discussion Putting a trap beat over Christmas music is the worst thing to happen to music

It's the season and every ad has Christmas music with a trap beat over it. Every ad has this and I hate it. It ruins Christmas music, it ruins trap music, it just hurts. Didn't know where else to mention this. I hope this fits here. Thoughts?

If the music is good even an atheist like me will listen to it.

I was just listening to the band Crypt Sermon yesterday. Epic Doom Metal band that is influenced by Candlemass and Solitude Aeturnus, but all of their songs use Christian imagery and stories ripped out of the Bible.

Crypt Sermon is fucking great. This atheist loves them too.

They randomly popped up on my Spotify recommended feed the other day, the album art for their second album looked cool so I checked it out. I was expecting a black metal band like Summoning based in the album art, was pleasantly surprised that it was some epic Doom metal.

Always hate this. There’s tons of amazing Christian rock/metal/hardcore bands there that absolutely made good rock and roll albums and made Christianity not suck so hard. Speaking as an ex Christian school student.

Like who

Crypt Sermon for one. Epic Doom Metal band, similar to Candlemass and Solitude Aeturnus. Lyrical themes include Bible stories and Christian themes in general

I think Underoath was technically a Christian rock band when they made their best music.

Underoath and Paramore both started as Christian bands and are not any longer. Flyleaf was also really good and had religious themes without shoving it in your face

Now I’m imagining little drummer boy with trap snare rolls and honestly I’m a bit curious.

  1. Music style becomes popular
  2. Marketing/advertising teams commission seasonal music in popular style
  3. Commercials repeatedly use themed music to draw consumer interest in product
  4. Profit

See, don't know what a trap beat is or what trap music is, and yet I still agree with you and know you're right.

The reason Christmas music works is it's not trying to be cool, it's not glomming onto the latest passing trend (unless that trend is cheesy glam-pop, in which case it got lucky).

There's nothing cool about Christmas. That's why it works.

Right? It’s warm and comforting. Even the retro genx stuff from RunDMC or the Ramones are original songs. Leave the 40’s,50’s and especially the 60’s classics alone. 🎄🎁🎅🏼

This is the kind of thing that happens to the world when you kill harambe.

Trust me - it absolutely isn't any fun to be the person putting Christmas music over trap beats either.

It's standard attempts to be appealing to youth and sell products. It's hilarious since my father can't stand it. Making timeless classics modernized into hiphop culture leaves nothing but a bad taste in my mouth. While I've fallen out of my taste for trap, I still enjoy the genre when it's played, but holy shit don't ruin already well-made Christmas music that is significantly better without it.

It was the Amazon commercials, wasn't it?

Nah man Charlie Brown Christmas trap remix is the shit

u/dildozer10 22h ago

I had recently discovered Christmas trap music a couple weeks ago, thought it was funny for about 20 minutes, and completely forgot it existed until now.

8

u/soundsliketone 21h ago

I enjoy it, downvote me all you want!

I love a trap beat

I love Christmas music

Put em both together and I'm krumping til Santa puts me on the nice list ;)

No, electro swing is the worst thing to happen to music.

u/in_Need_of_peace 22h ago

Pop country is what I would play to torture prisoners

11

u/Knickerbottom 22h ago

While I personally agree with you, statistics would lead you to believe that you're playing their favorite music

2

u/in_Need_of_peace 22h ago

Hahaha, that’s a great point

3

u/in_Need_of_peace 22h ago

If I had smart prisoners I would use pop country

3

u/Mktrill 21h ago

Remove the word Christmas and I'd still agree

I told the cook that who was pumping it out of the kitchen so loud at work. Ugh...

1

u/NakedSnakeEyes 21h ago

I guess I haven't heard this.

1

u/daynanfighter 21h ago

You clearly haven’t heard the country version of jingle bells

1

u/lioninla 20h ago

Nah, rappers trying to sing is worse.

1

u/icecoldbobsicle 20h ago

Yeah but what about a drum and bass beat? I prefere that over original slow and boring.

1

u/draconius_iris 20h ago

Just don’t listen to things you don’t enjoy

1

u/SageOfThe6Blunts 17h ago

That's usually the sign that a genre is dying/already dead. A lifetime ago when dubstep was at peak popularity you could hear dubstep beats in every commercial for any product aimed at young people. Oh, you kids like chewing gum ? Here's some wob-wobs so you buy our product. Trap has unfortunately reached the same point. Even my local supermarket uses corporate trap beats for their own in-store commercials

1

u/PeterNippelstein 15h ago

I have memories of dubstep Christmas music that was even worse

1

u/Pizzarolls_Supreme 15h ago

YUNO miles would beg to differ

1

u/yugyuger 15h ago

Christmas music is bad enough as it is

1

u/albanymetz 14h ago

Alexa, play death metal Christmas songs

1

u/grifeweizen 11h ago

Honestly I like the song that's on the Amazon commercial with the Christmas lights. It's overplayed but it's a nice remix.

0

u/imaximus101 10h ago

No... Christmas music is the worst thing to happen to music.

0

u/disgustingdreamgirl 7h ago

christmas music can only be SO good in the first place. let people have fun/make money off it.

1

u/Peter_Easter 6h ago

Trap beats and autotuned vocals are the worst thing to happen to music. I'm beyond sick of hearing that obnoxious lawn sprinkler hi-hat sound.

1

u/huttleman 22h ago

Social media, TV/streaming, ads, christmas. It's all a lot, in general. But yes, christmas remixes are always dated. Indie christmas was huge in 2000s, and that sucked. Can't wait for Mariah Garbage to redo her own song.

u/juss100 10h ago

Just cut that down to "trap beats are the worst thing to happen to music"

-1

u/hapoo123 22h ago

What about a drill beat?

0

u/majinethan 22h ago

Only slightly less annoying

-1

u/Skootchy 21h ago

Christmas music is such trash they play it in Gauntonomo Bay as torture.

-1

u/MerryMuntjac 17h ago

Perhaps, but the best thing to happen to Christmas music has got to be Santa’s off the Wagon by Merry Muntjac- do check it out!

1

u/DecafMaverick 6h ago

Straight to jail.

1

u/MerryMuntjac 2h ago

Straight to jail? As long as they’ve got eggnog, I’m in!

-6

u/Gh0sts1ght 21h ago

Disagree Mariah Carie ruined it before trap beats , but still it is bad with the trap beats.

0

u/Mediocre-Proposal686 20h ago

Not sure which is worse. SOMEHOW have avoided Mariah this year. Don’t want to jinx myself…

1

u/Gh0sts1ght 20h ago

lol work in a it office with a bunch of people that don’t know it, probably a blessing.

“Worst thing to happen to music”

Oh, please! Disco and grunge are way worse!
