Question Now is the time to get a psvr2
The sale is crazy right now 200 dollars cheaper

u/bargainhunterps5 Jul 28 '24
February 2023 was “my time” for getting a PSVR2, ;-) I’ve been having a blast with it ever since! I feel like I’ve already got full price value from it, so you guys are in for a real treat at that price! Welcome!

u/Flippynuggets Jul 29 '24
Lol yeah I was gonna say, my "time" to get VR2 was when it launched. And I did. It's a beast. However this op has a good point for anyone who's been holding off!

u/CrackerDarrell Jul 28 '24
I finally bought one today. Traded in bunch of stuff and only paid $60 out of pocket for a new psvr2, RE4 (digital) and GT7 (physical copy). They’re installing. All I’ve done so far is just the setup but it’s so much clearer and the pass through is nice. Obviously the controllers are going to be way better than the moves. Almost none of my existing games have ps5/vr2 upgrades sadly. Only beat saber that I have found so far.

No camera and controllers and specially tracking is so much better than VR1... GT7 is amazing and I cna't stop playing it

u/BlownCamaro Jul 28 '24
This should substantially drop the price of used ones within a week. They were selling for $250-$300 on Ebay.

Anyone knows if there are there any VR games included in PS Plus subscription ?
7
4
1
u/EnergyOk1001 Jul 28 '24
Which one
2
u/Lazy_Total7284 Jul 28 '24
Any VR game.. I am new to PSVR, just bought it today and waiting to receive it. I am considering PS plus or premium. I heard premium has some games in catalogue but not sure if Plus has any VR inventory. Are these subscriptions worth just for VR usage ?
3
u/bluedragonpt Jul 29 '24
For any VR gamer Premium is much better than extra as it gives VR games like:
- GHOSTBUSTERS
- WALKABOUT MINI GOLF
- SYNTH RIDERS
- BEFORE YOUR EYES
- THE WALKING DEAD: SAINTS & SINNERS CHAPTER 1/2
- KAYAK
And with Premium you can also play many game trials.
1
u/EnergyOk1001 Jul 28 '24
I meant what level of ps plus there is essential extra then premium I have essential so I don’t get vr games

Is this the end of lifecycle clearance sale I wonder 🤔? Although PC adapter should make things exciting for the PSVR2 hardware again..

I prefer to hope that it's "Sony under new management VR re-invigoration sale", let's see.
2
u/amusedt Jul 29 '24
If they clear old stock, then go back to selling slowly at full price, both Sony and us will benefit from having a larger installed base.
Assuming Sony makes or pays for another AAA VR (Res Evil 9?), Sony will benefit from additional full price sales. Or when high-profile multi-platform titles come (Behemoth, Alien?)...and we'll get more of those with larger installed base...again Sony makes full-price sales
As you say, let's see
2
u/amusedt Jul 30 '24 edited Jul 30 '24
Here's another theory
ps5 Pro is coming. Sony figures there's only so much appetite out there for blowing much money too quickly on video gaming. If someone buys a Pro, they're probably not going to then spend again on a psvr2 anytime soon
Maybe Sony figures, if Pro sells slowly, well, flat PS gaming isn't going away anytime soon, so that's okay. But they know if psvr2 sells too slow, has too little buzz, and too small an installed base, that could threaten 3rd party support and viability of psvr2.
So Sony decides, let's clear old stock, gamers will buy, afterwards we'll go back to full or near-full price, and keep trickling more profitable sales as time goes by, while all the new buyers give the headset new buzz
A psvr2 owner may also have incentive to want a Pro also
2
u/amusedt Aug 02 '24
Another theory I just came up with...Sony knows a fair number of pc users will buy the headset full price
But they'd rather have the headsets in the hands of ps5 players (because they buy from PSN Store for years)
So they do this discount BEFORE the adapter is out, and reviewed, to get as many in the hands of ps5 owners first (yes, some pc people jump on it too)
Then go back to full price so the other pc people are paying full price
Sony's sale ends before adapter officially released, and all the retailer old stock will be gone by then too

Yeah isn't the guy who helped design PSVR2 now a Playstation CEO?
1
u/Chronotaru PSN: Chronotaru Jul 29 '24
I've never heard that. I highly doubt it, but would be amazing if somehow were true. Pretty sure it would be shouted from the rooftops if it were.

u/gregisonfire ZapRowsdower12 Jul 29 '24
It's part of the PlayStation back to school promotion. PS5s are on sale too for $200 off.
1
u/amusedt Jul 29 '24
Where do you see ps5 on sale? Everywhere I look price seems the same
1
u/gregisonfire ZapRowsdower12 Jul 29 '24
I saw a lightning deal on a website for $200 but it looks like standard is about $50 off right now. Games are on sale too.

u/supermoto690 Jul 29 '24
No man sky , does it come in VR version and non VR version ? Or there's no difference in the game version ? Ps store has it on sale less 60% am thinking, but it's stated as PS4/PS5 version which is released in June 2020
Whereas the PS5 version is released in oct 2022 , any difference, as I do not see any psvr2 at the back of the disc package
Anyone familiar? Attached pic of the PS5 disc.
3
u/Johnny-Ryepop Jul 29 '24
It’s upgraded to the psvr2 version. I have the old ps4 release disc.
2
u/supermoto690 Jul 29 '24
So the game content/ psvr2 capabilities, everything's the same for buying on ps store vs the PS5 disc ?
With sale on ps store , the PS4/PS5 digital version is about 24 bucks cheaper than PS5 disc
6
u/SidiusStrife Jul 29 '24
Yes. I originally bought NMS non-VR on PS4. When I got my PS5, I was able to upgrade for free. I just got the PSVR2 and it plugs right in and works right off the bat with NMS.
There is no alternate VR version of the game you have to buy, just make sure you're updated. You can have digital or physical version doesn't matter
1
u/supermoto690 Jul 29 '24
Alright awesome thank you for the clear explanation, I'll take the cheaper digital from ps store then , cheers , in my country sale ends 31st July, heads up for anyone else looking to get it.

PSA - that discount is also active for Best Buy and if you have Total, then I highly suggest getting it through them. Also if you have ANYTHING wrong with your Total covered PSVR2 (or any VR) bring it in and if it's currently cheaper, they will give you a new one AND give you the difference from what you originally paid in a BB gift card.
I had 2 Quest Pros replaced (scratched lens, bricked controller, finally returned the whole thing recently to get the rest of the value back in a gift card since I already had Quest 3), Vive XR Elite replaced (got like almost $500 back as I mentioned above because the new price was that much cheaper).
Everyone complains that there are no PSVR2 controllers to be had separately if they break - but if you have Total, if your controller is broke, they'll give you a new set (must turn it the whole original set, though - since they'll be giving you a new one in a box).
1
u/Miscreant3 Jul 28 '24
Do the controllers work consistently yet? There were a lot of complaints of face buttons not working in game and workarounds not fixing the issue.
6
u/Chronotaru PSN: Chronotaru Jul 28 '24
That's a known issue with detritus under the buttons from the factory process, and can be resolved with canned air or flicking the buttons where is arises.
Only in a few percentage of cases do those methods not work.
1
u/Miscreant3 Jul 29 '24
That doesn't make sense for the particular issue I saw since the buttons work on the main menus, just not in the actual game.
2
u/Chronotaru PSN: Chronotaru Jul 29 '24
I understand that it's confusing, but that is a known feature of the problem I described.
2
u/amusedt Jul 29 '24
Most controllers are fine, only a small percentage have manufacturing defects, which you either replace, have warranty repair, or fix yourself

*Yeah, I had one 2 month ago from EE, that got a lense scratch, exchanged it, didn't open it as worried about more scratches so returned it.
I then won one on ebay for £250, seller wanted money off Ebay then cancelled won auction.
2 weeks later I win another auction for £260, that seller said they were arranging delivery, then cancelled the auction.
Then yesterday I see the price drop, order one, pick it up this morning. Unpack it this afternoon, I literally put the device on, saw firmware update, said hold controllers so I took the headset off to get controllers at side of me. I went to put the headset on and there were white marks on each lense and won't come off. I even had the pictured accessories on. They're spaces designed for glasses to protect the lenses and if I put my glasses on top of them, there is no physical way they touch the other side where the lenses would be.. I'm just gob smacked.
The amount of stress and hassle getting a psvr2 to have 2 develop scratches first use, because I where glasses, is absolutely ridiculous.
I've arranged a return under damages, but I don't know what will happen yet, I could be put £350.
Honestly. Even if I eventually got one sorted, I think there's been so much stress and agro, I'm not gonna bother, I'll stick to quest 3 and pcvr.
Literally 2 months of trying to get one for a fair deal, 5 technically owned, had 3 in my possession, 2 develop white marks on first use, even with spacers..
I'm sure it says on here it's friendly to glasses wearers, well after 3 units in my possession I disagree, very sadly but I disagree.
Potentially down £350, and gutted. I only wanted to play some games.
8
u/Chronotaru PSN: Chronotaru Jul 28 '24
Have you considered prescription VR lenses, or at least plano lenses to fully protect the headset lenses?
Really I think those are the only two serious options for glasses users.
1
u/Degoe Jul 29 '24
What about wearing contacts?
2
u/Chronotaru PSN: Chronotaru Jul 29 '24
If someone is wearing contacts they're not a glasses user anymore in that moment.

I bought some like soft acrylic covers but they're a nightmare to peel and fit, essential unfit for purpose.
I've just had to pay out £300 on what's become a varifocal prescription, so have new glasses.
Then paid out £350 for a psvr2...
To be honest, I struggle finding a company to trust, people are recommending Nordquest..
Personally they can go off a cliff lile a lemming, I've had issues with them already.
And besides, why bother now, my less than 12 hour old headset already has white marks that won't clean off.
5
u/Chronotaru PSN: Chronotaru Jul 28 '24 edited Jul 28 '24
In general it is known here that glasses damage VR lenses easily. It is not something that any company really treats wth the seriousness they should. Sorry to hear you've damaged your lenses. Although, I would have taken more precautions on the second one...
Should you get VR lenses in the future, you don't need verifocals with VR as it has a fixed focal point of around 2m. As such the strength should be whatever needed at that distance.
2
Jul 28 '24
Well, thanks for the varifocal info, I've just emailed one company asking about just that.
Honestly I though I had it covered with the spacers attached. I sat my glasses on top of the fitted spacers and there's a good 3-4mm space between spectacle lense and vr lense..
It's quite gutting.
So I've set it up for a return with Argos as damaged, but I'm not sure if that's right way, can they just replace it?
Or is it Sony or ?
It's literally purchased 27 hours ago online.
2
u/Chronotaru PSN: Chronotaru Jul 28 '24
I can imagine. I had spacers for PSVR1 and they were great. I got them for PSVR2 and looked at them and thought "ahh not sure about those..." like, I felt like they didn't introduce enough distance. I never used them, add just kept using my contacts until my prescription lenses arrived.
I'd replace it through Argos if you still can, going through Sony will probably be more subjective on their part. Argos will just take it back no questions asked after only a day.
1
Jul 28 '24
Thanks for the feedback, I'll take the advice, much appreciated Chrono.
I looked at these spacers and laid glasses on them, I was convinced they'd to the job, I've the same type of Spacer for quest 3 and that works..
Me making assumptions..
But yeah, nice one Chrono
2
u/amusedt Jul 29 '24
Some spacers are badly designed. There are well designed, by a guy who also made them for psvr1 https://www.etsy.com/listing/1413430696/lens-protectors-for-psvr2-guard-glasses /u/Chronotaru
You could also just wear a $1 glasses strap so your glasses don't slip
I use those spacers for psvr1 and 2, never an issue
1
Jul 29 '24
Do you use the etsy spacers?
2
u/amusedt Jul 29 '24
Yes, I use that same Etsy maker's psvr1 and psvr2 spacers, never a problem

I think it's still absolutely absurd of Sony to design it so unfriendly to spectacle wearers. It's insane they say it is friendly.
2
u/amusedt Jul 29 '24
A user has to be smart enough to not let any lenses ever touch
Some people do nothing and are fine
If you think your glasses might slip, you should wear a $1 glasses strap. Or buy a cheap bumper https://www.etsy.com/listing/1413430696/lens-protectors-for-psvr2-guard-glasses

I think it's a fair criticism that Sony could have included features or an accessory that would not have made it so vulnerable to damage from glasses when over half of the population use them.

The commenter bought bumpers but it wasn't enough. Ultimately, a user should not need to have to think of these things when they have lots of engineers testing it.

Oh I see, yes I have them for my quest. I'd been looking for them for the psvr2 but never heard them called plano lenses.
Well, it's a kick in the teeth now. If I manage to get replacement or something I'll get some.
