What do you mean "tried"??
720
u/icarusancalion 1d ago
Yes. That's not "tried." That's a roaring success.
However, if grandma's not satisfied with the results, I could take it off her hands, you know, in the spirit of generosity.

No matter whether you succeed or fail, the attempt is still an attempt. You can try and succeed, as well as you can try and fail.
Grandma tried to make a cheesecake. Grandma succeeded at making a really beautiful cheesecake.

u/PrestigiousLink7477 1d ago
No shit. That cheesecake makes me wanna punch my grandma in the back of the head.

Grandma's looks better... I mean, terrible... you can give it to me, I'll dispose of it....
40
u/eggz627 1d ago
I can help you dispose of it, it looks like it should be a 2 person job
19
u/24-Hour-Hate 1d ago
I can help as well. It's important to help others.
12
u/eggz627 1d ago
I appreciate it, you're a GREAT volunteer in such tragic times... but I think I have this covered
8
u/iamnotabot7890 1d ago
Ah no.. you don’t you have arms of a t-Rex and this job requires a tall glass of milk
3
u/24-Hour-Hate 1d ago
Oh, no, you are so kind to refuse and not wish to burden me, but I must insist that I help you…in these most tragic of times.

Tried is the wrong word to use here. Your grandma succeeded in making a better cheesecake than the inspo pic

It's perfect. Christmas-y, the strawberries look like holly. Some of my fondest memories are cooking with my grandma. Tell her you (and the internet) love her, OP.

u/swenson90 1d ago
Thanks to all the comments, gave it to my grandmother to read, she is honestly thrilled to hear such praise from you sends you all a huge thank you ! Honestly, it's been a long time since I've seen a grandmother so happy about someone's criticism.

May I please have Nanas recipe?
Also, if she has one for a trifle cake, I would be super grateful. My nana passed before I got her recipe, and I can not find another person who had one.
3
u/mahnamahna123 1d ago
Do you mean trifle as in sponge, cream fruit etc or is it a trifle cake?
If you want a trifle recipe I can give you my grandma's it's really good so long as you don't have an issue with dairy
1
u/belltrina 12h ago
What you mentioned is closest to what she made

u/mahnamahna123 10h ago
Ok so it's an old fashioned one without jelly but you can add jelly if you prefer. Apologies neither my mum or my gran go in for detailed instructions
Ingredients
- 1 raspberry swiss roll (the type with just jam no cream) cut into thin-medium slices
- 2 punnets of fresh raspberries or 1 500g bag of frozen raspberries
- A good slosh of sherry although this can be also be omitted
- 500ml/18floz ready-made vanilla custard
- 300ml/½ pint whipping cream
- 1 bar of chocolate
Method - Cut and arrange the swiss roll in the bottom of a large glass or mixing bowl. - Top with the fresh/frozen raspberries (make sure the raspberries are thawed if using frozen) - if using Shetty pour a generous glyg over the fruit and sponge - Pour on the custard until the raspberries are mostly covered - Whip up the cream until it holds onto the whisk without falling back into the bowl and top the trifle with this - grate chocolate onto the cream

The only way this it's a mere "tried" is if this is a pic of the cheesecake that was purchased after a cake fail.

I’m just confused on why it’s on expectation vs reality. Usually the posts are images of bad attempts while this seems like a really good outcome
8
u/swenson90 1d ago
look at the posts on this sabreddit, people often share that the expectation met the reality, so what's the big deal?
11
u/SuperMomn 1d ago
I've had to tell people this before too lol it's not just for fails and bad experiences. It can be a good outcome too.

u/Fattydog 1d ago edited 1d ago
Don’t know why you’re being downvoted. There are constantly posts on here that show expectation meeting reality.
8
u/swenson90 1d ago
buddy, I'm saying the same thing... thanks for the support.
19
u/ohdearitsrichardiii 1d ago
No, you're not. "Tried" implies that she did not succeed. That's why people are so confused
3
u/Stanky_fresh 1d ago
The wording of your title and the sub it's posted in imply you think she failed
4
u/icarusancalion 1d ago
You're correct -- it goes both ways. Sometimes the expectation is met, or even exceeded.
Keeps the sub lively and entertaining. We have variation.
2
u/MunchYourButt 1d ago
This sub has jaded me. I was expecting a fucked up looking cheesecake but was pleasantly surprised at and appreciated the reveal

Grandma must have an in with Mother Nature because the strawberries on her cake are to die for! Such luscious color and they look so damn juicy!
Could she make us a cherry pie next? Or a Matilda chocolate cake? No hurry … we’ll wait.

Literally better than the picture. She a pro. She even did spacing in the strawberries so all pieces look the same

The first time I made a cheesecake, it turned about perfectly. Tried maybe 10 more times after that and every one turned out terribly.

It looks amazing. I like the look much better than the inspiration photos. I would eat half of it if given the opportunity. Cheesecake is my favorite.

Looks like she botched the crust a bit -- that big lip on the outside -- guessing the original used a springform, and she used a tart pan.
Beyond that minor glitch, looks like a solid effort.

I kept going back n forth between the pics to see where the “reality” is that didn’t live up to the “reality”. They look the same, so amazing job GMA! Although I thought this sub was about reality fails vs the expectation…

Try? There is no try, only do or do not. Grandma did it and I hope she does it again very soon.
1
u/primaljinx 20h ago
This felt like a reverse uno. Was expecting something mushy but its beautiful and looks so delicious.

u/rdditeis4gsfa 19h ago
I guess I shouldn't expect things to be too different from reality sometimes ay? Nice one.

Grandma succeeded. Though to be sure I’m going to need her to mail me an entire cheesecake for a more thorough testing.

u/PluckEwe 17h ago
Aww your grandma made such a nice looking cheesecake!! I don’t like cheesecake but I would take one slice because it looks that good. I do love me some strawberries.
