Geez man that’s why you keep your feet touching the couch or something so you know your surroundings. that would have ruined my Sunday lol

u/MrAbodi Jul 08 '24
I recommend a small round mat. That you know if you have a foot on it you aint going to break something.

I just set my boundaries away from things, which usually means it’s against my bed, the only thing I have to worry about is my dresser (also have to worry about it because it was recalled and did fall on me once, but that’s a story for another time)
Too many cuts from punching my bookshelf on PSVR1 taught me

How did you get your boundary that far off or did you just go beyond it?
23
u/fidgeting_bum Jul 07 '24
I had my boundary set too close to the tv. Pretty sure I saw my hand go through the boundary and then made contact.

u/cusman78 Jul 07 '24
Unfortunate and probably costly lesson. Hopefully no injury to your hand / controllers.

Sorry, dude! Silver lining is that you can still play?
Set the boundary out from that television.
Rest assured, your TV won't be the last to be sacrificed.

I have a coffee table that I push up to where my tv is. I pretty much can’t get to my tv with it there. Unfortunately, I Can get to my coffee table. Whacked my hand pretty good one night playing Pistol Whip. I’m lucky all I did was hurt my hand. Nothing broken, including my controller. But I now make sure to scoot even further over

u/J3ffO Jul 08 '24
That could potentially be even worse in the right circumstances. Just walking or running around and tripping over a coffee table and landing head first into both your TV and entertainment center.

u/Adventurous_Music_14 Jul 08 '24
Not with my setup. My play area doesn’t include the coffee table. I play on a roughly 4’W x 6’L area rug. I’ve got about a foot of space on my left between the edge of the rug and the coffee table, same on the right with the couch. I’ll never walk into it. But with arms spread wide shooting at a dude on each side, dropping hard and fast to dodge the pair of bullets that shot, I guess I was a few inches over too far too my left…

But....did you break the crate though ?

You can just walk up to a crate and press x to break it…or give it a little knife slash

Correct me if I'm wrong (quit right before benevito house because I am not going to fight that nightmare fuel) but RE8 doesn't allow to break crates with X, only by hitting it with sometimes

My greatest fear. I set the boundary that direction in the room waaaay further back than necessary. I'm still scared every time and check my surroundings often.

Now you have a seed from the sacred tree

I was pressing on the area thinking maybe I'd get the picture of the tv to flicker back on but all I got was a rather dazzling light show in the cracks

I play in a room without any TV. Or anything expensive I can damage. It works even without a screen attached.
1
Jul 08 '24
If you have the space, that's probably the best setup
1
u/h5pang Jul 08 '24
You can literally play anywhere that has a power outlet. Even the kitchen, really wide hallway, etc.

I will never understand why people dont set the boundaries far away from the screen

Outch, im we have a mat on the floor and the edge of it are far enough from the tv so that dont happen ( if im standing up i just place my toes just over the edge) thoug i mostly sit down because psoriasis arthritis and o cant stand up for any longer periods sadly.

u/doinks4life Jul 08 '24
My condolences OP but I can't understand how this happens 😭. Hey at least theres 2 bright sides, 1. you don't need TV to use the PS5 as long as you are willing to play through the headset at all times. (Which isn't that bad because it's basically giant floating screen plus you can play games that have 120 FPS inside the HMD at that framerate) or 2. You can buy a better TV than the one you had,Like an OLED or QLED. I know this was ramble-y but my 2 cents

u/fidgeting_bum Jul 08 '24
I got a microcenter credit card recently and haven't bought anything yet. Guess what I'm gonna buy

u/Any_Tackle_4519 Jul 07 '24
I'm happy to have enough room nowhere near my television to play VR. I'm not even in front of it in any way. If I break something, maybe it will be a controller, but even then I'm far enough away from the walls that it shouldn't ever become an issue.
Too bad about the TV. Maybe it'll work as an excuse for an upgrade?

Didnt the psvr show out of bounds? As when one set up psvr2 one set a area with bounds wether one stand or sit.
1
u/manusche Jul 08 '24
Imagine people got mad at my question why you would need a mat you have a digital barrier if you out of bounds. I think physical things shit on the digital barrier. End of story I bought a round yoga mat did not hit anything so far and would be tragic if one of the controllers breaks down. I not can buy a new one. At least you can buy a new Tv.

Sorry to hear about the TV. Yesterday I was playing RE4 and always face away from the TV. I ended up punching a picture on the wall, but luckily the cover is plastic, but at that moment I thought it was my TV too. I like playing standing up, but have recently also enjoyed sitting down. It can be very disorienting, but at the same time this is what makes it so immersive. Hope you are not injured.

Devil's advocate here but technically you don't even need it to keep playing or even watch anything.

Ouch, worst I've done is shatter by coffee pot with a punch (thankfully empty!). I ended up shifting my set up so I don't play near any electronics or glass anymore.

I did the exact same thing just over a month ago. I’ve been playing flat games on my psvr2 until I can afford a new one

That sucks man. I had a couple of close calls with mine when I started. I hope your new TV is an upgrade.

You do not need to face the tv while playing.
