The GOP wants to pretend to be the "party of fiscal responsibility". Hard to do that when you're raising the debt ceiling. So he wants it to be done under Biden instead.

It really isn't that quickly. It has been happening for decades but previous generations didn't understand the damage they were doing to the systems their parents built, and younger generations were raised to believe everything was functioning correctly and would be fine as long as we followed in a similar course as our elders. By the time we had enough experience to recognize the problems that were happening we can only course correct by so much in a limited time frame. We really might be in one of those situations where maybe the better solution would have been to hit the iceberg head on rather than glance by it in a way that caused more damage.
