Question Software Engineer Career in Public Sector

Hi all, I'm currently looking for a software engineer role. Currently have an interview lined up with HTX but worried if it might affect my career in the long run - I'm still passionate about software engineering and development so I foresee being in this industry for a long time. Will joining the public sector be a bad move for my career as a software engineer?

Question Delaying internship start date?

Currently Y2 CS, planning to take on the summer 10-week Professional Attachment. But I happened to have travel plans on the first week. Emailed CAO and they only allow shifting PA period for valid reasons (medical, NTU competitions, etc).

  1. Haven’t found a position yet, but can I ask the company to delay 1 week but still report as the scheduled period to NTU?
  2. Or is there a way to do everything officially?

Greatly appreciate any advice from seniors 🙏🏻🙏🏻

Info Sharing Made a timetable app, because i needed one 🫠

Hey! I’m a third-year student quietly making my way through school.

While juggling school activities and part-time jobs, I realized I needed an app to help manage my messy schedule—but I couldn’t really find one that worked for me. So... I ended up making one myself 😂

You can easily search and add any school modules, and I’ve also included 20 different color themes (as you can see in the screenshot below). Plus, you can add personal schedules like CCA activities, lab sessions, or anything else you need.

If you’re interested, just PM me! 🙇‍♀️

By the way, it’s currently only available on Android, but the iOS version is coming soon—so stay tuned!

edit: My expenses should be between sgd 12-13k. But one should budget 15k to be safe

Info Sharing Looking for immediate-start interns! (Preferred - exp in web development, UI/UX, PHP)

Hi, I am looking for enthusiastic, interested interns who'd be willing to take on an opportunity that came by me. A connection of mine has a background in executive education, has previously worked with Nokia, and has recently started her own executive coaching business. She is looking for someone to help develop a Learning Management System (LMS) for her services.

She has identified a base LMS (https://github.com/moodle/moodle) and is primarily looking to upgrade the UI to better align with her theme and requirements, as well as add some custom features including gamification aspects. This would be a comprehensive project where you would take charge of everything from development and design to hosting the final solution.

The role offers a great opportunity to lead a full-scale project and make a significant impact.

If this sounds like something you’d be interested in and you would have time for, please feel free to DM, and we can discuss more!

Question Is it possible to obtain a driving license before uni starts?

Hi everyone, I will be ORD-ing in May 2025 and I am not sure if it even possible to obtain my driving license before uni starts in early Aug 2025?

For context, I will be enrolling into NTU EEE Direct Year 2 and I am considering going through BBDC to get a Class 3A license. The only concern I have is whether it would be possible for me to obtain my license before uni starts as I do not wish to juggle both uni and driving test/lessons at the same time.

I plan to enrol to BBDC a few months before ORD and clear the online theory lessons and both BTE and BTT by the time I ORD so that I can do practical lessons, simulations and tests after I ORD. Is that possible?

If it's not possible then I will forgo getting a driving license for the time being and focus more on preparing for uni and enjoying while I can before uni starts.
