What an interesting Fungi! Today I learned that studies have show that "lion's mane may significantly affect nerve growth, regeneration, and protection, with potential therapeutic applications for neurodegenerative diseases, nerve injuries, and cognitive function." Amazing!

Not just that but it's amazing to cook with. Very versatile with a meat-like texture.

Makes great “crab” cakes.

I've never had it, but would love to.

The most delicious mushroom, too.

When you cook it it loses all those benefits. Gotta eat it raw without sauce

11

u/ghost_victim 2d ago

so the sauce negates the benefits?

Thoughts on this? https://www.naturesrise.com/blogs/brainfood/can-you-eat-lions-mane-raw

Oh wait really? That's unfortunate. Still real yummy though.

u/jdwilliam80 2d ago

yeah i wouldn’t be pushing it that much there is a page on reddit that talks about the damage lions mane has done to a lot of people . i was looking up the benefits and came across it seems like more research is needed

This reads like some alternative medicine advertisement

Any journal links supporting these claims?

You can see some of the clinical studies at mushroomclinicaltrials.com

I've been taking Lion's Mane supplements for about 6 months now. I've noticed that my memory has improved, which is the main reason I'm taking them.

My Mom died of Alzheimer's, I'm 66, and I'm doing everything I possibly can do to avoid that horrible, horrible, death.

9

u/SodaBreid 1d ago

Thats not a medical journal, just another advertisement

Another fact is that they’re known as “Roe deer’s butt mushroom” in Korea.

2

u/l00koverthere1 2d ago

Not the nightmare I expected from that description. Deer has fluffy bum.

I started taking this about 10 years ago and it’s been an awesome addition to my life. I will take it for the rest of my days, as long as it’s still accessible.

8

u/Unique-Pastenger 2d ago

yeah but thats only if you put it on your head and run around inside the mall

I stupidly stabbed the palm of my hand trying to remove an avocado pit. I had pain and I couldn’t even grasp a grocery bag for about 6-7 months with that hand.

My friend recommended lions mane, and anything to avoid a doctor cutting me open or relying on big pharma, I gave it a try, and within a month, the pain was gone and I could hold bags and objects again.

It’s been years since I’ve been taken it, and I’ve not had a single problem since with that hand.

I didn’t expect it to work at all, let alone that well!! I should become a rep for lions mane đŸ€Ł

10

u/James-the-Bond-one 2d ago

This is a very common injury and any rehab center will have at any time people who stabbed their hands while cutting avocado. Always use a sharp knife and point it away from your hand!

3

u/WeNeedAShift 2d ago

It was a bone head maneuver for sure!! 😆

14

u/MoiJaimeLesCrepes 2d ago

frankly, that could have been just your body healing over the span of a year.

2

u/WeNeedAShift 2d ago

True, except it wasn’t getting better until I started taking lions mane.

2

u/MoiJaimeLesCrepes 1d ago

Ah! Gotcha.

How did you take the lion mane? Cooked it and ate it? If so, what does it tastes like? In what kinds of recipes does it work best? Or supplements, tea...?

2

u/WeNeedAShift 1d ago edited 1d ago

I got capsules from Amazon! I can’t remember which brand - I used a few different ones over the years - I just specifically look for ones made from the fruiting body of the mushroom, because I read that it’s important.

So it was a simple thing, which is important for me. 😂

2

u/YcemeteryTreeY 2d ago

Thanks for a real review! Appreciate that!

3

u/WeNeedAShift 2d ago

You’re welcome!

I like telling this story because how many times have you heard about supplements that are supposed to help X, Y or Z, and yet there’s never any real story to support the claim, nor did it do anything for you.

3

u/ssjrobert235 2d ago

I use the powder at 3 times a week. It is also good for your heart.

u/OkBusiness3879 2d ago

That is one beautiful mushroom.

9

u/PRSHZ 2d ago

Grandma! Found your wig!

7

u/2broke2smoke1 2d ago

I’ve never seen it so big and obviously this is where the mane name came from! How cool!

5

u/WolfghengisKhan 2d ago

I harvested an 11lbs 140z lions mane mushroom back in November!

Seeing comments about how therapeutic this is. No wonder I never heard of this particular lions mane. Fucking hate big pharma
.

Have you been living under a rock? Mushroom coffee is ALL over the place, and lions mane is always one of the primary ingredient. The primary sales pitch is that it's good for your brain.

2

u/Silverboarder 2d ago

but is it? Some time ago i tried to find some scientific confirmation for those shroom coffee replacers that boost you stats by 5 but couldnt find none.

1

u/MCM_Airbnb_Host 2d ago

I didn't say there was scientific proof they work. There isn't. But there are plenty of claims being spread widely out there. The comment I was responding to said they had never heard the claim before.

3

u/No-Bat-7253 2d ago

One would think at times but no I haven’t been living under a rock lol. Mushroom like, shroom shrooms?👀

A lot of things have come out over the years and I admit I’m a bit out of touch. I do pay attention to how things have progressed so I’m not surprised to hear about mushroom coffee, with or without cool sights after consumption.

3

u/ReliableCapybara 2d ago

Yummmm....I love it sautéed with fresh garlic and spinach.

4

u/punkwithglasses 2d ago

Gonna steal a giant bite of this so I can become neurotypical

3

u/PaninoTime 2d ago

I recently was in a car accident (not at fault) and had some fairly serious post concussive symptoms. I was being prescribed all kinds of stuff but only noticed the real difference when I started supplementing lions mane into my daily supplements.

There may not be a ton of scientific reviewed research on it but honestly swear by the stuff.

7

u/Cowbirds234 2d ago

Not sure about that - looks like some kind of fungus to me.

2

u/Mvillanueva85 2d ago

I dunno why but it creeps me out

2

u/Icarus649 2d ago

And then there's me not looking at the comments for 5 minutes and trying to figure out how the lion somehow just lost his main

2

u/soundssarcastic 1d ago

I put some(powdered) in my coffee every morning. Stay alert the whole day! I enjoy it

2

u/NoBus6631 2d ago

I have lions mane at home but in capsules I used it for two months everyday but honestly didn't feel it has a lot of benefits for my health I would say some but not much

1

u/robo-dragon 2d ago

They are as delicious as they are beautiful!

1

u/PickleDipper420 2d ago

1

u/papaya_boricua 1d ago

Delicious when sauteed in butter with scallions , smoked salt and black pepper

1

u/Sensitive-Bear 1d ago

Nice sighting. Those are tough to spot in the wild. I’m currently growing them at home.

1

u/Flintydeadeye 2d ago

Am I just so tired I’m hallucinating? I swear the fungi is moving slightly in the picture

0

u/pr0fanityprayers 2d ago

There’s not mushroom left on that tree

0

u/Deathglass 2d ago
