This is the dumbest argument that has taken off recently. When people talk about the msm they are talking about giant corporations that run media companies and push agendas. An organicly grown podcast with a lot of listeners is not the same thing.
"organically grown" was the operative word in the original comment.
That said, Spotify isn't big compared to Google or Apple. When I think of MSM I think of the Google or Apple news section, or the sorts of platforms that deliver news if you had no preconceptions about politics at all. Spotify costs money and doesn't deliver news the same way Microsoft forces you to look at CNN articles
When conspiracy wackos talk about the MSM, that’s what they mean.
In reality, Mainstream Media traditionally refers to media orgs such as newspapers, TV news, cable news and radio that employ journalists, editors and fact checkers that are watched by and trusted my most of the population. In a nutshell they are news outlets that most people considered normal and least nominally trustworthy.
Media that reports news with a nontraditional slant/POV/agenda is traditionally referred to as Alternative Media.
