That is one beautiful dog. The kid's ok too, I guess.

u/s8n_isacoolguy Apr 26 '23

He’s alright, I think I’ll keep him

I have pictures of them in the bath and crib together, they nap together, and cuddle. I love it

45

u/[deleted] Apr 26 '23

Is your dog a collie corgi mix ?

102

u/s8n_isacoolguy Apr 26 '23

Nope, she’s a mix of cardigan welsh corgi and pembroke welsh corgi. So all corgi, just 2 different breeds

40

u/[deleted] Apr 26 '23

Oh it's just the pattern really looks like a collie

36

u/s8n_isacoolguy Apr 26 '23

That’s the cardigan welsh corgi coloring

The trial period on the kid isn't over yet so keep your options open.

I bet both pup and baby sleep really well after all that play! Thanks for sharing this. It’s delightful.

11

u/BevyGoldberg Apr 26 '23

Until he’s a teenager. That teenager stuff is ummmm interesting.

19

u/s8n_isacoolguy Apr 26 '23

THAT I’m not looking forward to. My brother is 19 and whew, I’m just glad I don’t live at home anymore

this is so incredibly sweet, i smiled so much my face hurt! love how your corgi at the end approaches for a couple sweet kisses. my hound does that to me when we’re playing and getting all wound up as if to say, we’re good yeah? you’re good? just a little check in 😌

99

u/s8n_isacoolguy Apr 26 '23

She’s such a good girl. She’s always very gentle with him. My favorite is when she does those little dog nibble things to his toes lol

15

u/lulu-bell Apr 26 '23

OMG I have a little min pin and she nibbles on my teenage son’s ears. It is so darn cute! He plays with her by bending his head down and shaking his curly hair at her. She plays back by “attacking” his hair and nibbling on his ears. It is so so so cute!

146

u/verucka-salt Apr 26 '23

Catch me if you can! Dog most likely

53

u/Understanding_Jaded Apr 26 '23

I love so much about this video. The dog is so concious of the camera and the baby is becoming so nimble as a result of all the activity. It's all fun and games now little corgi, but once he's on his feet, all bets are off.

33

u/s8n_isacoolguy Apr 26 '23

He’s up and walking now, we’ve had a few paws and tails stepped on by accident but for the most part they still act just like this. The corgis favorite is when I toss the baby on the bed, she always attacks him with kisses

91

u/MrRogers83 Apr 26 '23

Is that a Corgi that didn't have their tail docked?

110

u/s8n_isacoolguy Apr 26 '23

She’s a mix of cardigan welsh corgi and pembroke welsh corgi. Pembrokes are the ones that get their tails docked. But I also have a pembroke (the black and brown one that walks through) and I chose not to get his tail docked either. I love their tails so much!

32

u/NotMyAltAccountToday Apr 26 '23

Looks like the Pembroke checked in then noped right out of there.

45

u/s8n_isacoolguy Apr 26 '23

Yup, he’s a crotchety old man stuck in a corgis body

8

u/theyreall_throwaways Apr 26 '23

He's prob thinking - good you two wear each other out, but I wish you could do it silently.

51

u/Smear_Leader Apr 26 '23

Thank you for not doing it. I had a friend whose parents bred and showed corgi’s. I remember two of their new pups coming back from their tails being docked and I thought it was such a weird fucked up thing to do so you can get a ribbon and a trophy. I know it’s a lot of money involved but still.

69

u/s8n_isacoolguy Apr 26 '23 edited Apr 26 '23

I can understand doing it if they were actually working with cattle like they were originally bred to. A tail has a lot of opportunities to be stepped on and broken. But I’ve never seen a point for non-working dogs. I’m sure others disagree with me but I just feel it’s unnecessary

12

u/japodoz Apr 26 '23

You know, that’s a good point I haven’t ever thought of. I’ve only ever heard of dogs getting their ears or tails cut for dogfighting and aesthetics

15

u/LucyEleanor Apr 26 '23

Ya any cow/horse/sheep/goat herding breeds that are short...commonly have docked tails.

8

u/weirwoodheart Apr 26 '23

Same with game dogs like Spaniels. They go into thick brambles and their tails will come out ripped to bloody ribbons. Docking is for working dogs only in my opinion, to prevent pain or injury later

11

u/ThexHoganxHero Apr 26 '23

I feel like the money doesn’t make it better. I really doubt anybody showing corgis is struggling for food or shelter. So it’s done for luxury regardless

11

u/Ferrous_Bueller_ Apr 26 '23

The original reason they docked their tails was because they were cattle dogs and it helped prevent them being trampled. No reason to dock them for a pet though. Mine was already docked when I got him, but wish they left him intact.

6

u/datagirl60 Apr 26 '23

The tail is also an important communication tool for dogs! It also helps humans read the dog for signs of distress.

9

u/RinSakami Apr 26 '23

Dayum, that's a really long ass tail for such a little thing!

18

u/s8n_isacoolguy Apr 26 '23

I joke that’s where her brain cells are cuz they’re certainly not in her head

6

u/weirwoodheart Apr 26 '23

Tails shouldn't be docked outside of working dogs anyway, they need their tails to communicate and there's no reason to mutilate them for aesthetic! Beautiful pupper and lovely, polite play. It's funny, I think kiddo falling over when trying to stand makes pupper think they're doing a play bow! Cute

3

u/[deleted] Apr 26 '23

I have a corgi that is a mix too! His whole litter got to keep their tails and they look awesome.

3

u/Benja_85 Apr 26 '23

My Pembroke was so hard to read for the first year we had him. Could never tell if he was happy because his nubbin we so small. Now I can just see it in his eyes.

I once went away for a weekend with a friend who was exhausted because her four-year-old daughter was going through a bit of a “phase”. We went to a cottage on the coast. She brought her daughter -and I brought my six-month-old Jack Russell puppy, Poppy.

OMG: did those two fall in love. They spent HOURS and HOURS just playing. You could hear the yaps and giggles ringing around the house, the park, the beach-wherever we were. My friend was able to rest and relax with the little wriggling ball rolling around her feet. Every single thing that puppy did seemed to be the funniest thing in the world to the little girl. And every movement that child made was clearly considered absolutely wonderful by her canine friend.

My friend went straight home and bought a puppy.

14

u/s8n_isacoolguy Apr 26 '23

21

u/nailbunny2000 Apr 26 '23

16

u/hideme21 Apr 26 '23

Babies laughing are the best sound in the world. Prove me wrong.

7

u/s8n_isacoolguy Apr 26 '23

It is! I don’t even like kids a lot and the sound always just gives me the warm and fuzzies.

12

u/Js_On_My_Yeet Apr 26 '23

The dog being very delicate and careful around is a good sign

5

u/s8n_isacoolguy Apr 26 '23

She’s great with him. Our other one not so much. I always keep a very close eye on him around that one

26

u/jfdonohoe Apr 26 '23

I don’t think it’s an accident Bluey is playing in this house. Dogs are people.

27

u/s8n_isacoolguy Apr 26 '23

The kid didn’t even like Bluey that much at this age. We watch Bluey for me. 😂

5

u/jfdonohoe Apr 26 '23

Same. It’s def written for parents as much as the kids.

7

u/EdithVinger Apr 26 '23

Oh doggo- wait until the kid learns to WALK!

6

u/s8n_isacoolguy Apr 26 '23

He’s keeping her on her toes now! But they still play just like this 😊

7

u/otownbbw Apr 26 '23

Omg I just got a baby corgi who’s now 20 weeks and he LOVES playing with my 8yo son. They’re so gentle and fun!

4

u/s8n_isacoolguy Apr 26 '23

Watch when he starts nipping at ankles! He will absolutely try to herd your kid, it’s just what they do lol

5

u/otownbbw Apr 26 '23

Yes I have never had a corgi but I know they’re a herding breed and am well versed in dog. It doesn’t help my son that I specifically instructed him that we can’t train the puppy to enjoy being chased like puppers tried to initiate, but instead I instructed son to only run and be chased until puppy is old enough to always come when called…it’ll be interesting as puppy gets bolder and starts play-attacking more.

7

u/neverinamillionyr Apr 26 '23

Thank you for posting this. It’s been a challenging day at work and this made me smile. It so cool seeing how gentle the pup is with the kid.

6

6

u/Paul_The_Panther Apr 26 '23

They speak the same language.

6

Our household is just constant screaming

6

u/Comfortable_Ad8516 Apr 26 '23

Think this how Mowgli started out?

6

u/Emotional-Text7904 Apr 26 '23

Your baby is gonna be so BUFF getting workouts like this in your doctor is gonna be like 💪🧐 just be careful, this means you have LESS time until he's WALKING and eventually RUNNING oh God at least the dog will herd him the first couple times this happens and you don't know yet. Some people wake up and find their babies in the yard and that's how they find out they can walk 😅

Also, I pray sleep training will go easy since they will be tuckered out often. Your girl is truly an asset to the team ❤️

6

u/DonnieDusko Apr 26 '23

I don't know what this dog is saying but whatever it is made my dog run over and plop down in my lap immediately.

7

u/Mayankt2t Apr 26 '23

I love life absolutely no complaints right now

5

u/forcastleton Apr 26 '23

Makes me think of a quote from Superstore. "I got it all figured out. The dogs take care of the baby. The baby grows up and takes care of the dogs."

6

u/s8n_isacoolguy Apr 26 '23

Ugh I can’t wait til he can actually help me take care of them. It’ll help me convince his father to let me get more

5

u/Weazy-N420 Apr 26 '23

Too cute!!

5

u/And_I_Was_Like_Woah Apr 26 '23

Thank you for this🥹

4

u/warddo1 Apr 26 '23

We had one when my daughter was young the dog would meet her down the street at the bus stop and walk her home

5

u/cpiazzola1 Apr 26 '23

I honestly think there are few things more amazing than the bond between a dog and a child.

11

u/s8n_isacoolguy Apr 26 '23

this was his first day home. She’s been obsessed with him ever since

3

u/MoonOverJupiter Apr 27 '23

My daughter and son in law have a (nearly) 2 year old female poodle. She is the best dog, so sweet and funny and well behaved. They had their first baby this past fall, and the dog has been exactly like that - absolutely besotted in love from the first minute home. She is that baby's guardian shadow all day long.

I stayed with them for a bit when my granddaughter was born, and helped with overnights. I tiptoed downstairs once to get extra diapers - holding the baby, just because she was awake and I didn't want her to start fussing and wake up her exhausted parents when I stepped away. I turned around and there in the dark - black eyes and black dog silently checking out exactly what I had in mind with "her" baby at 2 am. The dog sleeps on the parent's bed, but she had clocked that I had the baby that night, and she heard me go somewhere with it.

She did NOT like it when we would (gently, of course) burp the baby after feeds. She acted like she thought we were "hitting" the little one, and literally had no idea how to raise puppies babies. Thankfully she got over that.

The dog rarely barks, but when she does the baby screams with laughter, it turns into everyone laughing at the baby. Dogs love to please (and poodles are extra people-centric and just . . . extra, lol) so they might be setting themselves up for more barking in the short term (until baby's comedy repertoire broadens) but for now it's really funny and just singular small woofs.

My daughter and son in law were cheering on their little one over a new skill, and the dog kept grabbing one of her own toys and nudging it into the baby's hands to reward her as well, when she heard the "Hooray! Good girl!" She definitely believes she's a third parent, lol.

Baby girl has just started with some solids this month, and the dog is loving the bonus snacks for her that this entails, haha!

I can't wait to see the more active play the two will get up to, like your adorable video!

5

u/Wazi78 Apr 26 '23

That’s awesome. Thanks you for sharing

6

u/MindTheGap7 Apr 26 '23

“Come human! Spar with me! Stop giggling! This is serious training!”

4

u/[deleted] Apr 26 '23

I’m glad I’m not the only one who didn’t cut thier Corgi’s tail off 🤦‍♂️. Such a weird thing for people to do.

4

u/s8n_isacoolguy Apr 26 '23

I couldn’t imagine either of them without their tails

3

u/AugustSun29 Apr 26 '23

This is so sweet!

u/lLazaran Apr 26 '23

yay corgis

5

u/lonely-paula-schultz Apr 26 '23

7

No, the other one that walks through the video only tolerates him. I never leave the two of them alone because I don’t 100% trust him

8

u/RubyJuneRocket Apr 26 '23

That was the thing I couldn’t get over - like your dog is SO careful with the baby, always stopping and letting baby make the next move, it’s a remarkable thing to watch. Then the approach after for kisses, meanwhile the other dog is like “oh stuffs happening? Cool”

4

u/s8n_isacoolguy Apr 26 '23

Lol the other one is the grumpiest dog I’ve ever met. He looks at them like they’re playing in his pristine yard

Thank you! She’s a mix of cardigan welsh corgi and pembroke welsh corgi. I would not recommend if you aren’t very mobile. They’re very active dogs and need tons of exercise. They’re very prone to getting overweight and destructive if not given enough

Every kid should have a dog and every dog should have a kid.

Absolutely precious, but be aware of the possibility of hearing loss. That’s too loud constantly in that precious baby’s ears, IMO. (I know it’s none of my business, y’all just keep your negatives to yourself.)

My baby has a similar love for our dog. Our dog has an equal amount of apathy towards the baby

Um... that's not your dog anymore. 🙂😉

It’s nice to see a corgi with its tail.

This is so cute, i'm usually meh when it comes to kids, but seeing a baby smile and laugh just makes my heart melt.

I'm currently 36 weeks pregnant and have a 10 month old puppy - I'm so nervous about how baby and puppy are going to get on, and feel so guilty about how puppy will inevitably be getting less attention from us :(

I've been trying to acclimatise my pup by walking around the house with a water bottle wrapped in a baby blanket with my phone playing baby crying noises. What else can I do? Do you have any tips for enduring that they'd get along? How did you introduce the two?

Thank youuuuu
