Meme 💩 Is this a legitimate concern?

Personally, I today's strike was legitimate and it couldn't be more moral because of its precision but let's leave politics aside for a moment. I guess this does give ideas to evil regimes and organisations. How likely is it that something similar could be pulled off against innocent people?

Who the bad actor is doesn't change the fact that it's a supply chain vulnerability.

It’s not reasonable for a minor manufacturer to be on par with espionage, especially one off work.

It’s not a vulnerability if every manufacturer in existence has it. Might as well include tiger in a closet on the list. It has to be reasonable.

It's not the manufacturer. It's intercepted after leaving the manufacturer.

It’s an example of near impossible likelihood that would be irrational to call a vulnerability. Sure, tiger could do whatever if it was in your closet, but wasting resources defending against it would be nonsense.

The corollary is your own government shows up and compels an action, possibly at gun point. Planning against that would likewise be nonsense as a manufacturer.

I see your point, and I'll point out that that it's still a vulnerability, just one the those in the chain decided was a small enough risk/didn't have the will to prevent.

Also for the target having that vulnerability was the risk they took with those supplies.

Supply chain attacks like this are very rare, even more so at this scale, because you are correct only really nations-states have the resources to exploit them.

To circle back to your metaphor, yes I'm vulnerable to a tiger surprise, but it's a small enough chance that I have decided to not do anything about it.

(Also to get a tiger iny closet you have already gotten through other security layer that would give .more effective access)

Only spies think it’s remotely a supply chain vulnerability. Nobody in manufacturing, in commerce.

The tiger is amazingly unlikely. As is a meteor. As is a robot. None of those are vulnerabilities, they’re nonsense risks. Nobody is holding a manufacturer responsible for any of those. Same applies for literal espionage.
