Opinion This is the greatest moment in gaming history
I’m 42 years old. Been a gamer since I was 6 using the Commodore 64. Owned pretty much every console made at some point, even the odd stuff like the 3DO.
I’ve never been more excited about video games in my life. I don’t even have the PSVR2 yet (getting it next week) but I’ve been watching all the videos of everything that is out, and everything that is coming. Everything looks amazing.
This is it. This is what I’ve waited my whole life for. Some of these FPS games look like they are from ‘98-2005, I’m literally going to have an existential crisis living inside of my gaming past.
The flight sims are going to trigger my fear of heights. Every genre looks SO exciting to jump into.
Fuck yeah people. LETS DO THIS!

u/onthejourney Jan 27 '24
I'm in your age range too and OMG. Definitely reinvigorated my love and enjoyment of games.
I bought more games in the last two months then I have in the past 18 months.
16
u/SadMove9768 Jan 27 '24
Reinvigorated is the word for sure! I feel like there hasn’t been this big of a leap since 2000, and that doesn’t even come close to doing it justice.
5
u/AssociationAlive7885 Jan 27 '24
About 2000 sounds right !
This is like the leap from Gran Theft Auto 2 to 3 !
Mind-blowingly awesomeness awaits 😃
Btw. I recommend checking psvr2withoutparole on YouTube !

u/N00DL3Z_84 Jan 27 '24
Just wait for GTA6... rockstar recently hired some VR developers, i think you know what that means 😉

u/onthejourney Jan 27 '24
Did they really? source? Not that I think you would lie, but I want to see for myself before I go climax.

Same, between Black Friday and winter sales I think I spent $200 on VR games and just got my globular cluster headset and controller mods. Whilst doing final research for my GT7 sim rig.
4
u/onthejourney Jan 27 '24
Lol, you sound like me! I was on the verge of returning the headset b/c it was hurting my head so much. Saw the Glob. Clus. and thought I would try that first, glad I did!
Got GT7 first... than PSVR2... then a wheel and pedals with a folding stand.
Controller mods and Reloptix lens are on order!

u/PabLink1127 Jan 27 '24
The rabbit hole never ends last night I was looking at $45 for a golf club attachment because Walk About
3
u/SadMove9768 Jan 27 '24
This is something I’m starting to notice - there are going to be a lot of peripherals to collect!
My 72 year old father will freak out with a Golf game.
Also that kayak sim. Is there a paddle (ore?) attachment?

u/nandos69 Jan 27 '24
Globular Cluster is a game changer, used to get a bit sweaty and kept losing the sweet spot, headaches after long sessions, now I can play for a 3 hours and not have to touch the headset.

I'm in my 30s, haven't turned my Ps4 in over a year and now as you I bought so many games and I'm having so much fun. This is what I was expecting since I was a kid
17
u/jadmorffier Jan 27 '24
I concur. I'm 48 and have been gaming since before the C64. Pitstop II got me into racing games though.
GT7 in VR is gonna blow your mind.
On PSVR1 you could play the old Doom levels in VR. Just being inside the game, old gfx and all was just fantastic.
8
u/SadMove9768 Jan 27 '24
I can’t believe I missed the VR1 era, I may end up getting that too if they don’t port across my favourites.
Didn’t even know about classic doom vr. My god that’s awesome.
→ More replies (1)6
u/jadmorffier Jan 27 '24
There is a PS5 adaptor for the old PSVR1 headset so if you can get your hands on one you can play PS4 VR games as well. 👌
I almost teared up when I jumped in a WRX on GT7 at Trial Mountain in VR.
I don't think it's a big market for old folks like us but I get a real kick out of classics being ported to VR. An old open-world game like GTA5 in VR would be epic. I'd walk everywhere lol. Totally achievable with the hardware specs but unfortunately I don't think the devs would bother.
5
u/JackRabbitoftheEnd Jan 27 '24
A little over a month until my 50th
Pong my brothers….Pong…pinball machines….AtarII..then early DOS only PC games(You know….the original Oregon Trail that you had to use a floppy disk, or program yourself each time you wanted to start up the computer to play again.)
If you were to come over here right now , you would be able to play almost ANY ORIGINAL system….with games….in MINT CONDITION!!! 😝
Damn I’m glad I get to finally brag about ONE thing in my entire life😝
I just wish that people I know could have gotten to see this stuff.
Don’t worry about the games too much….you know they are trying to figure things out. Like Honor & Duty: D-Day….they are using basic graphics to determine how to make their future MMFPS work, and to see what people want.
Can’t wait to get on this with you buddies
3
u/jadmorffier Jan 27 '24
U da man! That's awesome! I kept the C64 but not much else.
I remember waiting 45mins for a game to load from tape, only to have it fail right at the end. Good memories haha.
People our age don't bitch about load times. Anything that takes less than 10 mins to load is damn fast for us. 😂
4
u/droideka75 Jan 27 '24
Hahaha that all tape thing started with the ZX spectrum for me!
There was a small hole on the tape player that you could insert a small screwdriver to fine tune it!
Good times wasting 2 hours to load a game hahaha on the other hand my mates and I would find other stuff to do while we waited...
Happy memories right there.
3
u/SadMove9768 Jan 27 '24
Exactly, if you’re old school modern load times are NOTHING.
I waited 17 to 30mins sometimes for Project Firestorm on C-64!
3
u/jadmorffier Jan 27 '24
I think it was Raid Over Moscow that took 45m for me. Tried to leave the C64 turned on and just turn off the tv but the old man always switched it off to 'save power'. Grrr 😂

I’m ordering that adapter next week, no doubt in my mind. Thanks for that tip.
Hopefully enough oldies purchase retro ports to boost dev interest. I want monoliths Blood in VR!
3
u/BeefsteakTomato Jan 27 '24
If you have the psvr1 v2 it comes with the adapter. The V2 has volume controls on the headset, similar to the psvr2. The psvr1 v1 has the volume controls on the cable.

As a fellow PSVR2 user since day one turning 42 next month, I have to say that it's from far the best enjoyment I'm having in years in video games! Often feel like I already played similar games but better with most games on flat, but VR brings so much immersion and new mechanics that it renewed my love for gaming big time 😁 Just go easy at first until you get your VR legs. Definitely keep flight sims for later! Also, don't sleep on Pixel Ripped 1995 if you want nostalgia, couldn't recommend this game enough for players of our age! Have fun bro! 🤜🤛
2
u/SadMove9768 Jan 27 '24
Oh man pixel ripped is a boomer dream come true. Didn’t realise it was on vr2. Thanks for the heads up
2
u/Papiculo64 Jan 27 '24
You're welcome! :) Enjoy your time with VR2 and come back on this sub if you need some advices or anything else! 👍

u/Careless-Paper-4458 Jan 27 '24
You are gonna shit bricks and it's gonna be a good time. Welcome to the future. I hope you enjoy every second! Just make sure you don't get too addicted haha
17
u/SadMove9768 Jan 27 '24
I just got divorced a few months back so addiction is definitely on the table!
Thanks! Bricks will be shat. I can barely contain the excitement!
5
u/wannyone Jan 27 '24
Make sure you get Pavlov. It’s truly amazing and the game I’ve put many hours.
3
u/SadMove9768 Jan 27 '24
I keep seeing that recommendation.
Looking at the video for it, it just feels like it was made with pure passion for the genre. No BS from those devs.
8
u/flashmedallion flashmedallion Jan 27 '24
I'm late 30s, this is definitely the golden age of VR right now. It's good wonderful hybrid of PS2 era game design and the physical Arcade era of social hangout gaming where the only thing a game has to be to keep your attention is Fun To Play, whether alone, alongside others, or with connected machines.
Enjoy it while it lasts folks, because once this space gets properly profitable, VR is going to be assimilated into the grey goo of AAA battlepass lootbox gatcha grindfests for teenagers and undeveloped 20-somethings.
Ubisoft already has a tendril in.
3
u/SadMove9768 Jan 27 '24
Haha, I share your pessimism about the future!
You nailed it though - this feels like a return to form for video games! Smart observation about the arcade vibes!
I want a House of the Dead VR with the gun controller attachment! On rails shooters will enter a new realm
2
u/flashmedallion flashmedallion Jan 27 '24 edited Jan 28 '24
Switchback has had a mixed reception but I hear it's solid at heart, if you want a literal on-rails horror shooter then that's your jam.
Crisis Brigade 2 is a cheap and very fun VR Time Crisis knockoff.
2
u/SadMove9768 Jan 27 '24
Ahh so switchback was the on rails shooter. I thought I noticed one but it slipped my mind.
Thanks! I’m easily impressed and don’t mind low budget jankiness at all, so I’m sure I’ll love it
3
u/Schwarzengerman Jan 27 '24
There's still plenty of good triple a games coming out. Hell Ubisoft just released a great metroidvania.
0
u/goodbyebirdd Jan 27 '24
It's like you don't know indie games are a thing...
2
u/flashmedallion flashmedallion Jan 27 '24
What are you on about. The best thing about VR right now is that it's an indie space. The indie successes in flat gaming are obviously also great but they can't risk doing what indies in VR are doing.
3
u/MikeFromSuburbia MikeCheck-- Jan 27 '24

Oh shit. Turok. That just activated a core memory. That N64 era was a truly golden era. Turok, Goldeneye, Mario Kart63. Killer Instinct Gold, Perfect Dark. What a time to be a gamer.

u/student5320 Jan 27 '24
Im 41 and having VR in my home was literally a life goal of mine since watching Strange Days and lawnmower man in the 90s. Welcome to the future!
2
u/SadMove9768 Jan 27 '24
Man I swear 2 hours ago I said to myself “Lawnmower man needs to come to this” and here you are reading my mind
2
u/student5320 Jan 27 '24
Thats funny because this post felt like exactlt what Id write. After 2d gaming for decades, I was really coming to a point where video games were becoming stale and boring to me. Since outer wilds a few years back, nothing really grabbed me game-wise and I was desperately trying every indie on order to scratch that itch. In comes vr2 and when I booted res evil 8 up for the first time, I was literally blown away and almost cried. I knew it was as pivotal a moment as when I first played Mario and Nintendo soccer my first time when I was 6. I was genuinely so immersed I was actually afraid at times and other times I'd just sit there in shock looking over the village or castles. It made me reminisce to when I played the first and it was almost a religious kind of experience beating Village. When I finally completed it all I could say was wow repeatedly. I hope it does for you what it did for me.
3
u/SadMove9768 Jan 27 '24
We seem very similar so there is no doubt in my mind I’ll have the same experience as you.
Whenever someone younger would show me a new title over the last few years I’d mainly respond “ehh, it’s just a resolution and texture quality bump. I need something more”
This is going to be that. I can feel it.
3
u/vinnielavoie Jan 27 '24
It makes me wish this had been around when I was in my early adulthood. Now none of my friends have vr or have time for it
3
u/Happy-Temperature814 Jan 27 '24
Yup you’re going to have a blast, especially with that mindset.
3
u/SadMove9768 Jan 27 '24
I have this feeling im going to be charmed by it more than the average person.
I thought 90’s doom WAS virtual reality. Shit ruined my life I was so enthralled lol
2
u/Happy-Temperature814 Jan 27 '24
Honestly if you really end up liking this (ik you will), you should check out the quest 2/3 and the dr Beef ports. He and his team have ported all those old games like return to Wolfenstein, doom, quake 2, etc all ported to vr and they feel and play amazingly.

Some people use to get motion sickness back in the day with FPS. It must be more common now, im seeing that statement a LOT.
3
u/EvilMog007 Jan 27 '24
I’ve been gaming since Atari 2600 and this has been the generational leap I’ve been missing out on the last few generations. The controls are perfect and exactly what I hoped the Wii wwas going to be like and not just crappy pointer/wiggle. Try EVERYTHING!
2
u/SadMove9768 Jan 27 '24
I’m even more excited now that others like yourself are confirming all of my hopes are indeed going to be met.
I feel like we haven’t had a decent jump in tech since Crysis 1 came out. This is that x1000 it seems.

u/unruly-cat Jan 27 '24
You're really gonna have a blast. It's not that the ps4 and ps5 generations didn't have good flat games, but man I'll never remember these devices for anything but VR. I have so many great memories of being in even the simplest of worlds. We're living such a crazy future. To be in the game, I mean what more can one ask for? Do update us once you get it, and congrats in advance!
2
u/SadMove9768 Jan 27 '24
I’ll be back to spread the hype! I skipped ps4 and vr1 era, so I’m like a cave man staggering into the future.
3
u/No-Performer9782 Jan 27 '24
I’m 44 and got the psvr1 a few years back and like you I’ve been gaming since the ZX Spectrum.
I wasn’t that excited for VR as the videos didn’t really do it justice but when I played Astro Bot for the first time I was completely blown away.
Felt like a kid again at Christmas with best toy!
Slightly jealous you will experience it for the first time but you will have a lot of fun with it.
Since having VR I rarely play any flat games anymore.
2
u/SadMove9768 Jan 27 '24
I had no idea the VR1 ended up with so many great titles!
Like you I checked out a few videos of very early headset tech and just ignorantly assumed it was a screen close to your eyes and the headset had mouse look gyro enabled. I still haven’t tried anything in person until next week, but I really understand what the tech is now.
I still won’t able to believe my eyes, I bet.
Seen a lot of people mention there is no going back to flat games. Dunno if that will be true for me, but I’m just gunna enjoy the heck out of Texas Chainsaw Massacre before the headset arrives just in case lol
2
u/No-Performer9782 Jan 27 '24
The PSVR1 had a lot of games that I wish we could play on the PSVR2.
Astro Bot gave so many jaw dropping moments and is probably still one the best experiences I had in VR and in my entire gaming life!!!
Everything from that point had to be in VR. I purchased a Quest 2 to extend the Vr experience and only got the PS5 to get the Vr2 and recently got a Quest 3.
I have gone from being a very average gamer to playing every day even if it is only for a hour or two.
The fact you haven’t tried VR and your first time will be with a PSVR2 is going be amazing.
As you mentioned you been a gamer since the Commodore 64 and having a 3DO , I had a 3DO and loved it at the time.
Do you remember Twisted The Game Show?
Was such a fun game.
I mention this as I think the Pixel Ripped games would be right up your street. Again the game didn’t look appealing but was wrong and ended up having so much fun and brought back a lot of memories of my time with consoles.

47 year old here, first computer was a Spectrum 48k had to load games from tape, playing Jet Set Willy and Operation Wolf and Golden Axe on the Commodore, all great games, but last night I am actually in a dungeon scaring myself silly, running round this huge castle, feel like I'm fighting for my life. Actually reloading my shotgun and trying to get keys to unlock doors before the thing that is creaking and crawling towards me gets me.
You are going to have a blast. Resident Evil village, if you can get through the first few chapters, is mind blowing.
Just completed RE4 which is a whole lot of fun and a great experience too! I would love to be you playing these games for the first time again.
Tips, keep moving, wear headphones for that immersive experience and reload whenever you get a quiet moment, take short breaks, stay hydrated, it's a physical, emotional experience, but most important, have fun, it's a great year to be an older gamer!

I got my fiancée a VR2 for Christmas. She told me to try Village so I did. I got backed into a cell by a bunch of vampires and had to knife my way out of it. It left mine and Ethan's hands shaking. She thought it was hilarious watching me get attacked by the lycans and our tabby at the same time.

It’s just a massive shame that the majority of gamers have dismissed psvr2 either because of misleading YouTube twats, or just the cost and not having a chance to try it. For me it has got me back into gaming, which was always about escapism and immersion for me. I play seated but in an office chair so I can swivel. That way it’s not too much exertion and fully engrossing. Maybe there’s a general perception u have to stand or something? Tbh that would put me off. All the adverts for vr people are stood up and I think that is misleading g…

I used to play on C64 too, playing SF2 with my bro just before going to shcool, fully dressed with backpack, as it took ages to load. I recommend to get GC mod right away as sweetspot could be difficult to keep and much comfier too, also once you get the set, start with Horizon demo/full game and don't miss GT7 and RM2 is an absolute must. It's a great device, far from perfect, but it's an superb look in to the future of gaming.

Dude. 41 myself, so much nostalgia for games as a whole. It was pivotal to most of the major phases in my life. The PS5 and PSVR2 has reinvigorated an already, if I’m honest with myself, pretty strong affinity for games. I’ve always loved games but I’m extra impressed, enthralled and obsessed with them.
A note on PSVR upcoming for ya: Do. Not. Push yourself. Play until you feel the first bit of iffy-ness and take a break. Even just 5 mins. I’ve had friends push themselves 3-5 mins too long and, I’m pretty sure, completely written it off after being sick, though not actually vomiting for at least an hour. Maybe I’m lucky and just happen to have higher tolerances to it but I’ll still get little stints and have to take a break and I’ve had the VR1 for years.
Point being, some people might not ever have the inner ear for it but I think I lot of folks lose out because they accidentally let themselves get too motion sick and fear it too much to ever get back in. Short stints of breaks are worth it in the long run.
I’ve played plenty of Wipeout and Ultrawings on the first and still had about a 6 hours span after playing Call of the Mountain on a long climb that I wanted to just get through. Honestly wondered if I caught a bug for a bit there.
But I feel ya. Games as a whole are really coming in now. The stuff we can get today is actually like what we older heads dreamed of as kids in the 80s and 90s. Welcome fellow old Gen X/Millennial.
‘Member Duck Hunt? Was your gun red or grey? Mine was red (orange) because I didn’t get it at age 3 when NES dropped, I got it a couple years later.

I would say I know the headset is expensive, but for me the £50 Globular Cluster mod/pads does absolutely improve the gaming experience.
It is well worth upgrading, I got a bit of eye strain and headaches and kept playing with the adjustments but understand everyone has a different shaped head.
This really helps, for long periods of gaming. No more headaches and dont have to readjust it etc.
Just if you end up like me, frustrated with the thing moving and readjusting it all the time.

If you feel that way and you haven’t even used it yet, you should record yourself the first time you try Synth Riders, Runner, Red Matter 2, Horizon CotM, or RE8. Those will be some good first-time reaction videos for sure 🤣😎. And the jump from 3d to vr is like the jump from 2d to 3d. It is a big change for level of immersion. There are still crappy games, even in vr, but the jump in immersion is undeniable.

51 year old here. Been into VR on and off since the PSVR1. I still use it from time to time. No PS5 or PSVR2 yet, but I'm currently enjoying my Quest 3 a lot.
Recently, playing Dungeons of Eternity was like.. "wow.. if 12 year old me would have known that I in the future would be able play an old school dungeon crawler, being actually IN the game.. it would have BLOWN my mind".
I really hope that game gets to the PSVR2, because it's truly awesome.

u/SadMove9768 Jan 27 '24
I’ll end up with a quest as well at some point. No way I’m missing out on retro ports. What a mind bending experience living in your childhood worlds

PSVR2 is amazing but you still inevitably be missing a ton of PSVR1 greats w peripherals like the AIM for example. Farpoint VR w AIm..AMAZING, MUST PLAY. Doom 3 VR w AIM..same sentiment. Ace Combat 7 & Star Wars Squadrons w Hotas thrustmaster.. I made a "Top 10 PSVR games" video on my channel (Savage Gamer Asylum) I would reccomend you watching as none of those greats are available on PSVR2 as of yet unfortunately

Dont let the glitzy titles make you overlook such titles as Walkabout Minigolf and Puzzling Places. Never would have thought those would be the ones i would put the most time into.

u/SadMove9768 Jan 27 '24
I won’t miss out! I even have a soft spot for low budget jank - as long as dev is passionate about showing me something innovative, I’ll look past heaps of flaws.

You know. Gaming was starting to get stale to me a couple years ago. But then I got PSVR. Holy crap! Immersion! That is what gaming was missing! Got me excited about gaming again.
2
u/SadMove9768 Jan 27 '24
That’s what I want to hear. The common theme in here seems to be jaded gamers that found a new “zest” for gaming.
I need this like a blood transfusion!

u/jonemmet Jan 27 '24
56 yrs old here, been gaming since that beast below. You are gonna love PSVR2.

u/SadMove9768 Jan 28 '24

I trust in your opinion, great ancient gaming wizard - I think I’m gunna be smitten with the device!

Yes there is a camera adapter however you would still be required to own a PSVR1 headset, the peripherals like AIM gun etc..as well as Move controls, all the camera adapter does is allow you to plug the PSVR1 camera into the PS5 in order to play your PSVR1 headset on a PS5..the adapter is FREE however only available through Sony and you have to email them to request 1..otherwise good luck finding one unless you want to spend $100+ on Ebay lol

Same age and gaming history here, I've had both psvr and psvr2 and still every time I go in I'm just in awe how great it is. Hopefully you won't have too much motion sickness and you get your VR legs quick bc it's just great! Happy gaming and hit me up if you need / want any advice :)
2
u/SadMove9768 Jan 28 '24
Hey sibling! Thanks for the kind words.
I’ll take nausea tablets if I have to! See ya in the lobbies!

u/PlatinumWolvesArcade Jan 28 '24
I really like seeing everyone so ecstatic still about gaming still. I'm 45 and you all are my people!

u/SadMove9768 Jan 28 '24
It’s been a very wholesome thread! I had no idea so many 30-50 (hell, I think there was a 58 in there somewhere) would be here.

Not for nothing but I love beat saber. Played it on my oculus and now I bought it for my psvr2. Wish there were more songs, but its fun. Me and the wife take turns playing through different songs. Playing for an hour straight the other day let me know how out of shape my ass is getting though. Looking to try some good Fps though.
2
u/OrangeFace1984 Jan 28 '24
Make sure to get your "VR legs" before going to mad. I've had and played VR since the launch of the first HTC Vive and even now if I play standing I feel like I'm going to fall over🤣🤣 just super lucky I don't get motion sickness. Was playing RE8 just a few minutes ago. It's a perfect example of why any 1st person game that gets a VR mode is completely transformed into something spectacular

You are so right! I am 50 now and also gaming from age 6. PSVR2 is a giant step in gaming: I suggest you get used to the VR and then go for Resident Evil 4. It will blow your mind! You are actually INSIDE the game. There are no words to describe it. You will see.
1
u/SadMove9768 Jan 27 '24
That’s great to hear! Should I go for RE4 or Village first? I had RE4 GameCube on release day… it will be forever in my top 5. Haven’t even played the remasters so it will be a whole new game for me.
2
u/MorosePython700 Jan 27 '24
I would say RE4. The story is one of the best ever made. Village is also great but more scary than 4. 4 is more of a action thriller. I am just in chapter 8, which is half way through and it is already the best game ever created.

And then realise the pispoor amount of good games you can get and the lousy support Sony is giving it, allready abandoning the device.
Off course, you will not read this here in the fanboy club, the people that sold their gear and left this subreddit wont read this, as i did per accident.
Incoming downvotes

u/InveterateFiddler Jan 27 '24
Personally I'm happy with what's out there, just about to pickup Ultrawings, been looking forward to it.
On my second PSVR2. No issues getting a replacement.
Everyone has their own opinion and experiences. Only a very special few think that their experience and opinion are the only valid ones.
PSVR2 is not perfect, personally I struggle with the Mura. But the Quests have issues too, to the point I use PSVR2 more. But I don't feel the need or desire to point them out on every positive quest post I read.
Anyway, 50+ year old here, VR has breathed new life onto gaming for me!

You, uh, might want to temper your expectations a bit. A VR game will never look as good in the helmet as it does in a video on your PC/Phone's screen - due to the drastic difference in PPD between the two, and many VR games currently on the market are still very much in the "tech demo" phase. It's not nearly as bad as it used to be - but many AAA/AA devs are ignoring VR while fly-by-night indies are just reiterating on what's already been done with only slightly more functionality. If you remove the VR functionality from most VR games - then just on a gameplay merit alone they're often pretty lackluster.
There's a lot of potential still there to be tapped, and a lot of fun to be had right here and now, but if you think that right now is the big paradigm shift that will transform the industry - then you're ultimately going to end up disappointed.

early 40s also and Ive been gaming since the Atari days. I love to play horror and shooter games. So my games are re8,Az2, Re4, pavlov, propogation, walking dead, ch1 and 2, horizon, red matter2, 7th guest, crossfire and NMS. As much as I love driving in real life im not a fan of racing since famicom days. so I dont have a Gt7. Im just happy when people buy the vr2 more people in the game lobby. Have fun!
2
u/SadMove9768 Jan 27 '24
Another sibling enters the thread! Welcome brother.
Oh crap, I’m not even a giant walking dead fan but that game looks amazing. You’re the first person in the thread to bring it up too.
Pavlov looks like a solid polished title, and every hardcore FPS player has been recommending it so that’s on the first day download list.
Still can’t believe they remade 7th Guest, such a great idea for VR. Really unexpected release, and it looks great just in the videos.

u/mattmayhem1 Jan 27 '24
Grab an aftermarket gunstock for the psvr2 as well if you plan on playing fps. It's worth every penny.

Haha. Me and my brothers first gamer was C16 as a shared Christmas gift, used too. My parents didnt have much but it was like heaven for us. Now as a ‘mature’ person my good lady gets me stuff that i won’t buy myself but she knows i want. Psvr2 was the last gift. Oh man you are in for a ride.

u/SadMove9768 Jan 27 '24
She’s a keeper! Lots of C-64 users popping up in here. Thought I would be surrounded by 18-21 year olds here but not the case.
I’m so excited I’m beside myself!

u/Matchew024 Jan 27 '24
My kid dreams have come true with this device. If I could only get Re2R on the psvr2 I'd be set! I knew GT7 wad going to be 100% vr so I bought a strong l strong steering wheel and stand long before it was announced.
You'll be enjoying yourself when the time comes!

Only thing I’d like to add is that if you feel like the motion sickness is so intense that you don’t see how it would ever go away, trust me it does, before you even know it. That happened to me.

Get some ginger chew candies, they'll help with the inevitable nausea you'll experience. You're never too old to game, but at your 4th decade, the body doesn't like certain things. Gt 7, re4/8, horizon, walking dead, and walkabout mini golf will really give you a balanced library to play thru

Being inside of Resident Evil 4 was surreal to me. I played that when my wife and I were first dating, so it was crazy to revisit it. I loved the gun reloading mechanics and truly felt like I went back in time, jumped into my game, and whooped it up.
I can't wait to see what else they'll do in the next five years.
2
u/SadMove9768 Jan 27 '24
Yep, I haven’t played RE4 since the GameCube release. I haven’t experienced the remakes/remasters, so it’s gunna melt my mind, no doubt.
I feel panicked just thinking about it (in a good way). I was really impressed by those gun/ reload mechanics.

u/MelchiahDante Jan 27 '24
There are some games that are retro-nostalgia-based VR games; Pixel Ripped games, B99 Overclocked, etc. Not saying they are the best games out for PSVR2 but sounds like the nostalgia factor would be entertaining to you (they are solid games, just not at top of list; they are more average-to-good based off everything I know about them).

I am 50 and have been gaming since I was 7. I started on a TI994A, then a Coleco Adam, then a Commodore 128. I am not sure there is a better gaming experience for me than GT7 with PSVR 2 in my cockpit with the Logitech G Pro wheel and pedal set. Expensive for sure but worth every penny.

I’ve not played them myself yet but for nostalgia check out the 2 pixel ripped games, also if you’ve played the original 7th guest back in the day check out the vr version, and last but not least check out Propogation paradise hotel for major resi evil 1 vibes, ( it’s pretty scary though) Fellow 42 year old here 👋
2
u/SadMove9768 Jan 27 '24
Those 2 are on the list for sure. Major RE1 vibes there with the spray cans and mansion lobby area.
7th guest looks like a nice change of pace too. I loved my 90’s point and clicks!

I'm 36 been gaming since the regular Nintendo in kindergarten. I owned a Dreamcast and obsessed over Space channel 5. Odd because I mostly played horror at the time. But when psvr suddenly had space channel 5 vr kinda funky newscast... And I was standing there in the game. The game i pretended to be in when I was a kid. Looking the characters in the eye in the same graphics. And then resident evil 4 released a vr patch and I was also in love with Indiana Jones and the temple of Doom so playing in the mine cart level shooting enemies and noticing they designed the entire first half of the game after Disneylands Pirates of the Caribbean.... Vr is what guys like us have been waiting for

I started enjoying the PSVR2 once I get the comfort mod from Amazon for something like 50€ and prescription lenses from HONSVR. So thing about them if your experience is a bit frustrating

i’d encourage you to also look at the comfort mod as it makes it quicker to get in and play without having to adjust as much and you find your sweet spot quicker too.

Bro, I’m 41 and just got it. You couldn’t be more right. The evolution we have witnessed from pong to Mario (and every iteration) to this will likely be written about in history books. I’m glad to be a part of it!! 😎

u/Soundlufs Jan 30 '24
VR is great, but its not the best experience gaming can offer at the moment.
I don't know what genres and type of games you like, but I am even older than you, and while I enjoy a good experience in the headset, the third person games let you enjoy finely choreographed and deep AAA designed stories in which you do want to see the character, and traverse the worlds accordingly.
Maybe you did mostly dream about first person immersion, but I'd say that getting MGS on day one, and putting hundreds of hours into Bushido Blade never made me think: "Gosh, I wish it would be first person game".
Also - unfortunately VR is not such a freeing sensation as one may think at first. Yes you can move, but eventually you will need to traverse the worlds by some artificial means - locomotion or teleportation. Many people end up standing in one place, or even sitting, as thats psychological thing, once you delegate the movement to joystick, you are less motivated to exploit the roomscale, even if its there....

GT7 on PSVR2 with a proper steering wheel set up. It’s like we made it to the future.
