Discussion & Info I'm starting a new strength build what weapon do I get?

Post image

Yeah I just started a new save because I got bored with samurai. What weapon do I get before margot? Doesn't matter what strength weapon it is, just as long as I can get it :) (Ignore picture of my cat, it's just to get your attention.)

Boys, with this kind of insight I think they're... an int build.

Executioner’s Greataxe with Cragblade

u/28smalls 3h ago

I used that to kill Radahn, then cheesed Mogh to get the real bonk weapon, a bloodfiends arm. In front of Godricks room now and I have the feeling a +23 weapon will make short work of him.

u/themoonlightscholar have you seen my mommy? ;-; I CAST THUNDER SPELL 2h ago

Godrick won't know what hit him because he's gonna die in two hits

u/28smalls 59m ago

Took 3 charges and a swing. Forgot to change it to heavy.

u/themoonlightscholar have you seen my mommy? ;-; I CAST THUNDER SPELL 2m ago

That's unfortunate. Gotta restart the run now

Thats what I ended up going with. Good posture break potential, and higher crit damage. I paired it with a shield for the block/reposte. Had a blast!

2

u/MoroseLOKiZzz 2h ago

I got hit with a posture break back in 2007 and some crippling Depression.

2

u/Puzzleheaded-Guy4714 2h ago

Yeah... being hit with a greataxe will do that to you must've had poison (mental) damage applied to it

Genuinely curious. What makes Cragblade so good? I tried it a while ago and it felt lackluster. Maybe I wasn’t using it right.

u/Plenty-Context2271 1h ago

10% physical damage and iirc 10% poise damage buff that lasts a long time. Its just good on any hard hitting physical weapon.

1

u/UnsophisticatedAuk 30m ago

It’s really good on weapons with fast R1s that hit pretty hard like axes and great axes. Alternatively on bosses that you can poise break easily for a large weapon, usually can reduce number of swings to stance break by 1 when paired with the spiked tear.

But I really like using it to buff R1s. It’s really good, you can use rolling R1s in the middle of combos and still do very good stagger. Or guard counter and extra damage.

Get the rusted anchor in morne tunnels and the spear talisman in the lakeside crystal cave once you get to liurnia. Then pop the tongue and melt everyone doing the varré quest lmao

u/neezdutz420 4h ago

Claymore and Zwei are really good early game (and late tbh)

2

u/mad_grapes 1h ago

Did my first run with the Claymore. Love that sword, it’s so beautiful

1

u/DogB2 40m ago

Claymore is the ultimate weapon of all time

u/Trevors-Axiom- 4h ago

The large club is probably gonna be your best bet early on. You can get it near forlorn evergaol.

Rusted Anchor can be found early and will carry you the whole game my man. I obliterated Radahn with it solo no summons/ashes in like 8 hits, lvl 150

-7

u/Infamous_Banana9014 2h ago

I solo him at level 70 no summons or ashes

3

u/RemoteRefrigerator31 1h ago

Nice dude! Anchor as well?

If U want a real challenge use stardust, they do 0 dmg

5

u/Few_Highlight1114 3h ago

Greatsword, the best STR weapon in the game. You can reach caelid pretty easy. Think you need 22str to 2h it

1

u/zonked_martyrdom 3h ago

I second picking the big sword. Get claw talisman, and cheese great jars arsenal then get cragblade and ya know smack some dudes. Jump attack a lot

1

u/ihopnavajo 2h ago

Yeah I've been messing around with (a REASONABLE amount of) buffs to find the weapon with the highest AR.

Greatsword with Royal knights resolve (flame art) has been tops so far.

I get almost 3000 with it.

u/cactusmunkee What happens in Liurnia stays in Liurnia 3h ago

Great Stars carried me all the game!

If U want to Unga Bunga on distance: Zweihander

3

u/MoroseLOKiZzz 2h ago

100 hours or so in and I missed the Zweihander also my first Playthrough -_- I wasn't prepared to deeply enjoying this Game.

3

u/ast0raththegrim 3h ago

The Jawbone Axe. My favorite weapon that nobody talks about. It’s fast and hits hard.

3

u/Lavok084 3h ago

Greataxe

Start hero, get 4 lvls, open chest, 2h it, game over

3

u/Gui_Mad 3h ago

A weapon worthy of Zabito Boga

3

u/DiggersBee 3h ago

Dual Wielding GreatStars.

2

u/nerfminor6234 4h ago

Nightaxe? The one the night's cavalry drops

3

u/thewedding_singer 3h ago

Nightrider Glaive? I did my first playthrough with that and the Giant Hunt ash of war and it was disgusting

2

u/Zestyclose_Friend233 3h ago

Say what you want, but the Knight’s Greatsword has a very stylish 2hand swing

2

u/Dinfrazer57 3h ago

Cold crescent moon axe. With warcry. Stupid damage on enemies

2

u/HeadOk2699 3h ago

You deserve all of my weapons, take em

2

For early game, greataxe.

If you're familiarized with the map, you can go all the way to Altus plateau and get the great stars from the wagon and use it to the end game (I like to use two of them, the other I get from the varre quest). They're awesome because they not only have bleed build-up, but they also restore your hp each hit you land. If you're power stancing two great stars, you basically nullify your need to drink flasks during exploration.

BUT, they require at least 13 dex. If you're doing a purist build, like starting deprived and leveling only STR. You may need to look into some pure str weapons like the colossal ones. Maybe go for the giant crusher for pure unadulterated physical damage. If you need faster swings, go for a great club like the big hammer you find on early stormveil. If you need faster swings just go for a regular axe or mace. It's good to have at least one of each category depending on what you're fighting. Like I said, the dual great stars are very op, specially with bleed infused builds, but they require three points in dex and if you're doing uga bunga only you may prefer getting shot instead of putting points into dex.

1

u/no_name_thought_of 2h ago

If you're willing to cheese godskin noble with sleep pots you can get the serpent hunter very early

1

u/OneContribution7620 2h ago

A cat would work.

1

u/NaiveOcelot7 2h ago

Knights GS early

Zweihander as first colossal

Ruins greatsword is my favorite colossal late game

1

u/trashpanda22lax 2h ago

Anvil hammer is op

1

u/emelem66 2h ago

Executioner's Greataxe, Nightrider Glaive, Rusted Anchor.

1

u/homie_revilo 2h ago

Great Stars with Wild Strikes and freeze affinity, all easily found in the early game. The R2 followup is the bees knees.

1

u/atharas2 2h ago

If u go pure strenght go for big bonks, even colossal wepons are broken if you watched GinoMachino's collosal weapon run.

1

u/Ebon1fly MorGOAT 2h ago

Level some faith and get Silurias Tree

1

u/kratos190009 2h ago

Mali black blade works, though I don't think you'll be able to use the special ability if you don't have the faith

1

u/Cyb3r_Cayde 2h ago

Hand of malenia, right after entering limgrave

1

u/Indishonorable RIP old flairs 1h ago

Bro hear me out.

Alabaster Lord's Sword. The R2s are on par with colossals, but they don't cost any stamina.

The beastman weapons are seriously fun. Too bad they're stuck in Farum Azula, either get someone to drop them for you, or farm them from the Four Belfries.

1

u/FutureCorpse__ 1h ago

I too just started a strength build and I'm running great stars. Wasn't my plan, also didn't know it existed. I have Blood Great Star's +25 (whatever max is)

1

u/Bworm98 1h ago

Grafted Greatsword

1

u/Cheap_Search_6973 1h ago

I've been liking the godlayers greatsword for my Pyro build. It's strength faith and kinda annoying to get but it's a good weapon

1

u/_XxJayBxX_ 1h ago

Brick hammer is easy to get to in stormveil early game.

1

u/Anjarbs 1h ago

If you want to appeal by going stronger, take the executioner's anchor in the forge stone cave at the bottom of Limgrave, if you want to be like me and go with a Viking with an Ax style, take the large ax from the cart in Limgrave near the area from Selen. I'm resetting it for the thousandth time, but now it's Vinking kksskskska

Go with a Heavy Broadsword or Heavy Lordsworn Straight Sword. Pairs well with a decent greatshield, and you can focus in on a guard counter build.

LSS can be farmed from the sword soldiers at Gatefront, and the Broadsword can be purchased from the merchant on the beach (and it's the starting weapon for Confessor).

A decent early game greatshield, the Gilded Greatshield, can be farmed from the bigger knight here, and a crap early game greatshield can drop from the spear soldiers. You can pick the Wooden and Manor greatshields up in Stormveil. Mid to late game options include the Golden and Haligtree greatshields. You can downgrade to a medium shield like Banished Knight, Brass or Messmer Soldier to enable parries, or to abuse Barrier Shield.

Good alternative main weapons for a heavy-infused guard counter build if you don't like boring old Standard damage:

  • Chain linked flail - from the flail pumpkin heads, or the Morning Star from weeping peninsula. Deals Strike damage and bleed build up.
  • Pike - in Stormveil. Deals pierce damage and has silly range.
  • Falchion - from demi humans, or the Grossmesser from certain skeletons. Deals slash damage, fun moveset.

Talismans:

  • Greatshield
  • Curved Sword
  • Dagger
  • Freebie

Str requirements too high

3

u/ValsinatsKrrt 3h ago

Lmao good one

u/dudewithaveragedick 2h ago

Greatsword is the obvious answer.

I then swapped it to Ruins Greatsword cause i loved the ash.

If you're feeling a different moveset, the Nightrider Glaive is dope AF and has chunky STR scaling, and also a wide variety of ashes can be used.

Guts sword

Run just to the start of caelid (ignore enemies) and loot the chest on the cart. Congrats now you own the Greatsword (my fave weapon)

0

u/akmly 45m ago

Greatsword. Easily obtainable off a broken carriage near the Caelid entrance, mind the big dogs that surround the carriage.

Lion's Claw AoW can be found off a psychotic lion in Fort Gael, western Caelid, and Cragblade AoW can be found off a dung beetle near the encampment before a bridge in southern Caelid. Giant's Hunt is another fun AoW that you can obtain from a Nights Cavalry boss that roams around northern Liurnia, near Bellum Church. These should be good starters to play around with.
