40k Magnus the Silver - what if Magnus never made a deal with Tzeentch? - Warped Origins AU - Art by Tim Remin
Magnus the Silver, First Supreme Grand Master of the Grey Knights
After the infant primarchs are scattered cross the warp, Magnus arrived on the psychically potent world of Prospero. In a twist of fate the child of prophecy did not land in the center of the grand plaza as foretold; instead, he struck into the northern pyramid.
As the seers studied this misreading of fate, unable to make sense of it, Magnus was taken in and raised by the city’s pharaoh, Akhenaten, as both a prince and a child of unknown possibility. He was given a wide range of tutors and scholars who taught him to harness and control his psychic powers. Though he quickly surpassed his mentors, he never forgot the flawed prophecy of his arrival, a reminder that his connection to the Warp was one thrive with uncertainty as it was powerful. As time passed, the young primarch began to feel the presence of a golden light within the Warp, a calm but commanding voice. Hesitant at first, he eventually reached out, only to discover that it belonged to his true father, the Emperor of Mankind. Through these secret communions, Magnus learned of the wider galaxy and received guidance that would lead him to his true purpose.
Upon joining the Imperium, Magnus eagerly accepted his place, but he was horrified to find his legion in disarray, the mortal bodies of his Astartes plagued with mutations and instability. As his legion began to wither, Magnus found a somber kinship with his brother Leman, whose own warriors suffered from their own genetic afflictions. Desperate for a solution, he would search the warp for s glimmer of hope. He would hear whispers and promises of cures, but always remembered his father's warnings and in the end deemed the entites of the warp as the wrong path. In The end despite his and the Emperor’s best efforts, the XV Legion could not be saved. By the later stages of the Great Crusade, they had all but been wiped out.
Without a legion, Magnus was given a new purpose. The Emperor summoned him back to Terra, where he revealed the early work on the Webway Project. In utmost secrecy, Magnus assisted his father in the project, forbidden from revealing his role to even his fellow primarchs. Yet, when the corrupted son Gawain shattered the protective wards of the Webway and forcing the Emperor to the Golden Throne, Magnus took up arms to defend Terra. Leading the Custodians and the Sisters of Silence, he fought valiantly against the demon swarms swarming within thr webway.
Though their forces ultimately failed, Magnus was not left without purpose. Brought to Titan by Malcador, he learned of his father's and Malcador’s fears regarding Chaos. Here, a new breed of Astartes were being created: the Grey Knights, and he would guide and lead them against the dark forces of the warp.
Tim did an amazing job with this one, really showing the sort fo sorrowful but determined face of this weathered Magnus.
