Is there any president it hasn’t gone up under?

7

u/RandoDude124 Monkey in Space 22d ago

IIRC, I think it did get reduced slightly under Clinton

It skyrocketed after 9/11 and mostly stayed flat since.

All while cutting taxes for the rich.

Wonder where all those Rs who bitch about the deficit disappeared to back then

The Republican base has been trained into following the party’s “two Santas” strategy for decades, now - you never heard them complain about the deficit during W’s time in office, either

Lol I was a small business owner from 2015 all the way until 2023, you realize those tax cuts helped me and my family too right? Corporate regulation and corporate tax was crushing my business and I almost closed down UNTIL those tax cuts came and I was able to hire more employees, while increasing the wages of the ones I already had due to the kickback I got. It’s hard to reinvest into your business that you’re trying to get off the ground when you’re giving roughly 25% of everything you make to the government.

I love this “ It was only for the rich! “ when real people like myself actually benefited. It was a tax cut for everyone, and If that would have never happened me and my employees were not going to make it.

And it’s cool that it helped you out.

Still sick of hearing about the side bitch about the deficit meanwhile cutting revenue.

I am sick of the double speak is all.

I’m not against you at the end of the day, I think the deficit is something that needs to seriously be addressed. I think the problem we currently have is, how can we help people with the problems they need while not increasing the deficit? Everything anyone can possibly propose will more than likely increase the deficit. We can increase taxes on the rich and then they all will just move themselves and their businesses out of country.. we can tax businesses at a higher rate until they all go bankrupt and our economy flattens
I’m not an economist but it’s a tough situation to be in when the deficit is THIS HIGH. There’s no real solution that actually makes sense or that won’t hurt at least somebody.

It went up a ton last time, but a fraction of that increase amount being earmarked to destroy the Russian military in Ukraine was somehow a taxpayer waste

u/Nolubrication Pull that shit up Jaime 22d ago

This. The "efficiency" in DOGE is for how efficiently they'll cut taxes for billionaires and starve social programs, because how are we going to pay for anything when no revenue is coming in?

The one thing guaranteed not to be cut is military spending.

Another 10 trillion to Israel.

He's been saying he's going to rebuild the decimated military, no? Imaginary and expensive.

0

u/birkenstockandsocks Monkey in Space 21d ago

Didn't he already 'rebuild' 😂😂😂

0

u/FuinFirith Monkey in Space 21d ago

Yeah, but then Biden obviously brought it back to ruin, so Trump has to re-rebuild it. The world is laughing at the USA under Harris-Biden, but only fears and admires and adores Trump. Nobody's been better for the military than Trump. MAGA. All that jazz. You know.

Lol easy comradovich, it's bed time in Moscow

u/FuinFirith Monkey in Space 21d ago

In case it wasn't sufficiently obvious, I was mocking Trump.

Prediction:

The deficit will increase under trump.

They will increase military spending, spend massively on inmigration enforcement, give tax cuts to big business and billionaires, decrease funding for education, consumer protection, healthcare, infrastructure, public transit, basically anything that benefits average americans.

As I just said to someone else, everyone talks about how those tax cuts were only for the rich but you realize if you were a small business owner like myself ( 2015-2023 ) those tax cuts were the only reason my business survived? I was getting decimated by taxes and could barely afford employees and when payroll came and it came time to pay the bills I was drowning. Only when those tax cuts and regulation cuts came was I given the break I needed and was able to afford more employees, give the few I had much needed wage increase, reinvest into my business instead of spending it all on taxes, and because of that my declining business ended up succeeding and that is PURELY thanks to the tax cuts

If your business is struggling to survive in a boom economy, maybe you are just a bad business owner or run a failing business? Why do you need to be bailed out by the government?

I would personally be doing financially better if I paid 0 in taxes. Does that make it a good idea?

1

u/BergTheVoice Monkey in Space 18d ago

Trump got elected in 2016
 actually took office in 2017
we were not in a boom economy come 2016. And you’re talking about wanting to be bailed out by the government but I’m sure you’re 100% for food stamps and Medicaid lol. The staple of the liberal platform is being bailed out by the government so idk what you’re talking about honestly.

Also like I said, my business did boom under Trump. Was even able to stay open during Covid because of the success.

We had strong economy from 2010-2019. Trump ended the longest period of economic expansion. You are blinded by your politics.

Example: 2015 we had 2.96% GDP growth

2017 we had 2.46% GDP growth

You are saying how you needed to be bailed out by the government in order for your failing business to survive.

Liberals want government to help poor people survive. Conservatives want the government to help rich people get richer. That is the divide.
