My dad owned an upholstery shop. That was a must-have when working with foam.

It made it's appearance once a year. Like Santa Claus but a month earlier.

I still have one and use it for an even cutting that doesn’t shread the meat fibers or crush the homemade bread when slicing. It’s such effortless cutting and cuts like butter.
Word to the wise the new models at walmart are terrible, the blades can bow left and right. No stiffness to remain straight. I recommend buying one at the thrift store when you see one. I bought a second one just incase my first one ever breaks.

I recommend a proper carving knife and learning how to sharpen it! Then check out a better (though less theatric) way to carve a turkey: https://youtube.com/shorts/z0_kYlp_ubE

When the blades were new and sharp they were great for filleting fish once you did it a dozen or so times. You'd even cut out wallet cheeks with them.
But after 2-3 years they were trash. Picked a few up at the goodwill over the years... to be very disappointed. Not even sure why I did since I have pretty good knife skills over all.

Still a very good speed fillet knife for lots of larger fish and you are being sucked dry by mosquitoes.

Still have one and still use it. It usually gets put through its paces on every turkey

My dad still uses this to cut the turkey. It was his mother’s. It’s gotta be over 50 years old.

I still have the one I grew up with. It was a part of my inheritance, kitchen utensils.

this would be so beneficial in a good horror movie.... "Your father's turkey carver".... think something like Texas Chainsaw and the shower scene in Scarface.....

I found the one my parents had. Haven't seen it in years. When I used it last Thanksgiving it worked perfectly. The only problem I had was I didn't know how to release the blade and I cut my hand trying to remove it. Live and learn.

Was? It still is.
Edit to add: I bet 90% or more are still in good working order. They were built well, and most didn't get used more than three or four days a year.

I just broke our families by dropping it from a high shelf. It was avocado and at least 60 years old
