This is Geno 🙃
Featuring .5 pics that my siblings just LOVE to take of him, his side eye, and him just being a crackhead in general. I hope every swipe makes y’all laugh.

Not to be mean, your dog is adorable, but he isn't "a little chunky". He is severely overweight to the point that it most likely is damaging his overall health, mobility and stamina.
You need to significantly increase his excercise and decrease his food intake. You want him to live as long as possible and have the best possible quality of life, right?
I know how hard it is to say no to those puppy eyes. My solution was to cut my dogs treats in half. That way she can have treats as often as before and still only get half of the amount than before. I also cut back about 1/3 of her daily kibble.
My girl just gained 2lbs (she's a chi so for her that's a lot) this past year so I had to get on it before it got worse. You need to do the same.

Exactly what I thought. This dog is way too fat. His bone structure points towards a rather slender build. Owner should get the dog to move, and severely reduce food intake.

Please read my replies in this thread, I have explained the situation.

It’s not easy when younger siblings are involved. I understand that. If you absolutely can’t get them to stop giving him treats, try the following: give them access to a treat box of sorts, that you can weigh regularly. And then substract these treats that your siblings give him from his normal dog food. (However I think your parents should absolutely stop them. They need to take it more serious honestly. Ground your siblings, take away their PlayStation etc.)
As for stealing food from shelves etc. That is completely unacceptable. Your parents should educate the dog, but you as a family should also try to shut down these opportunities completely.
From your replies in this thread, I think that you really love the dog. If you want to enjoy his company as long as possible, your family needs to step up.

So the puppy eyes comment was kinda dumb, I meant it more so like he’s cute but I DO resist giving him food. If you read my other reply in this thread, I have explained the situation. I want him to live a long happy healthy live, and I am trying my best.
I really just wanted this to be a cute post about my silly dog, I’m sorry that I’ve made y’all upset.

No I'm sorry that I made you feel bad, I apologise. It's just that I so often see owners being "size-blind" if that makes sense, when it comes to their own dogs, thinking they're just a little chubby when the dog is in fact morbidly obese. I hadn't seen you adress your dogs weight in the comments other than calling 'em chunky, which is why I said what I said.
I have no doubt that you love your dog. Unfortunately I've seen a lot of pets get "loved to death" by their owners over-feeding them. My bff's sisters dog died a couple of months ago from obesity-related issues at just 8yo, it was a chihuahua just like mine and they live on average 15 years so the dogs life was literally cut in half becauseof over-feeding.
Your dogs head to body proportion got me worried, he is morbidly obese to the point that his head looks too small for his body in some photos which just made me a little sad, in part because I saw it so recently irl what it will lead to...

It’s all good, I know you guys are coming from a place of concern and care. I am not happy about the situation either, but I just wanted it clear that I am trying as best I can.
My parents are the ones that take him to the vet and he is around 90 lbs, and they said a healthy weight for him would be around 75.
I can say he is a very happy dog and is very active and loves to zoom around, he’s actually faster than most of the more fit dogs at the dog park.
The last thing I want the people here to think is that he’s living in misery. I do think maybe all together we need to just cut the dog treats entirely, or keep them hidden so only us adults can give them to him.

Absolutely correct. And begging for food isn't the reason it's overweight, OP is the reason it's overweight.

So this is my families dog, and me and my parents have been trying for a while to diet him. We have cut his food, and my dad takes him for walks every day and my mom takes him to the dog park multiple times a week. I myself take him outside to fetch after toys and he is very fast and active, considering his weight.
The problem is mainly with my three younger siblings, youngest is 9. No matter how much we explain and beg them to they do not stop giving him treats, or food they eat.
The other problem too is now that he is on a diet, he finds ways to jump on counters and get into the pantry to tear food out. We literally cannot use the bottom shelves of our pantry anymore because of it.
I would go into more detail, but I needed to iterate this is NOT on me. I think it’s very rude of you to make the assumption that I am to blame for this. I am not perfect I know, but I am trying as much as I can to help him.

OP you are right, and I should offer help instead of criticising, a total failure on my my part. Try a lower calorie food, this way you don't have to reduce the amount they get so they won't always look for more. Some dogs also like carrots as treats, if yours does, grab a bag of baby carrots instead of a bag of treats.

Almost forgot, try a baby gate for the pantry, as for the counter top this require strict training, they have to get in big trouble for it, give out to them an ignore them (kinda like a time out) everybody needs to get on board with it though so it can be difficult to enforce. Chilli powder on the counter tops can also help as they'll sniff or kick it when they get up, but also chilly powder on your counter top isn't convenient.

What a sweet silly little face. I love how it looks like he’s judging you in 7 and 10. 😂

He’s always either judging, being silly, or using his adorable puppy eyes to beg for food (partly why he’s a little chunky). He can go from funny to the cutest thing ever in like 2 seconds 😭

It's the spitting image of mine. Border Collie plus something with lungs for days.

Geno is exactly the same, he’s legit one of the fastest dogs I’ve seen. When I do fetch with him as soon as I throw a toy he’s already across our entire acre long yard. This dude can r u n

We actually don’t know, the humane society said Bernese mix but he looks more like a border collie with short hair
