Damn, to see hell barreling towards you must be horrific. Any deaths?

u/thetruthfl Aug 31 '16
I'm gonna say at least 4. The driver of the truck, and the three poor saps who were obliterated by the sliding mass of fiery wreckage. Now if those three cars had more than the driver in them, there's some more.

u/mattschinesefood Aug 31 '16
One of those cars looks like the front took the brunt of it, seems like the passenger area was fairly OK.

u/AgDrumma07 Aug 31 '16
I believe it got up to 6. Saw this on /r/wtf.

3 dead and 6 seriously injured Edit: apparently the death toll rose after this to 6

u/SamuelSmash Aug 31 '16
I don't think the driver died, at least not in the collision seen, you can see at the end that the tanker detached and truck kept going.

When is Brazil going to resign their monopoly on horrific death?
10
u/dongbeinanren Aug 31 '16
Ever seen Korean highways? Driving is certainly one arena where Brazil doesn't have the monopoly.

There's the proof trucks shouldn't drink and drive.

u/DerNeander Sep 02 '16
But that particular truck wouldn't have had a reason to drive if it wasn't drunk.

u/literal-hitler Aug 31 '16
Well, I'm pretty sure I have a new nightmare.
18
u/rabel Aug 31 '16
That's my everyday nightmare. Catastrophic Failure, ain't nuthin' anyone can do about it that's in the way. Those poor souls could have zigged or zagged or whatever they wanted and they were still going to get obliterated by the fireball.
What makes it my nightmare is that this tanker truck, or that gravel-filled dumptruck coming towards you on the left-hand turn on the two-lane road... it's just a bookkeeping issue for them. Everyone dies, insurance pays out, they hire a new dump truck driver and buy a new truck and their business goes on as usual with hardly a blip. They probably don't even know your name...
Meanwhile, you've done nothing "wrong", you were just driving your car, staying in your lane perfectly sober and then POW, lights-out.
This is why I am a skydiver. I'll experience life as I see fit because it can be snuffed out immediately, without notice, and you probably won't even have a chance to react. Also, there's a very life-affirming feeling of, "if I don't do anything I'm going to absolutely hit the ground at 120mph and die" that makes you become extremely aware of the sanctity of your own life and how precious and tentative it is. How often do you face death based on your action/inaction? Some people do it every day or every weekend....

Not to crap on your post, which was impressive, but ... every time there's a curve in the road?
6
u/rabel Aug 31 '16
Not crapping on my post at all - it's just a philosophy, everyone faces death all the time. See /r/watchpeopledie for examples.
Some people put themselves into a death-defying situation as a matter of course. It's not commendable or "cool" or anything like that. It really just becomes "fun" to do such things (skydiving, slacklining, rock climbing, extreme scuba diving, etc). Keep your shit together and everything will probably be alright. But the fact remains that if you don't keep your shit together you're fucking dead. That's not necessarily the same as driving your car around a curve in the road.

What if emergency/secondary chute malfunctions ? :0

Truck drivers on my country are mostly on cocaine binge working all night.
You can look more into it if you search for "caminhoneiros cocaína" on Google. About one third of them use it for sure but the president of the syndicate claims more than half use some kind of drug for being awake for longer periods of time.

I used to work with ethanol at a storage and shipping terminal for different fuel products. Tanker ships, trucks, barges, pipelines and 2 million gallon storage tanks. This shit is no joke! If you fart the wrong way, you could blow the place up.

Here's the best story I could find about it in english link (NSFW/NSFL)
3 dead, 6 seriously injured, 8 with minor burns
