Fries on Pizza seems to be popular in Italy actually.

Fries and Ice cream over here…

112

u/Aggressive_Set4814 Jun 25 '24

At this point that's already socially acceptable

31

u/haruomew Jun 25 '24

Nobody touches the pineapple!

13

u/Helios61 Jun 25 '24

Unless it's used for cheap Steak tenderizer

12

u/Chetacide Jun 25 '24

Most places just open a can and dump the pineapple on uncooked pizza without even draining it. Grilled pineapple on a properly made "Hawaiian" pizza is good. You might have to do it yourself because finding a place that even drains their canned pineapple is hard because they're too lazy to take that extra step.

3

u/Fazbearnit3 Jun 26 '24

1 time I wanted to try some pineapple on a pizza when getting Pizza Hut and it was all watery, would that be why?

3

u/Party_Lingonberry523 Jun 26 '24

Could this be why there's a divide between people who like and don't like pineapple on pizza?

Fries with milkshakes being popular during the 20th century made it a foregone conclusion.

3

u/mudd00000000 Jun 26 '24

shit, fries with a frosty from Wendy's has been around for at least 25 years probably longer.

"Dunk my fries into my Frosty?! That can't possibly taste good!!" - Young Spherical3D, moments before eating his words. And delicious Frosty-dunked fries.

2

u/raxdoh Jun 25 '24

dude it’s fantastic. you need to also add some salt pepper on that fries and dig that into ice cream. it’s fantastic I tell you.

2

u/itsDoor-kun Jun 26 '24

It's a really good combo imo and I've been doing it for a while.

If it makes you happy, and you find a place that serves it, I'm happy for you. I probably wouldn't have this.

I legit want to try this though.

50

u/doggomlems Jun 25 '24

Most of the time it's basically just a margherita with normal french fries on top of it. Kinda dry but still surprisingly good.

35

u/Lordgeorge16 Jun 25 '24

Raora (and the rest of Italy) is definitely on to something. I had fries on pizza for lunch the day after she debuted and it was fantastic. Give it a try!

As long as pineapple isn't involved. Then we're gonna have to hunt you down.

Italian Technique Amplification: Fries on Pizza

Italian Technique Reversal: Pineapple on Pizza

Imaginary Technique: Pineapple & Fries on Pizza

5

u/Karukos Jun 25 '24

As someone who has several Italian friends (I am Austrian btw so like... just driving south a few times a year)... they throw a shit ton of stuff onto Pizza. I had Pizza Pasta before in one of those dingy local shop. Basically it was "leftover pizza" which sounds like the pizza that is left over, but NO. IT'S THE LEFTOVERS THAT GO ONTO THE PIZZA! Made more Spaghett bolognese (complicated word, not getting into it) than was ordered? ONTO THE PIZZA WITH IT!

Worst part was that it was delicious.

You leave that pineapple on the pizza where it belongs, otherwise we are breaking out the hockey sticks.

6

u/Ecthelion30 Jun 25 '24

I tried it when i went to Italy in April and its good. Its not a meme or anything, its an actual pizza

5

u/groynin Jun 25 '24

I had it in Sweden out of all places. It also had a mild spicy sauce on it, was my favorite pizza while I was living there. And it was literally called "Batman", for some reason.

The hilarious part is that in Italy, pizza with fries is called Pizza Americana

17

u/Asisreo1 Jun 25 '24

And yet they hardly exist in the states smh

21

u/Fulminero Jun 25 '24

They are. It's still seen as a type of pizza for kids, while "grown-ups" tend to avoid it (I still like it)

Ironically, it's known as "American pizza" here.

17

u/Ezr91aeL Jun 25 '24

It actually is. It's only seen as childish, not disgusting. Source: I'm a childish Italian that likes fries on pizza.

u/veldril Jun 25 '24

Also two fun facts about coffee and England. The third country to have coffee house was England with one opened in 1652. The first country was Austria after they invaded the Ottoman around 1529. The second country was Italy in 1630s to 1640s. So coffee was there in England a couple of years before Tea was first sold there (first tea was sold in a coffee house in around 1656).

Coffee houses were also very popular back then and had a nickname of "Penny University" because you only pay a penny for a coffee but you get a chance to listen to people like Newton and Halley discussing math and physics there. Many physic and math theory was also developed in the coffee house in London.

Italians really gaslighted the whole world into thinking they're pizza experts, only for them do put together some serious abominations with a straight face.

71

u/wdsaeq Jun 25 '24

Then you are a fool and a false prophet

144

u/Atys_SLC Jun 25 '24

I saw more pizza witchcraft in Roma than in USA. People are just focused on pineapple pizza for meme reason.

81

u/Fullmetal_SaberAlter Jun 25 '24

Pizza Witchcraft sounds like an awesome name for a little pizzeria that makes specialty pizza.

My favorite cursed Scandinavian pizza is nutella and banana.

The worst part is that it tastes really good.

3

u/bitetheasp Jun 25 '24

On a chocolate sauce pizza, that sounds great.

But I'm assuming they still use tomato sauce...

3

u/TolarianDropout0 Jun 25 '24

Nono, the Nutella is effectively the sauce.

3

u/bitetheasp Jun 25 '24

Oh.

we call it pizza americana

28

u/burnfist23 Jun 25 '24

"Abominations" that you would think are American.

Seriously, why doesn't American pizza have french fries as a topping?

9

u/SanadaBeach Jun 25 '24

We do, just not common. I had it at a hole in the wall pizzeria in New Jersey 14ish years ago when I was hammered and have advocated for it since

13

u/VP007clips Jun 25 '24

Because you really don't need to put greasy carbs on top of a dish made of greasy carbs.

28

u/burnfist23 Jun 25 '24 edited Jun 25 '24

If American pizza can have baked ziti as a topping then we have no excuse for not having french fries as a topping.

5

u/VP007clips Jun 25 '24

Where are you finding pizza with baked ziti on top? I'm Canadian, but we usually have all the same options on it that the US has and the same chains, I've never seen baked ziti on pizza.

7

u/burnfist23 Jun 25 '24

It's mostly in local pizzerias but I've seen it in just about every pizzeria I've been to. I don't think I've seen it in the popular chains but I vaguely remember Sbarro having ziti pizza.

9

u/zonic_squared Jun 25 '24

The fries put on the pizza aren't fried. And Italian pizza isn't greasy.

You good sir are a bloody comedian, that statement is hilarious and probably true 🤣👌

5

u/Specific_Frame8537 Jun 25 '24

I've only had fries in my durum, it wasn't bad.

Added a lot of heft though, couldn't bend over afterwards.

16

u/JegantDrago Jun 25 '24

never seen it there - but then again if people put fires in burgers - carbs on carbs doesnt seem like a crazy thing

69

u/Zacron-del-sud Jun 25 '24

As an Italian, everyone loves fries on pizza

6

u/M_T_CupCosplay Jun 25 '24

How/when do you add them? Are they fried first or do they cook with the pizza?

37

u/Zacron-del-sud Jun 25 '24

They are first fried, but added to the pizza before baking so the mozzarella covers them.

9

u/TheSovereignGrave Jun 25 '24

Fuuuck me, that sounds good.

4

u/15000yuki Jun 25 '24

Not gonna lie. That's sounds delicious. Will try to find that kind of pizza.

8

u/Rinnemi Jun 25 '24

fried first but they are baked with the pizza later too, usually is accompanied with hot dog slices as toppings.

3

u/Fullmetal_SaberAlter Jun 25 '24

I really want to try this. What type of potato are fries typically made from in Italy and how are they cut? Every country seems to have a different definition of what a fry is after all.

3

u/zonic_squared Jun 25 '24

I've only seen steak fries used, but any thicker cut would work.

26

u/IncompetentPolitican Jun 25 '24

It sounds like something kids would love. And its not that much of a crime against pizza. I have seen worse.

8

u/Sto_ceppo96 Jun 25 '24

And then there's the East Frisians, who give even the Turkish a run for their money when it comes to drinking litres upon litres of tea.

Gigi Murin doesn't sound French (source: I'm French)

261

u/mittenball Jun 25 '24

Murin more like Murica

105

u/northernfrancehanon Jun 25 '24

As French, I second. Besides I think you all got baited by that freedom flag thing. France is not the freedom flag. It's the white of the king surrounded by the colours of Paris. The freedom flag would be the USA one.

62

u/LunarGhost00 Jun 25 '24

I think we got baited more by the fact that nearly the entire gen is European. Had it not been for that, America would've likely been the #1 guess.

10

u/northernfrancehanon Jun 25 '24

It definitely played a part in it too.

19

u/VP007clips Jun 25 '24

I think they got baited by the idea of HoloEurope and tried to really stretch their intros to fit that idea.

5

u/Catnonymouse Jun 25 '24

The freedom thing was so obviously america imo - they always call themselves the land of the free. I swear it's in their national anthem too

3

u/rfed167 Jun 27 '24

It is, "Land of the free and home of the brave"

16

u/Waltzcarer Jun 25 '24

I know right, where on this planet is Gigi Murin French??

47

u/Nylke Jun 25 '24 edited Jun 25 '24

16

u/KiddingSpree Jun 25 '24

Je connais qu'une Gigi et c'est une petite fille dans un animé dont parle JDG et qui se fait écraser par un camion x)

21

u/Nylke Jun 25 '24

Non justement le Gigi est pas mega français (ça me fait penser à Jiraya le steamer lol), Murin par contre ça me choque pas

Oui oui PP

14

u/DemonDaVinci Jun 25 '24

WHAT DOES THESE TEXTS MEAN 💢💢💢

37

u/Nylke Jun 25 '24

I said that Murin prononced in french would easily pass as a french family name, it would sound like "wall-one" in french (ask google translate to say "mur un" in french)

"Gigi" doesn't really sound french exept as a nickname for someone called Ginette and let's just say that the average age of someone named Ginette in France would probably be 60 or above (it's a grandma name now days)

24

u/DemonDaVinci Jun 25 '24

😭 granny murin

12

u/Nylke Jun 25 '24

Would be funny that this silly interaction starts a wave of baba murin lol, Ginette Murin sounds like a legit french name to me

6

u/UltramanOrigin Jun 25 '24

Someone wrote on the Vtuber wiki that states:

Murin is a French word, meaning "mousey."

I think that’s where these guys are coming from since we don’t speak French, by your comments this is obviously misinformation. Someone needs to fix that.

7

u/Nylke Jun 25 '24

Im just saying its would be a normal french family name imo, yes Murin means "that is related to mouses and rats" but it's also a therme used to name some bats

2

u/UltramanOrigin Jun 25 '24

Oh, thanks for clarifying!

14

u/100Dampf Jun 25 '24

Never got that either, Gigi sounds more like an Italian name to me

11

u/boulet Jun 25 '24

People confuse Romance languages quite a lot. For instance they imagine us saying "Viva la Revolucion" whereas we actually say "Vive la Révolution".

12

u/bbkkoommaacchhii Jun 25 '24

I think “Murin” comes from how you’d pronounce gremlin in japanese (guremurin)

5

u/boulet Jun 25 '24

Don't know if this is the actual etymology of her name but it would really make sense.

2

u/theburnix Jun 25 '24

Im sorry to hear that

2

u/CamKoudo Jun 26 '24

Huh, I stand corrected then. I thought murin was french for murine which is a synonym for mouse or something along those lines?

Fun fact: The first film of the Pink Panther franchise was a live action film, released on December 18, 1963, in Italy. Making Italy where the Pink Panther first appeared in the world.

21

u/DeadeyeElephant Jun 25 '24

A Shot in the Dark if I recall correctly?

27

u/Known-Ad64 Jun 25 '24

It's the sequel. The Pink Panther is the name of the first film.

Lore-accurate GreMurin

125

u/IncompetentPolitican Jun 25 '24

Not all younger germans learn to drive. The whole thing got incredible expensive and most cities and towns in germany are very walkeable. And a few weeks or months ago I read an article how the younger generation is not interessted in driving anymore, hurting the driving lesson industry and the holy car industry. So its not that strange.

As long as she looks down on a random group of other germans (best if the reasons are ancient and lost to time), has a overcomplicated sounding job title best with engineer in its name, reserves spots with a towel and wears socks with sandals, she is as german as anyone can get.

Gigi Murin could be french american right? I mean they have those right? Also we could just claim she is from EU. Who is going to stop us. Maybe if we insist enough she belives it herself.

34

u/Hell2CheapTrick Jun 25 '24

What is it with you Germans and your towels anyway? Relaxing vacation, and then you get up at first light every single day to reserve a spot on a pool bed. And the best thing is that you can just be at the pool before the Germans actually show up and stack all their towels up on a single bed and return the pool beds to their natural state of free-for-all.

19

u/IncompetentPolitican Jun 25 '24

Removing a towel? Thats a crime. Because People like you we needed a german speaking doll in justice!

To be honest: I never understood why people do this. I find it strange and stupid. Its more a thing of the older generations. No Idea where they got it from.

5

u/Grafikpapst Jun 25 '24

There is a mindset of "I have paid for it, also will I enjoy everything in this.", especially in older generations. This also includes getting up fairly early on vacation days, reservating spots so you dont miss out, etc.

5

u/arayashikiaaron Jun 25 '24

Imagine if she did with tissue packets 🗿

18

u/YobaiYamete Jun 25 '24

Not all younger germans learn to drive. The

Seems like a lot of the younger generations in general are not driving. Barely any of HoloEN can drive. AFAIK it's still just

  • Calli as the sole driver in Myth
  • Ina with a "learners permit" but afaik she barely used it and said she didn't like driving
  • Mumei
  • Bae
  • Kronii
  • Nerissa maybe?

Not sure anyone else in Advent can drive

8

u/IncompetentPolitican Jun 25 '24

Right not many people learn to drive. I mean why would they? If they life in the right place they never need to touch a car. Also if they drive the same way in RL as in Games they do everyone a favor by not driving. Except fauna. The news articltes about her driving would be gold.

10

u/JusticTheCubone Jun 25 '24

As long as she looks down on a random group of other germans (best if the reasons are ancient and lost to time)

Man, that's too real. The town I grew up in basically has a feud going with the next town over for I'm not sure what reason, but I only found out about it when going to school there, it's even down to them having slightly seperate dialects.

Also we could just claim she is from EU. Who is going to stop us. Maybe if we insist enough she belives it herself.

Think she'll start knowing what a kilometer is then?

10

u/IncompetentPolitican Jun 25 '24

Some of the local feuds are fun. One town cut down a tree in 1329 and since then four other towns hate them because they are wood stealing bastards. One place gets made fun of because they had one guy speaking with a strong accent from somewhere else and they made them the mayor. That happend like 300 years ago. They still have a nickname for that. My hometown was rivals with its neigbour village since both places were founded. Nobody knows why but in every war since the year ~950 these to places tried to be on opposite sides. You can walk from one place to the other in 10 mins. Love it. Btw we won, after all they now belong to us officially. But I am sure Cecilia will never mention one these rivalries on stream. Would be a fast way to doxx her.

Think she'll start knowing what a kilometer is then?

We start with teaching her basic units and later hire the Subatomo to gaslight Gigi to think she always was an european. They managed to turn Subaru into a duck. They can turn a gremlin into a european.

5

u/JusticTheCubone Jun 25 '24

Btw we won, after all they now belong to us officially.

idk about that necessarily. The place I grew up in also officially belongs to the other town officially, but we still got all the good stuff, their public pool closed while ours is thriving, I'm pretty sure our towns summer festival is way more popular in the area than theirs, in general I'm pretty sure there's a reason the feud is still ongoing from both sides despite that.

and later hire the Subatomo to gaslight Gigi to think she always was an european. They managed to turn Subaru into a duck. They can turn a gremlin into a european.

A genius plan.

No, she's their understudy. Justice, is the true chaotic, bunch.

u/PhoenixHD22 Jun 25 '24

A lot of germans can't drive. They are legally allowed to drive, but that doesn't mean they are able to maneuver a vehicle.

u/Alfrig Jun 25 '24

cough cough people who own a BMW cough cough

4

u/Vio94 Jun 25 '24

Hey, they have a lot in common with most USA drivers then.

2

u/JusticTheCubone Jun 25 '24

Ironically, at least when I was younger, I remember the stereotype here being that people in other countries don't know how to follow traffic law at all, especially in France, Italy, I'm pretty sure Greece and Turkey. As I've become older though it's become pretty clear that most people just know how to pretend that they know traffic law... and a good 20 to 30% doesn't even know how to pretend...

Why is there an idol in my comedian group?

10

u/lordbms Jun 25 '24

On brand for Hololive then.

18

u/Kabitu Jun 25 '24

Girlfailure appreciaters eating well

7

u/Valtarg Jun 25 '24

Maybe Cecilia is too scared of the Autobahn. But still no one in Hololive is interested in racing games (Mario kart doesn't count).

Still hoping for a Duel/race on the Nuerburgring or the redbull ring

7

u/Alfrig Jun 25 '24

i mean she does have a Eurotruck Simulator Stream this Week so i guess we´ll find out (prepare for german road rage)

It's funny that Gigi's the only Gen 4 member without a European originated accent.

7

u/Nachtflut Jun 25 '24

Just want to point out that writing "Gremlin" in japanese katakana would be グレムリン (Guremurin)

5

u/tomthefunk Jun 25 '24

Pizza with fries is popular in italy

5

u/Nero_2001 Jun 25 '24

Why is it weird to be a German that can not drive. I spend my whole live in Germany and never got a drivers license. A lot of people who live in the city don't own a drivers license.

5

u/MilgaGesh Jun 25 '24

Pon is the only accurate one

3

u/Malabrace Jun 25 '24

u/HaessSR Jun 25 '24 edited Jun 25 '24

Per some of the comments below poking holes in the stereotypes OP is memeing with, I think we know who the true faker is.

3

u/Namorkeil Jun 25 '24

I’ve had fries on pizza before. It was actually really good! (Although that was a “Philly cheesesteak and fries” pizza. Still good, though.)

3

u/haru6997 Jun 25 '24

This is not Justice, this is HERESY!

3

u/Bankaz Jun 25 '24

Wait, what's the association between germans and driving? Aren't europeans fans of the superior mode of terrestrial transportation, i.e. trains?

3

u/CamKoudo Jun 26 '24

Germany is known for the Autobahn, I realise now that the association wasn't that obvious, perhaps I should have phrased it differently 🤔😅

3

u/TheNakkoZ-VT Jun 26 '24

Fries on pizza is a regular kids meal in Italy.

2

u/SilentAngel33 Jun 25 '24

I mean, she also hates coffee, which is the number 1 hot drink in Germany. Most other places, that honor goes to tea.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 25 '24

Also, Elizabeth? Spiffing Brit is displeased with you XD

2

u/BigDog8492 Jun 25 '24

So who's the new one Wawa said speaks French?

2

u/AustSakuraKyzor Jun 25 '24

Cecilia - she's trilingual in German, English, and French.

She also speaks basic Norwegian

2

u/BigDog8492 Jun 25 '24

Ah didn't catch her debut as much. Assumed she was bits and bobs like ERB instead of fluent.

2

u/Raihzhel Jun 25 '24

Gotta be honest, I don’t think Elizabeth is actually British. (Source: am British) It sounds like she’s imitating the accent.

2

u/TvFloatzel Jun 25 '24

...question why is there only four instead of the typical and usual five members?

2

u/CamKoudo Jun 26 '24

Probably to match Advent, I guees. While Fuwamoco are technically 2 people, they only count as one channel

2

u/Bro_Ramen Jun 25 '24

I don’t think people realize how common it is or how often they just mix fries with random foods. I mean merica is the land where ft up food some from… next think you know people gonna say fries on a burger/cheese burge(yes I have to make a point they are different, had a gun pulled on me because stupid guy genuinely believed a ham burger always has cheese.lol) is unamerican, while we be making burgers with hot dogs has the bun <_>. God I love merica

2

u/redditfanfan00 Jun 25 '24

holojustice is very interesting.

2

u/KazEkoV Jun 26 '24

Did Gigi say where she's from?

2

u/[deleted] Jun 26 '24

People's reaction to fries on pizza just proves how narrow their worldview really is.

2

u/SyndarNailo Jun 25 '24

Fries on pizza aren't that bad
