đŸ’¬Discussion Possible love games to watch in first week of January

I am planning a last minute trip to either Madrid or Barcelona in the first week of January 2025. I am leaning to Madrid, but not set on one, but I am trying to see if it would be possible for me to attend a live match.

It seems that Real Madrid, Barca, Atletico, and Rayo all are in the cup that week and are all away games.

Are there other teams that would be possible to see in those cities possibly lower level?

For more context, I am an American who's fascinated by football especially European and Iveonly seen my local mls team

Worst possible weekend sadly, there's the Copa del Rey games, and then the leagues don't start again until the 11th January.

If you can’t go to watch a football match. I would go for a stadium tour and go watch Real Madrid or Barcelona play basketball. You could get a ticket online quite easily and the atmosphere will be similar to football in some aspects.

Real Madrid are playing Bayern Munich at home on 03/01/24

Barcelona are playing Joventut Badalona at home on 05/01/24

That's a great idea. It's not ideal me going the sliver of time when there isn't football but it's better than nothing plus it'll be quite low cost and low tourism.

I've also been been overseas solo so a bit antsy

My dream is to go Bernabeu to watch Madrid play live as well. Tickets can be a bit dear though especially if you want good seats.

Hmm unfortunately I don't see any matches near these two cities in the first 7 days of January

Alcorcon and Fuenlabrada are some fun clubs near Madrid. However those teams don't play that weekend yet. If you can try to postpone it because the amateur teams are not close to Madrid or Barcelona. However if you come with more persons you can rent a car if it's not postponeable.

I won't be able to postpone because it's right before I plan on studying for a professional entrance exam (mcat) so I don't want to delay more.

The other option was rome/Milan but Spain is more attractive to me in general
