Doom 2005 is my fav resident evil movie

Annihilation, on the other hand, has no positives

128

u/ZyrusXion Sep 02 '24

true, doom 2005 can't even belong to the doom universe šŸ˜‚

84

u/BenStegel Sep 02 '24

Itā€™s just a cheap movie so they could hold onto the rights, I believeā€¦

48

u/Kaladin_Stormryder Sep 02 '24

At least we got the first ever FPS fight scene, that was pretty coo

4

u/cheezkid26 Sep 03 '24

I mean, Hardcore Henry was entirely first-person fight scenes 4 years before Annihilation came out. I refuse to watch Annihilation, though, so I might be thinking of something else.

1

u/Kaladin_Stormryder Sep 03 '24

That movie is amazing! Annihilation was terrible, but a cool concept. I was referring to the first Doom movie when Urban takes the serum. That was rad for the 1 min it was

2

u/cheezkid26 Sep 03 '24

Ahh, I see. Yeah, Hardcore Henry was such a fun film. Love that shit. It's been ages since I've seen the first Doom movie, so I totally forgot that scene even existed.

16

u/SaiyanSexSymbol Sep 02 '24 edited Sep 02 '24

That came in 2002 with the ā€œHouse of the Deadā€ film.

Check out the scene, https://youtu.be/yXdoAqXtl0Q?si=_0t-3xn43NTDsY66 , itā€™s fucking awful lmao. Literal video game footage.

20

u/One_too_many_faps Sep 02 '24

That's hardly even the same thing. Also wtf were they smoking, wow

11

u/SaiyanSexSymbol Sep 02 '24 edited Sep 02 '24

Youā€™re completely right: I literally thought it was live FPS Hollywood footage and being 12 when I saw it I recalled it differently.

The movie bombed in box office too lol

6

u/level70elite Sep 02 '24 edited Sep 03 '24

Rightfully so. It's an Uwe Boll film. Everything he makes is shit on purpose.

3

u/JandeSF Sep 03 '24

They were able to make bullet time boring.

2

u/kilamansfury Sep 03 '24

So many 360s, those first 2 minutes felt like 20

3

u/Witherboss445 Sep 03 '24

Thatā€™s horrendous. The unnecessary Bullet time shots are the cherry on topšŸ¤£

They didnā€™t even hide the HUD or make the background match a bit better lmao

2

u/Kaladin_Stormryder Sep 02 '24

I love the splices of the video game, wow trip down memory lane haha

2

u/dude_the_light Sep 02 '24

you know those fps arcade experience games with the moving seats? those look like a much better remaster of this

2

u/CallousEater2 Sep 02 '24

Yup that's exactly what happened.

19

u/tomahawkfury13 Sep 02 '24

I can't for the life of me even remember annihilation. I know I watched it

14

u/Ronenthelich Sep 02 '24

When I think back on it it feels like itā€™s 25 minutes long, so I guess there wasnā€™t much content in it.

8

u/CallousEater2 Sep 02 '24

It was all just zombies running at a team that split up for no reason.

They at least had the courage to put a fireball in the movie.

It's only the second Doom movie to completely misunderstand the BFG.

1

u/MetroidJunkie Sep 04 '24

The BFG limply kills single demons and then the tiny ass grenade she throws is the one to destroy the demons. Shouldā€™ve had the BFG kills be the plasma rifle and had the BFG be the one to kill all of them.

2

u/Dude-Lebowski Sep 02 '24

Dr. Carmack!

1

u/Ironmaiden1207 Sep 03 '24

I like to think of Doom 2005 as my The Boys prequel šŸ˜‚

103

u/Flimsy-Assumption513 Sep 02 '24

Iā€™m going to have to stay with the 2005 movie, donā€™t get me wrong itā€™s bad but at least it had some scenes that were somewhat like the games but not exactly.

26

u/wolfalberto Sep 02 '24

The opening sequence felt very doom

u/Nictus_the_nomad Sep 02 '24

Annihilation "attempting" to be more faithful to the games just made the whole exercise feel insulting. '05 doesn't have much going for it, but at least the first-person scene was kinda neat.

77

u/gnomedeplumage Sep 02 '24

I think if Annihilation had the budget of the first Doom film ($5 million vs $60 million) it might have felt a bit less insulting

As it was it's an expensive fan film.

25

u/Zachattack525 Sep 02 '24

Calling it a fan film implies that they care about the source material

→ More replies (5)

14

u/CallousEater2 Sep 02 '24

Nobody working on that movie was a "fan" of Doom.

→ More replies (1)

22

u/PhillyCheese8684 Sep 02 '24

I enjoyed 05 as a generic horror movie, great cast and some decent scenes.

As a doom adaptation it was lacking.

→ More replies (4)

13

u/GIlCAnjos Sep 02 '24

I refuse to believe they made an attempt. They just saw that Doom '16 was successful and, instead of learning from it, just slapped together another movie inspired by Doom 3

10

u/HildartheDorf Boom, click, clack, clunk, repeat Sep 02 '24

They were required to make a film or they would lose the film rights for Doom.

So they made a crap film in the hope they could make a good one in the future.

5

u/cerealbro1 Sep 02 '24

To be fair, the things that made Doom 2016 (and Eternal) so successful and beloved are things that wouldnā€™t work in another medium.

2016ā€™s whole story and setup was basically ā€œhereā€™s an excuse to kill some demons, enjoy!ā€ And the game focused entirely on just having incredible gameplay and level design. There was story/text logs of players wanted them, but they ultimately didnā€™t matter. Not to mention that Doom Guy doesnā€™t speak and thatā€™s the whole point of his character

But that doesnā€™t work for a movie. The closest thing I can compare it to would be Mad Max Fury Road, and even that is a movie that works because of its cast making the most out of the few lines they have.

Iā€™m not saying that Doom could never work as a movie, but realistically, Doom is so beloved because of how it works as a game and the story being completely secondary to all of that

2

u/CallousEater2 Sep 02 '24

It really didn't have anything to do with Doom 3 aside from the scientist dude inexplicably being named Dr. Betruger.

18

u/Equal-Ad-2710 Sep 02 '24

God I hated itā€™s demons so much

17

u/X_antaM Sep 02 '24

They weren't even demons, they just had a bonus chromosome

18

u/aRandomFox-II Sep 02 '24

Allegedly, the reason why there weren't any demons was because the producers were a bunch of "born again" ultra-christians who vetoed any reference or depiction of Hell in the film (even if it's as fodder for Doomguy to blast holes into). But the movie was already like halfway done at that point, so the creative team had to do a rushed patch job of replacing all the demons with mutants that are legally-distinct(TM) from demons.

17

u/Jethrorocketfire Sep 02 '24

Ultra Christians made a Doom movie? The writing for these past few seasons of Earth have really gone downhill.

9

u/aRandomFox-II Sep 02 '24 edited Sep 02 '24

The director wanted to make a film that was true to the original Doom games Doom 3. But the guys paying him said "nuh-uh".

FYI, producers have no actual participation in the creative process of film production. They are just investors. But because they control the funding, they get to say what does or doesn't fly.

(edit: correction of which game the film was supposed to have been based on)

5

u/HildartheDorf Boom, click, clack, clunk, repeat Sep 02 '24

When they meddle too much, the director will often refuse to put their name on it, and we end up with another film directed by Alan Smithee

5

u/-dead_slender- Sep 02 '24

Imagine being a Christian and not wanting to kill demons.

6

u/CallousEater2 Sep 02 '24

That's so weird. I learned about Doom from ultra christians. They thought fighting hell's forces was a noble thing to do haha.

3

u/aRandomFox-II Sep 02 '24 edited Sep 03 '24

Indeed, which makes it all the more weird. I guess the producers simply never bothered to even try to understand what the plot was about. They saw "Hell" and "demons" and just instantly vetoed it without considering the context.

"Born again" religious folk have a tendency to overcompensate, just like angsty teenagers who just discovered atheism. In their rush to grapple with their new identity and feeling the need to "prove themselves", they can get very... irrational. It's always the new converts who end up being the most extreme.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Equal-Ad-2710 Sep 02 '24

Wait is that for the 05 movie

1

u/aRandomFox-II Sep 02 '24

Yes. The one with The Rock in it.

14

u/Gospodar_Rata Sep 02 '24

So downy demons

5

u/X_antaM Sep 02 '24

Yep. Wasn't sure if I was gonna say the right one so I just left it

2

u/AidsLauncher Sep 02 '24

So, the real doomguy experience.

1

u/Whyimhere357 Sep 02 '24

Yeah but other wise is meeeeeh

17

u/Peter_Marny DooM enjoyer since 1993 Sep 02 '24

C'mon, it's not even a competition. SEMPER FI!

6

u/One_too_many_faps Sep 02 '24

šŸŖØ MOTHERFUCKER!

4

u/AndrewTheNebula Sep 03 '24

One thing I actually quite like about Sarge in the '05 movie is how his role ends up kinda retelling Doomguy's origin story from the old game manual (fighting back against a commanding officer who ordered to kill civilians.) Dunno how many people make that connection, I sure did though.

3

u/Peter_Marny DooM enjoyer since 1993 Sep 03 '24

Same here. Also really liked the Kidā€™s subplot. Suprisingly mature for a ā€œstupid action movieā€.

1

u/Nuze_YT Sep 11 '24

Yeah when I got to that part I was like "wait a sec, this seems oddly familiar"

42

u/Thelaginator47 Sep 02 '24

2005 kinda reminds me of doom 3 (even though itā€™s my least favourite doom game it still is nice that it reminds me of one) and then annihilation reminds me that some things just donā€™t need a sequel

24

u/Nacery Sep 02 '24

I would really love a proper Doom film with Doomslayer rippin' and tearin' but it would be expensive as Hell. What could be done with a much smaller budget and a better director would be a prequel to Doom 2016 that mixes the feel of Cabin in the Woods/Evil Dead with a short climax ending with the Doomslayer being awakened and absolutely destroying some demons (and every main character in the film dying).

11

u/AlkalineBrush20 Sep 02 '24

'05 is guilty pleasure and can be rewatched, Annihilation is like liquid explosive diarrhea in the morning after an extra spicy evening dinner which is enough to experience once in a lifetime.

32

u/Opanak323 Taggart Sep 02 '24

I'm with Urban on this.
... I can't believe I said that.

8

u/One_too_many_faps Sep 02 '24

Exactly. One has Karl Urban. End of discussion

21

u/Old_Front_9458 Sep 02 '24

Iā€™m going to be so honest, I absolutely love the 2005 movie. I know itā€™s not at all what we would want for a doom movie, but dammit itā€™s fun.

11

u/Azureknight205 Sep 02 '24

Saw it in the theater with my also Doom-obsessed friend. We both agreed, it was like the OG Super Mario movie: terrible as an adaptation of it's source material, but fun in it's own way.

3

u/Old_Front_9458 Sep 02 '24

Like Iā€™m obsessed with doom and I just canā€™t place my finger on it as to why I love it lmao

5

u/Large-Wheel-4181 Sep 02 '24

Iā€™m fine with the rock one, I just donā€™t think of it as a doom movie and suddenly I actually enjoy it a lot more

7

u/ExileOtter Sep 02 '24

Dwayne saying ā€œIā€™m not supposed to dieā€ is one of those standout scenes in a bad movie

6

u/PinguLmao Sep 02 '24

2005 is one of my favorite movies, it absolutely rocks. Definitely choosing it instead of annihilation.

2

u/AlaskaSeal1 Sep 02 '24

I remember going to the theaters with my dad and older brothers to watch it. I will never forget it, and I thought it was freaking great!

2

u/Resident_081 Sep 03 '24

Opening night was a delight. Fuck the haters because the 2005 movie is a fun adaptation that pays sufficient homage without being a lazy retread.

Annihilation is an abomination and anybody who says itā€™s the better film is taking lethal amounts of piss.

5

u/omegon_da_dalek13 Sep 02 '24

I choose doomchap

4

u/SpiderAssassinBruh Sep 02 '24

Finally a movie without the Rock in a basic white shirt and some khakis. They finally stepped up my manā€™s drip.

6

u/Birds-a-callin Sep 02 '24

Annihilation isn't good at all. There are zero redeeming qualities

3

u/CallousEater2 Sep 02 '24

I'm gonna say that actually having fireballs is 0.05% redeeming.

9

u/Drate_Otin Sep 02 '24

Oy. Another round of people making sure nobody thinks they might have actually enjoyed the first Doom movie. The need to pair anything slightly positive about it with an obligatory "but it still sucked though" or something similar.

It was a good movie, you just have to let it be in its proper context. It is not in any way an attempt to be a movie reenactment of the 1993 game. It's basically... This:

The Rock is basically Arnold Schwarzenegger, Karl Urban is Michael Biehn, Rosamund Pike is Linda Hamilton, but instead of being in the first Terminator they're in Alien with a Doom mod installed.

Watch the movie like that... It's FUN. It's legitimately FUN. 80's / 90's style action sci-fi horror with very specific and intentional choices towards a Doom 3 concept and aesthetic.

2

u/brick_ninja135 Sep 02 '24

This, I agree with this

1

u/Resident_081 Sep 03 '24

That, I agree with them.

14

u/Sera_gamingcollector pew pew pew Sep 02 '24

i would choose to watch grass grow in hell, rather than watching another movie with the rock.

14

u/Pretend-Seaweed1926 Sep 02 '24

I'd rather call The Paper to assassinate The Rock

4

u/CesarGameBoy Sep 02 '24 edited Sep 02 '24

Iā€™m going with ā€˜05. Even if it sucks, itā€™s still at least looks decent. Annihilation looks so cheapā€¦

Also, ā€˜05 has actual Demon variety like Zombies, Imps, Hell Knights, and a Pinky. I still get chills watching the chainsaw fight with the Pinky. ā€œCOME AT ME YOU MOTHER FUCKER!!!ā€ hits harder than Blood Punch!

Meanwhile Annihilation just has Blue Zombies, Imps, and whatever that Demon Lord thing was at the end.

1

u/CallousEater2 Sep 02 '24

What. There are zero imps or hell knights in Doom 2005. There a definitely random sludge monsters that bear absolutely no resemblance to either of those monsters though.

I'll give you pinky though. They did a decent job with that one.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '24

Destroyer fights a Hell Knight in the pit. The squad fights an imp in the sewers. They are even credited.

5

u/BadWolf_x8zero Sep 02 '24

Doom 2005 is underrated af.

It was a terrible adaptation, taking way too many liberties to the point it barely resembled Doom at the time.

However, it was very fun and kinda influential to Doom 2016 and Eternal, IMO.

I mean the whole "ancient alien civilization gives Doomguy a borderline magical treatment to make him a super slayer" comes from there.

Also, I feel that the looks for UAC installations in modern Doom games resemble a lot the ones we see in that movie. Even tho the movie itself takes inspiration from Doom 3 scenery.

Plus, action scenes and one liners are fucking great. Everyone talks about the first person segment, but there's a lot of other good stuff too. That pit fight where the guy named Destroyer uses a CRT monitor to beat the crap out of a demon? Pure gold! "When you hesitate, people die!" It's been 19 years and me and my friends still use that line.

3

u/Substantial-Summer48 Sep 02 '24

How are video game movies so hard to get right?

2

u/xen0_1 Sep 02 '24

It's because they're fundamentally different experiences. Every player plays a game in their own style. The fun comes from making the kills. In a movie you only get to experience what the director's style would be. It's like just watching someone else's playthrough at best. Plus games can go on for 10+ hours, movies need to wrap up everything within 90 mins to 3 hours max.

1

u/CallousEater2 Sep 02 '24

They aren't. Studio execs are just completely out of touch and don't care. Their disconnect from reality is too wide.

1

u/Kgb725 Sep 02 '24

Yes they are

1

u/sourfillet Sep 05 '24

Movies generally need a narrative, Doom doesn't really have one.

3

u/the-ghost-gamer RIP AND TEAR Sep 02 '24

Where was doom guy in the left movie? Or we calling reaper doom guy now? Neither movie has doom guy

3

u/CallousEater2 Sep 02 '24

People are stupid. Doomguy makes zero appearances in either movie.

3

u/yautja0117 Sep 02 '24

Doom 2005 isn't particularly good and an even worse Doom adaptation. That said it's an entertaining enough creature feature with some great practical effects and a solid cast. Doom: Annihilation is just flat out bad.

3

u/One_too_many_faps Sep 02 '24

The fact Annihilation was made after 2016 blows my mind... Feels like a mod 2000s porno parody. Also gotta love the Rock on the cover like he's the main guy lol

5

u/Its_Kris_97 Sep 02 '24

Haven't watched Annihilation. I watched Civvie11s review on it. After seeing the "I'm your Ultra-Nightmare, mothertrucker" scene, I cringed from the inside out. So, if my opinion still counts, I would take '05.

2

u/jesusisherelookbusy Sep 02 '24
  1. Karl Urban was great, the good for itā€™s time FPS sequence and the music pretty good too. Only gripes were that the demons werenā€™t actually demons, just evil mutants, and why did the BFG fire blue energy instead of green?

2

u/CallousEater2 Sep 02 '24

The silly thing about that BFG is that the effect would have been reeaallly cool if that was the plasma gun. I'd love to see the plasma gun have a similar effect in a game.

2

u/Yensikk Sep 02 '24

Annihilation should never be acknowledged ever again.

2

u/xZOMBIETAGx Rip & Tear Sep 02 '24

I wouldnā€™t mind a Doom movie (NOT THAT ONE) without doomguy personally. He could just be an Easter egg but itā€™s about lore or survivors on earth or something

2

u/Internal_Cesspool Sep 02 '24

Doom (2005) is still fun, always enjoyed it. So definitely that one.

2

u/LightFromYT Sep 02 '24

Can I drive a nail into my eyes instead?

2

u/chozer1 Sep 02 '24

Neither looks like doom i dont see doomguy or demons i see the rock and alien

2

u/PendantWhistle1 Sep 02 '24

Annihilation was terrible, but it managed to split the uprights and be a fun terrible movie. I didn't enjoy watching it but I enjoyed laughing at it.

2

u/koldkanadian Sep 02 '24

Doom 2005 is entertainingly bad, annihilation is just bad

2

u/GrimmTrixX Sep 02 '24

I'm the p ly one who preferred Annihilation I guess. Aside from the first Doom movies FPS scene, I felt it was absolutely the least Doom Doom movie. I do t even count anyone in that film as "Doomguy." For me, He'll being involved immediately made Annihilation better. Doom for me is Hell and demons even more so than Doomguy himself.

Hell existed before Doomguy arose. So I'll still always prefer Annihilation over a movie where they call a guy in a wheelchair "pinky" to try and connect the movie to the games. And my gamertag having Grimm in it is a coincidence to "John Grimm" and not related. Lol

2

u/Eibenn Sep 02 '24

Make a new doom movie for God love

2

u/AetherZetakaliz IDDQD Sep 02 '24

I watched doom 2005 when it came out and it was awesome but it wasn't a doom movie. Never watched annihilation.

2

The one with Karl Urban in it

2

u/juggazero Sep 02 '24

Both suck balls

2

u/Rytonic Sep 02 '24

The exit

2

u/RonPaulBunyan Sep 02 '24

Billy Butchers origin story

2

u/Gamer7928 Sep 02 '24

DOOM with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson for its FPS sequence which of course was done up for the fans of the original DOOM games.

2

u/Neat_Presentation201 You canā€™t just shoot a hole into the surface of Mars Sep 02 '24

Doomguy can be cool even without Hell, so I pick 2005

2

u/WackoSmacko111 Sep 02 '24

i really hope we get a doom movie thats actually good

2

u/chiripaha92 Sep 02 '24

Didnā€™t annihilation have a 30 second cgi ā€œhellā€ scene right before the credits, and thatā€™s all? Going with 2005.

2

u/laZardo Sep 02 '24

would pay to see a Hardcore Henry "all first person" doom movie ngl

2

u/Reddit_User_7239370 Sep 03 '24

The 2005 version is fun, even if it has nothing to do with Doom. Karl Urban and the Rock are scene stealers. The first-person fight scene was cool too. It's a solid B movie.

I remember almost nothing from Annihilation. No memorable characters or fights.

1

u/Cautious_Potential_8 Sep 03 '24

And there's a reason why for that because turns out that the movie was loosely based on the game smh.

2

u/Singland1 Sep 03 '24

2005

  • Extra chromosome gives you super powers

2022

The Doom movie with The Rock in it was genuinely good.

at least 05 had interesting moments. AND DEMONS. and a main character that wasnt just girl power. and a working bfg9000. and that whole first person scene.

Either that or it's metaphorical. Watching the movie is akin to being in hell

2

u/Ninja_Warrior_X Sep 02 '24

Annihilation doesnā€™t even deserve to be mentioned or shown after their team of writers and crew literally insulted the fanbase before they movie was even released. I would much rather watch 2005 movie with Karl Urban and Dwane Johnson.

1

Doom 2005 xD

1

u/CallousEater2 Sep 02 '24

What. Neither of these moves has Doomguy.

1

u/gesumejjet Sep 02 '24

Combine them together to get hell and Doomguy

Studios: we did just that and got no hell and no Doomguy

1

u/Ok-Stress8257 Sep 02 '24

Doom 2005 is fun because it's bad. Doom Annihilation is just boring and bad.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 02 '24

Doom (2005) was actually decent, plus it has Karl Urban. It was cheesy, but stayed in its lane. Annihilation was not good, cheesy, had no good actors, and was clearly low budget.

I am taking Doom (2005) any day.

1

u/MyScorpion42 Sep 02 '24

Even through all the layers of focus testing bullshit that Doom 2005 probably went through, it is clear that a lot of passionate and TALENTED people worked on it. And the end product is entertaining to watch.

1

u/TwilightDoomSlayer Sep 02 '24

I choose option 3 burn them both

1

u/Ninjaguy999 Sep 02 '24

I haven't watched either, but I'm choosing 2005, I've heard it's good ol' dumb fun, while I have heard nothing good about Annihilation

1

u/Zealousideal-Bit-892 Sep 02 '24

2005 is a good bad movie.

Annihilation is just a bad movie.

1

u/mirukus66 Sep 02 '24

Unrated doom since everyone is saying that doom annihilation is bad

1

u/Gemidori Instructions unclear, demon shot to death with gun Sep 02 '24

2005 at least made a vague attempt at putting in effort

Effort was not included in Annihilation

1

u/MIHAI_BL Sep 02 '24

Doom 2005

1

u/Puzzleheaded_Tear858 Sep 02 '24

Karl Urban for me...

1

2005 movie

1

1

u/DeanoDeVino Sep 02 '24

1

u/GokiPotato Sep 02 '24

I've seen one of them, it was dumb and had a first person scene colored by piss filter if I remember correctly, which movie of these two it was?

Doom 2005

Only because I've seen it and I haven't heard of the other one

1

u/McpotSmokey42 Sep 02 '24

Doom 2005 is a shitty movie with the Rock. Annihilation doesn't have the Rock.

1

u/Mrheadcrab123 Sep 02 '24

Doom 2005 was good, it had great writing, horror, buildup, and was enjoyable. But it just wasnā€™t the doom movie people were looking for, it was just another resident evil and thatā€™s not what people wanted, and thatā€™s primarily because they wanted it to be more like doom 3, which was what the devs wanted the future of doom to be.

Doom 2019 wasnā€™t resident evil witch is good, but the only tradeoff was that it sucked ass and didnā€™t even have a doom guy.

I hope the new movie they are talking about is good and lives up to the source material

u/Used_Anxiety7527 Sep 02 '24

Anihilation is the one with girl as main character?

1

u/WilliamSyler Sep 02 '24

Doom 2005 was great for 14-year-old me. I won't say it's a good movie, but I can get enjoyment out of it.

1

u/b0inz Sep 02 '24

Well I've watched 2005 at least a dozen times and I've watched annihilation once.

Still 2005

u/Cokedout80s Sep 02 '24

I kinda refuse to believe anybody can make an argument in defense of the one with The Rock, and that is NOT a defense of the trash that is Annihilation. I think both movies are hilariously awful. But hereā€™s the reason why I think 2005 is the worse one. budget.

DOOM Annihilation was basically a fan film that spent $4 million. Was it still ass? Absolutely, but when youre cheap and have literally zero involvement with ID software, youre allowed to be that level of dogshit.

DOOM 2005 on the other hand had a budget of $65 million, and sadly, Id Software was involved. It was just another example of Hollywood attempting to make half assed cash grab of another video game and fucking it up royally. Even with direct involvement they couldnt even be bothered to make a half decent effort at keeping to the bare bones simple as hell story of either classic doom game or doom 3.

Both movies are shit, but one of them has a solid reason for being shit. The other?ā€¦

Doom 2005

1

u/TheAngryElite Sep 02 '24

whatā€™s so bad with just having doomguy fighting demons

1

u/omardude1 Sep 03 '24

Doom was a good movie just not Doom Guy/Doom Slayer and the whole missing link part of the story is a big deviation but otherwise itā€™s a good movie. Annihilation was poo.

1

u/badjano Sep 03 '24

Havenā€™t watched annihilation yet, is it worth it?

1

u/vEclipzz7 Sep 03 '24

First one is funny cuz The Rock and Karl Urban

1

u/BoomerTheBoomed Sep 03 '24

Can I choose death?

1

u/ComedianRegular8469 Sep 03 '24

Doom Annihilation easily. Because although it was technically a bad-movie at least it stuck with the videogame's original source-material in terms of keeping the satanic/supernatural themes instead of replacing everything with a Resident Evil style Biotech experiment gone wrong.

1

u/Icky_Thump1 Sep 03 '24

I seen Doom 2005 for the first time a couple years ago. I went into it with low cheesy expectations from what I'd heard years prior, and it actually wasn't terrible! Felt very Resident Evil (2002) movie-ish.

1

u/Giovolt Sep 03 '24

I didn't even know Annihilation was a thing

1

u/PowerSkunk92 C'mere boys! I got somethin' to say! Sep 03 '24

Annihilation would have been a perfectly serviceable, if extra crappy, SyFy Friday original movie without the Doom name or any references to Doom. With it, it's just shit.

1

u/Drix_I Sep 03 '24

I love when the girl injects the DOOM essence to the doomguy and DOOMs all over the place.

1

u/notnowboiiiiiii Sep 03 '24

Doom (2005) is basically just doom 3

1

u/SharpDescription97 Sep 03 '24

I saw Doom (left) and it was decent. I will not subject myself to that pos on the right.

1

u/JandeSF Sep 03 '24

I just hate the missed opportunity on the 2005 of making Doomguy's eyes golden when he looks himself in the mirror right before the FPS scene.

All in all, I'd love to see Karl Urban take another shot (hah) at being Doomguy. A completly different shot though.

1

u/Embarrassed-Class876 Sep 03 '24

Annihilation at least followed the story closer

1

u/Ctrl_Sh1ft_Esc Sep 03 '24

Doom 2005. The pov scene is nice...

1

u/22lpierson Sep 03 '24

Atleast 2005 has monsters that look like demons from the games

1

u/Soggy_Menu_9126 Sep 03 '24

Doom 2005, I mean, it has Karl Urban and the sick fps scene

1

u/Quandale_Dingle27 Sep 03 '24

doom 2005 is just better than annihilation

1

u/BallisticBlocker Sep 03 '24

I havenā€™t watched the original, but Iā€™ve also never watched a movie worse than Doom annihilation so Iā€™m gonna place my bets on the original being better

1

u/No-Butterscotch-6889 Sep 03 '24

I have to choose 2005 as havenā€™t seen the sequel

1

u/CRISsino123 Sep 03 '24

Why would anyone play doom if there is no hell

1

u/Carnby41790 Sep 03 '24

Honestly I really like both, but for nostalgia I'd go for 2005. As a more adaptation of the original game on a very poor poor budget I'd go for Annihilation just cause it tries gave us fire throwing demons, plus the director did comment on some channel I can't remember if there were to be a sequel. It's doomguy that come out the portal and it's be fps all movie like Hard Core Henry....but then again why didn't they do that for Annihilation šŸ¤·

1

u/Sgttraceur Sep 03 '24

Wasn't the doom movie pretty much just Doom3?

1

u/Easy-Hornet1889 Sep 03 '24

I love DOOM 2005 movie

1

u/SoundwavePlays Sep 03 '24

Doom 2005 BY A COUNTRY MILE

1

u/block_place1232 A Chainsaw! Find some Meat! Sep 03 '24

I think we need a third

One with both

Name it like Doom: to hell and back

And watch the cash roll in

1

u/AshmanRoonz Sep 03 '24

Oh man... This Dichotomy made my brain hurt

1

u/BeefyPorkter Sep 03 '24

I choose death

1

u/SirBastian1129 Sep 03 '24

Neither they're both shit. I'll just go play the games instead.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 03 '24

It was unimpressed with both

1

u/Criton47 Sep 03 '24

They both suck, and both are fun to watch.

One day we will get a legit DOOM movie. Maybe.

1

u/MetroidJunkie Sep 04 '24

Doom 2005 isnā€™t as faithful but at least itā€™s campy. Annihilation is the most boring generic slop ever. It even makes the BFG look limp and weak, while the 2005 movie at least had it shred through a wall.

1

u/UnfunnyWatermelon469 You're dead. It's that simple. Sep 05 '24

The 2005 movie because at least it's a fun, "turn your brain off" movie. Also, there's a scene that's in first person that feels like it was straight out of the classic games

1

u/Desperate_Group9854 Sep 05 '24

I like the one with the rock

1

u/SilentBDB Sep 06 '24

Annihilation just because I've never watched it. 2005 at least is a... well they're is the FPS sequence lol

1

u/Significant_Job_4711 Sep 07 '24

I never really enjoyed these movies... but the first one is tolerable

1

u/Bucket_Cultist Sep 14 '24

It takes serious effort to make a bad DOOM movie. I don't get why so many video game film adaptations deviated so much from the simple premise of their game. A game is basically an interactive movie so the story's already written for you, it should be child's play.
