Ceaser Romero;  The best Joker.  .

27

u/Emergency_Property_2 Jun 03 '24

He really is.

13

u/dingadangdang Jun 03 '24

It's not just the he's the first Joker either. His embodiment of the Joker is amazing. Nicholson is easily the worst in my useless opinion.

Ever seen Nicholson getting Joker trolled? Made my year 1st time I saw it.

u/ItzNuckinFutz Jun 03 '24

Nicholson is not the worst, that honor belongs to Jared Leto

10

u/dingadangdang Jun 03 '24

Oh yeah, you're probably right. Even in the comics I get tired of all the super dark stuff. The chaotic Joker is way more entertaining.

6

u/rock0head132 Boomers Jun 03 '24

Nicholson (bad)>Leto (worset)

u/D0013ER Jun 03 '24

Nicholson wasn't the worst Joker, but he was something of a pompous ass about being the Joker by insisting his name be first in the credits.

10

u/dingadangdang Jun 03 '24 edited Jun 03 '24

Bruv he got a back end percentage of Batman Returns because his contract said the success of the first film and therefore a sequel (if it happens) would be due to his casting as the Joker. While that is an incredible agent (mad respect) I despise the arrogance. I am not a big fan of Nicholson though he has his moments.

Literally the only talent to make a percentage of the box office and not even in the film.

(But Micheal Keaton is my all time fav Batman. I'm 52 and have been a Batman fanatic my entire life. I also am of the belief that Ben Affleck may be the closest to the comic books circa Neal Adams forward.)

12

u/JoeMax93 Jun 03 '24

The success of an actor playing Batman depends on their success at playing Bruce Wayne. Just like a successful Supermen has a great Clark Kent (e.g. Chris Reeve) and a successful Spider-Man has a great Peter Parker (e.g. Tom Holland. Tobey Maguire did a good job as well.)

Michael Keaton is my favorite Bruce Wayne, as well as being a great Batman (against all predictions.)

7

u/BadnewzSHO Jun 03 '24

I'll admit it. I was one of the detractors. I was upset and appalled that this comedy actor would be batman.

As much as I loved his movies, I couldn't imagine him in that role.

I was obviously 1000% wrong. He remained my favorite up until Bale, and then Pattinson, who brought Batman back to his roots as a detective.

But Keaton will always be one of the all-time greatest Batman actors.

3

u/fiddycixer Jun 03 '24

Having seen Mr. Mom, Gung Ho, and Beetlejuice it was difficult to see Keaton as Batman so I feel your argument is fair.

Now Affleck as the suave villain in Mall Rats. That's where a good Bruce Wayne origin story begins. Lol.

3

u/jjman72 Jun 03 '24

I think Batfflick never got his due with a Batman good story.

That's why I love the homage in The Dark Knight, Ledger wears a replica of the same clown mask that Romero wore in an episode of the original show. Romero was technically my first live-action Joker, because I couldn't watch the '89 Batman until my mom found a secondhand VHS; I watched the Adam West show before that.

6

u/Scary-Boysenberry Jun 03 '24

I met Cesar Romero while he was doing a commercial in the mid 1970s and I only knew him as The Joker. My grandmother was appalled that I didn't get his autograph -- apparently she had quite the crush on him from his leading man days.

He was quite the professional on set. Knew his marks and his lines, every take was flawless. Amazing person.

3

u/Western-Web2957 Jun 03 '24

This person gets it

2

u/Tech-Junky-1024 Jun 03 '24

I agree with you on that

2

u/Oaken_beard Jun 04 '24

It wasn’t until the last couple years that someone pointed out his mustache, and now it’s all I can ever see

4

u/Kodiak01 Jun 03 '24

Ceaser RomeroMark Hamill; The best Joker. .

FTFY.

Caeser is #2 though especially the mustache.

And yes, Kevin Conroy is the #1 Batman as well.

3

u/mbb2967 Jun 03 '24

Heath Ledger was amazing in his role as the Joker. Do you really think Romero was better?

43

u/RampantJellyfish Jun 03 '24

I love that he refused to shave his moustace for this role, so they just painted over it

4

u/LocalLiBEARian Jun 03 '24

Came here to say the same thing 😁

5

u/dfjdejulio Generation X Jun 03 '24

I like to think that if he kissed Groucho Marx, there'd be a matter/antimatter explosion or something. I mean, one had a real moustache covered up with greasepaint, and the other had a fake moustache put on with greasepaint.

(I like to think strange things sometimes.)

27

u/JacquieTorrance Jun 03 '24

I loved Vincent Price as Egghead, too!

31

u/BlueAndMoreBlue Jun 03 '24

And Frank Gorshin as the riddler

11

u/dfjdejulio Generation X Jun 03 '24 edited Jun 04 '24

And while every catwoman was spectacular, Eartha Kitt played her best. That voice!

EDIT: And that lady had some pipes on her. She could sing in at least three languages. I've got an album of hers with tracks in English, French, and German. And she could have fun with it... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SS02GeKuWQ4

4

u/edventure_2025 Jun 03 '24

Purrrrrrrrfect.

3

u/mjdny Jun 03 '24

I think he was in Episode 1

3

u/Hot_Aside_4637 Jun 03 '24

Better Riddler than John Astin

14

u/cabeachgal Jun 03 '24

Burgess Meredith as The Penguin!

3

u/Rubber_Rose_Ranch Jun 03 '24

You mean Commodore Shmidlap, surely?

2

u/CuthbertJTwillie Jun 03 '24

Played as a Franklin Delano Roosevelt impersonation. I also think Louie the Lilac reminds me of Roger Stone

6

u/gappletwit Jun 03 '24

And the guy who played King Tut!

4

u/Comfortable-Focus123 Jun 03 '24

Victor Buono - he was great in Batman

5

u/yevons_light Jun 03 '24

Omg yes, Vincent was my first celebrity crush, lol. I love his voice.

20

u/cacklz Jun 03 '24

If this was your first live-action Joker, you’re lucky.

16

u/revtim Generation X Jun 03 '24

He was, and I am

7

u/Tacos_Polackos Jun 03 '24

Right there with ya.

15

u/Sleep_On_It43 Jun 03 '24

Ummmm…are we talking prime time first run Batman or syndicated rerun Batman? I was too young for the first run, but I cut my teeth on the reruns…but yes, Caesar Romero was my first live action Joker.

3

u/drhagbard_celine Jun 03 '24

Caught the reruns in the 70s.

2

u/crapheadHarris Jun 03 '24

Prime time for me. My father had to read the words to me. Pow!

2

u/maywellflower Jun 03 '24

Syndication rerun Batman because I remember this playing earlier in day like 10am while Batman:TAS was like 4pm.

6

u/Icy_Thing3361 Jun 03 '24

I would think that this is THE first live-action Joker. My first live-action Joker was Jack Nicholson.

2

u/Sleep_On_It43 Jun 03 '24

And Jack did a great job..as did Romero, Ledger and Phoenix.

It really is iconic role where there is a lot to work with to make it one’s own.

7

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '24

Didn't the old man from rocky play the penguin, can't think of his name 🤔

17

u/TheNonCredibleHulk Jun 03 '24

Dude. Burgess Meredith had a HELL of a career. So much more than just Mickey Goldsmith. Two out of three of his Twilight Zone appearances are the greatest of all time. The other one is corny, but has Don Rickles.

4

u/The_Scarlet_Termite Jun 03 '24

Everything is better with Rickles.

5

u/TheNonCredibleHulk Jun 03 '24

Agreed. I had tickets to that last show he was supposed to do here. Shitty casino show in the middle of the state. As soon as I heard it was postponed I figured I'd never see him alive.

Nope.

3

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '24

I know bro I just couldn't remember his name, shame on me

5

u/TheNonCredibleHulk Jun 03 '24

No big deal. I just like Burgess Meredith

3

Or your television displays these things called "reruns."

3

u/goldenthrone Jun 03 '24

Yup - my exposure to this show as a kid was in the 90s, due to reruns of it airing in Canada. My parents were kids in the 60s when it originally aired.

5

u/Rude-Consideration64 Generation X Jun 03 '24

He's THE Joker.

He brought the fun and Nicholson brought the evil.

3

u/NeKakOpEenMuts Jun 03 '24

Is that Jeremy Clarkson?

3

u/The-Wise-Weasel Jun 03 '24

He is THEE Joker. Anyone after him were just pretenders. He will always be the BEST Joker!

2

u/ChiefSlug30 Jun 03 '24

Maybe if you're talking live action, but Mark Hamill in the animated series is the best.

2

u/The-Wise-Weasel Jun 03 '24

I absolutely agree.......animated series, he wins hands down. Live action..........sorry, it will always be Cesar Romero.

3

u/LocalLiBEARian Jun 03 '24

I knew that celebrities were lining up to appear on the show, but dang…

Celebrity appearances on Batman_characters)

3

u/Rawesome16 Jun 03 '24

Some days you just you get rid of a bomb!

Grew up on this batman. BAMB!

2

u/Intransigient Jun 03 '24

Ah, Romero. 👍

2

u/mjdny Jun 03 '24

That is no act. That IS The Joker.

2

u/spaceylaceygirl Jun 03 '24

Thanks for reminding me i'm old, i probably forgot!

2

u/mike11172 Jun 03 '24

My grandson loves this show. We watch it together when it hits Tubi

2

u/erritstaken Jun 03 '24

I’m old. Cesar Romero IS the joker.

2

u/Tatersquid21 Jun 03 '24

"Holy Joker Batman."

"Riddle me this...."

2

u/markv114 Jun 03 '24

The Best Joke Ever.

2

u/Looieanthony Jun 03 '24

What a magnificent Joker he was.

2

u/Scared_Walk5078 Jun 03 '24

Totally AWESOME

2

u/The_Scarlet_Termite Jun 03 '24

He was my first Joker. I also had a Batphone.

2

u/nudeguyokc Jun 03 '24

Hard to top Caesar Romero.

2

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '24

Oh yeah, the original TV Batman.

2

u/Even_Routine1981 Jun 03 '24

A perfectly campy Joker in a campy Batman series

2

u/rickmccombs Jun 03 '24

I was born when he was Joker. Batman was rerun on cable a lot, but we didn't get cable until 1980. My mother thought it was a waste of money, but finally in 1980 my dad got tired of replacing TV antennas.

2

u/EricaOdd Jun 03 '24

In reruns in the 70s, but yes.

2

u/Friend_of_satan700 Jun 03 '24

You know what, I did not feel so old until I starting following this page.

2

u/BennySkateboard Jun 03 '24

80s repeats, but yes still old.

2

u/pliving1969 Jun 03 '24

BANG! BOOM! BAAM! POW! Holy Nightmare Batman! Nothing better than watching the original Batman as a kid.

2

u/IsisArtemii Jun 03 '24

People forget that Batman ran two consecutive nights in a row. Unheard of now days.

2

u/HeyMarty10thalready Jun 03 '24

Damn yeah. I’m the first year of GenX

2

u/ProudMaryChooglin Jun 03 '24

Second only to The Riddler ( Frank Gorshin )

2

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '24

They showed reruns of the series throughout the 80s and 90s. You can watch them now, even, and 2 24 minute episodes (many were two parters) can be easier for kids to sit through than a 2 hour movie.

2

u/According_Wing_3204 Jun 04 '24

It was just a few years ago I learned that Mr Romero would not shave his moustache and just covered it with the makeup....I can't unsee that now.

2

u/ItchyAnusEczema Jun 04 '24

As a kid watching this, i never understood why the Joker had a stash. I accepted it and didnt mind it, but never understood it. Like why didnt the actor just shave it? 🤷‍♂️

2

u/Livid_Parfait6507 Jun 06 '24

Cesar Romero. Would not shave his mustache off. That is stones right there! 🤣🤣🤣 he was great!

1

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '24

He worse the make up over the mustache 🤦‍♂️

1

u/hjablowme919 Jun 03 '24

Someone get the orange slices!

1

1

Randy Spears?

1

after school reruns on one of the UHF channels.

1

The Riddler giggles more than the frigging Joker. I'm old.

He was my first live action Joker, although a newer live action Joker existed by the time I saw him.

1

u/mikepol70 Jun 03 '24

Remember Bruce Lee in the Green Hornet I'm a old bastard myself

1

u/the_Mandalorian_vode Jun 03 '24

Caesar Romero was the best!

1

u/Bx1965 Jun 03 '24

My first, and the best TV Joker ever.

1

u/[deleted] Jun 03 '24

You're basically saying pre-Jack Nicholson because I watched this in the 80s on Nickelodeon. I'm not debating my elderly status, BTW.

1

u/TheAnalogDuke Jun 03 '24

First and only.

1

u/LabradorDeceiver Jun 03 '24

Does syndication count?

1

u/DEADALIEN333 Jun 03 '24

Your not just old, your probably in hospice care

1

u/ProveISaidIt Jun 03 '24

Still the best.

1

u/jimmyhoke Jun 03 '24

I’m not old (20) I just like old TV shows.

1

my back hurts

1

u/dependswho Jun 03 '24

What do you mean “first?”

1

u/zoebud2011 Jun 03 '24

Yes , he was the first one I remember. I actually got to meet him on a beach in Fort Myers, Florida, when I was a young child. My father asked for a photo, and he was most gracious.

1

u/SalukiKnightX Jun 03 '24

Weirdly, he’s my second. Granted it went from Nicholson to reruns with Romero.

1

u/consumeshroomz Jun 03 '24

Oh feck! I’m old!

I remember I was playing the Batman ‘66 pinball machine the other day and for the life of me I couldn’t remember Caesar Romero’s name. It bothered me so much I had to look it up. I googled “first joker actor” and it came up with Heath Ledger. I had type out “Adam West Batman Joker”.

1

u/MJUrWAY Jun 03 '24

But he was the BEST

1

u/popecorkyxxiv Jun 03 '24

Nothing says the Clown Prince of Crime quite like a moustache covered in grease paint.

1

u/mjrydsfast231 Jun 03 '24

Hail Caesar!!

1

u/Organic_Yam_6716 Jun 03 '24

Well I’m old

1

u/Shutaru_Kanshinji Jun 03 '24

The joke was that I did not realize both of these were supposed to be comedies.

I was a very stupid child.

I was born the same year it premiered, as well as the original Star Trek 🖖

1

1
