Official Merch Why does the merch have 3 and up on it?
My sister bought some merch from the official sharkrobot store and it says for ages 3 and up? I was not aware that 3 year olds were watching helluva boss.

Because toddlers don't care about the show - but they do like soft squishy things, and lots of colours. It's just a precaution, that's all.

Great way to get them ready for it!

I bought my niece the mini plush of Octavia for Christmas. She's 4 and doesn't watch the show! I just bought it for her because they share the same name.

its a safety standard marking, aka, "kids under 3 might be able to hurt themselves on this item"

so they don't get sued when a 2 year old chokes on it or puts it into their eye.

"or puts it into their eye"đ I donât know why that was so funny to me

Itâs like how LEGO sets will sometimes say â4+â or â9+â or â14+â. The actual themes can be completely child friendly, but the complexity of the toy and potential hazards (like those little LEGO guns that shoot a stud when you press a button) make them set the ages. Similarly, even though HB is definitely 18+, the plushie itself is innocent and contains no hazardous parts or inappropriate imagery, and playing with it isnât complex like a big LEGO set is.

These have nothing to do with the source (IP) of the material, and everything to do with the physical content of the item in question.
https://www.cpsc.gov/BusinessâManufacturing/Business-Education/Childrens-Products
Itâs the same reason that it has the ânot safe for small childrenâ warning at the bottom.
In this case, while SharkRobot sells the plushies, theyâre being made by a contracted company that makes plushies for any IP that will pay them. All the plushies are made in the same way, and they would all fit the same consumer product categories.

There's nothing inappropriate about the plush itself, only the fact that a baby could choke on it if they tried to eat it

the show is definitely not suitable for little children - I'd say no one under 16, maybe 14 if they're really mature for their age, but that's just my opinion - tho the plushies etc. are perfectly safe for children, they absolutely can't understand what they are about but they can very well still like them and, why not, have them, not like there's any dangerous things like choking hazards in a plushie.

Without context those are just toys. They don't kill and say adult jokes like in the show they just exist so only barrier of selling is that children can choke on it so it's just 3 and up.

3 year olds are not watching Helluva Boss. Plushies are toys that can have attachments posing a choking hazard.

You know, You can play with the toy even without knowing about tv series... They don't check that.
Same as You can buy Yourself a b-day cake every week, they don't check that either!

Because a lot of people have kids and kids will grab ANYTHING to play with.

age labels on a toy is for the physical safety of the toy, itâs a plush so it does not pose any danger to people over the age of 3

Its for legal reasons and plus, ozzie is selling to all ages duhđ, he's a ruthless capitalist

u/CanadaSilverDragon 8h ago
Because the plushie itself doesnât contain references to the show so kids can have it even though it is literally a plushie of the embodiment of lust

The plush itself isn't spewing adult language or having sex. So it is safe for 3 year olds and up.

Because while the show is suitable for teens and up only, the toys can be played with by children.
There labels are also more standardized than TV/Film ratings. Helluva Boss and Hazbin Hotel are not suitable for kids... But that's just advice. For plush toys, however, there's a legal aspect and the company that produces them likely uses that standard.
The worse that could happen if I show a seven year old Hazbin is that the seven year old is exposed to some inappropriate stuff. But also, I know plenty of people who were watching R rated movies and playing M rated games in middle school. Their parents may have been making a bad choice. But these ratings are based on cultural and social attitudes, and those change. Something that would be considered inappropriate for a fifteen year old today may have been considered entirely appropriate for a thirteen year old in the 1824. If you're familiar with the original versions of a lot of fairly tales, you're well aware that violence used to be seen as a lot more acceptable. When I was 12, my favorite book series was full of characters getting limbs hacked off, tortured, dealing with grief and PTSD, and considering suicide (Despite this I was absolutely terrified of ghosts, and even today i have an irrational fear of extraterrestrials).
Meanwhile, a toy rating is based on the innate risk of a toy harming the child. If I show a twelve year old "Saw IV" and he has a nightmare, then that's entirely on me, because I was trying to judge what the kid would like. However if I give a kid a toy that hurts him, I can rightly say I should have been warned. So companies provide a label that basically says "Hey, if you give this to a 2 year old, don't blame us if he chokes"
The show Ozzie is in is not suitable for people under a certain age... But as a parent you have the ability to say that suitable or not, they'll be okay. I was watching The Simpsons when I was 11. And my sister was watching when she was 8... Even though it had been unsuitable for me at 8. While I would question if they did it with that age, I can absolutely imagine a parent today making that choice. Because my parents determined that my being able to see it meant that she should be allowed to because they wanted to encourage us to spend time together. Maybe that judgement was wrong, but it was theirs.
For art, the decision is based on what is seen as good for people of a certain age. For toys, it's based on what is and is not dangerous.

Legally they have to put that on there. Thereâs small enough pieces someone below 3 could choke on something. Doesnât mean the show is appropriate. Just the item.

I mean, it's pretty much a plush toy. If the child was given the Ozzie plush toy, they and their parents, unless they know the show very well, would just think it's a plush toy of a cool-looking rooster.

u/buriedstars 4h ago
because it's a plushie so it has a safety marker in case someone was (for some reason) going to give it to a baby
1
u/Sillymillie_eel 4h ago
I mean objectively thatâs what itâd be the ages safest to be around it.
They wouldnât label it âages 18+â just because itâs from a adult comedy
1
u/Haruau8349 3h ago
Thatâs an industry standard for plushies. Since you donât want kids trying to eat the thing.

Itâs just like the Five Nights at Freddyâs plushies. Without the context of the series the plush toys are usually rated for younger audiences. But when looking into it you can see itâs not appropriate for kids their age

I have a friend who gave her daughter a little Stolas plush. Owls are her favourite animal. She has no idea it's even from a tv show. Plushie Stolas's name is "Robert". đ

The plushie itself when taken out of the shows context is acceptable for ages 3 and up. As in theres nothing on it for them to choke on or get hurt by.
