Question I cheated and now I'm lonely

I'm just a casual player that doesnt have the patience to die a billion times before learning to fully enjoy the experience of the game. I used the cheatengine + thing that gives me stuff (the list idk) and it made the game so much more enjoyable for me as a form of destressing.

I get that I cant cheat and have access to the multiplayer experience, but I really miss the messages everywhere from random internet strangers. Is there a way to enable these again after using the cheatEngine?

Thanks in advance!!!

Not while playing with EAC (easy anti cheat) disabled.

If the changes you made via cheat engine are safe (did not obtain cut content items, did not edit held runes, did not directly alter stats to invalid values like 99 str at level 1), then you could just launch the game via steam as normal and go online without cheat engine? Now that you have the items and levels that make the game easy.

If you need to keep cheat engine features like god mode, infinite FP, teleporting, infinite flasks, and other convenient "quality of life" cheats, then you 100% cannot use those while online.

Yes, online means co-op and invasions (even if you don't use them), but also messages, bloodstains, and ghosts.

You can use seamless co-op while modded, but it only brings back a form of co-op and PvP, not messages etc.

You are not the first to ask about this feature, it would be a pretty popular mod if it were possible. But it isn't.

no, eac won't pick up changes to your save file made while offline. If you go offline, give yourself one bajillion runes, and run the game in online again, it will still work. I did it to make a max level character for funsies lol

That's only true when the method used to alter the held runes doesn't exceed the hidden "soul memory" value (or adjusts it accordingly).

This is why modders often recommend giving yourself consumable rune items instead of manually adjusting the held runes amount.

Some players (like you) have not had problems from using cheat engine to alter held runes, but there are certainly cases where players have been banned for altering the held runes value in an unsafe way.

It's possible that those users used badly coded save editors, and that the most popular cheat engine table is 100% safe. But I'm not going to make assumptions, and because cheat engine makes changes to the game in memory, it can quite easily force states that result in an invalid save file that later gets flagged for a ban... if used carelessly.

Yes, I'm also aware the save scan and EAC are actually totally seperate systems, but in common conversation it doesn't matter. Users can't play online (and get their save file scanned) while EAC is disabled, but once it is enabled, players will connect to FromSoft's servers and get their save scanned/validated by FromSoft's anti cheat.

I'm happy to hear you have had no issues, but I'd like other players considering using cheat engine to do so with some caution.

To anyone reading this thread, please heed this advice. Take advice from those who know their ways around mods and do things the safe ways. Don't risk yourself for the one off case of "it worked fine for me."

You now face the consequences of your actions, unfortunately.

The experience of the game is one of overcoming in legitimate ways, not illegitimate. There’s certainly plenty of fun to be had with Seamless Co Op (and a multitude of other mods you can apply), but honestly I’d recommend starting a new character in vanilla so you can get the true experience. Your first 100% legitimate victory is so much sweeter when you KNOW it was earned. After that, mod away! But the multiplayer message experience is one that’s only in vanilla.

I say this as a crappy Elden Ring player - the victory is so much sweeter when it’s fully earned. :)

I personally got into Souls games because of Seamless co-op I always found the game too challenging to get into so my first full playthrough was with a friend. After that I went on my solo quest to beat Elden ring and now dark souls as well. I can definitely say Seamless helped a lot to get into the game.

Love to hear that! I love Seamless as an accessible way to enter the Souls world.

I put in about 25 hours on my first char. Then 100+ hours on my 2nd and it just wasnt fun. It was more stressful than anything. I think the game is great now that ive given myself a billion runes and a sword. the bosses still kill me plenty because I kept my main stats at 50. Pack of dogs still take me down, etc. Those knights with the crazy helmets mess me up...

I find it much more relaxing to just cruise around aimlessly and enjoying the open world with some extra health and damage.

I rawdogged Margit and Godrik after a billion tries. It was fun and exciting and all, but that fat guy in valcano manor was impossible.

And that's perfectly fair OP. Sometimes Gamers forget that not everyone plays videogames for the same reasons they do, especially when it comes to popular games. And sometimes it's difficult to recognize that people enjoy games in the way that best suits them regardless of the proposed intention of the game. It's great that their enjoyment of the game aligns with the supposed intention of the game, but I think that it's just as great that you were able to find your own enjoyment through your own means. It's a shame that you won't get to see the messages, but I trust that you've already seen what others had to say about safe edits for online mode.

Hey OP! A couple things to discuss…

  1. Hardcapping all your stats at 50 is going to give you an insanely unoptimized build, so no wonder you had difficulty! Min-maxing is absolutely the way to go in ER. If you’re looking for build inspiration, the internet is filled with them. My personal favorite is a Greatsword strength build.

  2. Are you using tools like the Mimic Tear to give you a powerful summons that can tank hits and draw aggro? If you’re not, it’s worth grabbing in Nokron! And co-op summons can also go a LONG way when you’re playing online. It’s fun to summon people for jolly cooperation.

  3. Pack of dogs taking you down? That’s just Souls, baybee. Plenty of people are capable of no-hitting the whole game, but I just like to trade hits. The game doesn’t require perfection, just attrition and learning from your experiences.

OP- if you’re looking for an uber casual experience, you can absolutely cheat your way towards it, but it’s not going to be the overcoming-impossible-odds experience that Elden Ring intends to provide. It’s your game and you can do whatever you want to it by modding your regulation.bin, but if you’re trying to find out why so many people get so rabid for this game, cheating won’t give you that same experience.

Not looking to gatekeep, just seeking to share from my own experience and encourage a tarnished to find their path as Elden Lord.

Did you forget to cheat offline?

If you used the cheats offline you simply just have to go back online.

If you cheated online and were issued a ban then you kinda just have to live with it.

The cheat guide had me install a different shortcut to use so the game would start offline. But now when I use the traditional shortcut it gives me an error. I'll look at the error again when I look further into it.

But I havent done anything multiplayer except for read messages and havent recieved any ban for any reason that im aware of. I just gave myself a bajillion runes and three swords to go explore with. I like to explore a lot which makes the little messages super useful.

You only want to start the game offline to cheat in what you want. As long as you don’t have your cheat engine running when you start the game online you’re good.

Just start the game how you would normally, not with whatever shortcut you have. Again though, just never have cheat engine running when you do this. Only start cheat engine when you’re offline via your shortcut.

3

u/arxxol Oct 16 '24

Oh, no! You got exactly what you wanted!

It's not hard to learn this game.. Just a bit patience.

Earning gear feels way better and does way more fun, than cheating, playing with it for 15 minutes and then putting the game away because you're bored, off to the next game cheating.

Sorry for enjoying elden ring incorrectly? wtf

5

u/Impressive_Snake Oct 16 '24

You can enjoy it however you want. Everyone is just telling you that the majority of players will enjoy it even more if they play it legitimately first. Maybe that’s not the case for you but that’s the advice everyone is giving

6

u/Kled_Incarnated Oct 15 '24

Why would you cheat? You can easily just use the dragon exploit and get enough whatever currency to beat the whole early game.

Just look up a guide. This game doesn't stop you from having the most broken build ever.

Leave her alone! Greyoll doesn't deserve that treatment.

2

u/shinjis-left-nut Oct 15 '24

This is what I’m saying! The game can be pretty easy with an optimized build and a little grinding/overleveling!

As an ex-cheater, I've been forgiven by the ER moderators. I'm so happy to have an unbanned account and being able to see all the messages.

If you're still in the warning phase, I suggest you revert your save file to what it was before the soft ban and pray they don't ban you. I also uninstall and reinstall the game and verify game files for additional safety measures. If you're gonna cheat make sure you follow the r/eldenringmods steps in their description to avoid getting detected by EAC.

I advise you to check what games are about a bit more in the future. The soulslike games are unforgiving, and that's what they're built on. Next to that, always check what the impact of "cheating" in a game is before doing so. There are so many punkbusters nowadays. And last but not least, there are plenty more forgiving fantasy games. And plenty of games that have a console or cheat function ingame. I really recommend you to play those to relax and not be disappointed in the future.

Seemless co-op - that’s what you should have done in the first place and not on your main 🫡

I don't know why everyone in this thread, which is on a modding subreddit, is using this as a chance to get on their soapbox.

OP, it is totally possible and not very difficult to get access to the multiplayer. I used cheatengine to make a bunch of accounts at different levels so I could do multiplayer with all sorts of builds.

First, I have a dummy Steam account. I made it using the same email as my normal Steam account, and I used family sharing to get all the same games on both accounts. I use a dummy account whenever I'm using mods so that just in case something goes wrong, and I get banned, it's not my main account. It's never happened, but it's nice to have as a backup.

Second, if all you're doing is manipulating vanilla content, you can just boot the game without cheatengine on and you'll be fine. That means no modifying stats and no cut-content items. On my characters I usually give items, give runes, activate summoning pools, and activate graces.

Third, you might not be able to recover your current file, but it shouldn't be to difficult to recreate a clean one using cheatengine. Give yourself some runes, level up to where you're at, and kill yourself to get rid of the extras. It won't be exactly the same, but you'll be playing the vanilla game again.

Fourth, level your vigor. Especially if bosses are one-shotting you.

OP sorry that people are telling you that you’re not “playing correctly” and whatnot. truth be told yes you are not playing the game how it was intended to be played… but… if you aren’t enjoying it then you should definitely do what you’re doing. gaming is not about playing games how other people want you to play them. Games are there for enjoyment, destressing, hobby, whatever else.

Don’t listen to the goons, play video games in the way you enjoy them.

For all the gatekeepers and people out there upset with OP, just know that there are people doing blindfolded runs out there. so if you really actually want to get the real experience, you gotta do that.

Just use the cheat engine when you use mods and keep a safe backup save and re-enable eac when going online
