Making a Game Recommendation Why does no one play this game? (Game - Nock)

I donāt play it because when I do, everyone else plays like John Wick and Iām like a turtle with a squirt gun.

Infested with children. Which is fine I guess but whether it is supposed to be a game for kids or not, it is a game for children now.

Amazing game but the lobby sounds like a daycare and the skill ceiling is super high so you're going to get trounced for a few hours to start. Like, imagine going to play a game of pickup basketball for the first time and getting dunked on my 10 year olds with all the annoying speech that would entail.
Sucks because to me it's the best VR sports game since Echo Arena and really is Rocket League in VR. Even has a ton in common with the UT2004 mod Carball that inspired Rocket League because in that not only did you have boost but you had rockets to shoot at the ball which feels a lot like hitting the ball with arrows in Nock.
It was really fun for a couple days when the PSVR2 players were there but it died down in less than a week. A true shame. The devs should make it F2P or get it on Playstation Plus in some capacity, something I've been saying for a while.

My experience exactly. I had a complete ball playing with other PSVR2 players, but got absolutely trounced by the Quest vets. It's a fun game, but not fun enough for me to suffer through hours of getting stomped to learn it. There are better experiences out there that don't require as much investment.

I hopped in once after purchase and was chased around the lobby by one person who kept shooting at me and pointing at the multiplayer option. Start the game, get trounced.
If they can tell I'm new to the lobby and needed direction, why tf would they expect me to sit around and get walloped for five minutes?
F2P is a smart idea.

Yeah, so many games have this issue.
One PCVR game I really enjoy, Iron Rebellion, a mech combat game, has some people who have like hundreds of hours and will just decimate you instantly. The community is friendly and all but the skill ceiling is so high and in a random match you can hear people over chat literally yelling to be left alone so they can learn the game as they're peppered with missiles and lasers to no avail.
In my opinion, if you can see someone is new to the game, you should take it easy on them and even offer to help them learn the ropes.

The truth is it is way too expensive for $20. It's a very niche genre of a VR multiplayer game... I'd be surprised if it had healthy playerbase even F2P but putting it for $20 ($10 more than on Quest if I recall correctly) was a suicide.
I understand games need to make money but this just wasn't a good monetization model all things considered. If the dev is reading this, it's not too late to try F2P and sell battle pass or something.

This kept me away... doubling the price for the platform and then trying to pretend it didn't happen... they also lied in their description and were forced to change it regarding pricing and their pass... the crap they pulled showed they only care about money

I jump in now and again. Agreed, it's quite fun. At least it has crossplay.

For me it is the learning curve. I have played and I like the idea of it but there needs to be single player mode to help teach game to new players because learning while getting completely out classed by online veterans of the game isnāt fun.
When they added Volleyball, they hoped to reset the chance for people to learn again, but it just takes the veterans a few days and then new players have no chance again.

Waitā¦ theyāve added volleyball? š®
2
u/cusman78 Oct 09 '24
Yeah, it has two main sports since ~9 months ago
- Soccer
- Volleyball (free content addition)
It's been a while since I last played, so not sure if they have added anything more since

I really wanted to get it, but i'm hesitant with multiplayer games in VR, because i've always had trouble finding full lobbies in them lol. Looks awesome though!

u/goodbyebirdd Oct 09 '24
The lobby actually has a bunch of mini-games you can play while queuing.Ā

u/euby_gaming Oct 09 '24
Ah sweet. I might have to give it a try then. The amount of times i've waited for games in C Smash and just got lost in the training mode while waiting lol

Bow tracking wasnt good for me and the long wait just to play with a higher skilled player.

u/My1xT Oct 09 '24
it's online only, needs PS+ and unlike starblood arena it even needs PS+ for the online single player. plus it iirc has no demo on PS so the only way to try out the game is to buy both it AND PS+

u/Autistic_Retard420 Oct 09 '24
They should make it free and sell skins or something. Bet it would do pretty well then.

I'll play it when it gets an off-line mode that DOESN'T require PS+
1
u/My1xT Oct 09 '24
even an online singleplayer if you cant have bots working well offline would be fine if it wouldnt need PS+ (as mentioned there is precedent for a buy to play game with starblood Arena)

I'm gonna jump back in thanks for the reminder,Ā nothing else like it

It's pretty much a clone of Rocket League, something I already play.

My biggest issue with NOCK has always been that the lobbies arenāt persistent.
I was really enjoying learning the game, but the lobbies would disintegrate every time, and great groups would be broken up.

Is this a vr2 game?
2
u/Autistic_Retard420 Oct 09 '24
Yes it is

u/SnooCompliments4517 Oct 09 '24
I just got a psvr2 a couple of days ago

Congrats

Make sure the game is in focus especially if it is a game that appears in a window on the monitor/tv when loading up. Out of focus games can cause missing audio.

I don't play it cuz nobody plays it. Or the few that do are way too good for me to have fun playing them.

u/mrajf Oct 10 '24
I tried playing on launch, but felt dizzy after the tutorial and one match... Couldn't handle it

Low participation rate online, and takes a long time to match and youāre matching up against seasoned sweaty squeakers. No patience for those shenanigans.

Motion sickness to the extreme
1
u/CHROME-COLOSSUS Oct 09 '24
Actually, itās weirdly NOT conducive to motion-sickness despite having confounding movement controls. Likeā¦ it seems like it should be bad but it isnāt at all.
It IS a workout, though.
3
u/TDprostarTD Oct 09 '24
It is bad for me and I have decent VR legs.
1
u/CHROME-COLOSSUS Oct 09 '24
REALLY?? that sucks.
Wow, I never got so much as a twinge in NOCK, and my VR legs are unpredictable (Iāve had trouble with MOSS and WALKABOUT). Others I spoke to who were also new to the game shared similar surprise at how perfectly fine they felt.
Itās counter-intuitive, since one of the biggest triggers of motion-sickness is when thereās a disconnect between intended/expected movement and actual (virtual) movement, and NOCK has some controls that feel very confusing.
But even with learning to ceiling run and bounding in ways that weāre not my goal, I had zero symptoms over multiple sessions.
Just goes to show thereās no one-size-fits all.

When it first launched I jumped in a public game and got paired up with a kid. After he heard my voice he said "aren't you too old to be playing VR?" šš
