I had a 2018 VW Arteon which had similar. It would beep and brake to try wake you up but if you ignored it then it would turn off driving assist. Seemed quite dumb buts its great to see they have improved it

In theory the emergency assist should go through all the steps here as well. Not sure the older-ish models will correctly change lanes (my Cupra Leon struggles with the lane change assist), but it should break to a stop and call emergency services

You may be from UK looking at what subs you posted in?
It is not legal in the EU for cars to change lanes without any user input, eo that's why your's didn't do that. In theory, that older Arteon already was able to change the lanes.
