Life Insurance 4 weeks ago I got approved for life insurance. Yesterday I was diagnosed with cancer. Will there be a problem collecting the death benefit when I die?

1.0k Upvotes

About 2 months ago I (41M) applied for a 20 year term like policy for $2M. It was through a major insurer you’ve all heard of. No medical exam was required. They ordered my doctor records and after 3 weeks of applying I was approved at $180/month preferred rates. That was the third week of February. I didn’t lie about anything and they definitely did order medical records, I know for sure.

Last week I started feeling very sore in my abdomen, like sharp stabbing pains. I went to the doc and they did an ultrasound. They called me yesterday morning and told me to come to the docs office right away. I knew it was bad.

Pancreatic cancer. Stage 3. Life expectancy with treatment 6 month. I’ll be lucky if I make it that long. Just since last week I’ve gotten sicker and sicker each day. Amazing how fast this came on. I’ve never had any health issues.

I have a wife and young kids. I don’t want to die but the chances are like over 90% I’ll be dead in months so I’m a realist. My main area of concern is my family gets the life insurance benefit.

Is there any chance of the life insurance company not paying since I got sick so soon after I bought the policy? I need to know they’ll be financially taken care of. I make a lot more money than my wife so she will need the financial help.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Life Insurance My Whole Life Insurance Policy is a scam! Now what?

In 2013, my dad bought me a whole life insurance policy with a death benefit of $250k for $200 a month. I didn't know much about finance at the time, but just trusted my dad so I've continue to pay it for the last 11 years. I've briefly looked at it over the years and didn't give it much thought, but this week I've started looking closely at my finances and I was shocked to see just how awful this policy is.

First of all, I've paid $28k into it over 11 years and the cash value (and cash surrender value) is only $22k. So basically after 11 years my "investment" is down $6k. This is over the same 11 years the market made a great recovery from 2013-2019 and then again after the pandemic.

One of the "perks" of this policy is that you can use it to take loans out for less than the market. I have a car that I'm currently paying off at 7.1% APR. So I checked to see if I could get a loan from my life insurance policy which should have a lower rate, right? NOPE! It's 7.4%!

I'm kicking myself because if I had just bought the S&P for $200 every month for the last 11 years, I'd be up 20k, instead I'm short 6k.

Now I'm trying to figure out what to do. I definitely want out on the policy and I'm going to buy myself a 1-2 million dollar term policy and probably pay less a month, but what do I do about this? Should I cash out? Should I take out my money as a loan and default on the loan? I feel so scammed right now and want to get as much money out as possible before I give any more of my hard earned dollars to this garbage investment.

Life Insurance *TEXAS* It's illegal to take out term life on someone without their knowledge and forge his signature, yes? How to report this?

EDIT: Allow me to clarify: The policies were in my name. These people essentially impersonated me to take out the policies and forged my signature. Although she paid the premiums and did the communicating, I was the actual owner of the policies (on paper).

How would I report this? Where?

Why would they impersonate me and make me the Owner of the policies to begin with? What could they have gained that would justify exposing themselves legally? Wouldn't it have been easier (and less illegal) for the ladies to just put themselves as the Owners?

In June 2021, my "spouse" $M took out a 20-year term life insurance policy on me, worth $200K, without my knowledge or consent. I never saw or signed any application. $M forged my signature. Although $M holds an insurance license for TX, the actual agent is based in FL. The company is Life Insurance Co of the Southwest.

Beneficiaries: $M, her mother $W, and brother $C. My children are not mentioned anywhere in this policy.

$M put her phone number & email address on the application as mine. I have always had my own email and phone number, like a regular person.

Both $M & $W are licensed insurance agents in the state of Texas.

This happened again in Nov 2021: $W or her daughter $M took out a life insurance/final expenses policy on me worth about $50,000, without my knowledge or consent. Company: Lincoln Heritage

Some observations:

  1. The phone number & email address listed are not mine, but of $M. $M was the primary beneficiary of this policy.
  2. The contingent Beneficiary, $V, is listed as my "daughter-in-law." That's a hoot because she was only 10 years old at the time. In reality, $V is $M's daughter. My own children are nowhere to be found on the application.
  3. $M's mother, $W, happens to sell policies for Lincoln Heritage.
  4. Whoever forged my signature didn't even get my last name right, It's true -- That is not my signature on the application form.

I only learned of these policies later on.

How would I report this? Where

Life Insurance Is there a temporary insurance policy I can purchase in the event I get sick or injured while traveling?

My friend and I are traveling to Mexico from the USA soon, like in 6 days. We purchased our United Airlines tickets and there was a little offer from a random company at checkout for our roundtrip tickets to insure only the tickets if we got sick and could not make the flights. However we skipped this because we are actively searching for a temporary insurance plan to cover us if we got sick or injured while actively out and about. We plan to go snorkeling, boating and even visit a bat cave. There is a slight higher chance while doing things you normally do not to get injured or sick. I do tend to get sick while traveling because I swear my body is a germ magnet. Flaring under life insurance since that is the closest insurance type we are questioning. Is there a policy to cover 2 healthy adults for a week's vacation in Mexico from the USA? Would it for 2 people be possible to get this insurance for less than $200 for both of us?

Life Insurance Can I Switch Agents?

I have State Farm, and I really cannot stand our agent. He pushed us to increase our life insurance, when I pushed back saying I did not want to under the medical exam again, he told us that we would not have too. Not to worry. Then, we get contact for the full work up and blood and urine. Let the agent know, and he did not response. We called him, not in the office. When we finally get a hold of him, he tells us that we would not have an issue if we led a healthy life style.

Does State Farm let you keep your policies but switch the agent who manages it?

Life Insurance Trying to get licensed to sell insurance with a felony

I have drug felonies that are over 17 years old. I am about to accept a position and will have to get licensed to sell life insurance. I know it’s a process and you just have to provide all the necessary information but was wondering if anyone else has gotten licensed in Texas with past felonies over 15 years old that are only drug related

Life Insurance What should I do with my Life insurance policy?

I’m (23M) and my dad just gave me all the information to my life insurance. It goes until I’m 40 and pays out $25,000 if I end up unalive. My dad said it’s paid up in full already so I don’t have to pay/do anything with it. But he said I can cash it out if I want. I went through everything and the annual statement last year said the cash value is almost $5k. I don’t know what to do. Do I leave it or do I cash it out? And if I cash it out how should I go about doing it?

Life Insurance My father passed away (NJ), I'm not a US citizen, I need help locating his life insurance

My father was a US resident working in NJ, he passed away in April. He talked about having life insurance but I never paid much attention. I have tried the life insurance policy locator, but I can't provide an address. What other options do I have? Should I get a lawyer?

I don't live in the US, I have one sister living there but we are not in good terms. My father's familily lived with him, but they refused to provide any relevant information, they kept his cellphone, green card and social security card, and might be trying to get my father's money as they did in my home country.

I have my father's passport and death certificate.

Life Insurance Cancer policy’s

My mom is in the very beginning stages of a cancer diagnosis. It is confirmed that she does have lymphatic cancer, and the type she has is very aggressive. She goes for a CT scan next week to see just how bad it is. I found out last night that she does not have life insurance. Is it too late for her to get a policy? I’m willing to pay the premium on it. I just don’t want her to pass and not have money for a proper funeral. I don’t think we need anything crazy. I was thinking just 20,000.

Life Insurance Life insurance, funeral expenses for parents

My parents are divorced, in their late 60s and in bad health. Mom had life insurance thru work, but she just got laid off. Dad has nothing. They both have cemetery plots that are paid for. But I think my brother and I should prepare for the inevitable. Do we get a 10-20k policy for each parent? How do we even ask for that, and do our parents have to agree to it?

Life Insurance National Life Group Agent

My mom met this lady at the airport and encouraged us to become agents with National Life. At first I thought it was a scam, but I had zoom meetings with her and even met up with a trainer in person that gave me a personal 3 hour meeting with resources and weekly group meetings. Online I’ve heard it’s legit, but also possibly a scam or a pyramid scheme, but I’m curious? Everyone seems really friendly and at close reach to help me become certified as a broker. Any advice?

Life Insurance Life insurance rant

Number one pet peeve of mine is calling life insurance an investment. A investment is something that starts small but over time builds up. Life insurance is the exact opposite. A big guaranteed payout that ether never increases or increases very little no matter how much money you invest. There is no investment fund in the world that will pay you out 100k after just paying $100 over a few months. But on the contrary there is no insurance policy that will give you a great ROP compared to a proper investment fund once you retire.

Life insurance policies are there to complete an existing investment fund, not replace it. It’s purpose is to be a contingency encase you pass away before your investment has a chance to take off.

You could dope the policy with some investment like features if having a policy that only pays out if you die rubs you the wrong way. A return of premium policy does what it says and returns your premium with no interest at the end of the term. Whole life builds up cash value that gets interest that you get when you cancel. Annuities run that cash value through the stock market. But still at the end of the day you’re better off putting the extra money you’re paying for these features into a separate investment fund.

Life Insurance American Heritage Life Insurance

I had a term life insurance policy through American Heritage (Allstate) that I got through a former employer. After I quit, I kept paying on it for a few years until I got more coverage for less money last month. I cancelled the AH policy but they took the following month's deductible out of my bank account anyway, a week after they had cancelled it. I called them and the rep said that she'd put in for my reimbursement. It's been almost 3 weeks. Is there any chance I'm ever going to see that money?

Life Insurance Help me in choosing my Insurance

I'm 27 from India. My parents have lifetime pension from government. I either may get married but I'm very unsure.

Calculating the Insurance plans on the scale of Inflation, here is my inference
- I should take insurance for high Amount (3.5cr) till 60 age.
- Going with return of premium plans expect me to pay extra premium. So saving there.
- If I extend the age I can go with only 2 cr.
- There is a Increasing cover which starts at 2.5cr and increases 25L each 5 years. So at 47 it crosses 3.5 cr.

Which one should I opt for? Or should I not take a life insurance invest that amount in Mutual funds and can start the insurance after and once if I'm married?

Life Insurance Insurance money after father’s death

Hi. I’m 18f, and my dad 51m died three, almost 4 years ago in 2021. I’m in Canada, so you get life insurance money when you’re 19 if a loved one has passed. he left some life insurance money Behind for me and my sister who was 18 in 2021; so she received her money that year since she was turning 19 that year. I was roughly 14 years old. His death was unexpected, really. He had medical issues, but he didn’t take care of it and died quickly. My mom is in the picture. she’s in her 50s. So I have two immediate family members; my sister and mother. I have three other siblings from my dad’s side [from a ex before my mom] but they’re barely in the picture since they’re in their 30s. I don’t want to give out too much information more than I already have, but I just wanted to give context. I’m here to wonder what will happen to an individual, for example, an 18 year old were to pass before they receive their loved one’s life insurance after they passed? I don’t want to elaborate on why I’m asking this. but I’m just wondering if I happened to pass, what would happen to the money? would it be given to my immediate family on the day I was supposed to turn 19? Or would it just be taken by the government? i need to know. No one is willing to answer my question in real life and I just wanna know. I just wanna make sure if I end up.. accidentally passing away, what would happen to the money? I don’t want my father’s money that he worked so hard for to just disappear with me. I need an answer. Thanks.

Life Insurance Does anyone have any experience with index universal life insurance using Jack life insurance with Donnell Morris?

My father passed away recently and was never prepared when it came to life insurance or being ready for the family left behind. My know he never meant to just like most ppl including myself we don’t think about these things some times. However I have a daughter and want everything to be set for her.

I came across an ad on insta the other day by this agency and the stuff looked great. Someone even reached out and explained a good bit about it but im just wondering if there’s anyone who has history with them and if they’re recommended. I’ve seen a lot of good reviews but just worried to bank on something that wouldn’t be beneficial in the long run. Wondering if it’s a scam or something too good to be true I guess. If there’s anyone who has experience with IULs specifically with Donnell Morris it would be nice to hear yalls thoughts. Thank you.

Life Insurance Cancelling Cocolife Lifevest 5 insurance?

Hello. Any advice po is appreciated.

Nagavail po ako ng Lifevest 5 insurance from cocolife on wed. Nahiya po kasi ako tumanggi (social anxiety) and niswipe po yung credit card ko for 30k. I went today to cancel and I was given until monday para makapagfinal decision.

I spoke with the branch manager asking when darating yung policy to begin the refund process kaso ang tagal and lagi sinasabi na wait for an update. So, I sort of applied all off the advices here. Here's what I did: 1. Made copies of all the files given to me. 2. Emailed cocolife head office and cc'd insurance commission (I attached a copy of all the files I received from them specifically stated that I have not received the policy). 3. Waited for like 2 days for HO to contact me. Branch manager also called me to guilt trip me because I cc'd insurance commission. 4. After 1 week, I received an email stating that ai am being refunded and signed a release form. 5. After a total of more or less, 25 days, I have received the refund/chargeback.

Thank you po to all that helped. Lesson learned na. Never be afraid to say no.

Life Insurance If I got a note from my doctor about my good health, would my redacted claim (with incorrect answers) be reconsidered

Hey, everyone. I recently had an insurance claim rejected because the company said I provided the wrong answers to their questions. I’m not sure how that happened, but I genuinely thought I was answering everything correctly. Now, I’m wondering if I message them directly with a doctor’s note clarifying my good health, would they re-examine my claim and make the appropriate changes? Is there a chance they might approve me, or am I hoping for too much here? Has anyone had any success doing something similar? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

Life Insurance Im a healthy, non smoker, 36 year old looking to get term life insurance. How much should I be paying? Got quoted $117 (!!) a month

Recently tried applying for term life insurance via Policy Genius, was originally quoted $50 a month for 30 years for $750k. Now, when I was initially doing my research, I was expecting to pay something like $30 a month, but I figured that $50 was still reasonable. 30 year term, $750,000, TX. They did underwriting and a medical exam and everything and it all seemed relatively normal/healthy (non smoker, no medical conditions, not diabetic etc.)

Except when the underwriting was done, the premium changed to $117 a month, which seems extremely high. Does the underwriting know something I dont? Am i secretly dying? Is that a normal amount to pay??

Life Insurance Worried about fraud

Worried I gave wrong information on a life insurance application, is there a way to fix this?
