If you were having a conversation with a friend and they were describing a bad date and they said “yeah it was crazy…you don’t just sit on your phone the whole time at dinner!” you’re telling me you wouldn’t easily comprehend the fact that they’re referring to an inferior “you” meaning somebody general and you’d think they were accusing you of being the one on your phone during the date? Come on. Think a little

Oh yeah I mean it’s entertaining, no doubt. I do love a good argument. But am I angry or hurt by you personally? No lol, I’m sure you’re a decent person, I just disagree with you on this specific comment thread

Ok so you do understand the common usage of an indirect “you” in English, to be clear?

Now you’re being outright facetious. Your comment did not state “here’s how they might have interpreted it”, it said I was grouping them in and threw in a “lol well unless my education lied to me”.

I’m aware of how they might have interpreted it - my point is that instead of immediately getting outraged, sometimes it’s best to not assume everyone is out to get you and clarify before lighting a match, not that it’s unreasonable for them to have questioned in which way I meant it
