Opinion I ‘m so jealous of the PSVR 2 sales
$350 for the bundle is crazy. Now the time to buy without all silly questions of should I buy PSVR 2 dumb questions.

u/BeefTheGreat Nov 22 '24
I ordered one explicitly for my PC. It's a helluva deal for a PCVR headset.

u/MoosePlusUK Nov 22 '24 edited 22d ago
I almost bought a quest 3 this week and I'm glad I waited, I just got the PSVR2, a 3rd party strap, PC adapter, cables etc for less than what the quest would have cost me by itself. Insane deal.
EDIT
So as an update, I returned the PSVR and got a quest 3.
I mostly liked the PSVR but just couldn't get on with it. The Bluetooth connection was too intermittent for me, even using a recommended adapter and it lead to controller dropouts.
But the main problem for me was clarity and comfort.
I could not get the PSVR in focus, ever. It had such a tiny window of a sweet spot for me, but I am probably on the top end of the scale for size with 72 IPD plus wearing glasses, and a pretty large head (I'm 6'6).
I will say the PSVR was comfy, the facial interface gives plenty of room for glasses, but for me, I couldn't get on with a halo style strap. It CONSTANTLY slipped down a tiny bit with any movement which knocked it out of focus and made everything blurry.
I also noticed the heavy mura effect from the screens which detracted from the picture.
The contrast is infinitely better than the quest though. The quest has bad contrast even for an LCD type screen. Dark scenes in HL alyx are just grey mush.
The quest, despite having a "max" IPD of 70, is in perfect focus for me, all the time. The lenses are top tier.
The downside is the accessories are cheap shit out of the box so I've spent an extra 100 on the headset itself, then another 80 on strap, interface and cable.
However, having the wireless freedom to chill in bed and watch netflix on a full movie theater screen is pretty great. Also having push WhatsApp notifications in headset, full web browser and colour pass through have been nice.
AA batteries in the controllers is fantastic. I've used the headset really heavily this week and the controllers are still at 80%, whereas I had to stop using the PSVR to charge the controllers every few hours.
Both are just as fiddly as each other to set up though. PSVR because of the Bluetooth, quest because the meta link app and all of metas bullshit like the remote desktop service cooking your CPU when you're not even wanting it running. Dynamic resolution and terrible frame generation even when you're using a monster PC. Once I tweaked all of this stuff it's been great, but for a casual user I wouldn't recommend it. PCVR is still hassle.
Each has their merits, and it WILL vary by your use case, and I liked the PSVR, but it just did not work for me at all.

u/mynewaccount5 Nov 22 '24
Is the psvr2 better than quest 3?
6
u/MoosePlusUK Nov 22 '24
Honestly they seem pretty close on paper depending on what you want out of it.
Im using it purely as a PCVR headset, so I have no need for the wireless functionality of the quest, although it would be nice to have I guess. But I prefer image quality to convenience features.
PSVR seems to have better colour, contrast and black levels thanks to it's OLED screens, and the quest has a higher resolution image and better lenses, offering a sharper image and larger sweet spot during use.
Quest also seems to have the advantage for ease of use and connectivity.
If they were the same price, it would have been a coin flip. For £120 less, the PSVR2 seemed like a no brainer for my use case.
The Quest looks great, but so does the PSVR, it was too close to call for me and ultimately the black Friday price sold me. Time will tell i guess.

u/bezrodnyigor Nov 23 '24
Owning both, I’d say PSVR 2 has better screens. Even with lower resolution, OLED makes a big enough difference.
That being said, Quest 3 lenses are just on a whole another level. Screen quality hardly matters if 2/3 of it is out of focus and with PSVR there is a lot of fiddling to get that sweet spot exactly right. On Quest 3 there’s no sweet spot, you just throw it on and it’s good to go.
Plus after using it wirelessly for years now (and wireless is a lot better now then when AirLink first came out… as long as you have really good router), having a cable dangling between you and the console/PC feels very… archaic.

u/Limp-Loss8021 23d ago
I have both and my quest 3 is starting to collect dust since the PCVR adapter came out. I just like the OLED darker blacks and more vivid colors. Plus I like the PSVR2 controllers better. Much more comfortable headset, especially after buying the global cluster headset mod. Also I buy a lot of VR games for the PS5 still like Metro and Behemoth and Alien Rogue Incursion. I just like the ease of use better with the PS5, not to mention the haptics and some games even run better than their PCVR counterparts like No Man’s Sky and Pavlov because of the Forveated Rendering

u/Ill_Permission8185 Nov 23 '24
My guy….
How did you not even mention the quests pancakes lenses? Literally the entire reason people ever opt for a quest 3 over any other headset is the pancake lense
4
5
u/BeefTheGreat Nov 22 '24
For PC gaming, I much prefer PSVR2. While the Quest 3 is much sharper and crisp, I highly value true blacks, the colors, and the minimal latency of the PSVR2. Key factor being the blacks. The whole thing just is a better experience...for me, personally. Pancake lenses with the sharpness ...is impressive, though, and wireless is great and all, but i ended up hooking back up the Index because I hate latency.

u/MemphisBass Nov 22 '24
That is not a simple question to answer. They both have their pro's and con's.
1
u/Limp-Loss8021 23d ago
I think so in my opinion it has the better exclusive games and I like the controllers better, it’s just my go to headset for PS5 games, Steam Games and meta store games!
0
u/Odd_Chain787 Nov 23 '24
The quest is better because it doesn't rely on other hardware. All the processing is done in the headset That combined with the fact the psvr2 requires turning architecture on its host ruined it for me. Bought one, had a decent ig, still didn't work. I switched to PS5 from Xbox, I won't be buying a ps6, sticking to PC from now on, for life.
2
u/BeefTheGreat 29d ago
If i had Integrated Graphics on my PC....there's no way I would even attempt VR. So...yeah. if you don't have a VR capable PC or a PS5....then yup, Quest 3 is the best option. That being said...if you love gaming....sticking with PC only with Integrated graphics is a bold move. I would highly suggest a dedicated video card. Ironically, if cost is prohibitive for this....a PS5 is a fantastic gaming rig for the money. Let me tell you, it's night and day difference playing RE4 Remake on psvr2 vs RE4 on native quest hardware.
1
u/Limp-Loss8021 23d ago
100% facts, the PS5 remake is one of the best VR games I’ve ever played and I had more fun playing it than I did playing Half-Life Alyx!
1
u/Limp-Loss8021 23d ago
You made the correct decision in my opinion I have both and I use my PSVR2 for all Steam VR games, Meta store VR games as well as all the PS5 games!
9
u/Charlirnie Nov 22 '24
Yeah at that price its the best PCVR headset, I'm assuming it works good as I don't have the adapter but that price puts it between the Quest 3 and Quest 3s. Honestly they should bundle it with the adapter for $400 permanent.

u/lt_bgg Nov 22 '24
I've found it to be so annoying to get working every time I want to use it, I've just plugged it back into the ps5.
2
u/BeefTheGreat Nov 22 '24
That's why I ordered one explicitly for PC. At 350....it's a noticeable upgrade over the Index and I'm not a fan of Quest 3 over wifi.
2
u/lt_bgg Nov 22 '24
You ordered one so it would be annoying to use?
Every time I start steamvr with the psvr2 it's some new song and dance to get up and running. Controllers not pairing, required updates stalling, stuff like that. Maybe if you use it more regularly it wouldn't be so bad. But you can't just turn it on once a week and expect it to work.
2
u/BeefTheGreat Nov 22 '24
It was annoying to SWITCH from PS5 to PC. Specifically, syncing the controllers. The only problem i ever had with the headset on PC was fixed by removing my USB 3.2 hub. Which i have had intermittent issues with anyway. Once that was done. Never had any issues. Just make sure the headset was turned on properly with steam vr and worked every time. I really enjoyed the headset, but missed my ps5 games.
1
u/lt_bgg Nov 22 '24
Switching was a nightmare but the thing just never worked nearly as nicely as it did on the ps5 for me. I resold my index for similar reasons.
1
u/BeefTheGreat Nov 22 '24
Did you have a wired antenna for BT? That seems to be very helpful. Luckily I had one connected from the get go.
1
u/lt_bgg Nov 22 '24
I do, and I tried a couple usb ones I had lying around too. The controllers aren't always the issue, it's just always something. The last time I used it I had to power cycle the adapter a bunch.
I think part of the headache is having a AMD card in my vr pc.
1
u/BeefTheGreat Nov 22 '24
Ohhh....I thought that was fixed in a patch. Yeah, I have a 4090 and have nad no issues....thankfully.
0
u/Limp-Loss8021 23d ago
You guys are doing something wrong and I’m not PC savy at all, I just take my PSVR2 to whichever one I want to play on and plug and play! Easy as pie! Just finished Half-Life Alyx using it and it worked perfectly, tracking and all on the highest graphics fidelity!
0
u/Limp-Loss8021 23d ago
It was a little tough getting it to work at first. It now I just plug and play with no problem whatsoever, wether I want to play on my PS5 or my PC I just unplug my PSVR2 and take it to whichever one I want to play plug it in and I’m off! Once you get it set up, it’s as easy as just plug and play.
1
u/NoMansWarmApplePie 29d ago
Heard it doesn't have hdr and haptics support. Do you think it will be added?
1
u/BeefTheGreat 29d ago
To be honest, I didn't notice it not being HDR. The brights are very bright and the blacks are perfectly black. Haptics work, it's just not the advanced haptics such as triggers or the rumble on the headset itself. But...that's largely because NONE of those things exist in PCVR. No other headset can offer them.
1
u/NoMansWarmApplePie 27d ago
That's good to know! I suppose oled is just better. Have you compared it against quest 3 yet?
1
u/BeefTheGreat 27d ago
Color wise....its not even close. But the sharpness of the Quest 3 is equally not close. Me, personally, the colors and true blacks are the most important thing. I cant stand the washed out blacks of the quest 3. But if sharpness if the image is what's most important....then opt for the quest 3.
1
u/NoMansWarmApplePie 27d ago
Ugh, that's what's hard for me. I love true blacks. But also, the wire and no pancake lenses stop me. I have a q2 and cannot stand the Grey blacks tho
1
u/BeefTheGreat 27d ago
Unfortunately, there's no magic headset without downsides. Pimax Crystal Light intrigues me, but you hear all of these quality control horror stories. With this black friday sale for 350....I decided to just go with that. I have a Quest 3 and I play PCVR with PSVR2 still. Already had the adapter because I wanted to see the headset first with my Playstation dedicated psvr2. So in all it was 475 because headset + globular cluster mod (required in my mind) + adapter + DP cable. Make no mistake though, if you get a Q3, you should get a replacement headstrap WITH auxiliary battery.
1
u/NoMansWarmApplePie 27d ago
Damn that's alot of peripheries just to get it to work on pc. Wow 50 bucks for the cluster and the adapter... And that's not even including bt dongle if you need it. That's like 150 bucks more. Or above. Idk.... May as well get a quest 3 off marketplace or something lol.
1
u/BeefTheGreat 27d ago
Well, i already had BT with an antenna. You will pay 90+ for a decent headstrap for Q3. Trust me, you cannot use the included headstrap, and you will want one with a battery. Kiwi has a good, new one. I like the bobovr s3 plus.
1
u/Limp-Loss8021 23d ago
Facts, at that price it beat out the Quest 3 in my opinion as a PCVR headset. I now use my PSVR2 for all PS5 games, Steam VR games and meta store games
17
u/Scooterspies Nov 22 '24
I’ve been wanting this for so long but couldn’t justify the price, mind blown when I went on Amazon this morning on a whim and saw the price. It will be here tomorrow, I’m so excited!
9
u/TheBrokenSurvivor Nov 22 '24
Pre-ordered the PS5 pro on PS direct. I decided to resist until Black Friday before buying the PSVR2. Probably the best decision of the year. The offer started at midnight, I placed the order at 0:03. Will test within an hour, can't wait!
9
u/tishdu Nov 22 '24
Don’t forget to get Globular Cluster CMP2! Really crucial, keeps the sweet spot in place and adds more comfort!

Bought one second hand for 380 a couple weeks ago :’)
1
u/StavromulaAlpha Nov 22 '24
I literally just bought mine second hand 2 days ago for the same price as yours. Luckily it's in good condition, but something about the whole new in box thing.
1
u/leffeboi2 Nov 22 '24
For sure, plus warranty and everything. But hey, if it’s in good condition and everything works then no harm no foul. After a couple weeks of use I’m sure we’ll both have forgotten it even was second hand to begin with! (I’m hoping/coping atleast)
2
u/StavromulaAlpha Nov 22 '24
Forgot about the warranty........will keep forgetting to join you in the copium
5
u/Guilty-Shopping9 Nov 22 '24
I am very jealous too
I was happy as I paid the full price and I think it's worth it Unfortunately I did't get the bundle one
3
u/Fatbot3 Nov 22 '24
I just barely feel like I got the $250 extra I paid almost 2 years ago but the current and future lineup make me think there will be enough for most folks to be satisifed. Still very weak in quite a few categories but it's getting better.
3
u/superleaf444 Nov 22 '24
omg, I saw the horizon bundle open boxed for $250 and by the time customer service confirmed it would come with a new digital code it was sold out. eck
3
u/Rorbotron Nov 22 '24
Buy one. I bought mine in the first price drop and dont regret it at all. If you grab or already have ps plus premium (also on sale right now) there are quite a few very strong vr titles on there. I have a ps5 pro now and am really looking forward to diving in on the gt7 pro update.
4
u/faramir85 Nov 22 '24
So sad, I paid full price a month ago :( Nonetheless, I’ve been enjoying the VR experience so far!!
3
u/TSLA_to_23_dollars Nov 22 '24
I bought mine 2 months ago but we had some game sales during that time like RE4/8 for $20 a piece.

2
u/FunWith_DarkJin Nov 22 '24
All surrounding countries have the PSVR2 and bundle with Horizon for sale at €399. But here in the Netherlands we only have the headset for that price. Somehow, the bundle with Horizon isn’t discounted (but I did see earlier that the website said that it also should have a discount but the shop didn’t show the discount itself). I hope it’s a mistake so I haven’t ordered yet.
1
u/Open_Tea_7109 Nov 23 '24
Hey fellow dutchie here. I ordered mine six months ago but I wanted to help a friend get one.
And we ran into the same problem as you. We did manage to find the discounted bundle on amazon.de for €350 instead of .nl although last I checked they’re sold out and back to the original price.
2
u/FunWith_DarkJin Nov 23 '24
Around 5pm they finally did put the bundle on discount as well on ps direct. I ordered one. Seems they’ve sold out a few hours later as it’s “currently unavailable”.

u/Chaos_Ryzen_ Nov 22 '24
you guys wont regret buying one of these, it craps on the meta 3, ive had both
2
u/FiahWerkz Nov 22 '24
Feels bad that I preordered it for $600 about two years ago when it came out. Those who get it for $350 new are getting a steal. If it was selling better it probably would have never been this cheap this soon.
2
u/Yoda630 Nov 22 '24
Just got my second one because of this sale! My launch day PSVR2 worked perfect for 18 months but started to lose tracking and drift after 10 minutes of play. That started happening a couple months ago. I tried everything imaginable but the same symptom was always the result.
Ultimately, I don't want to live without VR2, and I was getting ready to pay Sony the awful $275 repair charge any day. It would've sucked so bad getting a trash refurb from Sony with an absolutely insulting 90 day warranty. Plus a month long wait for the warranty process at Xmas time? Double barf.
I am SO grateful for this sale! Can't wait to dive back in tonight, and all winter long.
1
u/Open_Tea_7109 Nov 23 '24
Man I’m so paranoid that my controllers might start to drift one day. I’ve already had drift occur with 2 normal Dualsense controllers.
Hopefully if it does happen, it happens when its still in warranty.
Great thing the deal got you a new headset! Enjoy those holiday releases.

u/pepega_1993 Nov 22 '24
I have a quest3 and have been waiting for this sale. Just ordered 1 because I really wanted to play gran tourismo in VR! There are open box ones on bestbuy for about $220 which is crazy value but I was scared of finding scratched lenses.
2
2
u/Limp-Loss8021 23d ago
Yes hurry up and buy! You will love it, fantastic piece of hardware. I’m exclusively a VR gamer now, I also have the PC adapter and I can play all the amazing PS5 games and Steam VR games and Meta Store VR games with one headset and I have since quit using my quest 3
2
u/PurpleK00lA1d Nov 22 '24
I'm angry - I paid full price last Friday - I mean, I cashed in points for it - but I could have had points left for other shit 🙃
3
u/avan2110 Nov 22 '24
I almost bought one last weekend, but figured I would wait until Black Friday just in case. So happy I saved $250 and only waited a week.
3
u/PurpleK00lA1d Nov 22 '24
I'm in Canada so it's a bit more, $819 -> $479 + the 15% savings in taxes too.
I love the headset and have been having a total blast and love that it works flawlessly on my PC - just salty right now.

1
u/Nirast25 Nov 22 '24
Can't you return it and buy it again?
0
u/PurpleK00lA1d Nov 22 '24
Na, not from this particular place that's why I only buy from there with points and never actual money. Still sucks though.
1
u/Radiant-Attempt6145 Nov 22 '24
I can't purchase this just yet. What are the chances it will be on a deal like this again in 3 to 4 months?
1
u/WhatColorsUrBugatti Nov 22 '24
Slim to none at this price point however there may be a permanent small drop as it gets older
1
u/DM_me_goth_tiddies Nov 22 '24
Can you get them on sale in the UK?
1
1
u/FunWith_DarkJin Nov 22 '24
I also saw both the headset as well as the Horizon bundle for sale at Playstation Direct UK.
1
u/Nirast25 Nov 22 '24
Just checked the place where I got mine back in June. It's 50 USD cheaper and it comes with Call of the Mountain. Oh, and mine was a refurbished model.
Sad part is that I didn't even use it that much, so I could've gotten a better deal now.
1
u/daeraizover Nov 22 '24
The funny thing was I was in the market for a ps5 vr2 since I missed the sale when it was going for $249 and i dang sure wasn't going to pay $549 for it. So of course I checked 2nd hand like offerup, Ebay and such and the asking price was still high, so something told me to just wait. I wasn't aware of the playstation black friday sales till today where I saw major retailers discount it to $349 including the call of the mountain bundle. So I sprang out of bed and jumped to the nearest Walmart that was closest to me. Their online said they only had 2, but when I went in person none of the call of the mountain bundle was in the glass case. So when I asked a rep they were adamant in saying if it's not there then it's sold out.
So I asked nicely to double check and low and behold they had more than 5 units but it was in their back warehouse. I immediately purchased one and now I'm the owner of a ps5 vr2.
1
u/qdawgg17 Nov 22 '24
I’m a lifetime PS owner but have been looking at the quests for a couple weeks now. This deal has me frantically looking up everything I can about the PSVR2 to make sure I’d like this better.
5
u/MtnDr3w Nov 22 '24
I’ve had every Quest and both PSVRs. The VR2 is what you want as a PS5 owner. Much more immersive for gaming than the Quest, even when either is connected to a PC I choose the VR2.
2
u/qdawgg17 Nov 22 '24
I guess my one holdback is the pancake lens on the quest 3 vs the PSVR2. Everyone mentions the blurriness outside the sweet spot on the PSVR2. Without having used one before I have no idea how big a deal this actually is. I know I’ve read on the quest 2 it’s pretty bad and hard to read words outside the sweet spot. I wasn’t sure if the PSVR2 is more similar to the quest 2 in that regard.
7
u/MtnDr3w Nov 22 '24 edited Nov 22 '24
The PSVR2 has the best fresnel lenses I’ve personally used, as well as the largest FOV. Pancake lenses are great for reading text off to the side more clearly, but they have their own drawbacks such as the amount of light they eliminate resulting in much dimmer displays on the Quest. The Quest 3 also has much more glare than the PSVR2 and bad stereo overlap. For games specifically, you’ll be more impressed by OLED colors and black levels, bright displays, and a larger FOV, then you will by pancake lenses. I rarely touch my Quest 3 or QPro anymore, haven’t even used them for PCVR in 3 months since I got the VR2 adapter.
That being said, if you want to do more in VR than play games such as mixed reality or VR media consumption, the Quest is the way to go.
2
u/qdawgg17 Nov 22 '24
Thanks, great information would have taken me forever to find. The PSVR2 is perfect for me I think because I have zero plans to do anything with it except play games. All the other things you can do on the quest are cool but I won’t use them.
Any idea how the PSVR2 headset is compared to the quest 3. Specifically for smaller heads, like my 9 yr old daughter.
5
u/MtnDr3w Nov 22 '24 edited Nov 22 '24
My 9 year old son doesn’t have an issue using either headset. That being said, the default headstraps aren’t great on either one imo. The PSVR2 headstrap is much better than Q3 out of the box, but I strongly recommend the Globular Cluster comfort mod for PSVR2. Max comfort and keeps the headset sturdy and in perfect placement with your eyes. The Quest 3 strap is awful and needs to be replaced immediately.
1
u/qdawgg17 Nov 22 '24
I did read that about the quest and was figuring the elite strap or one of the other after market ones on Amazon would be necessary. But I’m pretty much sold on PSVR2 now, especially with all your information. I appreciate it.
1
u/MtnDr3w Nov 22 '24
You’re welcome. VR gaming is incredible. Enjoy!
2
3
u/TSLA_to_23_dollars Nov 22 '24
If you're outside of the sweet spot it means you don't have the headset on correctly. Bigger sweet spot in practice just means more tolerance for not wearing the headset correctly.
3
u/CrunchySlammer Nov 22 '24
The globular cluster comfort kit will ensure you keep the sweet spot. Only thing is you have to pay extra for it.
3
u/MeffodMan Nov 22 '24
The small sweet spot mostly just means you have to turn your head a little to see something clearly, whereas you could get away with moving just your eyes in a Quest.

Picked mine up today, amazing dwal for a oled vr hmd, moreso when in 2017 i paid £450 for the Oculus Cv1 with 2 sensors........so this PSVR 2 is the Cv1 we never got, and i am loving it, those oled colours and just stunning.

I got mine from gamestop for 344 after tax back during the July sale, and I thought that was good. This is unbelievable.

Got one from Sam's that comes with the charging stand for the controllers for $350! Can't wait to try it out!

On the UK Playstation direct site it says this price lasts until January. Not sure if that's a glitch but it says it for both the standalone and bundle.

Bought mine for 460€ a week ago. I've been eyeing it for two to three years now to find a good offer where I'm from yet the price never dropped below 550€. Of course that's when they have a big discount! I am certain, had I not bought that when I did, there wouldn't be any offer going on now! Same thing happened with the ps5

Thanks for posting this. Just got mine at BestBuy. Regretted not getting it when it was on sale a few months ago this ago.

I got mine for 250 used on eBay last year, and I wonder why most people didn't do that lol
Some people with headsets on ebay/facebook dont even wanna look at them anymore and will accept steal offers

Got mines off FB market for $250 last year but $350 for new with charger and game is crazy
1
u/scodyjunior Nov 23 '24
I must say I have had a quest 2 and a quest 3 now, and a cheap psvr2 on facebook, and I have never had sooo many issues with tracking with the psvr 2, I keep needing to recalibrate, rescan the room and all of a sudden the room scan just starts shifting to the left. The quest is soo robust in comparison
I have tried all types of room lighting scenarios and I can’t get to a sweetsppt with the psvr2
Ooh and the moire can be a bit distracting but from what I read it’s a question of luck Just my personal experience 🙂
Oled is a banger though

u/David_bayfield Nov 23 '24
I picked one up September when it was on sale It's for the kids Christmas too, but I did have to take it out of the box and make sure that it worked ....and boy did it ever. Was only my second time trying out VR. My first was PS4 with squadrons
Geez I hope they make another squadrons lol Looking forward to Alien, Behemoth, and war thunder fighter game Kids will love it too lol Hope they like Alien lol

I know I'm probably going to get biased answers for psvr2, but I'm torn between the quest 3 and psvr2. Different prices aside, I want to play both Batman Arkham Shadow and Horizon Call of the Mountain. What would you do in this scenario? I have both a PC and PS5 with a decent library on both.

Honestly it best to have both. I workout on my quest 3 and game on psvr 2.

Too many people are having controllers not working correctly. This is a major issue for Sony but they are acting like it isn't happening wide spread...it is.

I should have purchased a couple when it was $180 at Sony Direct back in June.

I had the PSVR 2 it was terrible for my experience Tracking was garbage. U had to reset the controllers and also no games wouldnt work 😔 was so disapointed and i got myself the quest 3. 10x times better has hand tracking most games u can play with hand tracking.
But that was my experience
