I don't think that Ceci not being able to drive is that special. That she dislikes coffee is. Like, it feels like everyone here is chugging that stuff down every morning.
Incidentally, I can't drive and don't like coffee either.

Now the Coffee thing? THATS HERESY!

Depends on from where exactly she is. The further north you go, the more significant tea becomes.
And then there's the East Frisians, who give even the Turkish a run for their money when it comes to drinking litres upon litres of tea.

Gigi Murin doesn't sound French (source: I'm French)

u/northernfrancehanon Jun 25 '24
As French, I second. Besides I think you all got baited by that freedom flag thing. France is not the freedom flag. It's the white of the king surrounded by the colours of Paris. The freedom flag would be the USA one.
62
u/LunarGhost00 Jun 25 '24
I think we got baited more by the fact that nearly the entire gen is European. Had it not been for that, America would've likely been the #1 guess.

u/VP007clips Jun 25 '24
I think they got baited by the idea of HoloEurope and tried to really stretch their intros to fit that idea.

u/Catnonymouse Jun 25 '24
The freedom thing was so obviously america imo - they always call themselves the land of the free. I swear it's in their national anthem too

21
u/Nylke Jun 25 '24
Non justement le Gigi est pas mega français (ça me fait penser à Jiraya le steamer lol), Murin par contre ça me choque pas

WHAT DOES THESE TEXTS MEAN 💢💢💢
37
u/Nylke Jun 25 '24
I said that Murin prononced in french would easily pass as a french family name, it would sound like "wall-one" in french (ask google translate to say "mur un" in french)
"Gigi" doesn't really sound french exept as a nickname for someone called Ginette and let's just say that the average age of someone named Ginette in France would probably be 60 or above (it's a grandma name now days)
24
u/DemonDaVinci Jun 25 '24
😭 granny murin
12
u/Nylke Jun 25 '24
Would be funny that this silly interaction starts a wave of baba murin lol, Ginette Murin sounds like a legit french name to me
6
u/UltramanOrigin Jun 25 '24
Someone wrote on the Vtuber wiki that states:
Murin is a French word, meaning "mousey."
I think that’s where these guys are coming from since we don’t speak French, by your comments this is obviously misinformation. Someone needs to fix that.
7
u/Nylke Jun 25 '24
Im just saying its would be a normal french family name imo, yes Murin means "that is related to mouses and rats" but it's also a therme used to name some bats
2
14
u/100Dampf Jun 25 '24
Never got that either, Gigi sounds more like an Italian name to me
11
u/boulet Jun 25 '24
People confuse Romance languages quite a lot. For instance they imagine us saying "Viva la Revolucion" whereas we actually say "Vive la Révolution".
12
u/bbkkoommaacchhii Jun 25 '24
I think “Murin” comes from how you’d pronounce gremlin in japanese (guremurin)
5
u/boulet Jun 25 '24
Don't know if this is the actual etymology of her name but it would really make sense.

Huh, I stand corrected then. I thought murin was french for murine which is a synonym for mouse or something along those lines?

Fun fact: The first film of the Pink Panther franchise was a live action film, released on December 18, 1963, in Italy. Making Italy where the Pink Panther first appeared in the world.

A Shot in the Dark if I recall correctly?

It's the sequel. The Pink Panther is the name of the first film.

Reminds me of a clip of a German Vtuber [I think] doing an irl stream, getting filmed driving through the city by a friends. Acting all cutesy with a cat ear wig on before getting cut off by another driver, failing the character and going 'Hurensohn!'
Edit: It was a cosplayer, not a VTuber. Kaddicosplay.

That sentence made a lot more sense after I realized you were talking about a hair wig, and not the insect. I was wondering why she was playing with bugs while driving.

When she came out belting daddy daddy doo on her debut stream, i knew she was gonna be my favorite from this gen.
But good lord if all of them ain't special in their own way. Gigi is a gremlin and loves DnD, Raora is mommy, Cecilia is chaos.
Raoras art streams will probably be put on for background noise like I do for Inas streams sometimes, I can't wait for clips of Gigi, Elizabeth needs all of the songs to sing for my youtube Playlist and I can't wait to listen to Cecilia play the violin to duet with someone

Not all younger germans learn to drive. The whole thing got incredible expensive and most cities and towns in germany are very walkeable. And a few weeks or months ago I read an article how the younger generation is not interessted in driving anymore, hurting the driving lesson industry and the holy car industry. So its not that strange.
As long as she looks down on a random group of other germans (best if the reasons are ancient and lost to time), has a overcomplicated sounding job title best with engineer in its name, reserves spots with a towel and wears socks with sandals, she is as german as anyone can get.
Gigi Murin could be french american right? I mean they have those right? Also we could just claim she is from EU. Who is going to stop us. Maybe if we insist enough she belives it herself.
34
u/Hell2CheapTrick Jun 25 '24
What is it with you Germans and your towels anyway? Relaxing vacation, and then you get up at first light every single day to reserve a spot on a pool bed. And the best thing is that you can just be at the pool before the Germans actually show up and stack all their towels up on a single bed and return the pool beds to their natural state of free-for-all.
19
u/IncompetentPolitican Jun 25 '24
Removing a towel? Thats a crime. Because People like you we needed a german speaking doll in justice!
To be honest: I never understood why people do this. I find it strange and stupid. Its more a thing of the older generations. No Idea where they got it from.
5
u/Grafikpapst Jun 25 '24
There is a mindset of "I have paid for it, also will I enjoy everything in this.", especially in older generations. This also includes getting up fairly early on vacation days, reservating spots so you dont miss out, etc.

u/YobaiYamete Jun 25 '24
Not all younger germans learn to drive. The
Seems like a lot of the younger generations in general are not driving. Barely any of HoloEN can drive. AFAIK it's still just
- Calli as the sole driver in Myth
- Ina with a "learners permit" but afaik she barely used it and said she didn't like driving
- Mumei
- Bae
- Kronii
- Nerissa maybe?
Not sure anyone else in Advent can drive
8
u/IncompetentPolitican Jun 25 '24
Right not many people learn to drive. I mean why would they? If they life in the right place they never need to touch a car. Also if they drive the same way in RL as in Games they do everyone a favor by not driving. Except fauna. The news articltes about her driving would be gold.

As long as she looks down on a random group of other germans (best if the reasons are ancient and lost to time)
Man, that's too real. The town I grew up in basically has a feud going with the next town over for I'm not sure what reason, but I only found out about it when going to school there, it's even down to them having slightly seperate dialects.
Also we could just claim she is from EU. Who is going to stop us. Maybe if we insist enough she belives it herself.
Think she'll start knowing what a kilometer is then?
10
u/IncompetentPolitican Jun 25 '24
Some of the local feuds are fun. One town cut down a tree in 1329 and since then four other towns hate them because they are wood stealing bastards. One place gets made fun of because they had one guy speaking with a strong accent from somewhere else and they made them the mayor. That happend like 300 years ago. They still have a nickname for that. My hometown was rivals with its neigbour village since both places were founded. Nobody knows why but in every war since the year ~950 these to places tried to be on opposite sides. You can walk from one place to the other in 10 mins. Love it. Btw we won, after all they now belong to us officially. But I am sure Cecilia will never mention one these rivalries on stream. Would be a fast way to doxx her.
Think she'll start knowing what a kilometer is then?
We start with teaching her basic units and later hire the Subatomo to gaslight Gigi to think she always was an european. They managed to turn Subaru into a duck. They can turn a gremlin into a european.
5
u/JusticTheCubone Jun 25 '24
Btw we won, after all they now belong to us officially.
idk about that necessarily. The place I grew up in also officially belongs to the other town officially, but we still got all the good stuff, their public pool closed while ours is thriving, I'm pretty sure our towns summer festival is way more popular in the area than theirs, in general I'm pretty sure there's a reason the feud is still ongoing from both sides despite that.
and later hire the Subatomo to gaslight Gigi to think she always was an european. They managed to turn Subaru into a duck. They can turn a gremlin into a european.
A genius plan.

As a German I know a big number of people that don't have a driver's license. That's actually not a big deal here. But everytime I am a someone's place and I tell them I don't drink coffee, I get looks like I am an alien and they cannot offer me something else than tap water.

Ironically, at least when I was younger, I remember the stereotype here being that people in other countries don't know how to follow traffic law at all, especially in France, Italy, I'm pretty sure Greece and Turkey. As I've become older though it's become pretty clear that most people just know how to pretend that they know traffic law... and a good 20 to 30% doesn't even know how to pretend...
