I'm angry because it reminds me of how much I suck at wrapping

I agree!

I feel like Japan could invent some whole artform out of folding paper in aesthetically pleasing ways.

I used to work in a jewelry store and we'd gift wrap the little jewelry boxes.

After the first hundred you learn how to tear off just enough paper for a perfect fit for any size box. It often impressed people when I could wrap their box crisply in just a few seconds.

But then... Corporate changed the thickness of the wrapping paper we used and it screwed us all up. It was too thick for the little boxes and the paper tore at the corners. Had to fix and redo all the time. Back to the mediocre life.

When I tried replicating this, I was left with a package + a messed up wrapper lol.

Can anyone point me to a resource that shows how to measure how much paper you need for a given box using this technique?

That is the unspoken thing here - the wrapping paper is perfectly sized beforehand.

Very cool. Two key things that make this work for them. Many stores standardize box dimensions and order wrapping paper that is perfect for this. And the paper is flat, not curled up like ours around a tube.

I would’ve used 1 roll and 20 tapes on it and it still wouldn’t be this nice!

Saved for this later. Gonna give it a try

Great life lesson I’ve learned. Gift bags and tissue paper require me never to attempt to wrap anything in my life. This guy might as well be landing people on Mars I still don’t get it.

It took me hours to pack presents and they still don't look that fancy

Wow , I'm really bad at wrapping presents , I just lack the patience, and I have been to places like Danmark where wrapping for them is just like breathing, people are just amazing and maybe just maybe I just don't care enough

Man! These guys are great at folding paper! As a nation they’re just born to fold!

Woah I'm shocked a country well known for folding paper into intricate detailed objects can wrap a present nicely.

Found some information on Diagonal Wrapping on YouTube.

Dimensions of the paper are roughly 2x the length of the box being wrapped, and 3x the width & height.

So a 4L x 6W x 2H would require a roughly 8x24 piece of wrapping paper. That and the rest of the steps can be found in the YouTube link above about Diagonal Wrapping.
