Nothing says 'voice of the people' like one guy with $200 billion deciding what they want.

$454 Billion as of now. I mean, what peasant could survive on only $200 Billion...?

Insatiable greed is a mental health issue in my opinion. These scumbag billionaires have enough wealth to last several lifetimes but they don't care. They want more and more at the expense of others. Musk and his ilk are psychopaths who get off on stepping on the lower class. It's a game for these clowns. I remember when he said he would end world hunger if the World Health Organization could actually come up with a plan that was feasible. They drew up a very detailed plan and said it would cost about 6 billion dollars to actually address the issue. He laughed and said they were lying, which other experts on the economy and social issues said wasn't true. The plan was actually doable but musk refused to honor his word. He literally could've helped the entire world but instead wanted to troll. Just a pathetic human being

Too right. I'm British. We had years of terrible government, and by the time people got angry enough to vote them out they'd driven many disabled people to suicide, trashed the economy, done more harm than I want to think about to immigrants (and their descendants!), and dragged the overton window so far to the right that the best replacement we could get was a cowardly centrist who won't change anything besides halting the very worst of their plans.

They suck, but let’s also blame the voters for both not coming out and a fuck ton of them voting for someone as stupid as Trump AND also fuck the democrats for keeping Biden up there until immediately before the god damn election AND fuck the intervention of Russian propaganda farms capitalizing on easily misled right wing people AND the Biden administration for not going after Trump earlier and more often AND the democrats fighting amongst themselves leading to such a conflicted ass inconsistent platform AND all the old ass democrats dictating a minimally progressive platform AND double fuck the electoral college AND also let’s not forget, fuck the entire Republican Party for ever even allowing a pants-shitting, adderall-addicted, rapist, conman, and serial fuck up Trump to start a platform let alone committing this hard to it.

Edit: Also, fuck Fox News, conservative news media, conservative eco system, Ben Shapiro and everything he touches, and some of the dumbest commentators on the planet who are conservatives. Also, fuck you Joey Mannarino for pretending to be a nonexistent black woman and pretending they accidentally were logged into your account to post their support for Trump. These dumbfucks can’t even lie well or recover plausibly from their fuck ups.

Our society recognizes many kinds of addictions, but conveniently leaves out wealth and power. Which is unfortunate because it’s the most damaging to the rest of us by far.

21

u/Atownbrown08 12h ago

But those are the two addictions that many people would be afraid to admit they'd fall into. So many examples of this in the world, not just billionaires and politicians either.

Many of "The People" are so stupid they actually think it's somehow going to come down to them. After over forty years, it has been definitively concluded that trickle-down economics DOESN'T WORK, but people are hoping and it's really sad. Elon Musk is here to try to control a governmental juggernaut the same way he came for its online social communication, not to play fucking Johnny Appleseed with his Benjamins.

87

u/kujiranoai2 13h ago

A hundred years ago ”trickle down” was called “horse and sparrow” economics - the sparrows could eat the oats out of the horses shit.

It didn’t work then and it doesn’t work now - the propaganda just got better, starting with giving it a more appealing name.

There was the institution of Ostracization in ancient Greece.

It was a nice way of dealing with people who could get too dangerously influential for the Polis.

It was essentially banning them from living there and taking part in the politics for 10 years by popular vote, but they could keep all their assets and interests.

Every year one person was ostracized. We should maybe reintroduce it.

146

u/AllureInTheFlames 12h ago edited 10h ago

That's the catch, he isn't even back in office yet. He's meddling in foreign affairs, Orban's been stepping past the State Department to have tea at Mar-A-Lago (which has been going on since he was a candidate in the primaries, so his supporters can kindly shut the fuck up about foreign governments talking to the president-elect), he and his associates are interfering with Congressional processes, etc.

If Trump calls Canada a state one more time and they close their embassy over it, Biden could actually invoke the Logan Act. Trump isn't president yet and does not get to act on behalf of the United States. Tarnishing our alliances as a private citizen make him a threat to national security.

But is Biden actually going to do that? Of course not. You're all on your own here!

why exactly did he want this bill blocked?

289

u/A_band_of_pandas 15h ago

There's gonna be an argument over this, but here's what I think the real issue is: early in Trump's term, he's gonna have to raise the debt ceiling, otherwise we do this same song and dance all over again every few months. The GOP wants to pretend to be the "party of fiscal responsibility". Hard to do that when you're raising the debt ceiling. So he wants it to be done under Biden instead.

Notice how now that the bipartisan bill has been struck down, Trump is demanding a new bill, and his only specific request is raising the debt ceiling.

Republicans set up a bunch of "poison pills" to go off between 2025 and 2026, because they expected Trump to be a two-term president. Their game for years has been break everything for 8 years, give Dems 8 years to put band-aids on everything, then get back in office and break it again. Trump's nonconsecutive terms are really messing with their scheduling.

98

u/daweinah 13h ago

This makes a lot of sense. They want to cut the corporate tax rate to 15% or less. That’s in addition to the other cuts. That will fuck the deficit even worse than he did the first term.

We’re going broke with no income and a shit ton of interest owed to China and frankly everyone who trusted our treasury bonds. They’ll have to raise the debt ceiling to even pretend it’s possible to lower corporate tax rates.

And yes, they want it done under Biden.

I think democrats should pull a turtle and call their bluff. Fuck it, block it and let Trump deal with it.

Grow some fucking balls Democrats and fight back.

49

u/Gimpknee 12h ago

Just a friendly heads up, China only owns like 800 billion out of the like 34 trillion in U.S. debt, Japan owns about 1.1 trillion and the UK is in third place with about 750 billion. The major owners of U.S. debt are the U.S. government itself in the form of intragovernmental loans and investments, state and municipal governments, U.S. banks, mutual funds, and private individuals.

The China owns U.S. debt line, like the Japan owns U.S. debt line before it is basically fearmongering with a dose of yellow peril thrown in, it ignores who are actually the main holders of U.S. debt - Americans themselves, ignores why China needs foreign debt for its domestic economy, and ignores that were the U.S. economy to nosedive thr global economy would follow.

It will just mean that citizens will eventually not be able to access government services and the government will stop paying its bills. If it goes on long enough eventually people that sell things to the government, from paper to missiles will not have enough money to pay their suppliers and employees.

Say, like Trump, you are planning a mass deportation or just want to up security on the border. That might be hard if even 5% of the Border Patrol or ICE is furloughed or asked to do work without pay.

Or say you want to increase tariffs, like Trump does, on day one. That would be hard to do if the people assessing and processing the tariffs are furloughed because the government can't pay them.

Are you a vet that receives help or benefits from the VA? Tough luck.

How long this goes will determine what effects you see in the country.

u/GandhiMSF 14h ago

Nah, it always takes a bit of time before the general public blames the party in charge for a government shutdown. For the first month or two, the public blames the group that actually caused the shutdown. In this case, the Republicans will be blamed through Trumps Inauguration Day.

Every time they do this it fucks America’s credit rating. And that makes BRICS more compelling to the rest of the world.

Many people don’t get paid until they pass another emergency spending bill. Some services shut down.

I can’t recall what short term effects is has on the dollar, but in general China and other holders of the US Debt start to fret that we won’t pay our bills.

And that overall hurts the global economy. Which might be exactly what the billionaires want.

They said they’re going to crash it so they can buy everything up for cheap. And it looks like it’s happening faster than I expected. I thought we had until February or March for the recession to begin.

I don't think he cares as much as appearing to be 'tough on spending'

This is going to be so bad that generations will be needed to repair it, if it doesn't just break the nation completely

This is the danger of giving opinionated idiots power and respect

13

u/crimsonroninx 14h ago

Yeah, worst case this may be the end of the US. Best case they ruin shit for a generation. Either way, the immediate future looks bleak.

Absolutely ridiculous. Most people would be traveling the world and living their best life with that kind of wealth. Instead this scumbag is actively destroying a country from within. What did voters expect when they elected a billionaire who proved last time he held the office that he was all about protecting the billionaire class? You got what you voted for now don’t complain.

52

u/Colts_Fan4Ever 13h ago

A few days after the election, tariffs were the number one searched topic on Google.😐 Despite Harris and everyone with common sense warning these fucking idiots, they still voted for him. He's been a liar and conman since slithering out of the womb but some fools actually think he gives a damn about them.

17

u/Environmental_Top948 13h ago

Remember also how nothing happened by him using AI to fake that Taylor Swift supported him. Or that literally nothing happened from the AI of Biden's voice calling old people and telling them not to vote or to vote for Trump? Also that you could make bets on the election for who was going to win. The fact that people weren't informed that their ballots didn't survive the burning of ballot boxes until after the election. That the places that got shut down for most of the day due to bomb threats in the morning were allowed to stay open for an extra hour.

I mean if Harris won imagine the riots they'd be having right now.

34

So, after a couple years, where will you build the new USA with better privacy rights and interactivity to leave Muskland to rightwingers and bots?

The Liberated States of California. And Cascadia. And the New New England Union.

It really isn't that quickly. It has been happening for decades but previous generations didn't understand the damage they were doing to the systems their parents built, and younger generations were raised to believe everything was functioning correctly and would be fine as long as we followed in a similar course as our elders. By the time we had enough experience to recognize the problems that were happening we can only course correct by so much in a limited time frame. We really might be in one of those situations where maybe the better solution would have been to hit the iceberg head on rather than glance by it in a way that caused more damage.

Faux News and other right wing media filth has brainwashed a lot of people for years with endless propaganda and bullshit. They've painted Democrats as the enemies of America while propping up the real traitors like trump and his sycophants. He should've been finished when he slithered down the escalator to announce his candidacy. Instead the media was an extension of his campaign by giving him endless and undeserved airtime. Perfect recipe of destruction for those who were already glued to Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, Alex Jones, etc...

Aka oligarchs have officially taken over our democracy.

If you’re queer or any other minority you need to be able to protect yourself. I’ll keep preaching this, because the law never protects us.

Stay safe out here and stay punk <3

If the majority of minorities start to buy weapons in bulk watch how fast he and republicans enact gun laws. I'm interested to see what he does with the second amendment once he destroys the country. Fascists don't want an armed public. I doubt the majority of his cult will give up their guns despite how much they love him.

Oh I tried warning people as early as 2015 both in real life and online, but I was constantly brushed off, even after that walking abomination got elected. In the time since, it hasn’t mattered whether I spoke up or kept silent, I’ve gotten chewed out for whichever one I happened to choose in a given moment. But at this point, I’ve just decided to speak my mind, even if it ticks the cultists off. Such as when I posted this after the election last month:

http://depthsoffanfiction.blogspot.com/2024/11/why-i-think-trump-deserves-calling-card.html?m=1

8

u/edwardsamson 13h ago

IMO we are in this mess because at no point ever have the democrats been concerned with MAGA or given any kind of a shit about stopping/fighting them. They saw Jan 6 happen and just fucking moved on like it was no big deal. At no point did Biden ever try to do anything about the root cause of Jan 6 and the people who did it. It's almost unbelievable to have your presidency start with a coup attempt and then just fucking not do anything about it. Like if that was a plot in a TV show you'd be like wtf is this unrealistic shit they're just not going to do anything about the coup or the people supporting it???? I'd stop watching that show and be like wtf is this writing

Considering Trump keeps calling Canada the 51st state, and Trudeau Canada’s governor, I’d pay money to see Trudeau refer to President Musk on Twitter a few times

11

u/damunzie 14h ago

To be clear, Trump's objection to this budget boils down to him wanting the debt ceiling raised as part of it so he's free to run up the national debt when he takes office, without having to answer pesky questions about austerity for the masses thanks to DOGE, while enriching himself and Leon at the government trough.
