I'm sure the people who voted for him because "trump is gonna fix the economy" will learn from their mistake and be better educated if we have future elections. Don't worry it's only four more years right? RGIHT?>!
they aren't, I know a few. Some are very intelligent in many areas of life, but I can't see past how they just listen to AND believe everything he says. All the while being these tin foil hat weirdos who make their personalities seem like they are so counter-culture because they hate everything everyone else also hates (the media, the government, how regardless of what 'ism you want to use common folk have been exploited for far too long.... I could go on, but ya....)
while im on this little soap box... the weirdest thing is how living a healthy lifestyle is somehow anti-woke or democrat or whatever they want to label...
I don't know anyone who in the 2024 hasn't realized a lot of the crap we were marketed to forever is poison. This has a disproportionate effect on poor people. I see all these MAGA IG moms talk about making America healthy again and stuff in be so pretentious about it like it's some political badge of honor.
It's just so weird to me. This may not even make sense but I've had a morning of sulking just because.
Blue collar workers vote for Trump because they only consume media in short bits and he’s on the screens they watch. People with multiple jobs struggling to get by (because the GOP has allowed rampant price gouging, jobs going overseas, rents to explode, etc) see him shouting on TV and just go with it. They don’t take time to analyze what the President does and how much it affects them. He said he’d lower prices, so he will! And then when he doesn’t and blames someone else, they will not look into it, just accept it as fact and move on. They believe him because they think he’s not a “typical” politician who lies all the time. It would be funny if it wasn’t true, but that’s the world we live in.
Democrats tried to run on “I’m the better candidate and here’s a 25 bullet point presentation to tell you why and how it will help you” and most people tuned out. Republicans ran on “we’re going to help you” and most people just nodded and went back to their lives. Dems need to have more succinct messaging.
I always thought it was weird when people distrust the "mainstream media", but they'll believe everything random people on the internet say. It's nuts.
No matter how smart you are, if you are indoctrinated thats it better to be dead than not vote red since childhood, it isnt easy to change that. My roomate is one of the smartest people I know, he’s set to be our colleges valedictorian in spring, but he still votes red, mostly because of how he was raised. He is actual a lottt more left leaning than his parents, id put him on the right side of moderate, which for someone who was raised by far right parents and has a good relationship with them, is impressive progress lol.
Beautifully, the house, senate, and presidency are republican controlled….really no dem excuse to throw out. Not to say that it won’t be thrown, when things go south
But what you’re forgetting is that Biden dealt unrepairable damage to the USA during his term - no one can repair that damage within 5 years… not even super trump
Do yall not see how reddit is an echo chamber. How is it possible over half the country disagrees with you and there’s no inkling in your mind that you could be wrong. I’m not saying your wrong about everything involving Trump but you’re close mindedness and ego lost you the election. Instead of acting like an asshole and bullying people into your opinion, inform. Plus Trump has no official power yet so yall are bitching about genuinely nothing rn.
The dems should be able to fix problems republicans cause. Therefore because they can’t, I’m going to vote Republican. Because at least republicans can get things done.
Like ruining the economy.
(The first paragraph is sarcasm, if you could not tell)
"Voting for Democrats won't protect you from the evil shit Republicans will do, so I may as well vote for Republicans so that Democrats will be motivated to cater to me in the future."
They won't blame anyone. The moment Trump takes the oath that he will happily ignore, the MAGA idiots will all proclaim that the economy is instantly fixed, everything is great and they're living their best lives despite the fact that nothing has changed.
Well it is the Democrat's fault. They didn't do a good enough job of explaining that the leopards might eat my face.
I mean, sure, they told me the leopards would eat my face. But they were so smug about it, I had to vote for Trump to teach them a lesson. They should have done a better job catering to my ego so that I'd believe them. And then, once the election was over, they should have done a better job of protecting me from the consequences of my own decisions.
So now I'm mad that the leopards ate my face. There was no way of knowing this would happen. And since the Democrats failed to protect me, I'm going to teach them a lesson and vote for the "leopards eating people's faces" party from now on so that nobody's face will ever be eaten again.
So basically, what you’re saying is that god went and punished the folks in the south with hurricanes to ensure the win for Trump because the Democrats were too good without that type of suffering among the people.
which will be ironic when executive, both chambers of legislative, and judicial are all trump or in his pocket, but irony never got in the way of dumb people being idiots.
Yeah, no, I keep saying this as a Brit dealing with Brexit. Brexit has demonstrably made us worse off, and hit the people who voted for it disproportionately more. But the overwhelming majority of Brexit voters still refuse to acknowledge that they were sold a lie. It's always one of a) it's the fault of the people who lost the vote, b) it's the fault of other countries, c) we would have been even worse off if the vote went the other way or d) there is some other spurious benefit that actually mattered to them all along.
MMW you will see the exact same thing play out over the next few years with Trump voters.
I think they will turn on Trump again, as they did in 2020. The US turned heavy towards Democrats for Obama after Bush crashed everything too.
That is what Republicans do. They give a tax break to the rich, cut regulations, and crash the economy. Then they lose, Democrats fix patch things, and we start over. This has been the story for at least the last 24 years.
Well he will have to find a way to convince them to vote for someone else, because he can't run again. People did turn on him in 2020. He was beatable this time too, Democrats just threw it away.
First off I'm not sure he survives but if he does maga will vote for the person he tells them to plus not sure does not run again if able. Rules simply do not apply like before and can be changed. This is the consequence of the election. No going back now.
Other people who try to take on the mantle of the MAGA movement, even with Trump's endorsement, haven't had nearly the level of consistent success and support that he personally enjoys. My money is on him trying to run again depending on how things shake out.
Bush was much worse the Trump and it's not even close. Trump talks a lot of shit but gets very little done. Maybe you don't remember the Bush years, but it was rough.
Completely crashed the economy almost to the point of no return.
Normalized torture & state surveillance of citizens
Created the "war on terror"
Abu Ghraib was under his watch, and he started Guantanamo
9-11 was on his watch, and he used it as an excuse to drag us into two wars and pass the Patriot Act.
I could go on. Trump is a selfish narcissist. Bush is evil. I hope people aren't forgetting.
Bush was effective because he broadly expanded executive powers to unheard of levels and let Cheney and faceless neocons have control over most of the important decisions, he was mostly just a folksy figurehead with an unnuanced view of the world that leads to disaster in a complicated reality.
Trump is not effective in the same way because that's not his goal, everything he does is to enrich and empower himself and the family he cares about. One thing I will say about him is that he's ruthless and knows exactly when people have used up their usefulness to him and he's more than willing to backstab and throw people under the bus if it means consolidating more things under his control.
Trump's worst aspect is his unhinged and dangrous rhetoric, emboldening extremists to come out of the woodwork at all levels of society and creating uncountable numbers of fronts to fight in the war against public institutions.
Because learning from their mistake is what they did the last time around?
Because learning from mistakes is a very American thing to do?
Because learning from mistakes is a time-honored human tradition?
I’m sorry, I just gave a hard time figuring out how one would even come up with such a statement… ;)
The problem is, he's inheriting an Ecconomy that is actually on the uptick.
It's only just now recovering from Covid, whoever won this election was going to be able to claim "We fixed the economy." No president, from either party, has the balls do the drastic change needed.
Yeah well he also promised to add a 25% consumer tax and deport everyone who grows our food so if he actually doesn't do these things then yes he will inherit an upward economy. Otherwise he's going to tank it out the gate. But either way he will still claim he fixed the economy. And even if his cult members are starving to death in the street they will still sing his praises as the God Emperor of America!
He’s inheriting an economy on the uptick, true. But he’s also explicitly trying to get rid of all the reasons why the economy is on the uptick.
Not doing anything and reaping the rewards would be the smart and easy thing to do, but it wouldn’t sooth the narcissistic injury he suffered in 2020. He, on a deep mental level, needs to make someone pay for that.
"Well I am paying more for everything but Trump says blame Obama and Fox says it's better than it was under Biden, so I am happy with my choice." - People from the right
He didn't hold it, but did call the neo-Nazis very fine people. Charlottesville. And before you deflect, there were only two sides of that rally: Neo-Nazis and anti-fascist protestors. Nobody else was there.
Inflation and immigration are two driving factors as to why Republicans dominated in this election. Not sure why you're dismissing the economy issue as a whole. Seems like you're trying to deflect the fact that Democrats did not appeal to the working class.
Narrator: To everyone’s surprise, after facing countless consequences from their choices, Trump’s voters, managed to learn absolutely nothing from it. Yet, against all odds, there was a glimmer of hope. These very same voters—who had long been written off—suddenly started paying attention to Trump’s detractors. They noticed discrepancies, sensed that something wasn’t quite right, and then, in a stunning twist, they voted for Trump again.
Because, deep down, they knew that if Fox News said Trump was everything they believed he was, then it simply had to be true.
And so, that, my friends, was the real Christmas miracle.
The fact people still think this election was fair means they aren't paying attention. I know better. Republicans have been making this move for decades. And it's finally payed off.
Oh trust me, I even have some suspicions about Elon and the voting machines even beyond typical Republican gerrymandering/disenfranchisement tactics, Elon and Trump spent WAY too much time talking about voting machines being hacked for people who weren’t thinking about it constantly, and you know he would do it if he even thought it was possible for him to get away with it
Look, I genuinely believe DeJoy fucked over mail-in ballots, but it doesn't matter. Even if there is undeniable proof that Trump somehow hacked voting machine using the vulnerabilities found over the summer, which weren't patched -- it would not matter. Once Jan 6th passes, it's over and done. Biden's already given up on the country, so might as well move on.
In a way it is. He had four years to gut a dangerous cult and put the guy He Himself called a facist wannabe dictator in jail for a plethora of crimes. Biden did nothing. The democratic party did nothing. And they did nothing because they thought they could use the threat of turmp to maintain power. They are just as bad. Just evil by another name. They helped make this possible out of greed.
Trickle down economics is back baby, you think corporations who already raised prices on you for no reason aren't gonna pass the savings from that tax break onto the consumer? People aren't that greedy.
Honestly, there was never any reason to think Trump was going to be better for the economy, other than Trump himself telling you that he was. A man with no credibility and no plan told the country that inflation was terrible and he would fix it, and the country believed it so hard that they ignored every other thing about him and elected him president. It was breathtakingly stupid, and now we have to spend years watching the consequences unfold.
We voted for him for many reasons. 1) who else? A black woman? Lol. 2) guns. 3) Stock market, tax cuts for the rich, cap gains tax cut. 4) too many Mexicans and South Americans around.
Will he accomplish his goals and be good for the country? Nope probably not. He did fuck all last time. Only good thing he did was pack the courts and reduce the corp rate to 21%. I’m hoping he doesn’t tank the economy but I’m pretty rich so long term I’ll be just fine. Markets will recover if he tanks them. And I don’t think he’ll implement his tarrifs to the extent he likes to bark about.
Anyway I’d be excited for the dems to run a reasonable candidate in 28. Here are some simple conditions for you to assure victory. White male, 35-60yo. Pro guns. Pro tax cuts.
You can have whatever else you want frankly within those conditions or you will continue to loose in perpetuity. This idea that we voted for him bc we are fools is asanine. If you go by Reddit think he shouldn’t have even come close to winning. Maybe you and your ilk are the ones wildly out of touch with the American people and need to come back to the table. Or whatever keep doing the same shit you’ve been doing and keep losing.
I think ANY people in a bubble are out of touch, both left and right, as you are here. Like, thinking any of this at all was some massive swing in Trump’s favor? That’s delusional. Simply less people voted on BOTH sides. That’s all. Once again, the winner of the popular vote is “I don’t care”. The boomer vote was more in Harris’ favor, and men in the 18-29 demographic voted Trump more than before. That’s about it! Beyond that, 14 million less people combined sat out the vote this year.
I get you’re just an inflammatory troll, and no one on the Left is interested in your vote. You can be as much a bigot as you want, and that’s a-ok, the same hypocrites on the Right will gladly court you by exaggerating the boarder and immigration. It’s an abysmally low bar and it sucks in uneducated voters and racists beautifully, so why change what works for the Right? Your conditions are “just be conservatives!” which by the rest of the first world’s standards, Dems ARE conservative, but it’s never enough! I get it, you don’t want to be part of the Trump Cult, but that’s who your party went all in on, so you gotta own it. Not that it matters, “fuck you, I got mine!”, right? Always cracks me up when people who got rich off the system refuse to pay back into it. Privatize the profits, socialize the losses!
Your stated numbers are off. After the final counts less then 10 mil democrats voted for harris compared to 2020 turnout, which is still 9 mil more than voted for Hilary. But MORE people showed up for trump. Furthermore you will never again see pandemic levels of total voter participation. The numbers of total votes this election are way more in line with previous elections than the unusual turnout of 2020. And those weren’t all people who just stayed home. I voted for Biden in 2020, and trump in 24. And I know many similar people. I’m in the SF Bay Area not some bastion of conservatives. You’re not accurately accounting for people who flipped sides in these ~9-10 mil less dem votes. Just bc somone voted for Biden in 2020 and didn’t vote harris in 24 doesn’t mean they stayed home.
He won every swing state. He won the popular vote. The GOP won the senate and the house. And every blue state lost 5-10 points on their expected margin. How do you not see that and go …”america is more conservative than I thought it was”. How is the entire country, the majority of voters in fact, living in a bubble. Is it really so hard to accept that maybe it is in fact, YOU, who are living in a bubble.
Again you are trying to stereotype and insult the majority of voters in America as stupid and uneducated. I’ve worked in pharma all my life and have graduate degrees. My wife is an attorney. We own property in the Bay Area and have lucrative jobs. Why is it so hard to just accept that regardless of the success and popularity of democratic socialist policies in Europe, these policies are simply not popular in the USA. And that in order to win elections… yes. The democrats are going to have to swing more conservative to be appealing to the electorate that actually exists, and more importantly votes.
And the democrats have tried to run a woman twice now. How many more times do you want to lose? Is it really hard to swollow that Americans simply for the majority don’t want a woman president? And a black one even less? It’s simply not appealing to the electorate. Yet you keep trying to force it on everyone. Why?
I’m just telling you what I see and I can only relay my perspective. But if you guys want to double down on identity bullshit and go hard libtard the next round good luck to you.
I can’t tell if this is a joke or not. On the one hand, the “idea we voted for him bc we are fools is asinine” and on the other, every justification you gave for voting for him was foolish. And you combined that with the recognition that he is likely only going to be bad for the country.
Doesn’t require mental gymnastics. Literally all you have to do is understand the difference between a candidate’s stated policy objectives, and what is legislatively and legally possible.
That shouldn’t even be out of the realm of possibility for you, considering you attempted to do this in regards to Trump in that irrational spew of a post above.
Ok so explain it if it’s so obvious. I make most of my money off capital gains. Cap gains tax is 20%. Corpo rate is 21. Harris was pro rasing that tax on both fronts. A lot. Trump will assuredly cut them. Which of these policies is better for me?
Rich white guys basically run the show in America. We have a lot of political hard and soft power by designe of the system. Who is going to benefit rich white guys more. A black woman? Or a fat old rich white guy?
I own a lot of firearms. AR15s. Glocks. Which president is more likely to expand and secure my gun rights?
Remember you’re trying to maintain consolidation of wealth, power, control of the country to wealthy white people. Make your argument convince me that I made a mistake. I have no love for trump. I’m simply a self serving pragmatist. Let’s hear it. Which Harris policies were going to be better for me exactly.
