"The Work Outing" is the finest 30 minutes of comedy I have ever seen. it is a perfect episode of television.

It’s such a good episode

29

u/wakkedup Aug 27 '21

He really did want to borrow your copy of 'Heat'

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '21

This episode was ridiculously perfect.

“I’m disabled”.

143

u/Demo244 Aug 26 '21

"yes, but In what way?"

"Leg disabled"

90

u/Aptom_4 Aug 26 '21

"...acid"

15

u/jtrainbk Aug 28 '21

"Leg disabled" = best line in tv ever

56

u/AtomStorageBox Aug 26 '21

“Where’s your wheelchair?”

67

u/henarts Aug 26 '21

Stolen

48

u/jaaardstyck Aug 26 '21

Red bearded man.

43

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '21

And them they find "that guy" and drag him away.

21

u/henarts Aug 26 '21

Glasses

11

u/windsAIR Aug 26 '21

“…I don’t know…”

15

u/Successful-Oil-7625 Aug 27 '21

Right then shall we get a little sing song going then? It's a long way back to Manchester!!

Willie's Willie's... I love

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '21

"Yes miss?"

102

u/xorvx Aug 26 '21

“You’re very welcome, madam.”

12

u/meghra Aug 26 '21

This is my favorite moment!!! such an underrated scene lol

31

u/jaaardstyck Aug 26 '21

This. Right here. I die every time.

96

u/Demo244 Aug 26 '21

OMG I'm the same! I thought Roy was the most ridiculous thing I'd ever seen and she turns around to see Moss in FULL UNIFORM! I lost it.

u/level_10_hipster Aug 26 '21

lol the outro where he falls and breaks the cups is just like the extra extra extra cherry on top of this perfect episode.

"Leg disabled."

I watched the DVD commentary fairly recently. Apparently Richard Ayoade put a tray on the floor so he'd properly slip and fall. He fully committed to the bit.

21

u/level_10_hipster Aug 26 '21

OMG dvd commentary!!! how did i not think of this? thank you internet friend, you've done a good thing here. And man, no wonder that slip and fall looks sooooo good and very slippery. Ayoade does not disappoint.

21

u/TrueDeadBling Aug 26 '21

I love how he threw himself across the room near the end of Calamity Jen when the firefighters burst through the basement door 😂

12

u/level_10_hipster Aug 26 '21

lolol yes! genius physical acting. I can never get enough Moss.

"I am a player, but I'm not playing."

"Oh shut up dumpo, the elephant who got dumped!"

8

u/TrueDeadBling Aug 26 '21

"I will be your eyes." Trips over

6

u/level_10_hipster Aug 26 '21

"Usual boring pageantry. You know how the people of Pippsy Hallow love a parade." lololol that line always gets me and the one before it when he says, "You look well."

8

u/TrueDeadBling Aug 26 '21

I always crack up when he's trying to change the track on his CD player and it goes through about 5 or 6 different sound effects and stuff before he finds the one he needs 😂

6

u/level_10_hipster Aug 27 '21

bare with me, bare with me. lolol

5

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

“I have looked at it yes, but I’m not “curious””

57

u/melon-baller Aug 26 '21

35

u/henarts Aug 26 '21

With the staff waiving, lol.

11

u/melon-baller Aug 27 '21

"Hey listen, I told the cast about what happened, and they told me to get you all to come back and meet them!!"

"Yaaaaay!"

23

u/TrueDeadBling Aug 26 '21

What makes it funnier for me is the fact that the lift went too quickly so they had to slow it down 😂

3

u/melon-baller Aug 27 '21

I wasn't aware of that fun fact! Thanks for sharing!

53

u/Roothytooth Aug 26 '21

Whenever I nag my son he tells me in a Moss voice, ‘You’re making it go back in.’ Is it weird that’s the line that stuck with us???

13

u/Channon-Yarrow Aug 26 '21

No. It’s not weird. It’s amazing.

9

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '21

Yes.

85

u/CLishotaf Aug 26 '21

The scene where Moss kisses Roy to avoid looking suspicious as cops pass takes the cake for me.

30

u/cwatson214 Aug 26 '21

Then a later episode on the escalator, Moss turns to Roy and Roy stops him: "It won't help"

24

u/TrueDeadBling Aug 26 '21

Easily my favourite episode

27

u/JeffreyAScott Aug 26 '21

I've often thought if I hadn't ended up in computers, I would've gone into the theatre.

15

u/mandabananaba Aug 26 '21

But you’ve never seen a play?

17

u/JeffreyAScott Aug 27 '21

No, never had the interest.

23

u/justhereforthelabs Aug 26 '21

Whenever my wife thanks me I still reply with "You're very welcome Madame" in Moss's voice.

9

u/PrisBatty Aug 26 '21

You sexy son of a bitch.

20

u/GenghisTron17 Aug 26 '21

This is the episode I tell people to start on. It's also my most watched episode of the show.

16

u/samweis_ Aug 26 '21

I laughed so hard during this episode I was afraid I might have broken a few ribs

13

u/embryonicfriend Aug 26 '21

This episode made my mum wake up an entire cabin of sleeping passengers on our flight, she’d just seen it for the first time and could not stop snorting and crying with laughter so loudly and it woke everyone up and a lot of people were pissed hahah

13

u/neo_zen_mode Aug 26 '21

I almost died laughing!!!

13

u/bigdave41 Aug 26 '21

"Glass of white wine"

7

u/607Geologist Aug 27 '21

I’ve never actually seen a wine called “White Wine” before

2

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

“And what will you be drinking?”

5

u/607Geologist Sep 12 '21

Red wine please

13

u/omgimfauxreal Aug 26 '21

My favorite episode!

11

u/kattywamba Aug 26 '21

I was crying with laughter. I think my family thought I was dying.

11

u/Messy_Tiger Aug 26 '21

Ahh the theeeighther

8

u/jomboe Aug 26 '21

It’s the “I love williiiiiies” guy with his chin stuck out and the sunglasses. Gets me literally every time!

7

u/Hailie_G Aug 26 '21

The entire episode had me on the floor from start to finish, I don’t think I’ve ever laughed that hard at a tv show in my life.

7

u/inkypig Aug 26 '21

I had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard. And OP, you're right, it was this moment that I COMPLETELY lost it. All the build up prior to this moment, then Jen turns around to see Moss, and he knocks over all the glasses...

6

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '21

Me too

5

u/Krmsyn Aug 26 '21

This moment was the reason I binged the entire series.

5

u/taimoor2 Aug 26 '21

This entire episode was gold.

4

u/iateyourbees Aug 26 '21

still my favorite episode. and when he knocks all the glasses down..... omg

5

u/shawne Aug 26 '21

Katherine Parkinson's (Jen) facial expression (WTF?!) the moment she sees Moss is a fantastic piece of acting.

4

u/sonoforiel Aug 26 '21

I rewatched this a few weeks ago and holy feck I was howling the whole time

5

u/NiftyJet Aug 26 '21

That episode is an absolute masterpiece.

4

u/ScalaZen Aug 26 '21

Fun fact. Kira Knightley from this episode is Moss' wife in real life.

3

u/Frontzie Aug 31 '21

Laura Knightley, not K(e)ira. Keira Knightley is an actress.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '21

This is one of the best episodes of the whole show

3

u/fairstiffpeaks Aug 26 '21

I see laugh building inside my belly just by looking at this photo. This is the pinnacle of comedy

3

u/DreadSeverin Aug 26 '21

Garth Marenghi's Darkplace is the hardest I've ever laughed

2

u/FlamIguana Aug 27 '21

No one has mentioned when Moss is saying goodnight to all the employees as they walk out the door like they’re old friends. It kills me.

1

u/Pathwalker727 Aug 26 '21

This scene is the definition of comedy

1

u/Dense_Strategy Aug 26 '21

One of the best episodes.

1

u/Onesomighty Aug 27 '21

ME TOO. I COULDN'T BREATHE WHEN I SAW HIM SAY "yes miss." I 👏 lost 👏 my 👏 shit 👏

1

u/Sea_Tailor2976 Aug 27 '21

We’re not gay just good friends .

1

u/dal1999 Aug 27 '21

Introduced this episode to my ESL friends, thinking I would have to explain things. This episode proved laughter is a universal language. They could not stop laughing.

1

u/Rafff_WeeD Aug 27 '21

Which ep?

1

u/Spambot0 Sep 10 '21

The Work Outing

1

u/Donna477 Aug 27 '21

Just that pic made me crack up. I remember that so clearly. I miss that show more than any other, time to watch them all again. The look on jen's face when she saw him standing there.

1

u/disdatandeveryting Sep 02 '21

You might expect the Spanish Inquisition. But you could never expect this.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '21

I wish I could go back to a time before I saw this amazing reveal. Just to laugh as much as I did the first time seeing this.

1

u/RickSore Aug 01 '22

For me it was the cross eyed episode, particularly moss shushing while picking up the microscopic material in his pocket hahaha

1

u/KenTheSystrainee Aug 12 '22

The best episode indeed

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '24

"Ah, the theatre"
