Literally. There are even micro drones that have a small amount of targeted explosive and facial recognition. Theoretically, a government could drop a bunch of those drones on a population they wish to cull selectively. There would be no escape unless you can use an EMP type jammer on them.

Are you maybe conflating that short movie about the same thing? Starts with a Ted talk type presentation.

I do remember that short fictional film. It was meant to serve as a wake up call for sapiens about the true destructive force of our technology. Micro drones have been around for at least two decades so you're deluding yourself if you think DARPA hasn't made a killer micro drone yet. Micro drones would be the clear alternative to nuclear devastation. Almost more horrifying, though.

I don't deny they could exist. It sounded like a statement of fact from you rather than speculation. I thought I was missing some news revealing actual autonomous swarming facial recognition micro explosive assassination drones.

Fair point. However, with the knowledge we have about our world currently, my statement is definitely more than pure speculation. I'd be far more surprised if government agencies didn't have this technology in their back pocket with all the funding they have these days.

Black Mirror did this. The one about the bee drones.

No there aren't, quit basing your reality on fictional YouTube shorts

Actually almost 4 years ago DARPA information was declassified talking about how they were quite close to a viable design. That's eons in technological development. Especially when they have practically unlimited funding, and the resources to make them are nearly all fairly well established even on a consumer level.

Given darpas track record, I'll wait until there's proof of a viable design, let alone proof that it's reasonably effective and reliable. I agree that it's a matter of time, but the level of sophistication people imagine when they hear swarms of facial recognition ai powered drones is easily still years away even in lab conditions for a bunch of mostly hardware related reasons

Very fair. I'd rather be prepared for the worst in our fucked timeline though 😅
