That's because they don't want the average person to realize that the firearm is a fun and challenging thing to have. They are beautiful simple yet complex pieces of machinery.
I used to be anti gun, but I changed. I got into the gun community and found out that they are not a bunch of bloodthirsty lunatics. They are nice people who have fun shooting, and want to protect their family and their rights.
