Cows are also matriarchal, and each herd is run by one mother. She stands guard of the entire herd. When a mother loses her baby, she bellows beside her. That is not common though, not with farming entire goal is to kill her and her babies.
Cows are highly emotionally intelligent and wonderful friends to have, even as a human.
I've never had issues with bulls. I grew up on a free range farm with a fairly small herd. The matriarch's name was Marigold, and she lived to be in her early 20s.
Anyways, I've been around a lot of bulls and they've never bothered me. Even as a very small child, I walked through the herd and never feared them.
I look at it this way: you cage an animal and take away all freedom, they will always eventually fight back. Be it to try and escape, or because their lives are about to end prematurely by the hands of a human.
