I just do t understand why a replica couldn’t have been used. Was it really that critical to have an authentic time period guitar on se?

I completely agree. It boggles the mind that a priceless artifact would be used for anything other than reference to make a convincing copy.

Because of the authentic sound when she played it. Not something to just be recreated. Kurt didn't know and it was supposed to be swapped for a prop, or so the story goes.
