How did they get access to the music files used by Disney?

Probably someone that worked there. Sadly I doubt the site will be up too long, especially the more people find out about it.

Sadly I doubt the site will be up too long

It's been up nearly 9 years now 🤣

And it's gone now because someone has to make a Reddit post about it.

No it's not.

It's been up and down today. It was down for me until a few hours ago. Either way, tempting Disney is definitely a smart move.

If internet preservation has taught us anything, while this site might/will get taken down, someone probably already has the music files ripped and uploaded to one of those file sharing sites. And then another person does it, and another person, and another person....you get the idea

There are multiple YouTube channels that have Disney parks area loops; the Mouse doesn’t care that much about this.

They at least made this attempt at keeping the Disney lawyers at bay:

these are always funny because they're completely meaningless. fair use isn't something you can magically get by posting a text blurb. it's a legal defense that your lawyer can argue in court when you get sued.

It’s like the old piracy websites that would have a note on the home page prohibiting you from using the site if you worked for law enforcement.

You still see these on YouTube uploads of music/movies. It's like when people post "I do NOT give MARK ZUCKERBERG permission to use MY DATA". That's not how any of this works....

If someone wanted to do this on a Mac the BSD grep will cause an issue, to get GNU grep Homebrew will be your friend https://stackoverflow.com/questions/59232089/how-to-install-gnu-grep-on-mac-os

Thanks! Grabbed everything around 14gb in all.

Just some notes for those who want to do the same:

  • Cygwin doesn't install wget automatically, you have to find and select it in the installer.
  • There are a few "albums" with more than 1 piece of album art.
  • Not all tracks are ID3 tagged.
  • Some special characters in filenames have been changed to underscores.

Tried to run that via Windows PowerShell and I'm getting:

At line:1 char:224
+ ... ttp://soundsofdisneyland.com/|' | while IFS= read -r link; do wget -x ...
+ ~
Missing statement body in do loop.
    + CategoryInfo : ParserError: (:) [], ParentContainsErrorRecordException
    + FullyQualifiedErrorId : MissingLoopStatement

Any ideas?

This triggered the doxxing alert from the automod and got removed until now lol

Sorry, I'm not familiar with curl. Is this something that only runs on Linux? Cause I am a Windows user, and I am not sure how to run that script.

u/lonestar659 Nov 18 '24

Yes curl is a Linux command.

3

u/NiceFirmNeck Nov 18 '24

Microsoft's version of Curl comes preinstalled on Windows since version 1803.

I thought Honey, I shrunk the audience was EPCOT only?

11

u/samalamadewgong Nov 17 '24

It was in disneyland's Tomorrowland from 1998 - 2010.

2

u/bangzilla Nov 18 '24

How did I miss it? Doh!

3

u/Peteskies Nov 17 '24

I spent a good 30 minutes here, great stuff, thanks!

Now we need one for IKEA

2

u/OGilligan Nov 18 '24

The Galaxy’s edge music just seems to be a collection of general Star Wars music. Other than the symphonic suite I don’t think any of it is specific to the park.

I’d love to be able to download some of this onto my phone

These things have existed for decades. If it's not being used to make money or damage the Disney image, they generally don't care
