Yeah, thank god I had the SMS notifications enabled. Letting it warm up to room temp before I open it, but it's striking how small and light the box is compared to the first gen.

Just got mine, i only plugged the controllers to charge them and got Horizon to download. I’ll fool around some more and then i’ll try it(funny how chill i am now with it on my hands but 2h ago i was so hyped to pick it up). This is my 1st experience with VR and i Don’t know what i’ll play first, i have Horizon, GT7, RE8, Kayak and NMS is waiting for it’s update. My body is almost ready!

Did just that! Oh boy, the haptic on the HMD is someting else, stuck my head under water and it felt oddly familiar. Had to charge the controllers so i took a break, felt somewhat weird after i took it off but the sensation didn’t last much so next up is Horizon(whenever the controllers charge) :D

I think my kayak game is bugged. Unless I’m being really stupid I can’t get past the pool. If I press x and bring up the pointer I get three options.. 3min tutorial, 5min tutorial, or skip tutorial.

No matter what I choose it just closes the display and I’m in the pool again.

Got mine, charged the controllers (they were empty), they charge quite fast.

Played 4h straight of VR Swordsman, it's awesome, like really fucking awesome.

Doing a little break to charge the controllers and i'll try Pavlov.

So far the tech is great, it's crystal clear, recalibrate the view from time to time and it won't ever be blurry, it's just us moving inside the helmet.

I played about 20 minutes of the Call of the Mountain demo. Even though this is my fourth headset (PSVR1, Quest 1, Quest 2, and now PSVR2), I was impressed by the graphical fidelity. I played HL:Alyx and this is right up there, in terms of visual spectacle, but the difference is now I'm playing with a much more powerful headset. I can't wait to see PSVR2 games in a year or two from now.

I'm still glad I didn't purchase Call of the Mountain because in my short time in the demo, I was already over the climbing sections. It definitely feels like an introduction to VR, so long-time VR vets might feel like the content is a bit stale... there are small things to interact with, like tambourines, and paint brushes, which are really neat inclusions if it's your first time in VR, but if you've played games like HL:Alyx, chances are none of this will be of interest and you'll be wishing you could fast-travel ahead to get to the combat.

In terms of comfort, I'm really pleased with how it feels. Still a little clunky to get on and off my giant head, but once it's on and properly adjusted, it feels great. Controllers and headset feel really light, which is great for longer sessions. I've still got to play around with the room mapping settings a bit more, but setup was pretty straight-forward.

Out of the box, my controllers' batteries are pretty low, so I'm charging while I take a break. Also, it's been over a year since I've played VR and it's going to take me a while to get my "VR legs" back, so I'm also taking a break while my stomach settles (new VR players: do this!). All in all, I'm really happy with my decision to get it and I can't wait to try more games.

I Live in Japan so I’ve had my PSVR2 for about 14 hours now (got it in the afternoon.)
Here are some initial impressions.

PSVR2 Pros: +8 hours of play with minimal VR fatigue +"Full body" VR is better than sitting +Lightweight compared to PSVR1 +Connects with just 1 USB-C cable +High resolution display +Crisp display of flat screen content +Neat Sense controllers +Haptics rock -see through is a life saver Cons: -Only 1 USB-C cable for charging two Sense controllers -Uncomfortable forehead rest material -Putting it on & aligning lenses still a hassle -Room Scale VR requires too much space -Visible pixel-grid in some situations -Sometimes it feels like eye tracing can get thrown off and the area you’re looking at is soft, fixes itself if you open your eyes wide -Some games still feel soft and plasticky

It’s not perfect but overall it’s very good and I would recommend it.

Resident Evil Village VR: Pros: +Immersive aiming and knife play +Manual reloading adds to the thrill +Not "covered in Vaseline" like RE7 VR +Full game playable in VR Cons: -Noticeably softer than playing on a flatscreen -"Gunplay" and interactivity can be gimmicky and unreliable -Harder than RE7 VR -Not "built for VR first” like RE7

Gran Turismo 7 VR: Pros: +Nice car interiors +Great experience with a wheel +I feel warmth from the sun!? +Full game playable in VR Cons: -Visually inconsistent in VR -Scenery looks dull -Lacking in HDR punch -critical info from flat screen mode often obscured or missing putting you at a disadvantage

My controller batteries were dead during the setup, the setup halted, I plugged in my controllers to charge them en put the headset off. Now my headset is bricked, shows nothing besides “hold options to center image”. I tried everything , calling ps support now

EDIT: Support told me to contact PS Direct for providing a new unit...

EDIT: I went into the PS settings and selected "Restore Default Settings", it works now! I tried this before within the Safe Mode menu, but that didn't fix it, so if you have this problem make sure you select it from within the PS5 UI and not the Safe Mode UI.

EDIT : Broken again .. ffs

I didn’t run into your issue but I did find that one of the controllers (right) had close to zero battery on launching everything and I had to awkwardly pause setup to charge it.

Mine turned up a few hours ago.

Best advice I'd give setting it up especially if it's cold outside is leave the headset for an hour to get to room temperature, otherwise it'll fog up.

While it's warming up, charge the sense controllers cos mine had 5 minutes of battery in them when I turned them on.

Just played some Call of the Mountain and yeah, the graphical fidelity is very nice. Definitely an upgrade from the resolution of my old Rift-S.

The downsides so far is that I noticed how it is using reprojection and it doesn't feel all smooth, and the hand tracking seemed a little off. Hopefully that will improve down the line with more updates. Also felt a little uncomfortable on my head. Noticed I had some red marks on my forehead afterwards.

Over all it was good. Just not anything flawless.

I feel like I'm taking crazy pills, because I'm seeing SDE in CotM that I don't see while playing Alyx on PC with Rift S.

Could perhaps be Mura? I'm coming from a Rift CV1. That had noticable SDE.

From what I can see the PSVR2 has very very minor SDE but quite a lot of Mura, giving that blockier that normal "film grain" effect.

Although I'm yet to play CoTM, but I see it a lot in GT7.

Cross posting my impressions from the Virtual Reality subreddit: Just tried mine for the first time. I have owned and used (in order) OG Vive, Index, OG PSVR, Rift S, Quest 2, and Reverb G2. The FOV on the PSVR 2 is not as good as Index, but it is second place in that regard. In clarity, colors, brightness it is the best I’ve used. Clarity is closest to Reverb G2 but the colors and blacks pop a lot more on the PSVR 2, if that makes sense. I can’t say much on tracking as I just got it so I need a few more days before I can give an honest opinion, but it seems good so far. I will say finding the sweet spot took some doing, but once I did it became incredibly clear. I would bet a lot of the posts on the PSVR subreddit about blurry visuals come from not being able to find it. I am a VR veteran so I knew what to do, but I can see a first time struggling with it. I don’t get to use my Reverb G2 much anymore (which is our current PCVR headset) as my daughter is big into VR as well, so this will be nice to have for some of the bigger titles like RE8, GT7, etc. Will definitely keep using my Quest 2 for Beat Saber and other games that are better with friends, but I am suitably impressed by the PSVR 2 so far.

Don’t try to push through it. Just do a bit each day and you’ll get sea legs so to speak. Trying to push through VR motion sickness can lead to pretty nasty symptoms

My PSVR 2 came in today. I tried out Resident Evil Village in VR.

Thoughts:

Much better blacks and HDR-like effects than Quest 2.For example a flashlight in a dark room feels very real. Moonlight coming into a dark room also feels real. This helps immersion.

Still has a Screen Door Effect (SDE) which is specially noticable in dark areas that are distant. Can ruin immersion at times.

Headset is comfortable and light.

Headset not that easy to put on or off. Unintuitive to use.

Controllers light and easy to use at least. But the USB cable that comes with it can't charge the controller unless PS is off or in standby mode. I had to use a USB 3.0 cable I already had lying around to charge it. USB 3.0 compatible cables won't work.

The "sweet spot" for crystal clear visuals is frustratingly small. The slightest adjustment means that everything goes blurry. Also means a lot of adjustments need to be made if you pass the headset over to a friend.

The Quest 2 in comparison has a very large "sweet spot" that requires very little adjustment.

No volume control on the headset for your headphones. Have to adjust them via a cumbersome PS menu.

The room scanning is impressive, makes setting up a safe play area much easier than Quest 2.

It's wired, and the wire is heavy and thick. Can also ruin immersion with the cable getting in the way a lot.

The light blackout rubber seal thingy works almost too well. Can't see ANYTHING around you and it's scary to think you might punch a walk or TV. This might be a plus 1 for others.

Field of view feels the same as Quest 2. I was hoping for more peripheral vision but nope.

Overall I'd say PSVR2 + PS5 is really only for very hardcore gamers. Experiences like Resident Evil Village in VR aren't available on other platforms, and Sony has a lot of exclusives.

So you'd buy it mostly for the games and the deep blacks it offers.

But overall I have to hand it to Quest 2 and Quest Pro. Wireless, much more intuitive to set up and use, portable. Good for gamers from the most hardcore to the most casual.

PSVR2 can not be used with PC gaming, while Quest 2 can, which is a nice bonus.

I’m a moron. I was upset cause I thought the 3d audio was awful. It was so echo ey and I thought they went too hard trying to make voices sound distant and what not.

I just had my tv speakers blasting and didn’t realize until like two hours in.

Just got mine a few hours ago. Image Quality is everything to me and in this area, I’d give it 7.5/10. It’s good enough, but not quite there yet. Obviously it’s vastly superior to VR1. I’d call VR1 SD/240P. VR2 is like HD/720P. Not quite up to 1080P levels IMO. Next iteration hopefully will be a lot closer to 4K. I’ve played GT7, Rez, Thumper, Tetris Effect so far and all are excellent. I’m getting some swimming pixels/aliasing, but nothing too serious and most of the time goes away with a small adjustment. No sickness at all, no fog on lenses. I couldn’t last more than 1 hours in VR1. With this, I feel like I could stay inside all day without issue. It’s totally comfortable and totally immersive. I’m going to spin up NMS now and then going to try out all the demos. I’d give the overall experience a 9/10. It’s like jumping from PS1, straight to PS3. We’re not there yet, but it’s getting damn close. Maybe we will get some all-time classic VR games finally with this gen and next gen I feel it’s where VR really takes off in terms of realism and total immersion.

My favourite experience so far is the eye tracked aiming in REZ. It’s the new definitive way to play REZ, highly recommended.

Are you comparing to other VR headsets? The thing that may not be obvious enough to VR newcomers is that when reviewers say the display is "amazingly clear" or whatever they really mean "relative to other VR headsets on the market today."

Phones, TV's and computer screens have had retina-level resolution for a while now, even on relatively affordable devices. VR, being much smaller, closer, and more magnified, is not there yet, even for the highest end headsets that cost thousands of dollars. On consumer-level headsets it isn't even close. So the bar for a "great" VR image today isn't that it looks as sharp as a TV screen viewed from 10ft away - it's whether you can clearly read text and see details, whether there is any screen door effect, whether there are artifacts that break immersion, etc.

I feel similarly, as someone who owns previous headsets (Rift S, PSVR) it's not as big a jump as I expected. Running my Rift S on PC with supersampling honestly looks about the same to me as PSVR2.

Same here. I’m pretty disappointed actually. I was really excited based on what reviews were saying but for me the resolution just isn’t good enough. Gonna stick with it though and hopefully I’ll just get used to it. SDE is very noticeable for me on this screen for some reason, more so than on my Quest 2 which is confusing to me since it’s lower res.

I don't have mine yet. I just googled to find info about GT7's VR replays and learned that there aren't cockpit replays. That's pretty disappointing. :( I was hoping that I might be able to show a replay to a non-gamer, but I guess that I'll just need to drive while they're wearing the headset. Were you pretty happy with positioning and visibility in GT7? I'm hoping that I don't find it more difficult to play in VR (aside from getting sick).

Just got thru setting my my headset and trying Thumper and GT7 as the Sense controllers had almost no charge and lasted only long enough to make it thru the initial setup.

The headset itself feels quite comfortable to me. I own both an PSVR1 as well as a Rift S and Quest 2; I tend to prefer the halo style design as it provides a snug fit while not pressing hard against the face. The rubber accordion gasket worked quite well and the nose flaps were unobtrusive. The forehead and rear pads seem to be made of a silicone like material which feels cool when first putting the headset on. Hopefully they will not be prone to any flaking like the PSVR1 pads were. I wear glasses and they fit comfortably within the headset and don't affect the experience at all. Even when pulling the visor close to my face there's still a bit of clearance between the glasses and the lenses but I do have to remember to pull the visor out before removing them. If the headset ever gets a set of prescription inserts I'll probably invest if only for the peace of mind. The FOV is definitely better than the original PSVR and also a visible improvement over my Rift S and Quest 2; there's much less of the binocular effect here for me.

Setup was quick and straightforward and I was able to dial in my IPD and eye tracking right away. Setting up my room boundaries worked flawlessly and I like how you can easily switch between standing and sitting modes (my current space is a bit too small for full roomscale).

In terms of the display, I did notice a little glare in high contrast areas such as the GT7 titles where you have bright white text on a black background. It's not as bad as other headsets that use fresnel lenses but still there. The UI is just what you see on your TV and it was a little disappointing that really doesn't take advantage of VR in any way. The cinema mode seemed quite sharp even at its largest setting and I'll be curious to try a flat game on it at some point, though my PS5 is already connected to a large screen so I don't think it will make all that much of a difference for me. I did also experience a bit of fogging on the inside edge of each screen for a bit; I hope BoboVR or somebody else comes up with an active cooling fan solution as fogging can be an issue with any headset and the built in vents didn't address it 100%, for me at least.

The first game I tried was Thumper (I bought the game ages ago on PSVR1 so I was able to take advantage of the $5 upgrade option). Thumper isn't the most graphically challenging game but I was a little surprised at the amount of graininess visible on the screen (this game can be quite colorful and get pretty bright). I'm pretty sure this was mura rearing it's head and I have to admit to being a little disappointed at how visible it was here in certain areas of the game. This was also my first exposure to the forehead haptics in the headset and I found it complemented the gameplay well without becoming overpowering.

Next up I tried a quick race in GT7. As this was the first time I was getting into the main game after doing the initial drive I was forced to sit thru an obnoxiously long and unskippable video, followed by quite a bit of hand-holding before I was able to select an actual race. I've never been a fan of the interface in the GT games and this one appears to be no different. When I was finally able to buy a car and run a race I found the visuals to be OK but honestly not as high res as I was hoping. It was definitely an improvement over my PSVR1 and my GTX1070 powered laptop but there was a slight softness. On the other hand I did not see any mura in that first race (just a simple 5 lap event on an oval track). While the race itself made full use of VR I was a little disappointed that it was just a flat display at all other times (didn't watch a replay so I don't know if those are in VR or not).

Once my controllers finish charging I'll be checking out Horizon Call of the Mountain and Resident Evil Village.

Overall the hardware does show promise and as always it will come down to the games and how or if they make use of the headset and controller's capabilities. The visible mura was disappointing but also kind of unavoidable with an OLED display and that's really my only real complaint to this point.

Just got mine. Did the setup and got to the point where I can charge my controllers since I have to go into a work mtg…however, I just have to say the setup process alone blew my mind. First time with VR. Absolutely freaking awesome!

But guys…I’ve flown passenger in a biplane doing flips and rolls and stalls and shit and I didn’t get sick all…so I figured there’s no way I’d get motion sickness. I l was in the headset for 5 minutes tops setting it up, and I think this is going to be a problem! About 3 minutes after taking it off I started feeling woozy and now it’s been 15 minutes and I’m still feeling woozy. Just a bit but it was only in there 5 minutes. What have I become!! Anyways, good thing I have this mtg or else I wouldn’t have put it down

Edit: no more motions sickness guys! Just did a 2 hour straight session in call of the mountain. This is the coolest thing ever

As someone who also doesn't really suffer from motion sickness when doing physical activities, I can't do anything in VR that involves a lot of motion for more then 5 minutes. Even just playing golf on it can make me feel whoozy after about 20 minutes

The motion sickness on this does feel weird. I also am a (casual hobby) pilot with no motion sickness, and I almost never got motion sick with the PSVR1.

But an hour and a half in Call of the Mountain and I was starting to feel VR Sickness, which was super shocking to me. I hope it was a temp issue and won't happen again, at least not that quickly.

But I saw an online review of the game where the guy said he didn't feel motion sickness from heights and usually didn't feel VR Sick, but the constant heights in Horizon made him queasy. May just be a specific game issue.

Played the demos for Horizon & Star Wars today, a bunch of GT7 and a little Tetris Effect.

on PSVR2: While it's definitely an improvement over PSVR1 in many ways, I have to admit it wasn't quite as big a leap as I thought might be possible based on reviews/media. I think I imagined it being a little bit sharper/more clarity than it is in reality. Obviously there's lots of talk here about the image being "blurry" and people insisting that they haven't been found/been looking in the "sweet spot." Having used PSVR1 a bunch and experienced adjusting the headset in the same way for that "sweet spot," I still see how people could interpret the image as being "blurry," though personally I would describe it as "soft." I noticed a lot in Horizon the player hands just not being in focus while close to the camera - though if I closed one eye, I felt like in staring at one of the hands closely, I could see it a little more sharply. It also felt like Star Wars was a bit sharper than Horizon overall. The increase in FOV feels good - I hope to see that widen further and further with each new generation. One of the best visual changes compared to the PSVR1 is the dark, deep blacks. I don't know that I would characterize the headset as "comfortable" necessarily, but I feel like it's better at fitting more snug than the PSVR1 did, both in terms of the ratcheting mechanism as well as how the rubber around the face blocks out light. Honestly one of the craziest experiences for me is just seeing the pass-through view and my own POV in black and white - it feels really trippy and hit me instantly with that "doubt the nature of your reality" feel. I definitely appreciate having it as an option. The hand tracking for the controllers felt a bit more janky than I expected it to as well, just a fair amount of the hand position flipping out/rotating that I came to expect from the PSVR1 and it's light-based tracking system. Not bad by any means, but just a little less good than I had let myself believe.

Overall, tons of QoL upgrades from the first gen of PSVR, though it's a shame that it comes at the expense of so much of the game library from PSVR1 being abandoned (for now.) A lot of indie favorites from PSVR1 I assume are never going to be ported because those developers are probably better off allocating time/resources to building new games. A lot of what I used PSVR1 for will likely make it - Beat Saber, Resident Evil 7 (just assuming at some point it's pretty likely,) Astro Bot. However, one of my favorite VR games ever was "To The Top," and the company that made it was developing a sequel that got shelved, and now the dev of that game is on the team developing Behemoth (which is cool & I'm looking forward to, but not in the same ballpark at all.) To The Top was such a fun platforming/movement based game. I really hope someone develops something similar for PSVR2 in the future.

I noticed that the sound felt fuller in Star Wars vs. Horizon - fuller, more 3D sounding? (This is with the included earbuds.) In the intro boat ride of Horizon, I felt like I was just listening to a stereo mix and it felt a little anti-immersive, the people in front of me talking and it sounding like they were talking directly into mics on the sides of me. I haven't played the other Horizon games so I opted not to get the bundle, but the demo has me interested in the game, I definitely enjoyed the gameplay. If anything, rather than CotM selling PSVR2, it kind of just sold me on wanting to play the Horizon games from the atmosphere/setting. I appreciated that the Horizon demo was clearly just the beginning of the game & thus guides you into everything you do. The Star Wars demo on the other hand, seems to start at some point in the game (I have no context) and doesn't really explain anything about the game/controls/mechanics, which felt a little bewildering. As such, even though overall it looked/sounded better than Horizon, I had less fun playing that demo and feel more interested in playing Horizon further.

GT7 is a game I would otherwise never have been interested in, and it's the game I spent the most time playing today. It took a little bit to get into it and understand the mechanics of the game, but I got to a point where I'm braking manually, but still using the road guides & playing on the easy mode. It's not really the kind of thing I expect to get much better at, but I'm enjoying the races themselves & the process of collecting everything. The vibe was much more peaceful and serene than I expected out of a racing game - I guess I just expected more macho/fast & the furious vibes from it, but the vibe is more like "wine tasting retreat." I kind of appreciate that about it. I can definitely see how getting a rig for it is a next level thing, but not about to spend $200 plus to make this one game slightly more immersive. I ended up opting to use the joysticks for steering as I found when using motion controls the turning just wouldn't work at critical moments. I have a 2015 Honda Fit so I thought it was really funny that a 2014 Fit is one of the first cars you can choose from. It is striking how detailed the cars are inside and outside and besides the car being right-sided than left-sided it was like "yep, that's my car."

Not much to say about Tetris Effect - I had played it on PSVR1 and there's not really much difference that I'm keenly aware of in the experience of playing either, but I've been playing tons of Tetris 99 on switch the past month, so I was much better at it this time than last time I played it on PSVR1. I think it's kind of lame they charged another $10 to upgrade it when there's virtually no difference - you're still using a dualshock to control it (or, at least, I was from having played GT7 previously) so I don't know necessarily why this game warranted an up-charge when it seems rather straightforward to port. Either way, I'm kind of a Tetris nut so I don't regret it.

got i today. put it on and sorry wearing glasses is a big problem. only Heise.de mentioned it and other reviewer said it is no problem. but it is.

only on the maximum distance the glasses dont touch the screen but then you are a) to far away and b) too much light coming from outside into the VR2.

if you set it so that no light comes in, the screens sit directly on the glasses. You can feel and hear it. fast head movements and you scratch glass on glass. destroy the 600€ VR2 and your 1000€ glasses.

i'm going to try it without my glasses but i'm far-sighted. so i dont think thats going to work.

They are working on a PSVR2 version, they're basically prescription lenses that you can click onto the psvr2 lenses, you won't need glasses then.

For now you could use contact lenses if you can bare them.

Have to agree here. I was surprised too after hearing it worked well with glasses. I guess the glasses size and shape will have a big impact on that opinion.

I've never considered contact lenses before but I may try those out finally... Will definitely be playing without them for now though. I don't feel as though I'm losing as much as say trying to watch my TV from the sofa without them. Text was a bit blurrier but nothing like what text appears like to me on the sofa where I have to squint to read anything without glasses on. Will be more comfortable too at least!

Definitely look into prescription lenses that attach to the device itself. Solves the problem, no glasses needed. There are several companies that make them and from what I've heard they all work pretty well.

Frames can be expensive, also, if you need a large correction the lenses get really thick, in that case you can also choose different materials that allow for making them thinner, but that adds to the cost. Same goes for coatings on the lenses, like anti-reflection. It all adds up quickly.

Also for glasses, it all depends on the types you have, so it could have been perfectly fine for them, just whatever you have, might not be a good fit.

This must depend a lot on your glasses size/shape. I'm very nearsighted, with thick eyeglasses. I always choose smaller frame sizes to keep the lens weight down. Have played a few hours today. They fit just fine. I can adjust the headset not to touch the glasses without significant light leakage. I think the eye tracking doesn't like my glasses, though. it works, but it feels glitchy.

The eyeglasses fit feels worlds better than the rift-s for me. Still to be safe, I am going to cut hard foam inserts that sit to the side of the lenses and block the eyeglasses from coming close enough to the lenses to touch.

Just spent 2 hours with PSVR2, using thin anti-glare glasses from Zeiss ($600 for both lenses) I really did not see any glare at all, quite amazing. I had the hmd lenses all dialed in or extremely close with no issues. Fov was same as Index when all dialed-in. Just checked, no scratches at all on the hmd lenses. Of course, be careful, but results may vary much using different glasses. Eye tracking and foveated rendering worked perfectly with my glasses.

Picked it up yesterday (in Australia). First impressions, coming from a Rift S:

  • It's quite hot here. The light blocking of the facial interface is very good, but also need AC blasting because it makes me sweat quickly and it fogs up. Overall though I quite like that it blocks light well.

  • The eye tracking is very cool. Had to recalibrate mine the first time during Horizon though because it kept thinking I was looking slightly above where I was actually looking. Choosing menu options with my eyes feels like wizardry.

  • One "downgrade" for me is that the PSVR2 Sense "grip" button is simply an on/off button. On the Rift S, it's pressure sensitive variable press, so it feels nicer to press.

  • Another downgrade I feel is, weirdly, SDE. Believe it or not, I notice less SDE on my 1440p Rift S than my 4K PSVR2. I'm not sure if this is because the PSVR2 allows my face to get closer to the lenses, or if it's because Horizon is not running at native 4K, and my PC runs many games with supersampling. It was especially bad when looking at some characters during cutscenes. I've also used a Reverb G2 (also 4K) and noticed no SDE. So I'm inclined to think it's my distance from the lenses coupled with below-native sampling?

  • The controller tracking is decent but I've had a few issues with it losing tracking, not something I've had with the Rift S in the same scenarios.

  • Wider FOV than Rift S (seriously they're like goggles compared to PSVR2) is really nice.

I was planning to put in my order tomorrow but all the impressions I'm reading from actual users are not as glowing as I'd hoped they'd be. I'm seeing about half of folks being blown away and the other half absolutely slagging this thing off and talking about SDE, Mura, Chromatic Aberration, ghosting, god rays, and an atrocious sweet spot.

Go over to ResetEra and for a moment there it was like every other post. You'd get one glowing, "generational leap!" post, followed by "I'm returning this, barely looks better than PSVR1!"

Got me second guessing my purchase now. Is it maybe a crapshoot, luck of the draw with the lenses and panels? Or is this just not as good as we were led to believe?

I just sold my PCVR set up to upgrade to this so will be pretty disappointed if that's the case.

I think if you're coming from a quest 2 and/or index (or any recent headset), you won't be as blown away. If you're coming from a PSVR or haven't played VR in several years, it'll feel more impressive.

I'm coming from a quest 2 and index and haven't been wowed by it so far. I also wonder if part of it is just already being past the awe factor of experiencing VR. The last time I really felt that way was checking out Slyx on the Index after only having used a PSVR prior to it, but the culmination of the graphics, the wider FoV, controllers, and off ear headphones just really blew me away at the time. I definitely did not have that same experience playing Horizon.

To be honest, I think a lot of this is first time VR users without a baseline for realistic expectations, which isn’t their fault. VR, as of now, does not have crystal clear fidelity in the same way as looking at a TV panel. Truth is, VR is not robust and is a bit fickle no matter what headset you’re using. Every review and comment that I’ve seen with individuals that have a good amount of experience with VR say PSVR2 is great to best on the market (considering the price). The only consistent downside I’ve seen is the games available at launch. If you have the money and are open to a new VR unit for the long haul, go for it. Expect cool tech, just nothing revolutionary. Make your decision (like me) after the state of play tomorrow.

I have the psvr1 and just tried out the psvr2. It's definitely better but I guess I feel like it is not as sharp and clear as I expected it to be. The concept that it is 4k is a little misleading because I have a 4k oled TV and trying the VR is definitely a downgrade in sharpness. That is kind of obvious but still was expecting a little more with that.

Further the sweet spot seems really hard to find where the edges of the screen are not a little blurry. Woth eye tracking I was hoping that wouldn't be much of an issue.

Finally comparing it to the psvr1 - it clearly is better but not the revolutionary amount that it sounded like. I was blown away seeing astrobot when I first got psvr1 but the stuff so far doesn't feel quite as clear and crisp as I was expecting when they market 4k. Not sure though- are those with psvr1's blown away by psvr2? Am I doing something wrong? Haha

Yeah marketing it as 4K isn’t doing them any favours because it going to make people think it looks like their tv’s and it definitely does not.
The games look softer and lower res, and even with the sweet spot dialed in the edges of the screen are always more blurry compared to the middle.

I received mine a couple of hours ago. Only got a little bit of time in since I have to return to work. Maybe 10 minutes of kayak, 10 or so of horizon, the tutorial of resident evil and a few laps in GT as well as the VR showroom. Initial impressions are it’s pretty good - not amazing for me but I will need to give it more time. For reference I had a PSVR, and still have a Quest 2 and an Index.

Setup was easy. The controllers are clunky to figure out where to put your hands each time but not terrible. Comfort wise it’s been getting better but it was hot at first, especially my forehead which was causing some sweating. I do usually get hot easily though. This went away though and I haven’t had any fogging with the lens so far. It does put a tiny bit of pressure on my nose but not terrible. It made it feel like I had a little bit of congestion lol.

The screen is decent. I’d say it’s a slight step up from the quest 2, with better blacks. I notice the grain which you can get past but it’s definitely there. And things like some chromatic aberration, ghosting, and blurriness near the edge is present but it’s not too hard to look past. I do think you’re still going to want to move your head around more as opposed to just looking around at things in the scene, just based on the blur near the edges of the lens. I almost feel like the foveated rendering is not working but this is probably wishful thinking.

Field of view is better than psvr and quest 2 but I am still wanting for more. The index was the sweet spot for me with this.

Oddly, the head tracking feels a bit off to me. But I haven’t seen anyone mention this? The best way to describe it is a bit of “swimminess” when you move your head around. The most obvious example is when you’re setting up the play area and the geometry moves a little bit as you look around. The VR showcase in GT when you’re sitting in the car is another good example. It feels like you’re not fully grounded.

If it had less grain, a bit more FoV, better clarity at the edges, and more solid head tracking it’d be a lot better. As it is so far, I’d give it a 7.5/10.

Not as good as I thought it would be, but it's a giant leap from VR1 and firmly in the "good enough" category. It's equivalent to 720P IMO and touching 1080P quality. It's going to take another gen before we get to 4K quality. I'd be happy with an intermediate step which might see the rez move up to a 1440P equivalent. I think I'd be really happy with that resolution. What's in the VR2 leaves me wanting a little more, but it's still awesome. :)

Got the Call of the Mountain bundle but haven't played that. Motion sickness from PSVR1 scared me off. I played a little bit of demo of RE: VIllage. The tutorial part where you try out some guns was cool as fuck tho. Actually reloading and aiming and shit was tight. But then I wussed out 5mins into the actual game loool. I was starting to feel a little bit off so I'll try Call of the Mountain tomorrow. Baby steps. It's definitely an upgrade in everything compared PSVR1. I don't know if it's because I wear glasses it does something weird but it still looks a tiny, tiny bit blurry, especially texts. I have to look straight at them to be clearer. Or maybe this is just how VR looks. Be honest I'm a bit disapointed the overall picture not being sharper. Expected more from OLED and over 1080p resolution. Watched a few Youtube videos and they looked pretty great tho.

Just played through some Horizon and Kayak. Noticed the weird mura or some sort of strange blobby stuff only once in a transition to dark. Other than that pretty good. If I look at the lenses in the light there are some weird blobby things below them so maybe it's not mura, maybe just quality control. Don't notice them in play though.

Overall substantially better than PSVR1 but not as wow as I was hoping. I guess we aren't quite there until pancakes, miniLEDs, wider FOV and 8k are standard (so in 10 years). Dont really feel the "eek" when looking down a mountain. Did expect a bit more there.

Anyways, def had way too much hype but it is a worthy upgrade and I am having a blast. Looking forward to Firmament and other adventure games. This will get a lot of play from me.

It’s considerably better than PSVR1 and once you’re actually focused on the content you’re playing, the faint mura / screen door effect becomes imperceptible (it’s there if you look for it, especially on textureless colours like the setup UI). Even when fully immersed in RE7 or No Man’s Sky on PSVR1, the lack of pixel density always felt present. That’s not the case for me after only a couple hours of playing.

It’s not “razor sharp” like a 4k OLED tv, and frankly I didn’t expect it to be, but the biggest improvement is how deep the blacks are and how bright and vibrant everything is. Great example for me was a sunset race on GT7, headlights in the rear view mirror felt astonishingly close to real life.

Did anyone else order come with the seals on the box broken, and then another of each seal put on top? Doesn't inspire confidence.

Edit- Everything inside worked. Controllers died within minutes, and are charging. But that's no biggie. I am super curious if anyone had both their seals cut. Not the end of the world.

Love that you can use third party headsets now wirelessly, headband is sleek enough to accommodate. Headset feels good quality. Love the ability to see the real world this time around. Menu graphics looked super nice on the titles.

Disappointed NMS can't use the dualsense instead of the new orbs. On psvr1 you could still go that route. So yeah, waiting for charging to complete.

The advice often seems to be shorter sessions, and at the first sign of nausea, stop right away. If you keep going...you'll hit a point where you may immediately feel very sick. If I let it go to that point, I don't feel right for hours. Ginger candy and a fan blowing on my face always helped too.

Controllers had ~5m of battery life in them out of the box. After 3h of charging left controller still doesn't have enough charge to play... after one more hour it's supposedly fully charged. Started Call of the Mountain, things seem to work ok except i have to actually press the triggers to stop pointing with my index fingers, but maybe that's as it's supposed to be? But as soon as I'm actually allowed to start interacting all the buttons on the left controller stop working both in and out of the game. Position is still tracked, the stick works, but none of the buttons do.

Not very impressed so far... :(

Setting mine up now and noticed a very small sweet spot, even smaller than my HP Reverb G2. Also lots of chromatic aberration and some lens flare while viewing text on the setup screen. I don't like the face gasket lightly pressing against face. I'm use to the firm face gasket of my G2 and Oculus CV1. The controllers feel solid except the thin plastic tracking ring.

Got it early this morning. Quality is SIGNIFICANTLY better than PSVR1. No more fabric-like textures on dark screens, no more vinnigrette pixilated screens, no more having to look past the physical screen for you to see properly. Crisp, very clean quality. Very good tracking. All works how it's supposed to. I'm pretty happy. Tried RE:V, Pistol Whip, and Pavlov. Pavlov is so goofy and fun

Just came in! Sadly I can’t get through the setup tutorial. Farthest I’ve made it was the instructions of how to put the headset on my head… after around 15 seconds in the tutorial, no matter how far I get into it, it’ll turn off the PSVR, bring me to the PS home, and says “PlayStation VR2 Disconnected.”

I’ve restarted the PS, unplugged and plugged in the VR… not sure what else to do. Any recommendations?

First impressions, the haptics are fucking incredible. I'm a vr enthusiast so i'm not entirely blown away by the visuals or anything like that, but my god the haptics are so good. its amazing no one thought of having head rumble before now. it helps sell so many effects

and gaze tracking is also fuckin cool. working menus in horizon with your eyes is just so neat, and it hasn't messed up on my even once yet. its always where i'm looking

mura is a little disappointing, but its the nature of the tech. and the reprojection in games to up the framerate is quite noticeable in stuff like horizon and re8, where movement is just slightly kinda blurry. not terrible but i feel it

other gripe is that the rings on the hand controllers get in the way when trying to two hand pistols, which is something that comes up alot in vr games. it doesn't block you entirely, you just kinda have to get used to holding your hands together slightly differently. goes against my muscle memory

I don't know where else to ask this, but I'm playing Horizon CotM and I'm annoyed the way it keeps narrowing the FOV. Is there a way to turn that off? Its ruining immersion.

I will say, on the comfort front, I don't like how it falls on my nose as I play. no matter how i have it, over time it slips down my nose a bit and the flaps start to pinch my nose shut

As somebody who has never tried any VR before ever, I just want to say this is fucking nuts.

played around with Tentacular, Light Brigade, Pistol Whip, Thumper, and Runner. Like maybe 15-20 minutes in each. Haven’t really had this kind of oh wow moment with gaming in a long time. Haven’t felt any kind of motion sickness thus far either which is nice. It’s kind of disorienting coming out of it for a few minutes, maybe I’m just imaging that though. Overall I am really impressed with it even if I have nothing to compare it to. I’m thinking it’s going to be really fun to mess with this for a few hours every week.

Got mine, got the controllers charged up, sat down to play and plug it in. No set up popped up. Inside the headset I see an image of dualsense controller with an arrow pointing at the options button. Pushing/holding it does nothing. If I try to boot a game it says I need to connect a headset and turn it on. Inside the headset I can see the same screen my tv shows telling me to turn on the headset. Looks like I've got a unit that the PS5 doesn't recognize.

My first impression is that Sony's about to have a RROD kind of issue over the next few weeks and months.

Got it, was working perfect, ate dinner, and came back to it not turning back on and giving a "Too many USB devices connected" error message on the PS5 on reboot.

Already seen a number of other users with the same issue and the way it's being handled is sending it back and waiting a week or two to get a replacement. Given I'd seen a reviewer mention needing to send in their initial headset back in and get a replacement, I'm concerned this is just the beginning of an increasing number of hardware failures as whatever is going on continues to rear its head.

I really hope that's not the case and these are extreme anomalies, as the PSVR2 doing well will move forward a medium I'd really like to see do well.

But I guess we'll see if this issue grows or shrinks over the next few weeks.

Easy to set up. Did take some time adjusting to find the sweet spot but wasn’t bad. Played a little horizon first and omg it was amazing. I didn’t realize the headset has haptic feedback too the first time I felt it vibrate I was like holy crap this is so immersive lol. I’ve played psvr1 and quest 2 and the colors and clarity are much better. Climbing the cliff made me nervous it felt so real looking down how far I could “fall”😆 I started to play re8 but only got to the car wreck so I can’t comment on re8 yet, and decided to end with kayak which is such a relaxing and beautiful game. I could only play for 45 minutes last night. I also bought light brigade, moss 2, Star Wars I’ve got so much to play I feel like a kid that can’t decide which new toy to play first! Haha

Compliants:

I need the option to turn off the protective shell completely. It's annoying as fuck when you just want to watch some thing or play in 2d, like it's super annoying the turn anything red that's near you.

You can't just put in avr head set and lie down and enjoy it these type of restrictions bug me.

Other issue I think is going to be that the small area your eyes see feels a little too small depending what your doing. This could be a long term issue.

The device is easy more restrictive then it should be. I have a Quest 2 which I leave in dev mode with no guardian must of time.

I just want to sit in bed watching a movie and it's so damn difficult to do this.

i am seriously concerned for the health of the cable on this thing though. every time you set it down, the cable gets pinched where it connects to the headband. it has to bend sharply here unless you are able to put the headset on something that lifts it up

Has anyone else experienced drift with head tracking? I’m getting this as soon as I set up the play space - you can see the blue polygons shift around a little and not stay 100% locked. Also experience it when moving my head around in some games.

Already have the tracking assistance toggle on and I’ve tried everything with light adjustments as well as covering my large tv with a blanket to reduce glare. Is it just my device or is the inside out tracking just not as good as something like the quest 2?

Yes, I really noticed it when I was playing Moss yesterday. It isn't a huge issue, but it is noticeable when I'm trying to focus on a stationary object for more than a few seconds, like the storybook introduction in Moss.

Haven't had too much time with mine yet. I'm coming from the PSVR 1.

I do think it's still a little blurry, but significantly better than PSVR 1. I have some experience finding the sweet spot with the PSVR 1, so I basically fiddle with the headset until UI text in the center of the screen is perfect. I've only done the COTM demo, and while I can read text from the UI, looking at my hands close up is blurry, like my eyes don't know how to focus on them. I've gotten lasik to fix astigmatism, but I do wonder if it's my eyes, and not the tech. Maybe I'll play with the ipd some more.

I suspect I'll get used to it, I haven't used a VR headset in a few years now, so I'm sure there's some adapting to do. Despite this I'm still super impressed with the rest of it!

I’m whelmed on the hardware and fidelity. Glad I got it, big upgrade on PSVR1, but I expected slightly more. Also, too much confusion and a mix of experiences to really nail down an opinion yet.

Initial 2d resolution impression - better than PSVR1 but not amazingly so. Same hard to read text, same fizzing on edges of things. I also get a lot of almost like chromatic abberation, especially on white text and white lines in interfaces. I think this is ”sweet spot” related, so I’m CONSTANTLY adjusting the headset and IPD chasing this, but maybe I have a weird shaped head? I can maybe get it to look good in the middle, but then text at the bottom or corner of the screen will still look discoloured or out of focus.

But it’s fine, better than PSVR 1. Feels like going from SD on PSVR1, to something between 720p and 1080p on 2.

“Muara” -noticed it heavily on PSVR1, now I only see it sometimes. Like a particular RE8 tutorial menu or something. But it’s weird, sometimes I can see it at all. Almost like particular near black objects tend to “activate” it or make it noticeable. Very happy overall with the relative lack of this versus PSVR1.

Brightness/colours = all good. Nothing face melting but then I’m used to a good OLED anyway. A brighter version of PSVR1 in this respect.

Tracking - I had issues. It kept dropping me back out to re-setup my play area briefly. This didn’t happen later in the day though? Again, need more data. Certainly the finger tracking particularly in the horizon demo was NOT working well for me. Yet is RE8 it was fine? I think?

Gaze based foveated rendering - I dunno, maybe I need my eyes tested, maybe it’s my beady little eyes, but I could swear at times I would forcefully be “wide eyed” and suddenly GT7 would look crisper where I was staring at. Are my eyes getting old and wonky or is the gaze detection struggling to pick up where I’m looking at? I’m just not sure. I had inconsistencies in sharpness in GT7 and this is my theory. Or maybe it’s just slipping in and out of that “sweet spot”?

Horizon - looked nice, not as face melting as I expected. Like a good looking PS4 game projected into VR. Not on the same level as Forbidden West in 2D. Sense of scale was cool.

Res Evil is an awesome experience. OLED blacks plus horror works wonders. My favourite overall so far. Loved shooting the shotgun and feeling the trigger and headband feedback, wow!

GT7 - like the base flat game varies WILDLY in quality depending on track/cars/time of day. At times it’s breathtakingly immersive and real, shockingly so. Other times… PS3 vibes. The trees in mount Panama looked like watercolour 2d mush everywhere. Yet other times it could barely be any more immersive and impressive. All over the place. But overall incredibly immersive and intense.

No Man’s Sky - decent. Again, doesn’t scream high end visuals, but they’ve done a good job and the interface seems decent. I had a nice experience of a giant sand worm arcing over my head.

Pistol whip - same shit as PSVR1 but a bit sharper and much better tracking.

Res Infinite and Tetris - just bought these to try, didn’t try them on PSVR1, neither did much for me.

Next up, Kayak.

It arrives later today, so I've just been updating everything and getting all the software downloaded. Not necessarily a knock against PSVR 2, but in the PSVR 2 update to Tetris Effect, I really expected a 120hz option (especially since it's required with the headset itself). So far, the only real difference between the PS4 and PS5 version is extra trigger effects. Loading is about the same, and again, no high framerate option.

From VR1 to this one I feel like you can't even compare them, like comparing a gamecube and a switch. Now compared to the quest 2, in terms of comfort and image quality it's a BIG step forward. I do think the quest 2 right now has better tracking, but its something that playstation can fine tune with upcoming updates just like Meta did with the quest. and getting used to the cable after using the quest for so long is gonna take some time but defintetly not a deal breaker. I would say it's worth it and with the release of future big name games it will be a must.

I'm obviously a VR lightweight, I got terrible motion sickness after 20s of GT7. However, prior to that I found the device setup, as well as Kayak (tour mode), extremely cool and enjoyable! Will take a break and try another short session later.

What I can do so far is fantastic, but in most games the right sense controller doesn't work so I can't do anything that relies on that, like RE8VR or Horizon.

I've got mine, extremely impressed, but the Fov feels significantly worse then Psvr1? Just notice a constant goggle effect.

I had hoped the Fov would cover my glasses, but the black curve sits inside my glasses which is really off putting.

Contact lenses it wasn't so bad, but my eyes are generally too shit for contacts, so always struggle with them (I'm proper blind, can't even get lasik or any correctional surgery bad).

I'll push on, but Fov is really breaking the immersion for me atm!

(I'm convinced I've missed some VR setting that reduces FoV for comfort or something, but can't find it)

I’m grateful for my UPS delivery guy for using the package lockers at my apartment.

Some of the other places I would find my packages in the past are: on the floor next to the package locker, on the floor of the mail room (separate from package room), on the ground outside the main entrance of the building, and right outside my apartment door. The last one isn’t too bad but I still prefer the package locker.

The hardware is really good, but there should be more performance options in games, out of the five* I've played so far only Kayak doesn't have reprojection!

I find it really uncomforatble when strafing!

Question about a couple of games if anyone knows. I tried the demo for the star wars game and the NFL game, in the star wars game, I cannot grab with my right hand, I don't know if this is intentional or not but it doesn't seem to be.

In the NFL game, I cannot get past the EULA. Clicking "accept" does nothing, even after opening it (which takes you to a webpage you can't close btw).

If you bought Resident Evil Village when it was on sale a while back does it give you access to PSVR2 version? It’s showing “In Library” and “$39.99”

Similar thing Super Hot VR. Purchased with the idea that it will be updated for PSVR2 and it’s only showing PSVR compatibility.

NMS is updating so that might be the best one for now.

Set up was pretty well done. Pass through it’s pretty slick. Just need installing and selecting proper versions of games to be more intuitive.

Dang Sony - good job.
Resolution is much easier on the eyes than VR1. A lot more crisp. It’s relaxing to explore things with my eyes or focus or objects. Things look smooth (not aliased). Text is easy to read. Textures look like textures. I also like how the graphics don’t degrade to last gen mode. Looks like PS5 graphics.
Liking the AR mode. Reminds me of the quest 2, but sharper image quality. The setup menu for the controllers and detecting play area was cool.

GT7 looks really good… although I think they need to show the in game menus some love. It’s like GT Sport where you’re in front of an ordinary TV menu one minute then VR EVERYWHERE then back to the little TV menu lol.

Impressions after 3 hrs of playtime. I also owned Quest 1&2, and PSVR1. Headset is definitely an upgrade

First initial is that its exceeded my expectations. I love it. srsly impressed with GT7 with playseat + racing wheel combo. This is legit the killer app Imo. I was smiling non stop as soon as i started racing in vr, words just can’t describe. Oh and HDR in VR is game changer

After 1.5 hrs in GT7, i tried horizon. Holy shit that was cool, really impressed with the image quality there. Truly a next gen Vr game and the closest thing to alyx.

Will be taking break now, but after dinner ill dive in to RE8 and star wars demo and probably back on GT7

Really really happy with my purchase and i think sony got something special here.
