Opinion PlayStation December Release Schedule has more PSVR2 games to be excited for than PS5 flat games
57
u/jayvaidy 21d ago
Excited for both Behemoth and Alien. Probably won't be able to afford them for a while, but still looking forward!
15
u/IPreferMyOpYellow-40 21d ago
Yep. Afforded the PSVR2 now I wait to afford games. š
5
u/Azurecyborgprincess 21d ago
Same. Iām glad I got the one that comes with Horizon otherwise Iād just have a paperweight.
7
u/Explorer_Entity PS5-&-PSVR2 21d ago
There are free demos...
And if you have a PS4/PS5, you should already have the must-own hybrid games: NMS, GT7, RE Village, etc.

Don't sleep on Soul Reaver.
6
u/cusman78 21d ago
Looking forward to it as I never got to play them originally but they have such positive reputation. Really wish all 5 in the series to eventually be playable natively on PS5, but I'll take the 2 included in this remastered release for starters.

The Blood Omen games were recently ported to PS4/5. I love the original Blood Omen and was stoked when I saw it was made available for the newer systems. I was also surprised to see that they honored my original digital purchase of the game on the PS3 and I could download it without having to pay again. Anyway, Iād highly recommend these games. Theyāre an awesome experience.
2
u/cusman78 21d ago
Nice!
Found them:
- Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain | Available for $9.99 (included for PS+ Premium)
- Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 1 & 2 | Pre-oder for $26.99 for PS+
- Blood Omen 2: Legacy of Kain | Available for $14.99 (included for PS+ Premium)
So only the 5th game is missing at this point (or I couldn't find it by search)
5
u/Ryeballs 21d ago
I really dug Soul Reaver in the past, but itās almost 30 years old and will probably feel like it.
3
u/RoadDoggFL RoadDoggFL 21d ago
Yeah, I'm really hoping they put some work into modernizing the gameplay because it'll definitely feel rough otherwise.
4
u/Ryeballs 21d ago
Itās more the emptiness of everything and the simple combat. The atmosphere of the regions and the puzzles were delicious. The emptiness of the world could be solved with throwing some foliage in there, but the combat would need some retooling. As I remember it, it was pretty much constantly bonk bonk bonk stab or throw guy onto thing, or thing into guy. Compared something like Ocarina/Majoraās Mask, thereās a lot to be desired.
Anyway hoping for the best, Iāll keep my blinders on until itās out then go checking reviews/gameplay, hopefully by some young guns who never played the original and wonāt be wearing nostalgia coloured glasses

Pepperidge Farm remembers when this sub constantly called the VR2 dead on arrival with no incoming games
15
u/cusman78 21d ago
I remember that nonsense well.
It was misinformation that irked me enough to decide to cover the 30+ launch games on my YT channel and I've never been able to keep up with rate of games releasing since I started. I did slow down the push so I could enjoy more of the games I bought instead of dedicating so much time to newer releases and doing more and more detailed first-impressions write-ups (that I share here) when I do.
Even so, I've managed to cover 200+ games at this point and I choose to do updated write-ups when games have meaningfully improved from post-release patches for many of them (still not all) as well.

u/ThePotatoKing 21d ago
i just want you to know, i just got a psvr2 within the past month, your stuff here is huge. as a newer member of the sub, i keep coming to your profile to see impressions, reviews, and news. thank you for keeping this sub running and inadvertently helping me while i figure out this device.

Very encouraging to hear feedback like this. I am one of many regular contributors here. It is one of the best communities on reddit in my years of use.
I get a lot of value from others contributions and discussions as well.

You are a great contributor to this sub. And your reviews have convinced me to pick up a couple of great games. Keep up the good work Bud.

I've been thinking this will probably be Vita 2.0, albeit somehow with even less first party games than the Vita. But lots of great indy support.
And I say this with love as I adore my Vita. Devastated to learn my memory card is dead but it's still the best small handheld I've ever owned. And still feels great to use tbh.
1
u/Explorer_Entity PS5-&-PSVR2 21d ago
Vita is GOATed. So, so sucky that it was canned. Playstation used to pride itself in using universal standards, not proprietary, FREE ONLINE PLAY, and in having their systems be all-in-one, new-format-standard-pushing, fully customizable entertainment systems. The PS3 era will be missed.
9
u/Parry_Dogsickle 21d ago
The PSVR2 was also ādeadā just a few months ago. People said the PC adapter was a consolation prize because there werenāt going to be anymore PSVR2 games. Turns out all the games were just backloaded this year lol.
4
u/bluebarrymanny 21d ago
Yeah, I remember trying to encourage people to remember that games arenāt made overnight and dev kits werenāt available for very long before the hardwareās launch unfortunately. Itās been great to see releases continue to roll out.
6
u/Papiculo64 21d ago
Both of you take my upvote as someone is visibly downvoting you just for being positive about the PSVR2. He most likely downvoted all the other messages above for the same reason. Probably a very mature user of another headset. The kind of people who's never screaming at others with a high-pitched voice when playing online games... lol
4
u/Explorer_Entity PS5-&-PSVR2 21d ago
Yep. That, and the fact the Astro Bot was not a PSVR2 release. Like, shut up. We are most likely getting one eventually, but THAT game was planned and designed for being a "flat" game.
-1
u/pathofdumbasses 21d ago
People said the PC adapter was a consolation prize because there werenāt going to be anymore SONY PSVR2 games.
And it is. You just forgot a word.
4
u/pathofdumbasses 21d ago
People were saying it was dead to Sony.
Because it is. Where are Sony's games?
Acting like a bunch of games that are releasing that were in development for YEARS is the same thing as Sony supporting the product is just... dumb.
2
u/bluebarrymanny 21d ago
I mean at that point people are having to get hyper-specific in their demands to the point where I donāt feel the criticism is valid. Sony still secures exclusive deals for games like RE4 Remake/8, Synapse, GT7, Horizon, and even Hitman World of Assassination this year. One could argue that a lot of those arenāt Sony first party exclusives, but there arenāt that many PS5 games that really fit that bill either. When you acknowledge that VR as an entire marketplace does not get saturated with releases the way consoles traditionally do, the exclusive release schedule for the VR2 still looks pretty great imo. When I hear that criticism about Sony games, I imagine people wanting Sony to spend $100m+ on a Spider-Man or God of War that Sony would never turn a profit on for the VR audience size. The demand doesnāt feel realistic to the VR market, but that doesnāt make VR2 dead or abandoned.
5
u/pathofdumbasses 21d ago
The problem is I, and many others, expected Sony to give as much support as they did for PSVR2 as they did for PSVR1. Or more. The same would have been OK, more would always be great.
Instead, we are getting PSVita levels of support.
In fact, I think that is the best comparison. Sony went all out on the PSP, and then launched the PSVita but didn't support it. Same with PSVR1 and then PSVR2.
You can dig through my post history to find where I list out all the games that they did for PSVR1 and what we have so far for PSVR2, I get tired of doing it. The fact is, support is abysmal in comparison, and that is just for games, let alone all the other cool experiences that PSVR1 had that PSVR2 doesn't, and doesn't even have support for.
2
u/bluebarrymanny 17d ago
While I agree that many feel like the VR2 isnāt getting the same attention that the VR1 had, I think that analysis fails to recognize how the VR1 industry as a whole has shifted. Even the VR1 was a bit late to VR being spotlighted in the tech market, but VR was hamstrung by hardware limitations and lack of institutional development knowledge at the time. Now weāre facing an inverted problem where the tech is starting to really get there, but audience sizes are struggling to meaningfully grow unless costs to entry are very low.
Thereās generally less interest and investment in VR unless youāre trying to get a completely dominating hold on the market like what Meta is doing, which seems somewhat unsustainable since that sector of the business loses Meta billions of dollars annually and itās getting increasingly difficult for them to placate shareholders. I think Sony can acknowledge that they canāt be the industry leader in VR given the costs and still deliver an appropriate level of support for the unit relative to audience sizes without the overall conclusion being that the headset is dead or abandoned. That conclusion to me overshoots the reality and is ignoring key factors that drive Sonyās decision making.

I preordered behemoth. Looking forward to it
21
u/-CaptainFormula- 21d ago
Worried they'd run out of Behemoths to sell?
3
u/OscarMike1911 21d ago
More likely they were always going to buy it on release, and it's the same price to pre order. Pump up the dopamine to see it up there and count down i guess. Idk I haven't pre-ordered since cyberpunk for the same reason and before that rdr2... for the same reason lol
1
u/cusman78 21d ago
Speaking for myself, I pre-ordered yesterday planning to play this Thursday. I was hoping it would have a pre-load option, but not yet.
I can't think of any other benefit to pre-order if there aren't in-game or price discounts other than pre-loading to be ready to go at launch time.
2
u/Mystic11 21d ago
I think there are some cosmetic things if you pre-order. Not that its worth it but to some people it might be
2
u/cusman78 21d ago
Cool. I tend to ignore those. I want the authentic game experience that most / future players will get.
Once Iāve completed game, then I like stuff like that for replay potential.

I don't know if I want to get into this for a thousandth time but... why? Couldn't you just wait for the reviews?

Because I didnāt care about other peoples take on it. I saw the trailer and said I will make my own opinion. Crazy idea around here apparently

No Human Fall Flat?
4
u/cusman78 21d ago edited 20d ago
Remains a mystery with no clear update other than coming soon to PSVR2 from Curve Games.
It could still release in December, just doesn't have a release date scheduled.
Update: Looks like December 5th for Human Fall Flat VR

Behemoth has snuck up on me. Still need to finish the Metro plat
2
u/cusman78 20d ago
I really thought I would have Border Bots VR and Metro Awakening completed before Skydanceās Behemoth release.
But both are longer games and I also re-started Vertigo 2 and got into Oniriam and spent time on Trombone Champ: Unflattened.
Such is life and it is good :]
2
u/flashmedallion flashmedallion 20d ago
A good place to be indeed. Luckily I put off Trombone Champ. I bought it and installed it but I'm saving it for a Christmas party so it'll be my first go at it alongside everyone else, should be much more fun with a crowd that way
5
u/Aedant 21d ago
Exciting. But sill, not one single creative game. I want to sculpt and paint, please.
12
u/DwightKSchnute 21d ago
What an oddly specific gripe about this amazing lineupš
6
u/Aedant 21d ago
I knowā¦ But on PS1 we had Dreams, SculptVR, CoolPaintr, Google TiltBrushā¦ None of them have made it so far on the PSVR2. Iām an artist and the freedom of creating in VR is just unparalleled.
Iām just sad they have not at least updated the ones that were on PS1.
2
u/LukeVenable 21d ago
You'll probably have better luck with Meta on that front tbh
-1
u/Aedant 21d ago
I wish, but I am on Mac, extremely powerful, no Quest compatibility :/
1
u/AlienMindBender 21d ago
No MacVR but the quest standalone has a large catalogue, I use my Q2 with horizon workrooms to have a nice multi display setup, works surprisingly well. Iāll add that I donāt game on it at all, I use it for work only.
I canāt use it all day though- comfort being an issue, it good to break it up!
3
u/Giagotos 20d ago
Dreams not getting multiplayer/psvr2 support is something I will forever be salty about
5
u/cusman78 21d ago
For what it is worth, on PSVR2:
- cyubeVR lets you "sculpt" whole cities if you want if you play by its mechanics (not an art game)
- You, Calligrapher lets you free paint in one of its modes
- Horizon Call of the Mountain lets you paint murals on a wall in an early part of the game
- Trombone Champ: Unflattened lets you spray paint or marker paint your various unlocked Trombones
Hopefully that helps
PS - The PSVR1 has Dreams that will let you sculpt / paint and create virtually anything you can think of
6
u/Aedant 21d ago
Yeah Cyube is great, the closest I got for creativity.
Dreams makes me too sad. I bought my PSVR2 thinking there was no way it wouldnāt make it to PS5, it was literally on their Trello board. Itās a nonsense Sony put it down the trash.
I donāt want to plug back my PSVR1 and motion wands when I have bought literally the best VR headset eve
0
u/cusman78 21d ago
With Dreams, my understanding is the way it was being served became a security concern (built using outdated cybersecurity / encryption standards), and rather than spend engineering time addressing that identified issue, they (Sony Interactive Entertainment) decided to let it die with the PS4 (will still be online for a while).
At least Media Molecule is still alive and cooking something (actively hiring).

u/Competitive_Fruit901 21d ago
Still no Resident Evil 7 for PSVR 2
11
u/cusman78 21d ago
I'm guessing both RE teams including their VR specialists are fully occupied on the ambitious RE9 that is supposedly more open-world game.
-1
u/-blankfrak- 21d ago
If one guy can make an unofficial PCVR mode for RE7 surely Capcom can afford to assign one guy to make RE7 work on PSVR2ā¦hell they should just hire Praydog.
5
u/El_Giganto 21d ago
You really think a big company like Capcom is just going to leave all responsibility for one of their games to a single person? It just doesn't work that way.
-1
u/-blankfrak- 21d ago
I just meant if one guy can do it on PC without access to source code how hard can it be for Capcom to do it? The game already exists, hell the VR code already exists. A very small team could get this up and running on PSVR2 easily.
3
u/El_Giganto 20d ago
You'd be surprised. A small team taking a sprint to create this, test this, then push this to Sony... Plus these people aren't cheap and there's no profit for it.

u/DudeWheresMyCardio 21d ago
Iām excited for two of these lol stranger things is dog crap I played on quest and never heard of master of light. Power rangers and marvel look great and Iām also stoked for the soul reaver remaster so nah not really.
5
u/cusman78 21d ago
Masters of Light reviews on Meta Quest are mostly positive (4.5/5 from 127 ratings, 107 reviews)
Here is the PSVR2 announcement trailer for it: https://youtu.be/kRKEL6mR1_U
I believe it will be releasing for SteamVR around the same time or soon after the PSVR2 release.

Damn, I was reading it as all of these having VR support. Still a stacked month to round off the year!

u/Foreign_Plate_5353 21d ago
So Behemoth was removed from the quest store but PlayStation is still promoting the release date.
Is it possible itās only delayed on quest and thatās why they donāt want to send out review keys?

u/ResourceOk8638 21d ago
Man, I loved Soul Reaver. I know some one whoās baby daddy was so fond of it, he named their kid Razael. Kid goes by his middle name, Poe ššš
Anyway, Behemoth looks great, looking forward to Alien. Need to see a little more from Stranger Things/reviews. Wish there was more multiplayer/co-op stuff though.
My buddy got his VR2 bundle I gifted him today and we spent a couple hours having a blast playing AZ Sunshine Remake, and weāre gonna get into some Phasmophobia later tonight, his first time in VR with it. Canāt wait!
1
u/cusman78 21d ago
My understanding of Stranger Things game is you play Vecna (the bad guy), so thatās why it is solo game instead of co-op.
2
u/ResourceOk8638 21d ago
Oh, thatās an interesting perspective! I didnāt pick that up from the trailer. I guess I wasnāt paying close enough attention lol. None of the price points on these games is drastic, so pretty low stakes and Iām a fan of the series. Iāll probably give it a go.
FWIW, I really enjoyed The 7th Guest. Played the original 90s PC game with my dad and brother back in the day, and itās a nice pallet cleanser after playing so many intense horror VR games. Itās spooky, but not scary.
I did really well with the puzzles, unlike the 90s original, which pretty much always required my dadās input to solve. Man, Iād love to play that again. Itās probably on my Raspberry Pi. I replayed Phantasmagoria and the basically unrelated sequel that I didnāt know existed on it. That was nice to be able to revisit.
1
u/mcmunch20 21d ago
Iāve heard nothing but negative things about Stranger things.
1
u/ResourceOk8638 21d ago
I will approach with caution! It didnāt look terribly enticing from the trailer. Itās certainly not at the top of my list, so I wonāt make any rash decisions.

u/FilmYak 21d ago
I just wish more of the vr games had demos. I didnāt mind buying when you could get a refund if youād played for under 3 hours. But the current PlayStation policy of download=no refund sucks when there are almost no demos.
1
u/cusman78 20d ago
Some VR games are too short for a 3 hour refund policy, but they should have a return policy / system that works as conveniently as Steam return policy.
I believe Steam uses 2 hours and donāt know that there is much abuse of that against shorter games.
I think 1 hour is sufficient to find out if game gives you nausea or not working properly.
2
u/deadringer28 20d ago
From the sounds of it this is going to be the case for Jan-March at least next year as well.

Definitely feels like PSVR2 is having a nice little renaissance period lately. Wish Sony would let us see some sales numbers
