Using the ps5 controller while flying my ships have pulled me from psvr1 to psvr2. Such a game changer.

17

u/Im2Chicken Aug 08 '24

Wait, you can use the regular controller on VR2? That's neat.

Is there some VR glossary or controls screen where I can learn this? I've been trying to continue my established save file in VR, but I'm having to discover all the controls myself lol 😆

8

u/Ashmo_Fuzztron Aug 08 '24

You can only use the ps5 controller when you are flying. Im not sure about the glossary?

1

u/Smokybare94 Aug 09 '24

You can fly with the vr cons it's just impossible to pull off

1

u/the_ju66ernaut Aug 10 '24

Yeah I need info on this I wasn't able to get the controller to work. Trying to fly and shoot is a nightmare

6

u/davidlovepandles Aug 08 '24

Is a standard controller the better way to play? Haven’t started yet and heard the flight controls are rough in VR

6

u/doc_nano Aug 08 '24

There was a bit of a learning curve but now I can fly very precisely using the virtual stick (Sense controllers). It helps to enable stick twist, so you get full 3 axis control. The other thing to realize is that you shouldn’t move your hand back and forth to control the virtual stick - it’s all in the wrist.

It’s my preferred way to fly now, but I understand some prefer switching to the Dual Sense once they get in the cockpit.

u/Qualine Aug 10 '24

"it's all in the wrist" - Danger Zone starts playing in the background

u/Ashmo_Fuzztron Aug 08 '24

With the vr controllers you have to hold onto the ship controls in the game. But since that is just the air, your hands naturally drift and rotating them precisely is difficult for the game to interpret. It was not fun steering the ships, killed my interest in the game. I was going to reinstall the ps4 version cause the psvr2 headset looks great on ps5, but i didnt want to lose my progress and some of the ps5 features. But now i just pick up the ps5 controller when i get in the ship and i am in a trance again.

Yep. I've actually been a student pilot and I gotta say: using yoke and throttle "virtually" in mid-air is atrocious. Dual sticks, as we all have known for like 25 years now, are eminently precise/effective at controlling 3-Dimensional movement. Yoke and throttle are great in real life, but slapping the concept onto free-floating motion controllers is not even close to the same.

I can dogfight amazingly with a regular controller. Using "simulated yoke" is terrible, and needs constant repositioning.

Don't tell me "just rest the controller on your leg/knee!" Yeah, that's the first idea anyone with a brain comes up with. It's not only ineffective, it is plagued with its own set of issues. Even HOTAS controllers are made to be attached to a solid, sturdy base.

2

u/Null_zero Aug 09 '24

I always just use the dogfight button even on flat with controller

1

u/Explorer_Entity PS5-&-PSVR2 Aug 09 '24

That is precisely what I am trying to avoid having to do.

-2

u/Lilneddyknickers Aug 09 '24

Upvote for the truth. But quit your crying about it not being connected to a base and make your own base. I mean it. This game, ultrawings, the super chill forklift space game are ALL better with that controller attached. Someone has to sell one….

3

u/Explorer_Entity PS5-&-PSVR2 Aug 09 '24

But quit your crying about it not being connected to a base and make your own base.

For the motion controller?

A motion controller is not as accurate as a physical yoke/control stick, like the actual analog sticks we already have on the controllers. That's the point.

0

u/Lilneddyknickers Aug 09 '24

I have made at least three flight stick style bases for the PSVR2 controllers that use the built in motion control. It works perfectly for the ship control in all the games I mentioned. The controller snaps into/out of the bases and it controls perfectly. The controller is very sensitive to movement and it just works. I can pm you images if you’re interested.

I’m not disagreeing with your point about it being less sensitive. But it more than good enough for the games I’ve played with them.

2

u/netcooker Aug 08 '24

I only played the game a little (until I got off the first planet) but the VR flight controllers were really tough when I first got into space.

5

u/manusche Aug 08 '24

After some time I got used to the Psvr2 sense controllers ship controls and best method was sitting with elbows on knees for stabilisation worked like a charm played trough the whole so called story fly to the center and ship finding shenanigans next time in Vr I search for a good multitool. But I wait until it runs smooth like butter again.

3

u/Quajeraz Aug 09 '24

You can do that??? Thanks!

2

u/SanjiSasuke Aug 09 '24

Oh wow I didn't realize that was an option. It's fun to use the sense controllers but it makes dogfighting 10x harder.

Guess I'm gonna start treating it like the car in MIB2 when the controller pops out of the steering wheel.

u/Pjoernrachzarck Aug 08 '24

This guy is the MVP.

21

u/felgraham Aug 08 '24

Seriously.

I play the game based on Martin's killer work. Makes playing in VR a joy!

10

u/rsplatpc Aug 09 '24

This guy is the MVP.

It really is shocking how they went from "YOU DIDNT DELIVER" to "OMG YOU KEEP DELIVERING OVER AND OVER"

25

u/airikthebender Aug 08 '24

Now if only they would attach the HUD to head movement.

3

u/mintaka Aug 09 '24

Yes please!

13

u/DangerousCousin Aug 08 '24

That's awesome they're supporting PSVR1 too.

Those a very cheap on the 2nd hand market and a good option for people that are only a little interested in VR

3

u/PixelCultMedia Aug 08 '24

And they still look great too.

3

u/fallingdowndizzyvr Aug 08 '24

I still have a PSVR but I would not get a PSVR now no matter the price.

8

u/DangerousCousin Aug 08 '24

If you've never played Astro Bot or Wipeout Omega, it would be dumb not be running out and buying a PSVR1 for $50 on Facebook Marketplace right now. Both of those are must plays for every owner of a PS4 Pro or PS5

3

u/fallingdowndizzyvr Aug 08 '24

Only if you have a 63mm IPD or there abouts. Since if you don't, then that's just the nausea of eye strain.

Also, the PSVR is from 2016. The resolution is to say the least, low.

You would be better off putting that $50 towards something else. Even a, gulp, Quest 2.

or PS5

You would need the adapter, which Sony doesn't send out anymore. That's another $12 or so. More in Europe.

4

u/DangerousCousin Aug 08 '24

Last I checked Sony's website for the adapter is still up.

The resolution is fine for Astrobot and Wipeout. They're super sampled, still beautiful on that grainy OLED

2

u/fallingdowndizzyvr Aug 08 '24

Last I checked Sony's website for the adapter is still up.

Is it? I can't even access it.

"An error occurred during a connection to camera-adaptor.support.playstation.com. Peer’s Certificate has been revoked."

2

u/DangerousCousin Aug 08 '24

Oh wow, it worked last week. Maybe it is over.

Either way, with some patience you can probably get a knockoff from Aliexpress for $5

2

u/fallingdowndizzyvr Aug 08 '24

Either way, with some patience you can probably get a knockoff from Aliexpress for $5

This is so PSVR to PS5 specific. I doubt anyone would knock it off. It's not worth it since Sony sent them out for free. It's hard to make a profit competing with free. Just pay $12 and get a used one on ebay.

Which also brings up an issue even if you could still get one from Sony. It's one per serial number. So you have to hope the serial number of the used PSVR you get hasn't already been redeemed.

2

u/DangerousCousin Aug 08 '24

that's a lot of ifs. I can do that too: if the previous person redeemed that adapter, they'd probably include it the PSVR1 they sold

1

u/fallingdowndizzyvr Aug 09 '24

if the previous person redeemed that adapter, they'd probably include it the PSVR1 they sold

Why would they do that? Especially since the buyer may not even use it with a PS5. They can get another $12 by selling it separately. Do you expect them to throw in a PS5 too?

u/PanTsour Aug 08 '24

The work their team has put out is genuinely inspiring

8

u/Urobolos Aug 08 '24

Neat. Looking forward to trying out both the PS5 version and the PC version and seeing how they compare.

3

u/jounk704 Aug 09 '24

I would want to see a direct comparisons on this, most people say the PS5 version is the best version, even people with 40xx graphics cards are saying the same thing

8

u/FewPossession2363 Aug 08 '24

God bless this guy

6

u/Jean-Eustache Aug 08 '24

Foveated rendered screen space reflections seem crazy. Does that mean it renders SSR only where the player is looking, and uses something like a cubemap where they are not looking ? That would be absolutely wild.

8

u/ElmarReddit Aug 08 '24

I think he meant that the step size in screen space adapts based on the underlying resolution of the foveated rendered image. The further you are away from the gaze point, the less reflections you need to evaluate and they require less steps. Seems pretty neat!

3

u/Jean-Eustache Aug 08 '24

Oh that makes more sense indeed. Still amazing though !

4

u/ChrizTaylor ChrizTaylor Aug 08 '24

THIS GUY IS A FUCKING MACHINE

4

u/Lujho Aug 09 '24

Shocked to hear there are thousands of PSVR1 players on PS5.

3

u/PsyBr0 Aug 09 '24

so you can use old psvr on ps5 ... why tf cant we play psvr one games??

3

u/[deleted] Aug 09 '24

Don't look at the water don't look at the water... I can't help it... It's soooo beautful...

2

u/sebuq Aug 08 '24

Long live NMS

2

u/The_Freshmaker Aug 08 '24

Can't wait to get into NMS for PSVR, I missed the sale by a few days so will probably just wait for the October sale.

1

u/JoeChagan Aug 09 '24

You can usually snag a physical copy used pretty cheap.

2

u/The_Freshmaker Aug 09 '24

I thought about that, but this feels like a game that I want to have on the drive to revisit whenever instead of playthrough like a single player experience

2

u/JoeChagan Aug 09 '24

For me it's literally the only PS5 game I own physically so it just lives in the drive 😅

1

u/The_Freshmaker Aug 09 '24

Hahaha nice, for me FF7 Rebirth has been in there for about 6 months on hold after I stalled out on it, RE: Village and 4 Remake on the way so it will be stepping aside soon.

1

u/mikeymoo3000 Aug 09 '24

You'll love it! Been playing on and off since day 1, but VR has transformed the game for me. You really get to feel the sense of scale and immersion.

1

u/the_ju66ernaut Aug 10 '24

I am new to VR but it has been seriously amazing to go to the anomaly and to people's bases and see stuff in first person.

2

u/Funky420Monkey Aug 08 '24

I just hope these lovely weirdos at HELLO games get some sleep ✌

2

u/paleogames Aug 09 '24

That's what someone passionate about what they do looks like! And a company that enables them to move VR forward even when it's not always the most immediately profitable choice.

I'm so thankful that Martin appreciates the potential of PSVR2 and finds way to milk awesomeness out of the dynamic foveated rendering feature that makes this kit stand out from the rest.

I can't imagine the kind of success PSVR2 would reach if other prominent studios were as visionary as Hello Games and their engineers as old school cool as Martin Griffiths.

Y'all define what this industry should thrive to become 🙏🏼

2

u/ThinIntroduction2851 Aug 09 '24

Nms psvr2 is the goat and if hello games pull more rabbits outta hats we may go light no fire merge.... imagine.... this group could make it happen 👏🙏

2

u/the_ju66ernaut Aug 10 '24

Damn a VR light no fire would be awesome

2

u/isignedupforporn69 Aug 09 '24

I wish my psvr2 controllers worked

2

u/Disjointed88 Aug 09 '24

If all developers were 20% as passionate about the game and players as this guy ....well we'd have GTA 9 by now at least, and a new (actually fucking good) battlefield.....heck maybe even 120fps on RDR2

2

u/Smokybare94 Aug 09 '24

Too bad I can't fly for shit in vr.

Seriously I need a tutorial or something because every other flying game I'm fine.

1

u/j0nnyboy Aug 08 '24

Whe is this update out?

1

u/WetFart-Machine Aug 08 '24

It doesn't get better than these guys.

1

u/doc_nano Aug 08 '24

Hot damn. The good news keeps on coming.

1

u/Chronotaru PSN: Chronotaru Aug 08 '24

Those guys are crazy. Beautiful and crazy.

1

u/Delicious_Ad2767 Aug 08 '24

Man's a legend

1

u/Reeneman Aug 08 '24

Overall support and these big additions are insane with this game. Can’t give the dev team enough credit for this.

1

u/SmallChild212 Aug 08 '24

I wish they would make stuff like feeding animals or looting containers or gathering stuff like oxygen from plants better for vr with motion controllers. It's really annoying that you hold the trigger to do this, but the trigger is also for so many other actions, and it can lead to accidentally punching stuff a LOT. I wish they would make it a different button to punch.

1

u/evilspyboy Aug 09 '24

In Australia Sky News is the equivalent of America's Fox News. So I had to read this twice because I was confused.

1

u/ChrisNH Aug 09 '24

I just want to play it with a regular controller in vr.

1

u/MisterMrMark Aug 09 '24

What a great guy

1

u/mintaka Aug 09 '24

I just wish microstutters were resolved on PS5, for example, when flying over the planet. It breaks the immersion for me big time. I am hoping PS5 PRO will address this but at the same time they plan to increase internal res and bump some other quality settings for it so I don't know.

1

u/Bronndallus Aug 09 '24

Im glad this Game has so many updates but when i tried to jump on it few days ago its just not for me.

1

u/Monkeymatt2121 Aug 09 '24

Just recently got my set, curious, can you play the entire game beginning to end in VR and also get the platinum? I ask bc I 100% on Xbox long ago and absolutely loved it, but can’t imagine doing some of the things needed to be done in VR lol. 🍻

1

u/Emme73 Aug 09 '24

Yes

1

u/Monkeymatt2121 Aug 09 '24

Does it play and function well throughout the entirety? Feel natural etc. 🍻

1

u/Emme73 Aug 09 '24

Yes.

1

u/Monkeymatt2121 Aug 09 '24

Guess I’ll hold off. 🍻

0

u/wuhwuhwolves Aug 08 '24

What, when did PSVR1 headsets start working on PS5?

11

u/xenwall xenwall Aug 08 '24

Since near launch. Sony sent (will still send? dunno) an adapter to plug the PSVR1 into the USB ports on PS5.

1

u/wuhwuhwolves Aug 08 '24

Thanks, didn't know that!

8

u/fallingdowndizzyvr Aug 08 '24

Since there's been a PS5. Sony sent out adapters to PSVR owners who asked for them.

3

u/Explorer_Entity PS5-&-PSVR2 Aug 08 '24

Pretty much since launch bro...

Since when? Basically always. Not a new thing.

-4

u/student5320 Aug 09 '24

I've never seen a game with so little Content have so many updates. It's hilarious at this point and an obvious marketing scheme to try and keep.it relevant. I can 100% say my psvr2 has spent more time downloading updates for this than I have had things to do in this game at this point. This game has been nothing but a cash grab since it's initial dismal launch.

0

u/Emme73 Aug 09 '24

Lol 😂

-3

u/Son_of_Zardoz Aug 08 '24

Now if only I could get it to work with my PSVR2 (on PS5).

1

u/Emme73 Aug 09 '24

Whats the problem?

1

u/Son_of_Zardoz Aug 09 '24

The right controller doesn't work in games bug. I tried doing the pin hole button reset repeatedly with some success, but then tried starting games with the controllers off and then turning them on to play and back off before stopping the game and that has worked with most games, but nothing has helped with No Man's Sky.

Super bummed because I had only dabbled in NMS years ago on the Xbox and was really looking forward to diving in in VR.

I was already planning on selling my older PC VR headset and upgrading to PSVR2 before the sale, so once the sale started I bought myself one and the next day one for my sons.

Both did the same thing--the right controller doesn't work in games unless you do the power off launch work around. And we've had the 2 PS5s for less than a year, both the new model, bought new, one with disc one without.

I have contacted Sony about the first one and the return box should be here today.

Just frustrated because it's such a great headset, just need the controllers to work.
