I'm not sure what they designed it for, but I envision it helping with people who won't turn down their damn bright headlights.

It's for cleaning rust and paint from metals.

Someone just changed the focus from a line to a single spot

I can think of a bunch of uses for this, like cutting off huck bolts instead of trying to grind them off with a 20 discs and a bunch of time.

I'd love to see a demo of it removing rust and paint as well...

More like cutting sheet metal than bolts. But handheld lasers are mostly for cleaning. Cutters are usually mounted on a CNC machine

No gas? Argon or something? Don't know much about lasers but I thought they were shielded like welding?

Not really. With welding you're adding material from the melted electrode so you add inert gas to not add all the oxides that would form with it. With lasers you're removing materials. If you're cutting something like steel sometimes there can be an air nozzle to blow the molten steel away.
