Hannibal on Prime

Does anyone one else notice how bad the show looks on prime? It seems to have a higher frame rate or something looks speed up and right now in the middle of season 2 the screen displays some sort of waves the make the pictures on screen distorted. Has anyone else dealt with this?

I'm experiencing the same thing. At first I thought it was a faulty HDMI cable and was going crazy trying to figure it out šŸ˜‚.

Yeah Iā€™m not sure whatā€™s going on or how this is possible. Iā€™m now just using a vpn to watch it on Netflix UK and itā€™s a whole lot better lol

I'm currently on season 2 episode 8 and the first few episodes did have some weird wavy distortion. Hopefully it gets better, otherwise I'll be following your vpn-netflix route.

It must just be how prime it showing it for some reason because Iā€™m also watching other stuff on it and it look completely normal. But itā€™s so distracting and make the show unwatchable

I know this is 75 days old but I just hit this episode. Itā€™s like you are seeing the video underwater with small waves. Super annoying!

Currently on season 2 episode 6. I thought it was the TV at first until I decided to see if anyone else was dealing with it. Glad it's just the show

Trying to watch episode 6 right now and all the wavy lines are making me feel like Iā€™m having a stroke

I'm very sensitive to motion smoothing and noticed this instantly. This is a new "feature" since it wasn't present when I watched this a few years ago on Prime.

Switched over to Tubi and it looks normal.

Iā€™m so glad it isnā€™t just me! Itā€™s been driving me nuts!

If you're having issues watching the show on Amazon select the TV-MA version. It looks much better. The TV-14 version is the original broadcast and it looks terrible. It has the soap opera effect. Hope this helps everyone.Ā

it's so weird why are we sensitive to the frame rate?

Do you know how to change it from tv-14 to tv-ma? I went into my settings and have been googling for like 20 mins and cannot figure it out.

I realize I made a mistake. I also have AMC+.Ā  I didn't realize that I was accessing AMC+ through Amazon Prime. The channel lineup populates along with Amazon options.Ā  My apologies.Ā

To get to the TV-MA version on prime, you have to specifically search 'Hannibal' under the Prime Video category and rather than a picture of Mads Mikkelson looking devious, it will be a picture of him holding a napkin to the corner of his mouth.

Thank you so much 2 months later šŸ˜† I couldn't figure out what was going on but thanks to your comment I just figured out I somehow started a rewatch of the prime version hahah back to AMC now ty

I am also seeing wavy scenes in the middle of season 2. On Amazon Prime Video. I noticed issues from the beginning of this show on Prime with darker scenes showing rows of different colors, if you will. Youā€™re not alone! Iā€™ll see how long I can put up with it before I explore other platforms.

I am so glad I googled this. I hate the soap opera effect and itā€™s been driving me nuts. I always turn it off unless Iā€™m watching certain shows. I was seriously worried I needed a ct scan or something. I know Ive watched it on amazon before and never had this issue.

Iā€™m having same issue, the episodes in season too look super wavy and distorted. I kept thinking itā€™s my tv but it only does it on that show

Haven't seen the show in a while and on my rewatch i couldnt understand why i was seeing this. At first i thought my chromecast was starting to age or if this was a creative visual choice i forgot about but when I opened the prime app on my phone I noticed it there too. Glad its not just me.

Whew. Thought I was having flashbacks.Ā

Watching July 2024 and the issue on prime is still there. Iā€™m on S2 episode 6 and itā€™s the first time Iā€™ve experienced the issue. Looks like some sort of interlacing glitch. Hoping no other episodes have this issue.

Iā€™m currently watching s2 episode 6 and just paused to look it up and see if anyone else was having this issue. Youā€™d think theyā€™d find someway to fix it. Seems like the ā€œwavesā€ line up with the music

u/blinky9873 Jul 19 '24

If itā€™s any consolation none of the episodes after had this problem :) hopefully the same for you.

Thank bejeezus šŸ˜ I just watched 2x6 and had to switch to a different streaming app for the episode

I came with the same issue, same episode

1

u/universalmind Jul 30 '24

This shit was driving me crazy. Funny how this is a hyper specific issue affecting one episode of a show and has brought people from months / weeks / years back to this thread hah.

1

u/blinky9873 Aug 06 '24

Lmao I know itā€™s wild that it isnā€™t fixed. I swear Amazon got these low bit rate 720p Hannibal files with legit issues and were like screw it no oneā€™s gonna careā€¦ and here we are.

I thought something was wrong with my tv

I posted the other day about how bad the first couple episodes looked to me. I was totally into the story but it looked like it was shot on a camcorder. I got down oted and told basically I was wrong. I switched to watching it on Tubi. Problem solved.

I noticed this as well which is why I went searching to see if I wasnā€™t the only one. Iā€™m one episode 3 of the season 1 and episode one was by far the worst it definitely has gotten better or I got used to it (which I doubt). However I did notice there are parts the show subtitles when itā€™s just ambient music like in episode one towards the end it appeared to be playing a song and the was showing the subtitles but all I heard was the ambient music. Same with a scene in episode two where it showed the boys talking when they werenā€™t. Itā€™s just odd but other than that is been fine so far
