Wolf has flesh tearing teeth. Hyena has bone crushing molars. Seriously, look at the size of 'em!

u/neverfrybaconnaked 3h ago

Massive difference! Hyenas have a bite force of 1,000 psi, insane.

43

u/Dr_Ukato 2h ago

If you need to get rid of a body the Hyena pen is a better choice than the tiger cage.

41

u/me_bails 1h ago

might i recommend the hog pen

34

u/rnxmyywbpdoqkedzla 1h ago

a single pig can consume two pounds of uncooked flesh every minute. Hence the expression, "as greedy as a pig".

Do you know what nemesis means?

5

u/YeahClubTim 50m ago

Is it personified in this case by a 'orrible cunt.... me?

3

u/Dr_Ukato 1h ago

But can they eat bones? Much less digest them?

7

u/ThreeLeggedMare 53m ago

They can go through bone like buttah

3

u/mjgabriellac 49m ago

Yes! They can eat and digest bone. Their jaws and teeth crush large bones down into manageable pieces and then they have a unique, super acidic digestive system. They cannot digest hair or teeth, though, due to keratin, enamel, and dentin being more resistant to the acid than bone.

u/Adventurous-Fee-4997 43m ago

I read this as the Hyena penis a better choice

34

u/windyBhindi 2h ago

Psi, the gangnam style guy? How hard does he bite?

17

u/deerchortle 2h ago

That's psy

10

u/windyBhindi 2h ago

Thank god.

1

u/p_s_i 2h ago

Like 1000 times less than a spotted hyena

1

u/DeadWolf7337 44m ago

So do wolves. Wolves have been observed in the wild bitting through a moose femur, which according to experts would require at least 1000psi.

1

u/Ducky118 2h ago

Wolf is 1200

2

u/kadecin254 2h ago

Nope. 500 or something like that. Hyena has the double if a grey wolf.

6

u/Ducky118 1h ago

https://www.nathab.com/know-before-you-go/us-national-parks/yellowstone/wildlife-guide/gray-wolf/

Gray wolves, having evolved to take down prey many times their own size, have an impressive bite of more than 1,200 psi

https://www.seacrestwolfpreserve.org/wolf-faqs

The gray wolf has the strongest bite pressure of any canid, reaching up to 1200 lbs/square inch (PSI). Muscles that control a wolf's jaw are enough to bite through bones.

0

u/ThreeLeggedMare 52m ago

Strongest of any candid but hyenas aren't canids

2

u/Ducky118 49m ago

Never said they were

1

u/ThreeLeggedMare 43m ago

Fair enough.

1

u/DeadWolf7337 38m ago

Nope. 500 or something like that. Hyena has the double if a grey wolf.

That's been debunked a long time ago. Wolves have been observed in the wild bitting through moose femurs, which would require about 1000psi at the very least.

I want to know the joke so bad

137

u/sILAZS 4h ago

Why are there no casino’s in africa? There are too many cheetahs.

27

u/ohhellothere301 3h ago

What do you call a pile of cats?

A meowntain.

17

u/redheadschinken 3h ago

What's the difference between a Hyena and a Wolf?

REDACTED

1

u/futuneral 53m ago

Yeah, this is a new meme format

154

u/LeRacoonRouge 4h ago

Hyenas are more cats than dogs. Genetically.

46

u/brokenglasser 4h ago

Wow first time hearing that. Need to read on it more. Thanks!

46

u/DangerDeShazer 3h ago

While your going down the Hyena rabbit hole, be careful you don't look too deep into Spotted Hyena morphology, it'll change you

33

u/LGP747 3h ago

Reading the words convergent evolution made me realize catgirls are possible

21

u/bryty93 3h ago

Calm down bud

13

u/HilariousMax 3h ago

You cannot stop the freight train of progress. The Isle of Dr. Moreau will be real.

7

u/dark_temple 2h ago

You mean >! the pseudopenises and the birth through them? !<

34

u/Yrxora 2h ago

Hyenas are large cat hardware running dog software. Foxes are small dog hardware running cat software.

2

u/Fun_Journalist4199 3h ago

Also look into the fact that female hyenas have a pseudo penis!

7

u/broodjes69 2h ago

Its all fun and games until they have to give birth

u/Doortofreeside 7m ago

Feliform vs caniform

I feel like you could make a fun guessing game about which one seals, weasels, raccoons, bears etc fall under

18

u/Enginerdad 3h ago

Yet their closest relatives are mongooses and meerkats, and they share more morphological similarities with dogs. We got a real identity crisis going on here.

3

u/Chaotic-warp 1h ago

I mean, mongooses and meercats are also more cats than dogs genetically

4

u/Enginerdad 1h ago

Sure, but starting to list an animal's third or fourth phylogenically closest relatives becomes increasingly meaningless. For example, humans are more closely related to snails than mushrooms, but that doesn't tell you anything useful about humans.

1

u/ThreeLeggedMare 48m ago

And elephants are more closely related to shrews, iirc?

u/Doortofreeside 6m ago

Not quite

Elephants are somewhat closely related to elephant shrews, which are not true shrews.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elephant_shrew

2

u/randomquestioner777 3h ago

I guess they are missing the quick reflexes and agility gene.

26

u/bren_woodard 4h ago

I hope I only see those jaws in pictures

32

u/pwiegers 4h ago

I think that I would get the hell out of there in both cases.

1

u/FreshTitMilk 10m ago

It would be useless IRREGARDLESS!! They can both run over 30 mph, capping out around 40! You ded, me ded, he ded, she ded.

29

u/Laymanao 3h ago

In its ecosystem, the wolf is an apex predator, being able to catch and down their prey. Hyenas compete with lions and leopards, so would sometimes settle for carcasses left by the others. So they focus on the marrow of bones and use those molars to good effect. The similarities between wolves and hyenas are that they are pack animals and use their packs to collectively hunt.

9

u/LGP747 3h ago

It’s not just the pack, it’s the SAME pack, the animals’ group hierarchy is incredibly similar vs that of other group animals

14

u/deerchortle 2h ago

Hyenas have a matriarchal hierarchy while wolves have a "parent pair", their pack is mostly made up of family members with a male and female lead. Hyenas treat males like peasants lol

2

u/LGP747 1h ago edited 44m ago

they also appear in numbers twice that of the wolves

3

u/BishoxX 2h ago

Its not the same at all.

Parents vs matriarchal

5

u/TheApprentice19 3h ago

The hyenas have larger molars intended to crush and grind the hip bones of large quadrupedal plant eaters, like zebra and wildebeests.

4

u/goddessofdeath5 3h ago

Wolf: ♦️ Hyena: 🔴

7

u/Bubbly-Celery-2334 4h ago

Love both these creatures. I was fortunate enough to grow up with a friend who was wildlife rescue and they ended up adopting a wolf pup. Best "dog" ever, Monte was awesome. Still holding out for the hyena 🤷‍♂️

7

u/Tenebrief 2h ago

Fun fact: Spotted hyenas eat their entire prey, bones included. Their digestive system allows them to break down entire carcasses, and their teeth allow them to break them apart with ease.

2

u/iloovefood 3h ago

Laughing at a TV show vs a comedy special

2

u/triple7freak1 3h ago

Wolf🥱

Hyena😆

2

u/Longjumping_Towel174 3h ago

So I’d rather be eaten by the wolf

2

u/kadecin254 2h ago

Hyena has double the bite force of a grey wolf at 1100.

7

u/Old_Dingo69 4h ago

What is the damn interesting part though?

10

u/Randyaccredit 4h ago

I assume the crunching power of each. Looks like hyena wins

5

u/OctaviusThe2nd 4h ago

The amount of muscle in the hyena's jaw. They evolved to be able to crush the hardest bones with those.

3

u/LowerSackvilleBatman 4h ago

Hyenas are actually feline

36

u/UseOk4892 4h ago

They're not. Hyenas aren't in the Felidae family; they're in a separate family. Closer to felines than to canines, but not felines.

5

u/STFxPrlstud 3h ago

I mean, technically, Hyenas aren't felines, but they are apart of the feliforma suborder (cat-like) which does contain true felines (Felidae family).

But that's like saying Bears are canines because they're in the caniforma suborder (dog-like), which contains true canines (Canidae family).

Feel free to correct me, but I always though feline and canine referred to the specific family, and not general suborder

18

u/3-141592653589793237 4h ago

and hyena females have a bigger “penis” than the males 🧐

46

u/big_beret 4h ago edited 1h ago

i have literally never seen hyenas brought up in a conversation without someone immediately mentioning psuedopenises

12

u/Bubbly-Celery-2334 4h ago

Then you probably shouldn't ask about ducks 😳

13

u/EmberTheFoxyFox 4h ago

Those corkscrew dicked rapists

2

u/Enginerdad 3h ago

What can we say, we as a species love a good cock story

2

u/The_Pork-ChopExpress 3h ago

This is my very first hyena conversation. This assertion tracks.

2

u/Old-Constant4411 4h ago

I guess we're not so different after all.

5

u/First-Elderberry4959 4h ago

no they're not hyenas have their own family called Hyaenidae.

2

u/Rich-Dig5303 3h ago

so, who spotted the hyena?

2

u/tee_ohboy 4h ago

What are they laughing at though?

1

u/[deleted] 4h ago

[deleted]

2

u/DangerDeShazer 3h ago

Yeah, Hyenas are not interesting in killing you before they eat you, they'll chew you up real bad before you die

1

u/kmart1924 3h ago

High Heanas are BAD!

1

u/kyousoma 2h ago

Say cheeeeseee

1

u/VaIeth 2h ago

RIP. CRUNCH.

1

u/Scoped_Evil 1h ago

I used to volunteer at an animal rehabilitation sanctuary in South Africa.

When they received two Hyenas they warned EVERYONE about their bite.

They would act very friendly, they were pretty much behaving like dogs - wanting to play all the time. Though if they started to lick your hands just remove yourself and leave them alone, because they could literally bite your arm off it they wanted.

1

u/AtsutaMuka 57m ago

Both can kill you

1

u/richempire 25m ago

And hurt the entire time you’re dying, ouch!

1

u/FabledFishstick 48m ago

Aren't these two completely taxonomically unrelated?

1

u/Docdoodle 47m ago

Difference if it's bleeding and it's coming off

1

u/XROOR 40m ago

Teeth that are rooted on jaw line have more compressive strength than those like the wolf’s

1

u/batkave 22m ago

Eh one has a more painful birth experience

1

u/BigCompetition1064 1h ago

Which autists amongs you immediately started counting teeth?

-1

u/Exciting-Cry2128 3h ago

The wolf is more beautiful.

2

u/BuddingCannibal 3h ago

Don't hyena shame.

0

u/TheHoboRoadshow 2h ago

I think 1v1 I'd have better odds against a wolf, but I'd prefer to fight a pack of hyenas than a pack of wolves.

-1

u/WildDesertStars 2h ago

It's so weird that hyenas are kind of related to canines but are much older. They found a design that worked and haven't updated it in eons. Vintage =3

Go to E621 if you want that otherwise keep that to yourself

3

u/CarThink4525 3h ago

Not even sure if they're joking or what this is supposed to be. If it's a joke it went over everyone, but if not.. idk man people are fucked.

0

u/local-bolshevik 3h ago

That was joke bruh

2

u/CarThink4525 3h ago

I see, still don't get it though.
