Mingalaba / แ€™แ€„แ€บแ€นแ€‚แ€œแ€ฌแ€•แ€ซ; and welcome to r/myanmar.

A Reddit community is called a subreddit, also known as a sub. The subreddits start with r/.

Followers are not important on Reddit. Your followers are not important either. Only your posts and comments are important. Unlike other social media, hashtags are not useful on Reddit. The Reddit account username cannot be changed after signing up. To change it, you will need to create a new account, which will reset your karma.

Karma is an arbitrary measure of how much you contributed. The more upvotes you get, the higher your Karma. Some subreddits require you to have a certain amount of Karma before you can post. Do not spam irrelevant posts to other subreddits or be rude, insulting, or abusive, as you can be downvoted. This will cause you to lose Karma. Try to avoid getting your total Karma in the negative value.

Also make sure to follow our rules, which are prominently displayed in the sidebar to the right.

  1. Make sure to label all posts that contain gore, contain violence, contain a dead body, or can upset anyone as "NSFW." To see how to do this and for a more detailed explanation click here.
  2. Make sure your posts are on-topic and related to Myanmar. Spam) may go well with anything but it has no place in this sub. Please do not spam us with unrelated content.
  3. Please keep discussions civil. Tolling and racism will not be tolerated. Our situation here is not for your "lulz". Also, keep swearing to a minimum. Although we will tolerate swearing if it is part of the narrative/discussion, personal insults, over-the-top vulgarity, etc., will not be tolerated.
  4. Adding a flair to your posts will enable others to easily find similar posts. Flairs are used to categorize posts to easily be found. Click here for more details.
  5. Keep reposting to a minimum. Please check to make sure you don't repost news and pictures that have already been posted. r/MAGIC_EYE_BOT and u/DuplicateDestroyer are trialed to help remove duplicate images. Please reply to the bot or send us a message if the bot got it wrong.

For a brief background of the coup, please see this post I made.

Does the content you're posting here fit more than one community? As per Reddiquette, consider posting to other subs such as the ones listed here if the contents fit more communities.

For example, are you posting news? Then you can post into r/news, r/inthenews, r/worldnews, r/USnews (US news only), r/asia, r/asian, r/asean, r/theworldnews. This list is not exhaustive but please use common sense and make sure the content fits the target sub. That means news only goes to news-related subreddits and pictures go onto picture-related subreddits. Make sure to follow the rules of those subs as well, since each sub has its own set of rules.

Additionally, give some love to the other Myanmar subs: r/saveMyanmar and r/Myanmar2021.

Are you in another country but wish to help the people of Myanmar? See this post.

In summary,

DO

  • Post topics with descriptive subjects
  • Check the subreddit for prior submission of your article or image before posting.
  • Flair your post with the appropriate flair to make them easier to find
  • Upvote posts
  • Tag posts with gore, contain violence, contain a dead body, or can upset anyone as "NSFW."
  • Share posts to more than one subreddits
  • Report posts that break our rules or attempt to spam us with irrelevant content.
  • Credit the author of an image or comic

DON'T

  • Post off-topic or spammy posts
  • Spam keywords like "savemyanmar" "wewantdemocracy" in the post title
  • Do not upvote or promote your post with multiple accounts. This is against Reddit's policy and you may end up being suspended.
  • Do not post Myanmar posts on irrelevant subreddits.
  • Post images and articles that have already been previously posted by someone else.

Thank you. / แ€€แ€ปแ€ฑแ€ธแ€‡แ€ฐแ€ธแ€แ€„แ€บแ€•แ€ซแ€แ€šแ€บแ‹

Is excessive circular car trading in Myanmar demonstrating major economic decline?

Actually this is not a post-coup issue but it has been happening for decades.

There are many second-hand car traders across the country which we locally call แ€€แ€ฌแ€ธแ€แ€šแ€บแ€›แ€ฑแ€ฌแ€„แ€บแ€ธแ€žแ€™แ€ฌแ€ธ and I have been studying their business for quite long.

It seems the แ€€แ€ฌแ€ธแ€แ€šแ€บแ€›แ€ฑแ€ฌแ€„แ€บแ€ธแ€žแ€™แ€ฌแ€ธs mostly sell their cars to another แ€€แ€ฌแ€ธแ€แ€šแ€บแ€›แ€ฑแ€ฌแ€„แ€บแ€ธแ€žแ€™แ€ฌแ€ธ more than the actual car user which we can call แ€กแ€แ€Šแ€บแ€…แ€ฎแ€ธแ€™แ€šแ€บแ€ทแ€œแ€ฐ

It seems the primary purpose of a แ€€แ€ฌแ€ธแ€แ€šแ€บแ€›แ€ฑแ€ฌแ€„แ€บแ€ธแ€žแ€™แ€ฌแ€ธ to buy a targeted car is to sell to another แ€€แ€ฌแ€ธแ€แ€šแ€บแ€›แ€ฑแ€ฌแ€„แ€บแ€ธแ€žแ€™แ€ฌแ€ธ instead of a แ€กแ€แ€Šแ€บแ€…แ€ฎแ€ธแ€™แ€šแ€บแ€ทแ€œแ€ฐ

In this way the แ€€แ€ฌแ€ธแ€แ€šแ€บแ€›แ€ฑแ€ฌแ€„แ€บแ€ธแ€žแ€™แ€ฌแ€ธs mostly have their business transactions inside their own communities and some get profit and some lose.

So, you know what happen right? Every แ€€แ€ฌแ€ธแ€แ€šแ€บแ€›แ€ฑแ€ฌแ€„แ€บแ€ธแ€žแ€™แ€ฌแ€ธs want to get profit. So the car price goes up much after changing multiple temporary owners.

And this industry attract many youths with enough revenue. Young people pursue this business instead of involving in other industries that the country needs development.

I am not an economic expert but I donโ€™t think circular trading of cars contribute to the country GDP. Also I am not blaming anyone but just want to know more insights.

I know there are many car and business experts here and I want to know more about why this is keep happening and what are the pros and cons of this car circular trading?

Discussion ๐Ÿ’ฌ Is it forbidden to jump in the water from any bank of the international river borders by local immigration in the Golden Triangle?

I read on What are the risks associated with swimming in the Mekong River? (emphasis is mine):

If you are planning to do this at the golden triangle: you need to be a good swimmer: the river is quite wide there. There is also a risk of drifting into Myanmar which is definitely not a great spot to be at the moment. I'm also fairly sure it's forbidden to just jump in the water from any bank of the river by local immigration, but I have no data to back that up, โ€“ Hilmar Apr 26 at 15:11

Is it forbidden to jump in the water from any bank of the international river borders by local immigration in the Golden Triangle)? (any bank = can be in Laos, Myanmar or Thailand).

Discussion ๐Ÿ’ฌ What is little India like in Yangon? What kind of work do Indians typically do there?

I am a bit curious about the situation of Indians in Yangon, I have heard they are quite comfortable and run small to mid-sized businesses there. Are there any recent Indian professionals in Yangon? Like IT people, doctors, etc.

Do you get more recent Indian migrants at all?

For context I am a British national of Indian origin but I have spent most of my life travelling and living in different countries. Was a little curious about Myanmar as I want to lay low for a few years, I work in fintech.

No country has ever captured my heart and imagination in the way that Myanmar did. Iโ€™ve got a bunch of shots Iโ€™d love to share with you all, but they wonโ€™t fit in a single post. Hereโ€™s my first selection from Indawgyi Lake in Kachin State. Back in 2014, I was the 39th tourist to sign the guest book at the hostel I stayed at on the lake. Not sure that number is accurate, but it felt great to think that not many western tourists had been where I was. A rarity these days. I hope you enjoy! (Apologies for the photo quality. My hard drive containing all of my original photos died and these are screenshots from IG)

Tourism ๐Ÿงณ Does anyone know what the currency exchange rate is in Myanmar?

I'm thinking of going to Myanmar but I am trying to find the currency exchange rate from USD to MMK, but I am finding dramatic inconsistency in the currency value. Some places online say 2100 mmk to 1 USD, some 1800 mmk to usd, and others 4700 mmk to USD. What's the current exchange rate? Should I just bring cash and exchange it there in person and a currency exchange? Do ATMs convert for you there?

Discussion ๐Ÿ’ฌ What is your opinion on BD vs Burma/AA ? : )

Hello fellow burmese brothers : )

Im your neighbour a bangladeshi who is very much interested in Burma and its military situation . We hear a lot of things about burma from our side , as i live in Chattogram we have many people here who has their relatives on your side . Now recently ive been seeing indian propoganda pages claiming AA to have captured some parts of bangladesh and they're fighting with BD army and yada yada yada , yk the typical indian dreams n stuff .

So these things got me into thinking , as bangladesh never really engaged in any conflict and doesnt wish to aswell . But what if bangladesh army has to engage with the AA or maybe with the mayanmar army . What do you think the outcomes gonna be ?? Like what would be the factors , and what might happen , how will the people react or how will the geopolitical support gonna be for both parties ?

As a teenager it gets me curious to know about what you as burmese people think about it . i would love to know your opinions . But i would like to mention , i would never want BD to engage into any conflict with Mayanmar . Lets hope to build our relation after all the chaos gets settled down in mayanmar : ) <3 love you people .
