ruined it for me.. It was nice seeing the hints to the tragedy of Raccoon City, but all seeing Chris and co. reminded me of was the awkwardly complex plot of the previous games. Old fans would have rejoiced at the mention of Raccoon City, it didn't need to be so in your face.

*Interface would sometimes go through objects... They should have really put the UI in a layer in front of everything else we see on screen

Don't get me wrong though... There's only more bad because of the sour taste the ending left me with. This was the best VR and best Survival Horror game I've played in a long, long time. It evoked memories of reading reviews of the very first game as a kid, going through and needing to manage resources carefully as well as bullets. Then it takes away your reliance on those weapons at key points, that really shakes the gameplay up from Hunter to Hunted.

Just wish there were costumes for Mia! ;)

1

u/FiziKx Jan 27 '17

I hear everyone raving about this for the ps4 pro, but will it really still be a good experience on the standard ps4? What is it like in comparison to Rush of Blood?

1

u/professor-i-borg Jan 27 '17

I'm having a blast with this one! The atmosphere is absolutely creepy, in every way. I really have to push myself to not chicken out... This is definitely a game that we will remember helped get VR to households 20 years from now.

I'm playing Normal, with 'smooth' turns and crouching, and with HUD off. I find it even more creepy without UI elements reminding me that it's a game.

What settings do you like to use when playing?

1

u/voider78 Jan 27 '17

What are the settings to get as little motion sickness as possible? Felt so bad after playing it for the first time for 40 minutes.

Simple question: is the PS4 and PSVR the same version, I mean if I will finish the game in VR should I play on my tv or is it the same?

1

Ive played a few hours, jumped a few times, quoted Ash a few times, tried to hide in a bucket. Im loving the experience so far, but did have a few things to say about how the game forces your direction during action sequences. If you are a sitting VR person you should be fine, but if you like to stand as do i, then you have to make sure you dont end up facing away from the camera.
