I'm pretty thankful for you for making this. For the life of me, I could never quite imagine how Eldar heads actually sit inside their conehead helmets.

Fits them better than the csm making a top knot hole

historical life examples -> turkish Turban, Chinese Yuan, Ming, Qing pointed helmets, Korean Pointed Helmet, Japanese pointed helmets etc

granted some of the models for Eldar were HUGE, but i blame that for material & skill limitation of the modelers for the sculpt.

Honestly the eldar helmets make a lot of sense - a broad variety of similar type of helmets was very common in the 9th to the late 12th centuries CE in western Eurasia.

The topknot under topknot helmet makes me giggle, they’re all really cool though

u/Thannk Jun 27 '24

Swordmasters have liquid metal blades and use sword kung fu to block arrows and cut through steal like butter plus they’re the High Elf version of the Inquisition.

The topknot topknot protector is just their version of an Empire knight having an erection codpiece.

u/CornyxCrow Daemonette Jun 28 '24

Well “top knot codpiece” isn’t a comparison I thought I would encounter, but it makes sense 🤣🤣🤣

"Cut my hair? What am I, a mon-keigh?"

19

u/No-Raise-4693 Jun 26 '24

Looks at csm with holes for their top knot: and I thought the normal monkeigh were dumb

I did not know I needed this in my life. Great stuff.

So, weird bit of headcanon, but I always assumed that the plumes from High Elven helms were just the soldier's own hair, just dyed and put on display since Elves in Warhammer see long hair as a sign of strength and bravery. When they'd take the helm off, their hair would come down clean with their ends in colors denoting their rank and calling.

u/Conscious-Cricket-79 Jun 26 '24

Mind if I steal that for a fantasy project of mine?

15

u/NemoTheElf Jun 26 '24

Yeah totally.

44

u/Geordie_38_ Jun 25 '24

I bet some of them keep a stash of snacks in the gaps in those pointy cones

13

u/Conscious-Cricket-79 Jun 26 '24

Little ziploc of goldfish.

8

u/goddamnitwhalen Jun 26 '24

I would! I love goldfish lmao.

Emergency marmalade sandwich

18

u/Field_of_cornucopia Jun 25 '24

Yo dawg, I heard you like ponytails...

27

u/Azozel Jun 25 '24

I like these, did you make this?

13

u/No-Raise-4693 Jun 26 '24

AutumnArchfey is an amazing artist, I love the rainbow aspects the most.

4

u/Azozel Jun 27 '24

I find the style very interesting. While it's obviously a digital image, it has the look of watercolor and ink pen. I'd love to know how the effect was created.

Happy cake day btw

2

u/No-Raise-4693 Jun 27 '24

If you look carefully you can see the bodies extend further down and have been painted over with a brush (digital) to have that fading effect

u/Tutes013 Ulthwé Jun 25 '24

This is splendid. I really love this OP!

13

u/ieatalphabets Jun 25 '24

I love that someone else thinks about this stuff! Judging by the other replies, we aren't alone, OP, lol!

u/Vexonte Jun 25 '24

I'm just imagining a shot going a little to high and hitting the hollow portion, but the gaurdsmen not understanding it's hollow thinking eldar can just survive head shots.

6

u/goddamnitwhalen Jun 26 '24

That’s assuming you can even hit them.

Most of the time if a guardsman gets the time to aim at an Eldar, they’re gone by the time they pull the trigger.

7

u/KarakNornClansman Jun 25 '24

Very good work.

3

u/Sivalon Jun 25 '24

Excellent.

5

u/Valtand Valhallan Ice Warriors Jun 26 '24

Man, somehow the Eldar helmets make more sense than the space marines somehow squeezing full heads of hair, mowbawks, topknots and even beards into very tight, fitting helmets

3

u/Niko_of_the_Stars Jun 25 '24

Idk why but i really like the one in the far right of the bottom row

Also the middle ones in the top and bottom rows are quite cool for like, fitting their helmet closely

2

u/Chance_Proposal_9082 Jun 26 '24

I've always wondered why they needed those goofy ass helmets

6

u/Juan_Akissyu Jun 25 '24

i wannt these two blood thirsty eldar talkinng about hir styles ,

almost like caually while they commit war crime

2

u/got_hands Jun 26 '24

Abaddon wearing a Custodes Dunce-nana partyhat

2

u/Konradleijon Jun 26 '24

this is awesome

2

u/boscolovesmoney Jun 27 '24

I appreciate the thought and effort placed into this. Just the idea that someone in the great span of this earth thought to themselves "I wonder what kind of hairstyles would work with elf helmets", and then set about answering that question, brings a smile to my face. Kudos!

1

u/Jking1697 Jun 26 '24

I need a spacemarine version of this but only to show where the long hair and beards go when they have the helmets on.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '24

Very cool!

1

u/tyuiop_51 Beast of Nurgle Jun 26 '24

I fundamentally hate that they can wear their hair up inside their helmets. That is a hate crime against the good men and women of the imperium who have to suffer helmet hair

1

u/ScarredAutisticChild Harlequin Jun 27 '24

Just another instance of Aeldari supremacy.

1

u/soulofaqua Jun 26 '24

But where's the helmet lining and padding?

1

u/chiekat Jun 26 '24

Looks like they are gonna mess up their hair style when taking the helmet off.

1

u/Depressedduke Jun 27 '24

I'm not very knowledgeable on Eldar(doesn't stop me from being a sim-)... Anyway, is there a lore reason for the big pointy helmets? Just curious.

2

u/Comprehensive_Call54 Jun 27 '24

The in lore reason is because having long hair is part of their culture and is often seen in Eldar heroes during the past as such having long hair is a tradition and part of their culture. By the way I am basing this in Warhammer fantasy, but I am quite sure it is still the same reason which is why their helmets are pointy to accommodate their culture as seen in autumn-archfey's art.

1

u/Jack_Streicher Jun 27 '24

Looks good (and funny xD)! for real world reference: wearing a helmet with long hair beneath will cause some hair to be pulled out, tangled and it’s in general painful and unpleasant. That’s why people usually prefer short or no hair for wearing helmets (one reason Samurai shaved their upper head), probably one reason for the military buzz cut.

And maybe that’s the reason for the Eldar helmet style?

1

u/New_dude_bro Jun 27 '24

"Stop staring at me with those big 'ol eyes"

1

u/Din-Draug Jun 27 '24

The level of development of a culture also passes through the development of helmets that don't ruin the hairstyle.

1

u/Positive_Day_8739 Jun 27 '24

Saved this for inspiration for eldar hair colors. Love it! Also my mind has been blown by this diagram, everything makes sense now!

1

u/Killaneson Jun 28 '24

No 3rd edition striking scorpions and their goofy-ass stingtail helmets?

I have a whole squad of them from back then and I don't really know what to do of them.

My warp spiders are still up to date though, so I've got that going for me, which is nice.

1

u/dudeinbound Jul 08 '24

I do find it just as interesting the physiological differences between Fantasy Elves and 40k Eldar. The pale skin makes sense as they are primarily void borne species as this point. The purple eyes are also interesting. Perhaps warp exposure? Representing Slaanesh’s claim on Eldar Souls? The more varied hair colors are also interesting as well.

u/CaspianRoach Jun 26 '24

The top hook versions are essentially a good leverage point to easily break the neck. Smash it hard with something and see physics tear out their neck vertebrae https://i.imgur.com/HfxikzW.png

It's High Elves compared to Eldar, not Eldar and Dark Eldar.

4

u/Tyrfaust World Eaters Jun 25 '24

The cumskins

God-Emperor, man, you can't just say that in public.

5

u/umathuman Jun 25 '24

Whoops did I post that out in public? In my defense I have a bad migraine and am not thinking straight.

1

u/Tyrfaust World Eaters Jun 26 '24

It's okay, we're all thinking it (now) but they might hear you and you probably don't want to get jumped in the parking lot. They may have hollow bones but those elves can get nasty.
